more pictures,less text
This is a great book indeed, but the fact that it balances between atlas and text renders it somewhat inconvenient for those of us solely interested in a picture atlas.I strongly urge the editors to consider a future edition of an atlas only book.Nevertheless i must admit that this book has been extemely helpful so far in understanding the various clinical entities.

A very good book!
This color atlas and text are really very good. The text is a quick read but is thorough, covering diagnosis, prognosis, physical exam findings and treatment of choice in many cases. It has classic pictures and examples of a very wide variety of conditions. This is simply an excellent review for the USMLE (mainly parts 2 and 3). It's excellent for review during clinical medicine rotations and the Internal Medicine boards. Overall, very well done!

One of the best book of internal medicine!
This book is very well written, the explanations are very clear and accompanied by high-quality illustrations. I recommend using it together with "Self Assessment Picture Tests in Medicine: Clinical Medicine", the companion book with question covering the content of "Color Atlas and Text of Clinical Medicine" for a better preparation for USMLE Step 2.

The Monkey Shines
Grief . . . comforting friends . . . food . . . threatening enemy . . . victory . . . happiness. What more could you want in a book? Well actually, there is more. You can read it, look at Alex de Wolf's clever pictures, listen to it on tape, and learn French -- all at the same time. Mary Risk, as usual, has not been satisfied just to "feed" the reader French - she has created an engaging story that my 4-year-old listens to and "reads" over and over.

Fun, colorful, great for new vocabulary.
I teach French to elementary school children and they loved this book. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful. And the story is entertaining enough for them to catch up on new vocabulary. The book itself is excellent quality as well.

A wonderful book
What a great way to learn another language! My son loves the pictures, and we tirelessly read it over and over again in both French and English. The pronunciation guide is very helpful. I wish they offered this book in several more languages.

La Chateau De Ma Mere (French Literary Texts)

Very descriptive
I read this book as part of my 'A' level french course, I found it to be difficult in parts but humourous and had very vivid images of Provence. It gave me great view of Provence and when writing my final piece of coursework I had many ideas to base it on. It may take you time at first to get used to the descriptive language but it is well worth reading.

Great Book
Awesome book! If you speak french or in the process of learning french its a great book to read. He paints a very good picture of the country side back in the late 19th century. Also if u liked this on don't forget to get La Gloire de mon Pere which is just as good as this one. Enjoy!

La Gloire de Pagnol
Out of all of Marcel Pagnol's works, Le Chateau de ma Mere is my favorite. Pagnol's love for Provence is captivating. The novel is beautifully descriptive and takes you right into the heart of Provence; you can hear the cicadas singing in the background. Le Chateau is a touching portrayal of childhood, capturing both joy and sorrow.

Ma'am Jones and Heiskel Jones History
The book is very well done and Eve Ball interviewed family members for her information. My husband Frank H. Jones Jr is a grandson of Barbara Culp Jones and William Heiskel Jones. I would like to hear from any other descendents or allied families. I have info and pictures to share. Mildred A Jones Farmington,N.M. email majones@hubwest.com

New Mexico Connection-Through Eve Ball
Over ten years ago I became interested in the American Southwest, Arizona and New Mexico in particular. I've read, studied and traveled the area numerous times and am always struck by the history and lore as well as the sometimes harsh natural beauty. This book was brought to my attention by a second cousin, who pointed out that that Barbara (Culp) Jones was my great, great grandfather's sister. What a wonderful surprise to have a limb of the family tree revealed to me in the form a delightful historically based western novel. These were tough, determined, resourceful people that settled the West, not always admirable in things they did by today's standards; but in that place at that time, necessary to survive. It makes be proud, even from a distant generation, to be a native Westerner; blessed by the trials suffered by those who came before. My favorite recreational reading form is fiction laced with factual, real or historical references(Hillerman); historical novels or as in this case a biographical sketch woven into novel form. In this Eve Ball has done a great job. I'm keen for other Eve Ball works!

Great family history
I have recently ordered copies for my children and my niece and nephews. My great-grandfather was Tom Jones. I have had my copy of the book since the initial publication - it was given to me by my grandmother, Lennie Jones Stunz, Tom's daughter, who knew Ma'am very well. I have read it many times and always enjoy it. It's very special to have such a great resource of family history available.

Excellent Choice for Begginers
As an avid Tantra reader and follower of Eastern philosophies I was delightfully surprised by the quality of the illustrations, pictures and approach to Tantra in this book. It is a must have for anyone remotely interested in this fantastic Art.

Tantra for everybody!
Excellent book, it's very clear and helpful. It's not only a book about sex, it's about life and its connection with the universe. If you like Tantra you should buy this book, you'll like it.

Reader from Whistler Canada
This book has much hidden depth and we found profound meditations.

We are a couple who married for the "wrong" reasons after knowing each other 3 weeks and now 4 years later have a son and a respectful and loving relationship. Tantra and recently this book have allowed love and a deep connection between us to flourish.

We are proof that soul mates can come about by concious exercises such as the ones in this wonderful book and not through the flimsy and romantic belief that there is "one" special person out there...

Sorry but I cannot tell a lie...
This is a bad book! As much as I am a fan of Yo-Yo's music, and with the wish to learn more about this great person, I really felt disappointed after reading this book. The writer, John Rallo, don't seem to know enough about Yo Yo Ma; his writing style was very deattached, it was written like from the 'fourth-person' or maybe the 'nth-person' perspective. Marina Ma, Yo Yo's mother, had her name as the co-author of this book; but she didn't done any of the actual penning. And whatever little information she had related to Mr. Rallo, was common facts that could be found from old newspaper and magazine articles.

this was great!
this was a great biography! it was written so that it flows; it's packed with information, but really interesting and intriguing to read. i recommend it for anyone, especially music lovers :) it's an influentially beautiful piece.

