I had heard about the books from a friend at work, and got three for Christmas (Woman's soul, Woman's soul II, and Mother's soul). I don't normally enjoy reading but could not put the books down, in a matter of a week, I read two of them. They are absolutely wonderful. The Chicken Soup for the Mother's soul, WOW, what a book! It's awesome, and the stories touch the heart. Some of them even bring tears to my eyes. I recommend these books to anyone and am forwarding the Mother's soul book onto my mother.

This book is GREAT...As a mother of an 10 & 12 yr olds, this book makes me realize how thankful I am to have kids. Any Mom will understand & enjoy these stories. They made me laugh and they made me cry. This is my 1st Chicken Soup book, my daughter has one also, now we have started a " book collection " that our family will enjoy reading together for years to come. Take the time to enjoy a GREAT selection of books.

I received my first Chicken Soup book from my father six years back and since then there has been no stopping. I continue to be a voracious reader of these lovely series. I have recommended them to many of my friends too.

Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul is one book which I feel all women must read irrespective of whether they have arrived at the threshold of motherhood or not. Heart-warming stories, personal experiences, and moving tales comprise this book, which will on more than one occassion make you grab a tissue and wipe your moist eyes. The illustrations in this book are hilarious too. As you read this book, you shall reflect upon the happiness and pain of your own relationship with your mother. One of the finest and sweetest books you can gift to your near and dear ones. They will always thank you for this book.

I shall take the liberty of quoting one of the proverbs in this book.
"God cannot be everywhere so He made mothers."

There...I rest my case. Nothing further needs to be said in honor of this exquisite book.

5 Steps to a 5 is an excellent AP Calculus review book. Its comprehensive review of the AB curriculum makes calculus incredibly easy to understand. The sample problems and detailed explanations of their answers help students to gain a complete understanding of calculus problems as well as the ability to solve the problems themselves. Now that I have taken the AP test, I can say that this book is definitely the best way to prepare for it!

This book is excellent not only as a pre-AP review but also as a way of keeping up with the Calculus material throughout the year. Every chapter reviews the concepts and includes many different types of sample problems to prepare you for whatever problem you may get on the AP. If you feel as if you don't know a certain topic, using this book to go through that chapter is extremely helpful, so this doesn't need to be used only for review a week before the AP. The extra problems in each chapter provide valuable practice on each topic. In addition, the book contains helpful lists of formulas and equations so you don't need to go back through every unit to find all of them. Finally, this review contains several practice exams so that you can test yourself before the real exam, and the exam problems are very similar to those that actually appear on the real AP.

This book is definitely extremely helpful, both as supplementary review during the year and as review before the AP exam.

Elementary school teachers are expected to teach almost everything: math, reading, science, social studies, and writing; along with nurturing, soothing, and encouraging. It's not an easy job. It's also hard to be an expert in any one piece of the job. But now, many are hearing that we're losing the "math race" to other countries. The drums of "teacher competency" are booming... and any wise teacher knows where the drum sticks will be landing next!

Liping Ma's book comes at an opportune time for those teachers and should be read by all. It dives into a central problem that elementary teachers face when we consider improving our math programs: How could going off and learning more math help, for instance, in a 4th grade fractions unit? Furthermore, having, typically, been taught mathematics, ourselves, as a process of memorizing and applying procedures, we often teach it that way as well, thinking "how much more can I study the 'flip and multiply' rule for fraction division?"

This book answers those and many other questions, while opening many new ones. There's more to math, even "kids math" than meets the eye.

Ma demonstrates that American teachers do not necessarily suffer from a lack of breadth or extensiveness of mathematical training. Adding more 'higher math' to our training really would not help us teach arithmetic. We lack deep knowledge of "fundamental mathematics." Ma's claim is that what we need to do is to dig deeper into the underpinnings of "elementary" math - to discover that there is much more to understand about such fundamental concepts. There really is much more to subtraction than remembering when to "regroup." Division of fractions actually represents two or three fundamentally different processes which, confused, can be at the center of students (and teachers) uncertainty. Imagine that!

These are thought provoking ideas, well presented. In the face of a growing national debate about "competency", we would do well to add this element to the discussion of math teaching. Otherwise, the politicians will provide their inevitably simplistic answers.

I am working on certification in secondary mathematics. This one book has given me more insight into what is wrong with mathematics education in the USA and what needs to be done than anything else I have read or discussed in class.

The author's key point is that even the best elementary school math teachers in this country have only a shallow, cookbook knowledge of arithmetic and are not trained to think mathematicaly.

One consequence is that the emphasis in mathematics teacher training on new instructional practices: use of manipulatives, "authentic assessment" collaborative learning, etc. is at best misplaced.

There is much interesting information on Chinese educational practices. Math at all levels is taught by specialists who have only the equivalent of a Chinese high school education. Classes are very large but teachers have about an hour of time for preparation, grading homework, and student conferences for every hour of instruction. Chinese math teachers spend many, many hours working with the curriculum as learners both individually and in groups.

The book is a rich source of ideas that might be adapted to the American environment to improve math instruction.

Excellent book for anyone interested in math. This should be mandatory reading for all future and current teachers! I see math in a new light. This book will inspire you to re-evaluate your own knowledge of elementary math, and to work from a procedural understanding of math to conceptual.

