A lamp in the dark
The essence of the Dzogchen teaching is found in Garab Dorje's "The Three Statements That Strike the Essential Point" (Garab Dorje was the first Dzogchen master). These "Three Statements" appeared in a text known as "The Last Testament of Garab Dorje" which was part of a larger work known as the "Golden Letters".

The nineteenth century Dzogchen master Patrul Rinpoche wrote an important commentary of "The Three Statements" entitled "The Special Teaching of the Wise and Glorious King", this is the main subject matter of the present book.

Patrul Rinpoche's commentary is a joy to read, it is to the point and written in simple clear language with a minimum of technical phrases. If this wasn't enough we are then treated to further clarification with John Myrdhin Reynolds generous commentary of "The Special Teaching".

Later in the book there are more treasures in the form of a translation of the actual "Last Testament" together with Reynold's superb interlinear commentary. By the end of the book the reader is left in little doubt (as far as words can take us) as to the meaning of "The Three Statements".

It is written "to look for gold in the dark we need a lamp". "The Golden Letters" is such a lamp.

Golden Letters
This book is of great benefit because it points us directly to our true nature and it gives a very wide range of explanations for those that may need a bit more.It is a great invitation to explore within oneself. This book also helps us understand in more depth what Padmasambhava left us as great gift: Self Liberation through Seing with Nacked Awareness.

Just THIS.
If you're one of the few with the estimable karma to have truly seen through the futility of seeking as the means to 'finding,' you will only need a few lines or pages of this miraculous 'Vajra' (diamond/indestructible) teaching to 'arrive home.' If you're not, your ego's misappropriation of the stuff will probably send you on another ego trip of a few million reincarnations.

So... on one hand, this book is worth its weight in diamonds many times over; on the other, it's extremely dangerous, and useless -- it doesn't tell you anything your True Nature does not already know.

biblical text on heart
it is amazing that such an authoritative text can actually be written. but there it is!. a masterpiece, which is so encompasing that words fail. braunwald has a tradition and every new edition is a towering giant over the previous.seeing is beleiving, thus i strongly recommend this text to any one wishing to perfect himself in any aspect of cardiology.

A HARD-TO-FLAW MASTERPIECE
Anyone familiar with Dr. Braunwald's superb cardiovascular exploits in the "Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine" would not be surprised by the richness of this book.
The diligently crafted chapters are comprehensive, authoritative, well-illustrated, and include all the 'ins' and 'outs' of contemporary cardiology. It is one of the most consistent and coherent multi-authored texts in the field.
This single-volume CD-ROM package is a rich blend of evidence based medicine, best practice, and all the user-flexibility an e-book enthusiast would expect.

the Bible of Cardiology
There are many authors that have mastered their subjects. Once in a while however, you come across some authors that have, in addition, mastered the art of imparting that knowledge to others. That is what you have in this volume that has become the indispensable resource for Cardiologists and cardiology fellows. What Harrison's is to Internal Medicine, and Gray's is to Gross Anatomy, Braunwald's is to Cardiology. It is probably easier to talk of the beach without mentioning water than to talk of cardiology without Braunwald's Heart Disease.
This is a very worthy reference resource.

Switzerland Forever
Every Swiss should read this novel. It takes you back to a time when Switzerland, Geneva, was a much quieter place. When the police would tell noisemakers to shush. When the tourists only came in the summer. And there's plenty of action that moves the plot along. A must read.

Dear Mom, you witch.
I really enjoyed reading the love story of those two kids. They loved each other so much and put so much faith into Dosie's mother. Boy, did she throw them a curve. What a letdown.

Motorcycle aficionada
I am nuts about old bikes and this guy rides a Puch 125, made in Austria, for 6000 miles. This bike was more of a scooter than a motorycle and how he pushed that bike that far is hilarious. And the rest of the book is too.

great book
this is a great book, the author truly knows the subject matter well. I recommend this to anyone interested in getting the most out of walking for fitness.

An Inspirtational & Practical Guide to Fitness & Longevity
The Way of Walking is both an inspiratual and a practical guide to physical fitness and longevity. The book articulates the mind/body connection to health and well-being in a way that really motivates me to be serious about this walking program. The information is easy to relate to and absorb. In fact, reading this book is almost like having Dr. Moramarco there with you, helping you to get it right. The demonstration photos are also quite helpful. The Way of Walking describes a system that can work for the novice to the most fit and everyone in between (like me!). You don't need special clothes or equipment. You are not limited by age or physical condition. Having followed this program for just a few months, I feel better than I have in a long time: my legs are stronger, my endurance greater and I'm more optimistic. I'm grateful to Dr. Moramarco for sharing his knowledge and insight in The Way of Walking. I feel this system will be the backbone of my own life-long physical fitness program.

