This is a work of superb medical scholarship
Now in an updated and expanded second edition, Living With Rheumatoid Arthritis by Tammi L. Shlotzhauer (Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Practicing Rheumatologist at Rheumatology Associates of Rochester) and James L. McGuire (Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, Massachusetts) is a large print compendium of the latest information on Rheumatoid Arthritis concerning the diagnosis, treatment, and daily life (from special diets to possible alternative therapies and more) with this troublesome and painful disease. Living With Rheumatoid Arthritis informatively presents its facts in terms and text ideal for the non-specialist general reader, yet without glossing over specific issues, problems, medicines, or other challenges facing rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. Simply put -- this is a work of superb medical scholarship and Living With Rheumatoid Arthritis should be on the shelves and available to the patrons of every community library system in this country.

Two Thumbs Up!
This book gives a lot of layman explanations to medical technical jargon that the doctors throw at new patients. At times the reading was a bit dry, but this book serves as a daily reference to me with the many challenges I face as a newly diagnosed RA patient.

A Complete guide to Rheumatoid Arthritis
This book covers all aspects of this disease and is written by a practicing Rheumatologist. RA is considered one of the "inflammatory" forms of arthritis and is now generally considered an autoimmune disease. Topics covered in depth include what joints are commonly affected, other organs that may also be involved and some of the other complications that may be experienced. The testing commonly performed by Physicians is discussed at length and explained in lay terms. The general progression of the disease differs in different individuals and this is discussed as well. The treatments such as medications, therapy, surgery are discussed individually and in depth in lay terms. Exercise is also covered. Some other aspects that are discussed are emotional issues and disability. This book actually presents a solid in depth knowledge of the diease and contains a lot of information that many family practioners and generalist may not be aware of as they are not specialists in this disease process. This book should be read and owned by anyone with this disease or a loved one with this disease. All of the information is presented in lay terms that are easy to understand. There are numerous illustrations as well.

This is a great book for learning and enjoying homeopathy.
In Materia Poetica, Sylvia expresses the feeling and the essence of homeopathic remedies in delightful poetry. It is a wonderful learning tool for students, and knowledgable homeoapths will appreciate it too.

A great homeopathic reference and great fun to read!
Not only is Materia Poetica : Homeopathy In Verse by Sylvia Seroussi,MD a wonderful collection of poetry, but it serves as a great reference for choosing that "right" remedy. By portraying the essence of the remedies in verse, Dr. Chatroux has captured the symptoms, quirks, and personality types for which the various remedies are meant to treat. A great addition to ones homeopathic library, as well as great fun to read.

Homeopathy and poetry mix in an original and fun book.
I wish I would have had this book when my children were younger and I was frantically searching for a friendly guide to homeopathy. Most of the books were awfully complicated and required answering so many questions about symptoms that, by the time I'd figured out the right remedy, the fever was gone, the earache finished or the headache had disappeared. This book demystifies homeopathy, and brushes it with beauty, whimsy and deep wisdom at the same time. First, it's a beautiful book, with lovely black and white botanical drawings. And the concept is original; the author simplifies and clarifies homeopathy by describing properties of the 101 remedies in poetry. And she makes it fun, too. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for alternatives to conventional medicine, especially parents of young children. Actually, it's a great book for anyone who loves poetry, plants, beautiful books, the healing arts...the list goes on and on. Part of the uniqueness of the book is because Sylvia Chatroux is a unique doctor, an MD as well as a homeopathic doctor. She's also the kind of doctor everyone wants to have; she believes in the body's ability to heal and she is deeply committed to helping people heal themselves. That spirit comes through in this wonderful book.

An excellent look at the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 and MD-90
The Airlife's Airliner series of books cover individual commercial aircraft types in an interesting, in-depth manner.

Each volume of this British series covers a unique commercial aircraft type from its design, production, entry into service, its usage by airlines, and in some cases eventual demise.

Each volume features plenty of color and black and white photographs of the subject aircraft along with a complete construction list (accurate to date of publication for aircraft types still being built).

This volume of the series covers the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 and MD-90 series of airliners ... including most if not all of the airframe's variants and derivatives and provides an interesting look at the genesis of these short/medium range commercial airliners.

Of interesting note is the section covering the MD-95 (now the 717) as well as the unducted / propfan studies that occurred in the late 1980s / early 1990s.

Awesome reference on an exceptional airplane!
I highly recommend this book to anyone remotely interested in airplanes. Mr. Pearcy delivers the goods on an American built airliner that has become a global workhorse. Lots of outstanding photography and good information, this is a must have for every aviation library.

Great book about the MD-80
This is a must have for anyone who is interested in the MD-80. Its got alot of great pictures. I highly recommend this book.