It's just wonderful.
It is an absolutely fantastic book. The 'making' of Yo-Yo Ma a great cellist is unveiledto the audience. Mr Ma's unrivalled achievements since his youth are beyond doubt. I find it most touching and enjoyable in the mother's memories of events surrounding the parental families in difficult times; and the conversations amongst the Mas, old and young throughout the period. It is a book of love, care and understanding that has been manifested and shared by these fine people in a tri-cultural background.

Truth?
This book only shows one side of the coin. It makes "saint" Josemaria de Escriva look like an Idol. They idolatrize him. It never says the bad things this dirty man did. Its a shame how blind people are. There are some other good books about Opus Dei that show the good side and the bad sides of it.

The truth will set you free.

I lost a friend because of religious differences, he became a fanatic of Opus Dei, he was brainwashed. I keep praying for him.

Inspirational
Reading about the life of Bl. Escriva is definitely inspirational. A must read for those who seek to practice their faith in their ordinary lives.

Opus Dei
Excellent Book, Very interesting and lost of historical facts. It is worth a look.

Pure bliss in written form!
I was lucky enough to have received oral commentary on this text from H.E. Khamtrul Rinpoche a few years ago. Ever since then, I knew that this text was a jewel just needing to be read!
Patrul Rinpoche's personality and heart instructions really come through in this text. It is both poetic yet earthly and never gets preachy at all. The stories, poems, and teachings listed throughout are simply perfect and fit each topic he is discussing. He writes this in regards to listening to your teacher giving instructions:

"Put your hands together palm to palm and listen,

every pore on your body tingling and your eyes wet with tears,

never letting any other thought get in the way." (Pg.11)

Simple, but direct, The Words of My Perfect teacher is a text to study for life.

Excellent Translation
I wanted to write quick rebuttal to the reviewer who questions the quality of this translation. I've read both the original Tibetan text (kun bzang bla ma'i zhal lung) and the translation, and I'm very impressed with the work the translators have done. The Tibetan text has been rendered into excellent, clear and grammatical English prose without sacrificing the literal meaning of the original. In addition, the book is clearly footnoted with commentary from high lamas, alternate translations and references.

Patrul Rinpoche wakes us up
Wonderful Patrul Rinpoche has written a good book which no doubt has stood the test of time.

The book covers the general and specific premliminaries of Vajrayana, spiced up with lovely stories and anecdotes. Patrul Rinpoches straightfoward and sometimes blunt way of expressing things is very releiving and inspiring. Some of what he writes may be provoking to modern (western) readers. He is striking towards hipocracy in all directions.

There are detailed explanations on the Four Mind Changings, Refuge and Bodhicitta, Vajrasattva practice, Mandala offering, Guru Yoga and many other thigs.

The book is a great read from cover to cover as well as a good reference book with its good index.

Reading this book will certainly dispel lots of ignorance and doubt regarding the buddhist path. So read it, again and again!

useful resource
This is definitely a great resource for the aspiring mystery novelist since the book helps authors construct realistic plots for police procedurals. This is because it contains crucial information about how investigators conduct investigations. However, some of the material covered is obvious but, nonetheless, there are many interesting facts.

The non-professional's roadmap
This book is an excellent resource for writers who want to imbue their stories with the authentic details of unnatural death but don't really have all the tools and training of a full-time medical examiner or police investigator. Maybe the life of a real cop isn't as exciting as portrayed on TV, but neither is it as shallow. In my case, as a crime author, the text was an invaluable reference, putting some highly technical material into easily digested context. Recommended for writers of all kinds who need a good reference work on the myriad ways to die.

Very Good
This is a very good book. Not only does it contain a great deal of information about investigation techniques but the author also manages to convey, in great depth, the emotional aspects of the business. I definitely recommend this book.

technical
i recently ordered this book based upon reviews and was disappointed. i wasn't able to wade through the technical language and writing style of this book. i don't doubt the amount of information that is here, but if i can't access it, it is of little use to me. perhaps i'll find something else more useful to me.

An eye-opening anthology of the writings
The Practice Of Dzogchen is an eye-opening anthology of the writings on Dzogpa Chenpo, or Dzogchen, by Longchen Rabjam (1308-1363), a widely renowned adept of the Nyingmapa School of Tibetan Buddhism. Meticulously translated into English by Tulku Thondup, this classic 466-page text cogently explains the nature of the three outer and three inner tantras, presents excerpts from the lives of Dzogpa Chenpo masters, offers paths to meditation, and a great deal more. Simply put, The Practice Of Dzogchen is a "must-have" addition for Tibetan Buddhist reference shelves and a strongly recommended entry for the supplemental reading lists of dedicated students of Tibetan Studies.

Don't give up
10-Point Rating: (10.0)
I came to this book with a heavy background in western philosophy, specifically the analytic tradition. Never having studied eastern traditions directly, I had always bought into the marginalizations of eastern thought prevalent in our culture. This book literally slapped me awake. There is not a thinker in the entire history of western philosophy (and that includes all the greats) that can hold a candle to Longchen Rabjam and the tradition he represents. I am not going to lie to you, this book is not easy reading - the system/viewpoint expressed is completely alien to our western outlook. It thus carries with it a set of technical terms (just as our philosophers do - e.g. substance, person, free will) which must be understood prior to a serious reading. For this reason it is best not to breeze through the introductory material which, as in most books on dzogchen, makes up at least half the volume. Another difficulty is that the author (Longchenpa) is assuming familiarity with certain ideas (such as the twelvefold chain of interdependent causation) and so he only treats them in a cursory fashion - bear with it, re-read it, study it, it will eventually come to you.