Best book on the best exercise!
This is definately the best book on the subject of walking. Author MoraMarco explains a simple strategy for maintaining health and gives several examples of various styles of walking. Also included are sample programs and resources to look up. I often stress to my patients that walking 20 minutes a day is the best exercise. It circulates the blood, helps burn calories, and can help keep you young. Buy the book as a gift for a loved one. It will definately let them know you care!

I Love the Magic Tree House Series!
This is my favorite book in the whole Magic Tree House series, because they wrote about a new dinosaur called Giganotosaurus. It was even bigger than T-Rex, and if they find more fossils of Giganotosaurus, it will be the king of dinosaurs. I think it was funny when Annie pretended to be Dromiceiomimus because she looked silly with huge eyes!

Fun, entertaining and educational.
What a wonderful idea. Mary Pope and Will Osborne share the research that they put in to writing "Dinosaurs Before Dark" with their readers in a fun and entertaining way. My 8-year old daughter has devoured this book and "Knights and Castles : A Nonfiction Companion to the Knight at Dawn". These books are not only instructing her on the particular subject of each book, but they are also teaching her how to do research on her own. They also build vocabulary and fill her head with wonderous thoughts and questions. I highly recommend this series to every young reader and their parents.

Wow!
I was spellbound by the biography of John McAfee on TV and simply had to find out more about him. I borrowed his book from a friend at work and finished it in one sitting. All I can say is WOW! I feel like my brain has been sucked out, rearranged, and siphoned back inside my head. I sat, still, after putting the book down, and felt like I was in a dream. I was awe struck. This book has given me glimpses of the reality behind our computers that I never dreamed of. My problem now is (since it's out of print and I can't find it anywhere for sale) how do I tell my friend that I lost his copy:)

Profound description of virus technology. Incredibly good.
This book is a mind blower. McAfee's genius shines through every page. It brings computer technology to life in a way that's indescribable. You have to read it to understand. Beg, borrow, steal or buy this book. You won't regret it.

Delightful Reading
I dug this book up at the library after the recent PBS television special highlighting John McAfee and his early shareware successes. I was amazed at the insights McAfee had at the dawn of the virus age. Over ten years ago he acurately predicted almost everything that has occured in the area of computer security and hacker intrusions, including viruses like the "Love Bug", and the confusion surrounding the millenium bug. Once I started the book I was unable to put it down. It's written in an easy to read style and unfolds the world of virus writers and virus technology in a compelling stream of revelations. While this book is one of the older books on viruses, it is a fresh and current today as any book on the subject. If you have even the remotest interest in the subject you've gotta get this one.

Wonderful book for kids of all ages
This is a wonderful book for kids of all ages. The reference works in back to museums, internet sites and other books is well done. I recommend this book for any one who has children interested in Knights and Castles!

Terrific Reference for Middle Ages * Art * Theme!
I'm an artist and art teacher, and after discovering this book, I ordered copies for my middle school ART students! While it's an easy read for students of this age (5th through 7th grade), it's packed with understandable text and pictures. It's a great reference for the various art projects that my students are doing as part of our study of the Middle Ages, and the kids have really enjoyed it....

Knights and Castles
Mary Pope Osborne does it again!

Our Family loves the Magic Tree House series. They hit us on many levels. Our youngest loves to be read to, our next just hit chapter books, our oldest is beyond this intro. level chapter books - but loves this series & reads the books over and over.

I am delighted to introduce reasearch ideas in such a non-threatening, inviting manner to my children. Learning and reading is so fun; and this concept sheds new light for a young audience. Not only will this help after reading the MTH series, it will add a new dimension when going on field trips, museums, the library, the internet, etc. I am going to share this book with our elementary school.

Ms. Osborne and her husband take the opportunity to be thorough, while simplifying for young minds - and the illustrations keep a young reader's attention.

Bravo! Keep 'em coming.

Good, but the Miraculous Sections May Throw Some Readers Off
Although Dipa Ma Bura died in 1987, those who know something of her might very well acknowledge her still as one of the greatest Theravada meditation teachers who taught in America to date. As the book review and other reviewers have pointed out, people like Joseph Goldstein (author of 'One Dharma'), Sharon Salzburg (A Heart as Wide as the World), and Jack Kornfield (Teachings of the Buddha) all trained under her guidance. In this presentation of her body of work we are now able to see the startling spirituality present in this woman's very being. Students who trained in India and America under her still tribute her with remarkable praise.