Vital information every parent should know
Children with Down Syndrome are at increased risk for many medical problems. As a parent, it is important to understand these risks, be able to recognize potential problems, and also become familiar with many of the medical specialists you will encounter even if your child is healthy. This book discusses all of the common medical problems you may be faced with in a way that can be understood by a parent. Armed with the information in this book, a parent will be able to make vital decisions regarding their child's health and cope more comfortably if medical care is required. Topics discussed include: heart disease, endocrine problems, skin conditions, gastrointestinal problems, and many others.

Every medical topic I wanted to know about!
I found this book in the library of my son's early intervention office. Everything I have encountered with him, I was able to find in the book. It even talked about the delay of the emergence of his primary teeth. I wish I had known of its existence sooner. A must have for parents, grandparents, doctors and other caregivers!

A must have for parents of Down Syndrome children
We purchased this book when our 2 day old son was in the hospital for heart problems and diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The book is full of important information for parents and doctors and is written in a language that parents can understand. In the past three years, we have used this book many times to answer questions, learn what to look for, and to train ourselves in how to handle certain medical conditions. Knowledge is power.

Madeleine
Dr. Modi provides multiple transcripts of clients describing their memories of creation that enable the reader to see for herself or himself the similarities between all the accounts. She writes clearly without endorsing one religion or belief above another. I could not put the book down. I found myself feeling spiritually uplifted.

Memories of God and Creation
Psychiatrist Shakuntala Modi has been in private practice for more than twenty-five years. During her training and in her practice, she realized that "no single treatment worked for every patient." Despite learning various therapies, she was unable to help certain patients.
She used hypnotherapy when it seemed appropriate, and one day, a patient responded in an unexpected way and regressed into a past life. While under hypnosis, the patient resolved some issues from an earlier life that had created difficulties in her present life. Dr. Modi discovered that other patients had this same ability, and she published her findings in her first book, in 1997.
She has continued to work with patients, and Memories of God and Creation: Remembering from the Subconscious Mind, her third book, presents the startling results of her research.
Dr. Modi and her patients learned that they can not only regress to past lives, they can regress all the way back to when the universe was first formed and they were one with God. Under hypnosis, people have described how souls were created, how angels and masters were formed, and how evil and dark entities developed.
They also describe how souls, while still in Heaven, plan for their earthly lives with the help of teachers and masters. Souls reincarnate on Earth time and time again, always with the purpose of furthering their spiritual growth.
Dr. Modi doesn't just tell us about all this--she includes dozens of transcripts of what people have said while under hypnosis. Although details may occasionally differ, the accounts are remarkably similar when taken as a whole. Within our subconscious is the memory all everything that has happened in the Universe from the instant it began until the present time.
Memories of God and Creation "answers almost everything we always wanted to know about God and creation, that is, how it happened and why, and everything since then. It is the history of our soul." It's a history that will fascinate and enlighten readers.

Possibly the most interesting book I have ever read
How many of us actually get a chance to know how God was created? This book not only reveals that, but also how Lucifer came to be, how he works, and what we can do about it. If you have never understood the "big picture" you will now, and your part in it. There is so much work for us to do, it is imperative for us to be about our Father's business. The day I finished the book, I ordered 4 copies for my sisters, brother, and a friend. I hope you will do the same. Ignorance is not bliss, we can heal ourselves, our friends and family and eventually the planet. I thought I understood the New Testament. Now I know exactly what Jesus meant when he said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature, heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out demons." Dr. Modi is obedient to Christ's demand. After you read both of her books, this one and Remarkable Healings, you too, will understand how to do just that.

Living The Good Life - Solid Read!
This is a good nightstand book that you can pick up for a few minutes every evening and still find something warm and interesting to absorb. Each chapter is different and covers another aspect of life. It kept my attention and I can't wait for Dr. Wood to have a sequel. Not only have I learned a great deal; I have also passed my copy among my family members -- this is a very good book. I highly reccommend it. It's funny, touching, and down to earth.

Living The Good Life-Spiritual Survival Guide
Dr. Wood places his own spin on everyday living through stories that everyone can relate to. Some of these stories will make you laugh and some will make you cry but they will all touch you on some emotional and spiritual level. Dr Wood's gift for subtle illustration through storytelling will cause you to look at everyday situations from a different angle. Living the Good Life is a 21st century guidebook for christian living based on very old original values and morals. Whether you read this book in one sitting or chapter by chapter, read this book. You won't be disappointed.

