"On The Plus Side"
First I'd like to thank Ms. Darhower for sharing her touching story with everyone. (THANK YOU!) "SEEK HIS FACE HE WILL PROVIDE," is a very well-written guide for those who suffer from Bipolar Disorder or anyone that knows someone who does suffer from it. After seeing this book advertised I had to buy it, read it, and then post a word, or two, about the subject matter of this book. I have a nephew who suffers from Bipolar Disorder and this book has been a blessing in itself for him. Ms. Darhower has put (so easily) into words what I couldn't to help Josh understand about this Disorder. He is only eighteen and this book has really opened his eyes in many ways that we (his family) had difficuilty understanding ourselves. Once again, THANK YOU MS. DARHOWER On A Job Well-Done!

Encouragement for Christians diagnosed with bipolar disorder
This book is the best I've found for Christians living with bipolar disorder. The author is a Christian and speaks honestly about her own personal experiences. She gives encouragement and support for people who are in the midst of mania and depression and are struggling with their faith. She makes me feel like I am not alone in my doubts and confusion while experiencing the ups and downs of living with the illness. She gives assurance that God does not abandon us and gives practical Bible references to treasure.

Very Positive
I read this book recently and am very thankful for the positive encouragement and support it gives to Christians living with bipolar disorder (like myself). I have been searching for years for a book like this and am extremely grateful that Amazon carries this book.

He Will NEVER Leave You Nor Forsake You
I [the Lord] will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19

Pastor Robert J. Morgan of Nashville, Tennessee, author of 'On This Day' and 'Tiny Talks with God' uses the story of Moses and the Israelites, as an example to explain the ten (10) God-given strategies for difficult times. Remember when Moses and the Israelites were caught between "the devil (Pharoah) and the deep Red Sea?" God delivered them from the adversary and parted the Red Sea for thier escape. The same way we're overwhelmed by life's problems. God will deliver us, too. 'The Red Sea Rules' reveals even in the worst situation God will make a way. His promise and loving guidance will protect us through all the troubles, challenges and obstacles Satan puts in our way.

These ten (10) strategies will move you from fear to faith:
Rule 1. Realize that God means for you to be where you are.
Rule 2. Be more concerned for God's glory than for your relief.
Rule 3. Acknowledge your enemy, but keep your eyes on the Lord.
Rule 4. Pray.
Rule 5. Stay calm and confident, and give God time to work.
Rule 6. When unsure, just take the next logical step by faith.
Rule 7. Envision God's enveloping presence.
Rule 8. Trust God to deliver in His own unique way.
Rule 9. View your current crisis as a faith builder for the future.
Rule 10. Don't forget to praise Him.

No matter where you are in life's storm-east or west, up, down and under. God will make a way. No sea is deeper than the ocean of His Love. No army, force or enemy can overcome His throne of grace and His work in our lives. Just like the reality of the Red Sea, God will always make a way for His trusting children, even if He must split the sea to do it. Sometime time ago, a friend told me of this book of how much of an impact it made in their life. It was the only book that they would refer to in time of encouragement and hope. If you're going through a difficult time in your life I recommend this. It's my companion I can look to. A reminder that there is a God who loves and cares to make a future plan for all of us. Just trust Him.

Possibly the most encouraging book I have read in years
I received this book last week as encouragement from a friend. While I have yet to overcome the current obstacles in my own life, I am reassured and even confident that God is in control. God will be glorified! While I have been involved in church and even ministry most of my life, the simplicity of the Israelites' story and the profound truths the author has pointed out firmly establish why I can have hope as a Christian. The truths about God's love and care have never been clearer or more meaningful to me as the author directs me to reflect on God's providence for His own. I have been so blessed by this book that I came to this website to see about getting multiple copies through which I may encourage others! As my friend wrote wrote, "May the Holy Spirit use this humble book to encourage you and give you greater faith and hope for the future - we know, because God cannot lie - that His plans for us are only good!"

Great things in small packages.
This is one of those books where the author takes a familiar Bible story (the Israelites at the Red Sea, the Egyptians at their back) and shines light on it in such a way that you say, "Wow, I never saw it quite that way before." He distills 10 thought-provoking statements that become the "rules", life principles that I'm working to commit to my feeble memory.

