astonishing accurate
This is the first book about numerology I bought. And I don't regret it. The delineations of the destiny numbers and the detailed year cycles made me perplex. How can just a number reveal so much and be so true ?? Awesome !!

Insightful, accurate, and helpful.
Recently I came across "Life Cycles - Your Emotional Journey To Freedom And Happiness by Christine DeLorey." As soon as I started to read Christine's work, it became clear to me that she has been able to synthesize a deep understanding of Numerology with a rich sense of spirituality, psychology, and human nature. Christine's observations are not only insightful and accurate, they provide practical, helpful suggestions to work with the energies of a given moment. For example, as I write this review, I happen to be in the middle of a "4 Year - 9 Month". Her description of the challenging energies that I'm working with right now are right on. And, her specific suggestions on how to effectively use these energies are proving to be very helpful. Warm congratulations to Christine for a book that will touch many lives in a positive and empowering way.

Self Understanding Self Acceptance
Truly the way for us to understand and accept others is to understand and accept ourselves. And then, because we are all different, it helps to use some of the gifts of synchronicity to understand how our experiences can flow through cycles ... this book makes these understandings clear and rich and accessible.

The book is a keeper. It is the kind of book you can consult for your own cycles and the cycles of others as a way to understand life as process.

Christine DeLorey's emphasis on emotional literacy, free choice, responsibility, and the healing role of feelings is, for me, the unique contribution she makes in her numerology. People can also find her website by entering Creative Numerology in the search engine. There she shares her work in a way that allows visitors to do a quick check on their destiny numbers ... in case things aren't going your way at work at the moment ... a little reading and your perspective, balance, and inspiration return ...

A Woman's Book of Yoga: Embracing Our Natural Life Cycles
Published in Paperback by Avery Penguin Putnam (07 November, 2002)

"Simple practices to help you stay healthy, calm, and strong, and to carry you forward in a natural progression toward wisdom, real beauty, and the strength of realized grace that belongs to all women," promise Machelle M. Seibel, M.D., and Hari Kaur Khalsa, authors of A Woman's Book of Yoga.

The authors, a gynecologist and a yoga instructor, offer prescriptions for the transitions in women's lives. They teach the health and stress-reduction benefits of breathing, postural, and meditation exercises, including particular activities for menstruation, pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause, sexuality, and digestion. Spiritual as well as physical health benefits are stressed: "The goal of yoga is to reveal the connection between the human being and the Divine Self."

This is not a simple self-help book, but a serious, mindful guide for a beginning study of kundalini yoga: philosophy, spirituality, postures (illustrated), meditations, and health advantages are addressed. "The yoga itself is not the goal, but it is the key to opening the door to health, self-love, and self-realization," write the authors. --Joan Price

SPEAKS TO A WOMAN'S HEART
THIS BOOK HAS BEEN A BEAUTIFUL LIFE CHANGER FOR ME. I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT IT TO HELP WITH MY INFERTILITY ISSUES. WHILE IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY FOCUS ON THAT, IT DEALS IMMENSELY WITH A WOMAN'S SPIRITUALITY- IN ACCEPTING AND LOVING ONESELF. THE WONDERFUL EXERCISES BRING A DEEP SENSE OF CALM- IF DONE CONSISTANTLY AND CORRECTLY. IT INCLUDES MILD TEACHINGS OF THE KUNDALINI AND CHAKRAS, SEXUAL ISSUES, PMS, SELF ESTEEM, MENSTRUAL PROBLEMS, MENOPAUSE, ETC... AND DOES IT ALL IN A LOVELY WAY, MAKING YOU WANT TO ENJOY EVERY EXPERIENCE. I FEEL ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND ALIVE WITH THIS BOOK.

This Book Chose Me
Every time I walked to and from work, this book's cover would catch my eye from the store window. Curiousity finally won out and I picked up a copy. I am so glad I did. It's amazing! I've tried so many other forms of Yoga, I can't believe it took me this long to get to Kundalini. This book is written from two perspectives; one from a Western doctors' and one from an Eastern Yoga teachers'. It is a really great combination. Together, they do an excellent job of specifically explaining Kundalini Yoga's many benefits to Women. It is detailed, but easy to understand. The energy and exercise sets are extremely rejuvenating and there is a spiritual component that I have reached a stage to be able to really appreciate. There is a ton of useful information here and I have just scratched the surface. I couldn't reccommend it more enthusiastically.

More than a book about yoga
This book is not your average book about yoga for women, but one that celebrates all aspects of a woman's life cycle. The strength of the book is the collaboration with Dr. Seibel, showing the relationship between the yogic concepts and what we know about the body through modern science. The book is beautiful, with clear instructions and photographs. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in coming to a better understanding of their femininity and celebrating their womanhood.