She had been born and raised in India (Calcutta, to be exact), and at the age of 12 as so many young Indian women do, she was sent of to marry a man 33 years her elder. That initial marriage did not wind up working, and so she left for Burma and lived with another man. Her husband died and left her with a 7 year old young daughter to raise alone, which drove her into depression. Yet one night she had a dream where Buddha Shakyamuni came before her, at which point her entire life changed. With amazing intensity she was able to meditate with utter concentration, teaching the vipassana method to others in Calcutta. She was said to possess 'special powers' of the mind, to which I am admittedly skeptical. Stories of cooking food with no fire, or reading people's minds - even time travel. To me, these stories are not necessary to take something from her teaching, because 'miracles' can make students become attached to miracle teachings and thus discount anything they find 'not so special.' If that makes sense?

All in all, Knee Deep in Grace has a lot of PRACTICAL advice, advice on how to approach any situation as feasible. Her impression left with us is that of an almost saintly woman, who held vipassana meditation in her tiny apartment nearly every day up to her death. Enjoy the book.

The most inspiring book a meditator will ever read
I really didn't know much about Dipa Ma except that Sharon Salzberg had studied with her. But when I read an excerpt from this book in Tricycle, I went out immediately and bought it. And my God, am I glad I did.

I have been meditating 2-3 hours EVERY DAY since I read this wonderful book--it just takes away any reluctance to immerse yourself in the practice. Dipa Ma's story is inspiring, but more than that, there is more incredible wealth of practical, inspiring advice in this little volume than in ten books twice its size.

Please buy and read this book--you won't regret it!

My Favorite Book
A good friend of mine in San Jose recommended me to read this book, and she said she would reimburse me if I were not satisfied. Well, I have read it again and again, with footnotes, translation into Vietnmese for friends; and I have already ordered ten books to send to my firends as a "token of my gratitude" to them. I have also e-mailed to friends everywhere telling them to read it to "strengthen your self confidence that laypeople can also gain the highest jhana, and a poor, uneducated woman can also become a Saint". I will also write a book review and ask my good friend Dr. Jane Rand to write the Review in English to be published in the bilingual (Vietnamese-English)in the Dat Lanh Buddhist Review Magazine in San Diego.
With deepest gratitude to Ami Schmidt for her excellent work. We all expect you to write similar books in the future.

Piazzolla fans should buy this book!
This is the best and most complete document about the life and work of Astor Piazzolla. The authors inter-link Piazzolla's work with the major events of his life and the artistic and political context of the time. If you are really interested in learning about Piazzolla, you should go ahead and buy this book.

An Engaging Hagiography
Nearly ten years after Astor Piazzolla's death, the debate still rages about whether or not his music is "tango". Well, some of it is, and some of it isn't. But the roots of all his music lie deep in the tango tradition and whether or not a particular piece is or isn't tango is of no real importance. The fact is that Astor Piazzolla composed some of the finest music in any genre and all Argentines can take pride in that. I have been a fan of Astor Piazzolla for nearly 30 years but only knew the music. After having read Le Grand Tango, I now feel as though I know the man. Having "met" him, my understanding and admiration of both the music and the man has increased exponentially. Azzi and Collier have authored an easy to follow, entertaining and informative book about El Maestro. One learns not only about his music but about his forceful personality and the forces which shaped Piazzolla and drove him to be the most dazzling musician of the 20th century. His life, his loves, his triumphs and his failures all spring to life here. Though most readers will likely be hardcore fans of Piazzolla, its flowing style makes it an engaging hagiographical read for anyone who has even a mild interest in music history or in the forces and personalities which have shaped and regenerated tango throughout second half of the 20th century.

Azzi and Collier have written a masterpiece.
Piazzola means tango for many people. The first tango music I ever purchased was Piazzola's music. His music dominated Sally Porter's movie, "Tango Lesson." This is a man that you must know about if you like tango, the dance and the music. Even if your interest is 20th century music, you will be fascinated. The story of Piazzola's life is a story of how cultures, music, and people are interrelated. As a person who was born in Argentina, his music was tango; as a kid named "Lefty" who grew up in Manhattan, he felt the influence of jazz. As a musician known as "El Gato," he built on the tango traditions of Troilo, Sarli, and Pugliese.

He began his musical career as a musician who could not read music. Anibal Troilo hired Piazzola because he had memorized the band's repertoire. He studied music and composition while playing in tango groups, and went on for more formal training in Paris. Piazzola loved everything from the classical music of Rubenstein to the jazz of Gershwin. Although we think of Piazzola in terms of tango, many of his contemporary tango aficionados hated his music because it was nontraditional, evolutionary, and avant gard.

This book was of value to me because it increased my understanding not just of Piazzola, but also of the major twentieth century tango musicians and composers. It may not make me a better dancer, but the increase of knowledge added to my appreciation of the music not just of Piazzola, but also of Pablo Ziegler, Romulo Larrea, and Felix Leclerc. It was a fitting complement to "Tango!" a collaborative book by Simon Collier, Artemis Cooper, Maria Susana Azzi, and Richard Martin. You don't have to be a serious student of music to enjoy either book. It will add to your appreciation of tango.