The book was recommended to me by a friend who stumbled across it while going through a very difficult time in his life -- he felt smack up against an uncrossable sea with an enemy in pursuit. God used the book to remind him of God's sovereignty and power in that situation. The life threatening situation became a life-changing opportunity. The same has now happened for me.

And all that in this tiny, easily digestible book. Awesome!

Energized and easy to follow
Feeling Good For Life manages to explain the most current research on the connection between mood and exercise--but without being over the head of a casual reader interested in getting in shape and putting some new focus into the daily routine. Mr. Salazar's passion for the subject is evident...and judging by the illustrations of his exercise techniques that accompany the step-by-step planner, he practices what he preaches! An upbeat and practical first effort.

The benefits of incorporating aerobics
Feeling Good For Life by psychologist and certified personal trainer Marcos Salazar offers the reader a diet and exercise system for significantly improved health and demonstrably better muscle tone that will substantially help to overcome the darkness of depression and enjoy life to the fullest. Individual chapters address the benefits of incorporating aerobics, weight training, proper nutrition, and much more into one's life. An excellent and thoughtful guide to personal improvement, Feeling Good For Life is recommended reading for anyone seeking to improve their physical and mental well being.

Great book!
I had never encountered a book before which specifically addresses the relationship between depression and exercise in a clear and fun format- anyone feeling a bit low or anyone looking to figure out exactly why they feel so great when they are exercising regularly should grab a copy of the book! I particularly found the photos in the back depicting the author performing various weight baring exercises to be an excellent template for my own training. (He's pretty damn hot too!)

Powerful Wisdom for Confused People
Many sincere believers in their commendable desire to seek God's will wind up using very un-Biblical methods of guidance. With the knowledge of a Biblical scholar, the clarity of an excellent teacher, and the wisdom of one who has walked with the Lord a long time, Bruce Waltke has given us a wonderful summary and practical description of what it truly means to seek God's will (and Waltke explains and clarifies all the meanings that phrase can carry). As the author would say, "One does not divine God's will. One lives God's will as one comes to know Him through His word." (pp. 71).

This is not merely a critique of many modern ways of "seeking God's will", but also a Biblical description of God's pattern of guidance for the believer. As his later chapter titles sum up, God's program for guidance includes (in order): Read your Bible, Develop a Heart for God, Seek Wise Counsel, Look for God's Providence, Does this Make Sense? and (rarely) Divine Intervention. Dr. Waltke has reminded us all that our Father is not one who hides His overall purpose for our lives, and the author does a great job of showing us how our loving Father guides and leads His children. Pick up a copy today - even if you aren't facing a "major decision" right now, it will still help you gain wisdom and direction in how to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

A Passionate Plea for Biblical Sanity
IT always amazes me that those who read and study their Bibles know more about it that those who would get their theology from an emotional worship service. THis book had about the same impact on me that lightnng has on a tree. Personally, this book could not have come at a better time; I was pleading with "wishy-washy" Christians to go to the Bible for discernment on wether this was God's will.
Dr. Waltke bridges the gap between scholar and lay person without compromising truth. The first chapter he gives horrid examples of Christians who follow mis-guided adivce (we are all guilty of at least one example) adn later on in the book he shows the biblical counterpart. The Book is not very long, esay to read, and packed with dynamite. The Chapter on 'reading the bible' is worth the price of the book. Again those who read their bible, this will not come as a surprise. However, if you get your direaction from extreme emotions, this book will be a painful challenge. I really wanted to give the book 18 stars but that was not an option. By the book. Ask for as many free copies as you can and give them to your sorely sincere but misguided friends...

An excellent book for living for God
I once knew a Christian who was considering buying a new sports car. In order to determine what God's will was on the issue, she opened her Bible, at random. The verse she picked happened to mention silver--the color of the car. She took that as God's approval for purchasing the car. Similar horror stories are scattered through Waltke's "Finding the Will of God." He wrote about common mistakes (Pagan mistakes) Christians use to conjure up God's will. More importantly, Waltke outlines how we can actually live in God's will, without relying on superstition, guesses, or other poor theologies.