The Life Cycle Library for young people
I am looking for any newer copies of these books. They were given to me at 11yrs. old and I still have them. I have the third print (1979).

Great!
If this is the same Life Cycle Library I remember from my childhood, this is wonderful stuff. Although Mom explained a lot whenever we asked, the books were a great reference source when we were too shy to ask Mom. Now that I'm a mother, I want to find the same for my children.

The Best
My mother gave me this set of books when I was 11 yrs. old at the time I didn't want to read them, but I'm glad I did. I now have an 8 yr old who is asking questions. I don't want to give her the wrong information, but I don't know how to word it. Our copy of the set is gone, I just want to replace it. I would love to find a copy now.

The Bible of Transit Interpretation
This book is a must for your astrological reference library. Written by the world's greatest living astrologer, Robert Hand, and Charles A. Jayne, it is an invaluable "cookbook" of transit interpretation for the budding professional astrologer-to-be. As a professional astrologer myself, an astrology teacher and a contemporary of Hand's, I would venture to say from my own personal experience, that virtually every professional astrologer in the past two decades has cut their teeth on this book. Hand is learned, profound, and sometimes downright uncanny in his interpretations. As I recall, he wrote this book in collaboration with Jayne, while Saturn was transitting his third house. This transit would be a classic for giving someone the discipline it takes to write something as tedious yet invaluable, as this book. It IS the Bible of transit interpretation.

If you only buy one transit book, this is the one
I bought this book years ago in hardcover. I'm happy to say that I had the foresight to cover it with plastic since I refer to this book more than any other astrology book that I own and now, more than 20 years later, my copy is still in good condition. I have an entire shelf filled with astrology books, probably in the area 400+ books. I've been an astrologer for over 30 years and my highest recommendation goes to Planets in Transits. In 1980 I had the opportunity to hear Robert Hand at an astrology conference. He talked about how he wrote Planets in Transit and he said that at the time of the writing, he had a transit of Neptune going over his Sun. He jokingly said, "I don't even remember writing this book." Surely, with Neptune transiting over his Sun, he was blessedly inspired. For all new and intermediate students, this is the one to have on your shelf.

Robert Hand, the finest astrologer of all times!
I wish I had put some kind of protection on my Transits by Hand. I did not buy the hardback and usage of the paperback over the years by me and my daughter has managed to deteriorate the 2 or 3 copies I've had to reorder! I always read other books about transiting planets and their influence, but for the final touch I always resort to the master himself, Robert Hand. I was lucky enough to hear a few of his tapes and he is absolutely fascinating to listen to; has a delightful sense of humor (Sagittarius influence), is a supreme story-teller, which makes it impossible not to learn as you listen. A lot of hard work must have gone into this work. If anyone is to break the barriers between astrology and scientific worlds, Hand would be the one to lead the onslaught! No astrologer or anyone learning astrology could do without this book.

LOVE IT!!!
I absolutely adore this book! It is soooooo well written! Its pictures are absolutely beautiful! This book is a must for anyone with children! It is just that good! You should buy this book right away! I PROMISE that you will LOVE it too!

Dust in the wind.
A treat for both child and adult nighttime-tucker-in-person. The edition in our home came with seed packets and plastic trowel for hands on gardening by my own "Tiny Seed" when she was 5.

Bloom where you're planted...and hope for kind soil.--Laurel825

The Tiny Seed
This is a very good book. I think that this is a very inspiring story to people who might think they are too small and won't amount to anything. This is not true in this case, it just takes a little longer to develop. The others develop quckly, and they end up ending quickly to. When he keeps going on, and never really gives up. He sure thinks about giving up a lot but never really does. In the end it will work out better for the person who has to try hard to get through everything, something bad is bound to happen to you. When you tr and never give up, you will succeed. You will become bigger and better than anyone who got an east way through life.
Because you had to go through so much on your journey, when everyone else had it easy, when they have to strugge to get through things, you will get to sit back and relax.
And this story demonstrates that just because you are small you can't grow bigger or can't do things. ...

Barbarians to Bureaucrats Corporate Life Cycle Strategies
Excellent book. With so many "here's what's wrong with your company" books available, this is one of the best. Not only does the author suggest what's wrong...i.e., which part of the life cycle is your company in, he tells you how to do something about it.

If I'd only been able to read just one book, I am glad I choose this one.

Making sense of corporate growth
It's not necessarily that as a company grows from the garage into the boardroom that bad things happen . . . it's that some things are inevitable and are a function of growth.

