A MUST READ!!
Witty & insightful. A must have for anyone who's interested in learning about Asian culture and ways of thinking. Don't be fooled by the title, though. Much of the "wisdom" still applies to the modern western society!

Classical Arabic Poetry: 162 Poems from Imrulkais to Ma'Arri

Masterful translations!
Charles Grenville Tuetey's translations, first published in 1985, place him in the advanced guard of all who have translated Arabic poetry into English. The imagery, music, phrase and diction are a careful adaptation of the resonant cadences of classical Arabic poetry (a style of versification with no equivalent in the world) into the poetical structures of the English language. Previous translations have produced either flatly literal renderings or attempted to make facile compromises between the two languages, producing translations that "read well" but fail to capture the unique potency of the original Arabic. This Tuetey accomplishes with grace, skill and linguistic mastery, transferring the classics of the Arab world into an English idiom that is admirable for its aptness of diction, rhetorical explorativeness and concision. A heroic effort of a man who shall undoubtedly remain the undisputed master of Arabic verse translation.

A Colour Atlas of Dermatology: Arabic/English Edition

The Clinical Accuracy of the Color Atlas of Dermatolagy
The Color Atlas of Dermatology by G.M. Levene and C. D. Calnan is by far the most accurate represenation of typical dermatological cases seen in clinics today. Many other atlas's tend to display the most profound and severe cases of skin pathologies. Unfortunalty, these cases are not typically seen in most clinical settings. This then makes learning how to diagnose these problems more difficult. Thus, having the most commonly seen stages of the pathology, is this book's greatest atribute. Many people would argue that this book lacks written explainations of the pathologies as well as treatment and prevention. This is true, however, this is not a textbook, it is an atlas. Although this book is out of print and was last published in the late seventies, the photographs are very clear and graphic. The only negative draw back of this book is the use of some old termanologies. However, the realistic represenation of the photographs outweigh this insignificant factor. Over all, the Color Atlas of Dermatology gets five stars. It is definatly worth using Amazon.com's out-of-print service to obtain this book. Once you see it for yourself, you'll be sure to agree.

Why and how I wrote this book
Hi, Readers, I am the author of this book, Confucius Said.
When I first came to the United States in early 1960s as a foreign student, I sometimes heard quotations which were said to be the words of Confucius. Being a graduate of National Taiwan University majoring in the ancient Chinese literature in Taipei, Taiwan, I told my American friends that, as far as I knew, Confucius had never said those words. I was then asked what Confucius had said. That was indeed a big question!
I am glad to answer this question four decades later today with the publication of the book, Confucius said.
Confucius (551-479 B.C.)is the greatest of all Chinese sages. After his death, his disciples and disciples' disciples collected all of his sayings and some of his outstanding disciples' sayings as well as the conversations between them and compiled them into a book called ANALECTS OF CONFUCIUS. Years later, the book became a required textbook in all of China. For more than two thousand years, all the Chinese students were required to read the book and memorize the sayings of Confucius and his outstanding disciples. And a Chinese man who wished to become a senior government official had to pass the official examination of the book in order to qualify for appointment to the office. This situation was finally changed when the Chinese republic was established in 1911.
Today, Analects of Confucius is studied in many academic institutions all over the world as a main resource for Chinese cultural research. This book, Confucius Said, is my English translation selected from the original Chinese language version of Analects of Confucius to make the non-Chinese reading English-speaking people easily get a better understanding of what Confucius actually said.
Although Confucius died some two thousand five hundred years ago, his philosophy regarding how to deal with people and how to build a better relationship between families and friends is still regarded as one of the best teachings even today. Many scholars think if Confucius' philosophy could prevail again, the increasing rate of crime in the world would sharply decrease.

Fascinating Mysteries
Dashiell Hammett's novels have fascinating mystery plots and the essential elements of film noir: dangerous dames, wise-cracking "ops" (= operative = P.I.), cagey crime orgasnisers, and trigger-happy "muggs".

Hammett's novels include The Maltese Falcon (#3) and The Thin Man(#5), which are great films but they are missing some of the intrigue of the real stories. For instance, there's another angle of Sam Spade involving Iva Archer that doesn't quite make it to the film version . . . .

The Red Harvest (#1) reveals shocking corruption in city politics as the Continental Op (literally) wades through bootleg liquor and tries to keep track of the soaring body count.

The Dain Curse (#2) is a confusing compound of drug use, a religious cult, and a family's vicious criminal record. It isn't a neat, fictionalised detective story, but rather the slough of deceit Hammett must have seen while working for Pinkerton.

The Glass Key (#4) also deals with city-level political corruption, but there's another message: think of trying to use a glass key . . . .

When fortifying myself for a six hour layover and a trans-Atlantic flight, I stumbled upon this book quite by accident, but I couldn't have made a better choice. Hammett's novels make excellent reading: interesting plots, clever wording and some of those "lines" film noir can't do without. I can't resist giving an example "line" (from The Glass Key):

"'A copper found you crawling on all fours up the middle of Colman Street at three in the morning leaving a trail of blood behind you.'

'I think of funny things to do,' Ned Beaumont said."

Delightful!
The flavor this book brings is so much fun! If you love good ole slapstick humor, this is the book for you. The stories are original and keep you guessing with each turn. The best thing about this book is knowing Cajuns and being familiar with their dialect- it is a very difficult task to try to mimick a Cajun. This book is written EXACTLY how a Cajun would say the words. This is wonderful for all of those people who try so hard to talk Cajun but don't know how! It grabs you and pulls you into Boudreaux and Thibodeaux's worlds until you can't stand it!

Mr. Boudreaux has written a sequel and the second book has just come out. It has the same amount of stories with just as much flavor if not more than the first! The ONLY thing I can see uplifting this book is having graphics inside the book to create some kind of visual for the reader. Great job, Boudreaux!