His advice is amazingly simple and refreshingly sound. He lists steps, such as reading the Bible (to actually know God, and not some random verse), seeking the advice of Christian friends, etc. Essentially, his advice boils down to this: know God. Waltke wrote that the God who would give his own Son to save us, would not hide his will. We don't need to search for his will, as much as need to focus on knowing God.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who is the theological librarian at a divinity school. I was struggling with some choices and "Finding the Will of God" offered clear, biblical, and practical ideas. Waltke's style is easy to understand. The chapters are arranged in a logical sequence, and are short enough to read through easily. Most of all, the book really made me think about what it means to "know God." I would strongly recommend this book to any Christian, but especially to those who are concerned about making biblical decisions and living a life that pleases God.

One of the best books I've read in a long time!
How do we know God's will for our lives? How do we listen? How does He speak to us? Are we doing something wrong? Does God REALLY care about the small details of our lives here on earth?

These are big questions and so essential to our Christian lives. There are LOTS of books on knowing God's will. I haven't read them all (but I've read a lot of Amazon reviews on them! ), but THIS book is really helpful. Rather than a giving a set prescription or magic formula to pray to find out God's will, Robert Jeffress takes us through Bible passages that tell us that God DOES care about us, even the little things.

The author talks about the different ways we can hear from God. Feeling confused because you've been praying for God to speak to you? How about looking around at your circumstances? God works through those too!

I can't begin to summarize this book. You see, I'd checked it out from the public library, and over a period of weeks (yes, there were overdue fines - I should've just bought it!), I took voluminous notes on it. I didn't want to miss a single important point, so I've got it all written down. No doubt I'll be going back to those notes and again and again and eventually I'll buy my own copy of this book!

So read this book - it's informative, easy-follow, and enjoyable to read. You might want to check out my other reviews of Christian books and music.

Book By Jeffress Facilitates Static Removal
Author Robert Jeffress has done it again! In "Hearing the Master's Voice", he brings his usual fresh style and doctrinal precision to bear on the weighty and often confusing issue of the will of God. Readers will find helpful insights in all ten chapters. Of particular significance, however, are the chapters on what one can know and will never know about the will of God and what one can know when he or she has made the wrong decision. This book can assist readers in correcting inaccurate ideas and false perceptions about how one can know God's will. They can think of it as a tool for removing static from their own lines of communication with the God who is always there.

youth pastor reviews newest book on knowing God's will
As a local youth pastor I loved the practical way the issue of knowing and discovering God's will was handled by Robert Jeffress. I have read numerous books through the years on this subject, and i would rate this book as one of the best ever, and probably the best book in at least 10 years to come out on this subject. One of the most often asked questions among teenagers is ,"how do I find God's will for my life?" This book does an amazing job of simply and yet thoroughly answering that question. It is also a great book to teach, because it is so clearly outlined, easy to follow, and practical. Anyone can take this book and teach it in any setting.I think that every youth minister, and pastor for that matter, could teach a series using this book with their people. Again, the book was great for me personally, as well as being useful in teaching it to others, and I highly recommend it.

Christian Self-Mastery: How to Govern Your Thoughts, Discipline Your Will, and Achieve Balance in Your Spiritual Life

A Brilliant Guide to Christian Self-Mastery
This book is an abridged edition of Maturin's longer work titled "Self-Knowledge and Self-Discipline," and includes minor revisions to the original text. Maturin's book is comprised of nine chapters, each with a prescriptive title requiring action from the reader as follows: 1) Develop self-knowledge; 2) Discipline yourself; 3) Abide by the laws of the spirit; 4) Train your will; 5) Control your thoughts; 6) Strive for balance; 7) Govern your body; 8) Sacrifice the good for what is better; 9) Persevere.