This book sumarizes the multiple facets involved in such growth and allows the reader to compare the growth cycle of companies at varying stages. It's impact on people, org behavior, culture, awareness and other areas that the "garage shop" does not need to consider at early stages. It's a key read and assessment as companies find themselves in transition from a heavily entrepreneurial spirit to a more entrenched corporate being and notes many of the patterns such growth requires. Read between the lines and you may find companies who are currently faltering because of a lack of transition mindset to allow them to sustain managed growth or the new "size." Overall, it's a great academic read.

Help in understanding declining organizations
By comparing the lifecycles of corporations to those of civilizations, this book helps to explain how all sorts of organizations, not just corporations, can become "sick" through bureaucracy and poor leadership. This book helped me to understand why there is so much institutional opposition to correcting even localized corruption and dissolution in a large, bureaucratic GOVERNMENT institution. It helped save my sanity. I with the author would write a similar book dealing with governmental organizations.

Another book which may help if you are trying to "fight city hall" is Stanley Milgram's Obedience to Authority.

Pagan Rites of Passage
Published in Paperback by Llewellyn Publications (April, 1998)
Authors: Pauline Campanelli, Dan Campaneli, and Dan Campanelli
Amazon base price: $14.95
Used price: $30.58
Being brought up in a time when old ways are often forgotten, 20th-century pagans can find themselves at a loss for traditional ceremonies to celebrate the times in life that should be marked with great care. Pagan Rites of Passage fills this void with a collection of celebratory rites from varying cultures as far apart in time and space as the ancient Egyptians are from the Bulgarians. The breadth of coverage makes this a suitable book for most any tradition, group, or solitary practitioner. The rites discussed commemorate important moments on the wheel of life from birth through death and include ceremonies for important events such as initiation into a coven or the handfasting of two people embarking on a life together. Pagans who want to proudly mark their lives in accordance with their ancient heritages will find that Pagan Rites of Passage furnishes the vital traditional framework on which to construct the perfect celebration. --Brian Patterson

Wonderful Ideas for Pagan Rituals
The Campanellis books are always a treat. Not only is this book cocked full of ideas for Pagan rites of passages; it is full of lore and history as well. Far from the "fluff" bunny books on Pagan topics, this book is useful and down to earth. I adore the Campanellies poetic gentle style of writing, and the pencil drawings are lovely. There are ritual ideas for the coven or for a solitary witch. All useful Pagan libraries should have a copy of this book.

Interesting, informative - and beautiful.
5 years ago, I picked up this book in a bookstore, and was entranced by a way of life that celebrates the seasons of life just as it does the seasons of the year.

This book relates the simple folk customs that have been performed all over the world for different turning points of life, as well as more contemporary Pagan practices, and suggestions from the authors. Eight turning points have been chosen, which have been subtly associated with the 8 seasonal festivals (although they may not occur in this order in your life :) ).

- Birth (Yule)
- Coming of Age (Imbolg)
- Initiation (Ostara)
- Handfasting (Beltane)
- Midlife (Litha)
- Priesthood (Lughnasa)
- Elderhood (Mabon)
- Death (Samhain)

For a single book, it has an amazing range of content, with various tidbits from and about the practices of ancient cultures, and the whys of many customs.
Some examples of variety of content:
From the birth chapter - egyptian charms for both before and during the birth, an italian charm for protection of the baby, excellent suggestions for magickal gift-giving (useful for us non-parents out there!), and baby naming.

An aside -
I was drawn to this book 5 years ago - it was the first* book I read on Paganism - and in retrospect it is still one of a very few books that could have opened me up to the Pagan path.
Although the 'How to' books are very useful, this provided me the initial 'Why to'. A way of life which celebrates, and is never very far from, the sacred.
And, as far as the 'How to' goes, the single chapter on Initiation was more useful than many Pagan/Wicca 101 books I've read (although that also says alot about some of those 101 books...)
It was an overview to be sure, but like the rest of the chapters, it has some really good useful information and it was a good base to start from, with things such as:
A "year and a day" of study Dedication, suggestions as to skills to learn, the why's of keeping a Book of Shadows and Magickal Journal as well as a suggested layout & a consecration ritual, explanations and mythology behind the different tools, magickal names, etc etc etc.

If you are looking for a book about any of the Rites of Passage covered in this book - this really is an excellent resource.

A possible improvement to the book for future editions would be an index, as if you are like me, you will probably be referencing it often.

-- Additional Info --
This IS the same book as "Rites of Passage : The Pagan Wheel of Life" - with a new cover.

Pauline and Dan Campanelli are both artists, you may have seen some of their prints around!