Living The Good Life, Surviving The 21st Century
I was pleasantly surprised at the content of this book. Each chapter is a stand-alone; and it seems like Dr. Wood has a unique perspective on life and way of expressing his thoughts, and teaching valuable life lessons, that remind me of the writings of great authors such as Max Lucado or Dr. James Dobson. Maybe he's a healthy mixture of both. I found the book to be intelligent, without being preachy or legalistic. It also includes sound psychological foundations in which to rely on, in a variety of real-life issues. It has helped me tremendously on day-to-day living. Bravo, Dr. Wood. Your book is a winner!

good for patients too!
This book is intended for physicians but I recommend it forPill-using women.(If you're the type who likes perusing PHYSICIANSDESK REFERENCE, you'll LOVE this. It's much more user-friendly.) The past nine editions(first published in 1977) have been popular with clinicians and the book is a kind of "secret weapon" in the drawer of many a student health service or family planning center. You come in with a certain health history or certain side effects from your current Pill, and the doctor peeks in here to see what brand of Pill to start you on or switch you to. For example, according to Dr. Dickey, if your breast size increases that might mean you have estrogen excess whereas continuous bleeding and spotting suggests an estrogen deficiency. On the other hand, progestin excess might be signaled by appetite increase, depression, fatique. So in theory your doctor relies on this publication for guidance on dosages and brands. It includes various kinds of useful information that you are unlikely to find elsewhere; for example, what kind of interactions occur with other drugs you might take, what symptoms of deficiencies of which vitamins and minerals to watch out for on the Pill, the relation of side effects to hormone content and how to distinguish symptoms of a potentially serious nature.Problem is the oral contraceptive manufacturers are so aggressive about promoting their brands, the doctors are so busy and distracted etc, that, for her own protection, its really a good idea for the OC user to familiarize HERSELF with Dr. Dickey's continuously updated material. Let's be realistic-- this drug is unlike others in that healthy women take it for the longterm,( not being pregnant is not a disease,) and while some may benefit from the Pill, others may be harmed. Some vigilance is called for. If a woman feels comfortable letting her doctor "do the worrying for her' - well, that's fine. But if she's not so sure about that, if she wants to learn this stuff for herself, here's a fine way to begin. I don't expect that the author will appreciate this review. He doesn't aim his manual at patients, but since he started writing and publishing it, the health care delivery system has been falling apart, fewer people can rely on trusted long-term doctors who know them well, and - like it or not- patients are often required to take healthcare decisions into our own hands. If every student health service has this publication, I say so should every women's dormitory at every college. Power to the people!

Managing Contraceptive Pill Patients - 11th ed. (2002)
An excellent reference guide and teaching text for every clinician who has a personal relationship with patients of reproductive age. The book fits in a lab coat pocket and has a unique design, which enables the user to find critical information quickly and easily. It is strongly recommended to physicians, residents, nurse practitioners and all other medical professionals in an OB/GYN clinic or teaching hospital. The 11th edition includes the new patch, ring and all new pills available 9/02.

For patients, not just doctors
As a pill user, I have found this book to be extremely valuable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who like to be informed about her own medical care. This offers enough information to allow you to be involved in decision making.

I didn't exactly find out about this book in a normal way.
I'm a fan of musician Adam Green, who is the son of the book's authors. I was on his website where it said "Adam's parents wrote a book together" with a link. So I click on it, and it turns out to be for headaches. I've gotten migranes ever since I as little (and I guess all of my loud music doesn't help). I ended up checking it out from the library and learned a lot about "managing my headaches."

Patient of Dr. Green's
Dr. Mark Green treated me for migraines for about five years until I moved out of the area which made it very difficult to keep him as my neurologist (how sad for me!!). This book is written in the same style as how he manages his patients - nothing is set is stone, he is very aware of the many nuances of migraine as well as nuances of each patient's physiology, and he is always at the cutting edge of technology. I recommend this book, and Dr. Mark Green, highly. (Since I never was treated by his wife, Dr. Leah Green, I cannot offer the same comments, but would presume that her level of excellence matches her husband's)

Interesting and Informative
"Managing Your Headaches" is so readable, it's hard to believe the authors have explained more about headaches than a medical text.

Better than others
Unfortunately, there is a dearth of "cardiology-review books", especially when it comes to ABIM Cardiology Boards preparation. There is NOT a single review book written keeping in mind that it has be used ONLY for ABIM cardiology boards. This book at least tries to achieve this goal, but does a mediocre job. It has many expert academicians as its authors; agreed; but it did not achieve its primary goal. Do you any better choices, unfortunately NOT.

The primary goal of a review book is to remain focused, cut the extra fat and present to it readers "only the needed facts". In medical academia, there are three levels of books, in my humble opinion. FIRST, the standard texts, which are written primarily for the thorough discussion of the disease and serve as reference books, in cardiology its example will be Hurst's textbook. SECOND, the review books, which are primarily written to pass the exams and it assumes that the reader has the basic understanding of the subject. THIRD, the in-between books which claim to be review books but goes beyond the "call of duty" and starts explaining pathophysiology and unrelated material which is extremely redundant approach for a review book.

Mayo Clinic Cardiology Review 2nd Ed belongs to third category. But then why it is popular and why I am reading it, moreover why I am writing such an extensive review? Because, we don't have any decent book for second category, so this is the logical choice till someone writes a better review-book (a real review book, not 1381 paged book). I hope that while writing the third edition Joseph G. Murphy MD keeps in mind that this is a "REVIEW BOOK" not a "TEXTBOOK"!