According to Maturin, Christian self-mastery is based on two spheres of knowledge: knowledge of God and of ourselves. "To know God is to know self" (pg. 6). He emphasizes in Chapter 1 our self-ignorance and how we can attain to self-knowledge, which he distinguished from self-analysis. We must also test our self-knowledge and learn to examine ourselves in the light of Christ. In Chapter 2, he clears up confusion regarding the nature of sin and points out that no human faculty is bad in itself but can be misdirected. "When we take these God-given powers and use them for an unworthy end, we sin" (pg. 41). We must turn our God-give powers to the good. He also states that the true principle of all Christian self-discipline is the same one that inspired Christ who, for the joy set before him, endured the cross. Discipline is a means to a glorious end, not an end in itself. Maturin also admonishes us to subdue our rebellious will. Here is where the reader must carefully study and compare chapters because throughout the remainder of the book, he attributes the will to the "law of the members" that is under the "law of habit" and the "law of sin". Chapter 3 distinguished between four laws as presented by the apostle Paul in the book of Romans: the law of the members which ties into the law of sin, and the law of the mind (the conscience) which ties into the law of the Spirit of Life that leads one to Christ. Chapter 4 introduces the law of habit and the law of perseverance. The former is tied to the body (the law of the members) whereas the latter, in the sanctification process, is tied to the soul (the law of the mind). Here it is emphasized that choosing the good grows easier with habit through perseverance. This chapter introduces the concept of character and explains how there are many forces that form it. Also, Maturin points out that one's character will last beyond this life. One critical point to remember here is what he calls the one measure of every character which is addressed by the following two-fold question: "Does the will strive after what the man believes to be right, or does it deliberately and consciously choose what he believes to be wrong?" He continues: "The answer that his life gives to these questions will enable us to form a very good estimate of his character." Although Maturin attributes the will to the law of the members, he is addressing the soul throughout the book which implies that the soul has a will of its own that either strives to do good or deliberately chooses what it believes to be wrong. The "will of the flesh" must be subdued by the will of the soul. In fact, in Chapter 7 we are told to submit our flesh to our spirit. Another area that will require careful study is how Maturin uses the terms flesh and spirit, on the one hand, and body and soul on the other. They are not necessarily synonymous, so one must look at the context to determine how these terms are used because he doesn't clearly define them. Chapter 5 is paramount. Here Maturin notes that our thoughts color our experience, but we can drive out bad thoughts with good ones and the mind can be trained to habitually choose certain thoughts. Controlling one's thoughts requires prudence. Also, the memory and imagination are important guides that should not be abused.

Chapter 6 introduces the concept of balance not only internally, within one's soul, but also externally among one's relationships. He also wisely points out the positive use of the emotions, including hate and anger. Chapter 7 discusses the physical body and the proper, balanced care of it and how it relates to one's resurrected body. He also says we should deny it whatever weakens our soul's union with God. Chapter 8 notes that mortification isn't an end in itself. He also points out the balance necessary to understanding how life and death relate to the Christian walk. We must be ready to "die" to rise to a higher state of life. Life progresses through death as we surrender to God's grace and Christ imparts divine life to us. Chapter 9 is the shortest one and reiterates the fact that life is the school of character and we need to persevere. This is a favorite book of mine because of it's loving exposition on the important subject of self-mastery.

Guide to self-discipline
Father Maturin outlines a guideline in which a person may master the skills of self discipline for a life time.
The insight and knowledge is with merit as a tool for living.
If one should wonder about the necessity for such a tool, the book offers the human physic at its norm and assists it to evaluate it to its best ability and self control.

A powerful, thought-provoking book on being a "whole single"
An excellent read!! Kudos to the author. This book inspired me to rethink my current relationship and begin seeing GOD first. The way Mrs. Simone serves it to reader, their is no doubt that GOD had both broke and blessed this book. Thank You -- sometimes you just need a refresher course, this was it. Everyone checkout the chapters on "Romancing the Stone" and "How'd she got her Boaz"

A must read for all Single Women Struggling with Singleness!
This book is a must read by for all single women. I received this book from a friend, it was the best book I have read on being single and trust me, I have read alot of those book...can you say all?!?! This book helped me to build a stronger relationship with the Lord, as well as get rid of a dead-end relationship! Great job Nikki!!! You will not regret purchasing this book for you or extras for your friends.

With This Ring I Thee Wed
Author Nikki Simone presents a straightforward faith-based guideline for women in their "season of singleness." In her book BEFORE I DO, I WILL, each chapter provides insight into the relationship a woman should seek with God in her quest to be a wife. It reminds the reader that "He who finds a wife, finds a good thing" (Proverbs 18:22) meaning that a woman should develop her wifely characteristics before actually walking down the aisle! The book helps to demonstrate why a single woman should invite God into her life as her husband prior to considering marriage to help prepare her for her future mate!

A woman's relationship with God is a popular topic, however, Ms. Simone manages to bring a fresh perspective to the subject. She does a great job in providing examples and citing Biblical references. The book flowed easily from chapter to chapter and will capture the reader's attention. This is definitely a must-read for any single woman desiring to have a closer relationship to God.