Amazing Visuals
A wonderful, graphic book about the circle of life. Why are kids so fascinated by pumpkins? Take a look at this visually intense book and see why. The photographs are definitely the feature here, but the text is not bad either, and keeps it at just about the right pace for a 3-5 year old audience.

Buy this book!
I bought this book for my 2yr old and he loves it! My 4yr old loves it too. It does a great job teaching kids the cycle of life. The photos are wonderful and the story is simple enough to keep little ones interested, yet gives a great explanation about the circle of life.

wonderful!
I love this book. The photos are great! It has quickly become one of my daughter's favorites!

Wow
Whenever I want a different approach or perspective on astrology, I read Stephen Arroyo. His in-depth knowledge and lecture style makes it easy to extract and apply what he has to say. It's like you're right there in front of him and the whiteboard. :o)

Outstanding!
I saw this in the Astrology Shop in London, after perusing about a half dozen other synastry titles and indeed, the shop owners highly recommended this over any other one. This one clearly stood out. It is an awesome read. Pick this one up. It's so in depth and accurate. Stephen is an excellent writer.

The best book on Synasrty
This is from my point of view on of the best Synasrty books ever published. It is of course the work of Stephen Arroyo, from my point of view, the best living humanistic astrologer.

Suitable for beginners , it is also a book that more advanced astrololger will enjoy. A part from the usual descriptions of mars and venus placements and general astrological compatibility comments, Arroyo makes a vast number of deep and interesting observations that are much more subtle in nature and that make this book a real gem. For example, he looks in depth at the ability for a person to engage in a relationship at all, from the individual chart. He sees this as the first port of call of the astrologer. Can this individual, with this chart, have the ability for intimacy, committment, sexuality, etc that will allow for a successful relationship to occur?

Arroyo looks at the aspects between charts, the elemental compatibility, at the Sun/Moon aspetcts and aspects with the outer planets as well as the nature of transits in synastry. Much of the book is taken from live lectures and there is such a rich exchange of questions and answers that deepen the material as well as bringing it to life with examples from his practice and from the lives of the participants. Excellent fun...

One of the things that I really enjoyed was the case study example he examines towards the end of the book. He explains step by step how he approached this case and i learnt so much from this example. I adopted his way of working as part of my relationship astrology and I have been enriched so much by the observation this great living master makes in this book. I just wish i could have been one of those lucky students in the audience!

What is Death?: A Scientist Looks at the Cycle of Life

Inspirational and Illuminating Book
Interestingly, I found this book to be inspirational. Even though the book flies in the face of religion, it does have a certain spirituality about it. For example, one of the book's messages concerns living in the "present". I.e. being present in our world right now and experiencing life to its fullest. The author even includes a beautiful poem by William Blake to bring the point home.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the science including the explanation of programmed cell death and basic biology which was all new to me. In addition, the psychological perspective was interesting as well. Here Mr Volk does a nice job explaining "terror management" and the primal clash.

The book really whetted my appetite for these and other topics. Luckily Volk also includes a nice bibliography for further study.

A scientist bravely confronts mortality
In an era when religion's malignancy is becoming increasingly apparent, we urgently need to be shown that spirituality is quite compatible with a rational, scientific, areligious worldview. This task has been taken on by some very good books recently, notably "The Problem of the Soul" by the philosopher Owen Flanagan and "The Sacred Depths of Nature" by the biologist Ursula Goodenough. Another excellent addition to this genre is "What Is Death?" by the biologist Tyler Volk. He begins his narrative on a personal note, describing how a near-death experience left him anxiously pondering his mortality. We then follow him as he explores death from many different perspectives-genetic, neurological, ecological, cultural-and eventually arrives at a better understanding of how vital death is to life. Particularly fascinating is Volk's discussion of recent research showing how death influences our thoughts and behavior even when we are not consciously thinking about it, often by making us cling more tightly to our beliefs. These findings obviously have tremendous relevance for understanding post-9/11 events. "What Is Death?" has not entirely dissolved my fear of mortality; I don't think any book could do that. But after reading it, I felt more sympathy with the lines that end Robinson Jeffers's great poem "Night": "A few centuries/Gone by, was none dared not to people/The darkness beyond the stars with harps and habitations./But now, dear is the truth. Life is grown sweeter and lonelier,/And death is no evil."

Important to individuals and to the human species
Although beautifully written, "What is Death?" may be a challenging read for some because Tyler asks us to confront our mortality. The book is worth every second you spend with it.

Tyler presents information which is powerful and important to us as individuals. Equally important in this time when we are all confronted with the causes and effects of terrorism, Tyler presents important research about what all human beings do when confronted with mortality--which includes defending our worldviews more fiercely...