Never before has a tarot deck so totally touched me and brought me insights into my own life. The Osho Zen Tarot card, is not like your traditional Tarot, but something more. Each card has a beautiful image with one single word, and when the cards are lade out in front of you, many of your questions can be answered. I use the Osho Zen Tarot as a great tool for meditation, you know sometimes the mind wonders when we meditate, and this is an excellent way to control the mind. Ask a question as you begin to meditate and pull out one card and meditate on that certain card.

The Osho Zen tarot is good for your own Spiritual Work, or for giving readings to those who are also on a Spiritual Road. But do not confuse this deck with your average Fortune Telling Tool, or Tarot Deck, as this deck will confuse those who seek answers to love, money and material gain. The Osho Zen Tarot is a tool for inner and Spiritual Growth. The Osho Zen tarot is excellent when working with your Spirit Guides, Ancestors or Angel Guides. Place these on your Ancestral Shrine, and when ever you want an answer from your Spirit Guides or Ancestors lay the cards out, and get ready for a bit of enlightment.

This is a beautiful and poignant Tarot Deck. I received it as a gift several years ago, when I finally dusted it off and started reading through it, it is very easy to learn. The pictures are beautiful and the cards give full descriptions. The book is a wonderful teacher, with a little work. They work well as meditation cards, also. I have found that there is little interpretation needed as with traditional Tarot Cards. And every reading has been illuminating and very correct. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this deck. The book explains things easily and gives explanations on how to solve problems, versus just telling you the problem.

The authors present a simplistic notion of therapy and hypnosis. Their talk of "mini-minds" reminded me of the movie Austin Powers. You won't find sophisticated theory here, but there is much of practical value. This book is definitely worth owning as a reference manual, but it is overpriced for what you get.

The book has a a variety of inductions, emerging scripts and scripts for dealing with assortment of situations a hypnotherapist may encounter in his practice. Most scripts contain metaphors which may work more effectively in one-on-one practice if they are adapted to the one's that may be more meaningful for the client.

Here's a sample script from this collection:

I really began appreciating this book after attending an Ericksonian hypnotherapy workshop. The induction scripts are good examples of the different kinds of inductions and are usable as written. The metaphors (where the work gets done) are also very useful as is but as you get more experienced they make great bases for customized scripts. The chapter "on doing hypnotherapy" is one of the best introductions to the art I've seen. This is the one book I use regularly while doing therapy with clients.

As an experienced drama therapist, Deborah Antinori understands the importance of using creativity and imagery to help move grief from the intellectual realm, to the emotional one. Anyone suffering from the loss of a special friend should experience Deborah's unique approach to healing. She provides valuable ideas in a way that feels very personal and meaningful.

In Journey Through Pet Loss, Deborah Antinori address every aspect of losing a beloved family pet including coping with feelings, memorial tributes for animals, burial and cremation issues, grief phases and tasks, complicated mourning, associations to other losses, what to tell children, and other forms of pet loss such as lost pets and pets who must be given away. This two-cassette, three hour, audiobook production is technically flawless and will prove to be an invaluable and much appreciated addition to personal, school, and public library collections.

Sometimes losing a dear animal friend can seem more overwhelming than the loss of a human in our lives. This is one of the many things that complicate the grieving process. The author explains that there are many bounds set by society and our own inner voice that attempt to dictate how long and how much we should mourn a beloved companion's passing. She explains why the loss of an animal can be a much more raw experience than the loss of a family member, friend or relative because of the mixed feelings and complicated relationships that we have with other humans. That simple, loving animal spirit that was so close to you is suddenly gone. There is no buffering element, no memories of a heated exchange that soured your relationship - nothing to blunt the pain. This can bring feelings of confusion and guilt, or painful memories of the loss of a child or spouse, and many other emotions. The author does an excellent job of explaining the reasons for these feelings, and suggests many different ways of working through them. She explains the phases of the grieving process and where to find help if serious emotional states are triggered. She also explains that we frequently project a part of our own psyche onto our pets, which can unleash unexpected effects on their passing.

Despite the fact that I might have made this sound rather technical, it is not. The author puts forth a very gentle and concerned effort to do what the title implies - help you through the journey of pet loss.

It has been a long time, probably eight years, since I read this book, but I still remember it fondly. I'm now a senior in college, majoring in history, and as I sat in History of World War II today, I thought of how much I learned from this book. I enjoyed it, and now I really want to reread it. It is a good read, and it stays with you. A must for anyone interested in the perspective of a civilian living under Nazi and later Russian occupation. I also particularly remember the afterward and how much I enjoyed it, how the author fell in love with an American and married him. It was so touching, and it made me love the book even more.

I'm reading this book for the second time and I still love it! It's about a ballet dancer named Emmy, who struggles with the changes of World War 2 and how she copes with going from a sheltered life to poverty. I whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone

Eleven years after the first time I read this book, it is still one of my favorites. I ordered it when I was in the 7th grade from one of those Scholastic order sheets, and read it over and over and over again. Now I teach 7th grade and am excited to read it to my class. I lost my original copy, but am extremely relieved to have found a copy on-line. This copy I will keep close at all times!