Very good book
I heard about this book in a sermon when I was visiting my sister's place of fellowship in Houston, Tx. The pastor's sermon was centered around the title of this book. It ministered so deeply to me my in time of hurt and seriously doubting God, that I knew I had to have it. I just finished reading it tonight. Through reading this book, my trust in God has been restored, and my soul has been somehow quieted, knowing that God is at work behind the scene. This book is a must read. Yet, I must caution, it is only for the serious readers. It reveals an aspect of God's character that is only appreciated through active, close fellowship. This book will challange you to move beyond a casual distant relationship with God, and literally woo you into deep personal intimacy with Him. As you seriously consume what is conveyed in this book, it will bring a calmness, a quietness, and a confidence in your soul. For the essence of the message of this book is that "all things work together for the good of those who love God". Therefore, even the bad things are good "ultimately", if not "proximately". This book is not an "easy" read. In some places it is a little belabored theologically, but I believe the author used it to make every effort to get his point across. If your faith is in shambles, and you are doubting God, this book may prove to be a life-line to you. It was to me. Take the time to read it. It's well worth the investment.

Providence Explained
This is one of the best books I have read on God's providence. With rich Scriptural references and stories, the author shows the extent of God's involvement with His creation.

The fingerprints of God
I've been wanting to review this book for some time now, but my review won't do it justice. Not since I read one of Sproul's earlier books, The Holiness of God, has a book simultaneously shaken my soul and comforted it with the presence of God in this way. This one follows the tradition. Renown for his thought-provoking teachings, Sproul takes the doctrines of God's immanence and providence down from the ivory tower and underscores them in the lives of the biblical characters as well as his own. This is theology at it's finest...truth for living.

Sproul's purpose in writing this book is "to look at the question of providence, not only from a doctrinal viewpoint, but chiefly from an examination of concrete experiences of the flesh-and-blood people whose lives and struggles are recorded for us in sacred Scripture" (2). And this he does par excellence. You can almost feel Abraham's stomach churn as he ponders the immanent sacrifice of his beloved son Isaac, while splitting firewood for the altar early in the morning. You can almost hear the waves of the Nile lapping against the basket of bulrushes which contained the future leader of God's chosen people from slavery to the promised land. You can almost see Joseph's bloodied, mangled, technicolor coat as he wept in the presence of his brothers, compassionately telling them, "you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive" (Gen. 50:20). Our God is not "out there". . . He is right here.

Some of the areas of God's providence that this book touches on deal with God's involvement with His creation through miracles, the display of His glory, evil in the world, prayer, the flow of history and the history of redemption. At least one chapter is devoted to each of these topics which are very broad topics in and of themselves, but Sproul briefly touches on the involvement of God in each one of them displaying His love and purpose for His creation.

Sproul says that providence "is not merely that God looks at human affairs. The point is that He looks after human affairs. He not only watches us, He watches over us" (17). As far as the biblical teaching that all things that work together for good to those who love God is concerned, Sproul makes a clear distinction between the proximate, or soon occurring, and the ultimate. For example, we may experience things in our lives that are supremely good. These things are proximately and ultimately good. But we may also experience things that aren't good at all, but are for our good. Just like veggies to a kid, these things are proximately bad yet ultimately good. Sproul says that when Paul tells us that all things work together for good to those who love God, that he does not say that all things that happen are good things. What Paul is saying is that all things that happen to us, good and bad, are working together for our good. Ultimately it is good that these things happen to us (171).

One of the reasons why I love this book is because Sproul is such a ponderous writer and he writes with the views of history on the tip of his pen. He asks the hard questions and he's lets you search for the answers along with him. Sometimes the answers lead to more questions but never before learning something valuable about the providence and ways of Almighty God. If you've ever charged to the throne of God with the question, "Why?!", read this book. You'll gain invaluable insight into the purposes of God which will give you and incredible thirst for the "Unmoved Mover", as Aristotle called God. This book will bring you to your knees in tears at the feet of your creator God in awe as you realize his involvement in every detail of your life with the goals to make His desires yours and to change you into the likeness of His Son. Afterward, you'll be able to stand higher and firmer in the confidence that He is the sovereign Captain of your soul and the loving Master of your fate. I read this book at a time in my life that I would label "tragic" and it pointed me to the providential grace of God in a way that truly restored my soul to trust in my God. Sometimes He calms the storm . . . sometimes He calms the child.
