A wonderful story of youth
The War of the Buttons is generally considered a book for children but the truth is that it is also a book for adults. Anyone who likes to remember what it was like to be young, free and get excited over the samllest thing should read this. The story is an allegory of war and makes very obvious how ridiculous human beings can be and how unnecessary wars are.

Beautifully written with incredible expressive slang worthy of every teenager.

THe War of the buttons
Two Irish groups of young boys are going to war, not for gold, or land, for pride. No booty is taken in this war just buttons.Who wins? How? It is a wonderful well written book.

WOW! What a story!
True crime lovers will love this story about a diabolical woman who murders her daughter-in-law to keep her son. The detail is excellent, the book is easy to read, and very well written. The author captures Ma Duncan and really makes you see what an evil, crazy women she is. A must read for all!

Our judicial system has hopefully changed!
A facinating true story of a mother totally obsessed with jealousy over her own son. The last woman to be executed in California and feel the sensation as you are right there with Ma and her hired killers in the gas chamber, their last expressions. Great physcholical profiles of the hired killers and the woman who hired them. I often wondered what makes someone so cold about killing another and this book gives you some insight into that issue. The law in the 50's was certainly not what it is today, hopefully! Unbelievable how she masterminded this brutal crime, just a little old lady she was. If you like true crime stories, this is it! Could not put the book down to the very last page. Where is that meek son of hers today, I wondered. I don't like him very much!

Lurid Tale about a Heinous True Crime
Wow. Great book! I was spellbound and could hardly stop reading until I finished the book. What a horrible, evil woman Ma Duncan was to have had her daughter-in-law and own grandchild murdered out of insane jealously! True crime at its most despicable.

Definitely the "Swan Lake" of medical textbooks
I was recommended this book by a former student of Dr. Neal's and after one perusal, I was hooked. It has since become my favorite medical textbook. It is so elegant and enjoyable to read that it is hardly like studying at all. The diagrams are particularly impressive, with each consolidating the equivalent of many wordy pages in the average pharmacology textbook. It is perfect when taking a medical pharmacology course, to be read "first and last" for each topic. If you're a visual learner, this one's for you.

Excellent text.
This is the best medical science text ever written. It is short, concise and diagrams allow a visual synthesis that facilitates learning. The only drawback is occasional British terminology (e.g. Adrenalin is called Epinephrine). It is best while taking pharmacology so that side-effects can be updated for boards.

Mummies & Pyramids (Magic Tree House Research Guide, paper)

If the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions a mummy is a ghastly, bandaged creature staggering forth from a tomb, it's time to take a look at Mummies and Pyramids. This entertaining and enlightening research companion to Mary Pope Osborne's Mummies in the Morning is perfect for readers who developed an insatiable taste for the mysteries and science of ancient Egypt while reading about Jack and Annie's time- and space-traveling adventures at the pyramid of Queen Hutepi. Guided by siblings Jack and Annie, stars of the Magic Tree House series, the easy-to-read text offers up the secrets of pharaohs, hieroglyphic writing, the building of pyramids, how and why mummies were made, the Book of the Dead, Egyptian gods and goddesses, tomb treasures--and tomb robbers--and more. Divided into chapters covering everyday life in ancient Egypt, religion, funerals, and the most famous mummy of all, King Tutankhamen, the book also offers suggestions on how children can do their own research. Plentiful black and white illustrations and reproductions of Egyptian art make learning extra fun, as do regular appearances by Jack and Annie as they explain details of the text or offer commentary ("Not fair!" Annie says, "Only boys could go to school and become scribes!"). Stimulating and lively, this research guide is a stellar introduction to a subject guaranteed to intrigue young readers. "natural"
This was a great man. Unfortunately for us, he died recently, but thanks to the efforts of Lama Surya Das, et al, we can catch more than just a glimpse of this man's wisdom and power. Written from the perspective of teacher-teaching-student, it does have an amount of "dzogchen lingo," but any serious seeker would do well to learn some of these terms and fathom the realities they reference. It is said his teaching style was always one of very direct and personal exchange regarding matters of actual practice, and I think it is this more than anything else which comes through in this book. Very inspiring to the student of dzogchen, "the great perfection."

Deep, thought provoking, refreshing, heart felt
If you can get past some of the Tibetan words, which aren't excessive, you will find yourself refering back again and again to the messages, warmth, and clarity of the words. He touches your soul, opens your heart, and speaks a peace and hopefulness to your mind. Its like breathing fresh mountain air again. The title is says it all.

loveable book from childhood
i never owned this book, but every week as a child i would go to the public library and my mother would allow me to check out about 3 or 4 books. Each time i went, i begged and pleaded to check out "Pop Corn and Ma Goodness" because despite the silly rhyming scheme, it was my favorite book. Even to this day when I go to the library, i walk upstairs to the kids section to make sure it's still there.

Silly rhymes that teach about life
This is a wonderful children's book that teaches about life and its chances with wonderful rhymes, clever images, and fresh ideas.

A Combination of Natural Beauty and the Unique
If imitation is the greatest form of flattery, many photographers both amateur (me) and professional, will be in awe of this book. It will also be loved and appreciated by tourists who visit the area. I first came across this book last year when I did a slide show on Cape Cod and needed a few shots of this portion of the Cape. I did not copy Mr. Fields' work (largely because I am not as gifted a photographer), but the book inspired me. This is due to his interesting perspective of the area. His best photographs are those of the dunes and the areas along the national seashore, but he also includes typical Cape Cod shots such as vacationers, fishing boats, and historical landmarks. He also includes photographs of a few of the more outlandish sides of Provincetown, which makes Provincetown fun for many people and shows that Fields is adept at using his camera to tell a story.

Brings the Outer Cape to light
I was blown away with the quality and breadth of the images in this unusual photo essay book. I love both Provincetown and photography, so you can imagine my excitement in discovering the book on Amazon.

Fields seems to have a knack for capturing the subtle and beautiful Cape light many artists and tourists flock to see. Surprisingly, he also has a fair number of fun and stunning portraits in the collection.

I would recommend thia book for anyone who loves photography or the Cape. It's also an easy and obvious gift selection for my friends.

Great history of one of Boston's best neighborhoods!
Roslindale is Boston's best kept secret and for those "in the know", this is an indespensible book. Great pbotos, and an interesting history to go with it. Someday the rest of Boston will realize the 'jewel' it has in Roslindale - this may do the trick!

Comprehensively researched and entertainingly presented
Well researched and documented with incredible photographs going back to the turn of the century. I saw the town where I grew up "way back when".

I've always been fascinated by history and wished I could travel back in time and see familiar places as they once looked - this book provided the "magic carpet" to do just that.

I received this book as a Christmas gift and spent hours poring over it. It has become a treasured possession and will be passed down to my children.

THE CHOICE OF MANY DISCERNING LEARNERS
The inclusion of all the latest abstruse developments in the field of immunology was part of a concerted effort to make this latest edition of "Roitt's Essential Immunology" standout in the crowd. It is an elaborate text whose popularity attests to its high quality.
Good enough, the traditional use of simple descriptions were retained in this new edition, while additional efforts were made in order to simplify most of the complex issues associated with immunochemistry and immunopathology. This textbook is a one-volume knowledge base whose accurate differentials are largely due to extensive facts validations.

Roitts is the definitive Immunology text for Medical Student
As a pre-clinical medical student, I was initially apprehensive when I came into contact with this book. Immunology is a subject I know little about, and the topic can seem more than a little daunting at times. Ivan Roitt's superb text soon revealed to me that my worries were unfounded. His guide through immunology is comprehensive and a pleasure to read. The content is both factual and humourous, written in the style of a caring lecturer rather than a boring expert (as with most medical texts). I cannot thank him enough for his fantastic book and hope he soon writes other texts on medical subjects (biochemistry needs a facelift, I think!!) for students to understand and enjoy.
