One night young Rosalinda wakes up to a "Wsss--shhh--snap!" outside. She slips out of bed and peers out the front door into the darkness. Way back by the lemon tree, something is moving. It's a man stuffing lemons, her very own lemons, into a cloth sack! To make matters worse, by the end of the week her lemon tree is very sick. As she wanders through the Mexican countryside seeking tree-healing advice, she sees the mysterious Night Man at the mercado--and he is selling her beautiful limones! She summons the help of La Anciana, a wise old woman with gentle eyes, and it is finally she who provides a creative solution. That night, Rosalinda sleeps under her lemon tree, and as she slumbers, "Her tree glowed golden in the night, dripping with lemons as big and round as baby moons." Her tree is magically cured! The next day she hands out the amazingly fat lemons, one by one, giving the very last lemon to the Night Man at the mercado. "Siembra las semillas. Plant the seeds," she tells him as he tilts his head towards his hungry family. "For you and for them." He agrees to do as she says, and Rosalinda's heart is "as full as a lemon moon." This simple tale of human compassion will appeal to young children on many levels. They'll be alarmed about the thief, concerned about the sick tree that makes Rosalinda so sad, relieved to see the tree in full fruit, and happy to see how kind and generous Rosalinda is in the end. Twin four-year-olds love it -- so will your kids
I have been reading "Under The Lemon Moon" to four-year-old twins before bed every night this week. When we read, they become entranced by the story. They also enjoy searching for the characters in the beautiful illustrations. There are many lessons to be learned from this story, including forgiveness. I highly recommend this book!

A charming tale heartwarming for both child and parent
This engaging book is a wonderful tool to help young children gain brief insight into Mexican culture. With basic Spanish included in a glossary, reading Under the Lemon Moon to your children may be the perfect way to stimulate interest in and discussion of foreign language. Perhaps more significant than exposure to other cultures, this entertaining tale teaches initiative, principles, and respect. The harmonious blend of captivating artwork and thoughtful plot make this story a must for all children over the age of three.

Perfect partnership in this author and illustrator.
AFter hearing "Under the Lemon Moon" read aloud to a group of 15 kindergarten students, I knew my original assessment was correct - kids will love this story! The illustrations so enhance the author's tale that it is hard to imagine one without the other. The glossary is vital, and helped the children recognize the Spanish words in context. The librarian/reader fielded such comments as: "That girl is really nice",and "the old man shouldn't have stolen the lemons, but he wasn't bad". Then they discussed how many of the class liked to eat lemons without sugar. Several asked if they could check the book out - always the clincher!

A rising star.
I was managing editor for this project. The story is interesting and the suspense is well handled. It is well written. In my opinion, J L Peters is a rising star in the literary world. This is what we came up with for the book jacket:

When a young reporter sat down to interview Industrial Tycoon Danny Dowd he didn't know what to expect. He had known Danny for years and had enjoyed his confidence and trust. He had no idea how this interview would turn out. It certainly couldn't hurt his career as a writer.
The wealthy bachelor took out an old package of lemon flavored cigarettes, lit one, as he had done every Valentine's Day for the past eighteen years. He took several puffs and then snuffed the cigarette out in the ashtray.
"That's the last of them," he said, "you can't get them any more, not since early 1975."
He leaned back, suggested that the reporter set up the chessboard and he would tell him the story behind the cigarettes. He said the conversation would be taped and the reporter would get the tape at the end of the session. There would be no questions allowed.
This is how we are introduced to the story of Danny Dowd, a tale of joy and sadness, of love, tomfoolery and tragedy. It is built around the lives of two young people who meet in college and immediately fall in love.
The path they follow is not easy. They are constantly confronted with problems that challenge their love for each other. This is a story of gripping suspense that involves sex, fraternity and sorority life, a life-threatening disease
and a struggle with families that disapprove of the relationship.
This is a hard book to put down, based on a true account. You'll be torn between chuckles, tears and memories as you follow this fascinating tale.
Enjoy,
W. Olchesky

What a KICK!
I laughed, I cried, then I laughed at myself for crying. This is a well-told and interesting story. It's nothing less than AWESOME!

An Awesome Read
I felt 30 years younger, like I was back in college in 1974!

Very readable book!
This book does a great job of explaining the definintions of "lemons" and how to go about documenting what you need if you have a lemon. It also answers many common questions that people have in eary to understand terms.

The book contains several appendixes which are very helpful including all state and federal laws related to lemons, a sample letter to send the car manufacturer if you believe you have a lemon.

The book also gives tips on selecting an attorney to represent you (they should do it at no fee since they will be reimbursed by the car manufacturer if you win), pulling together documentation, etc. The author also makes it clear that it is the manufacturer and not the dealer who is responsible for handling lemons under the law.

I highly recommend this book.

Buy it before you buy a car
I am grateful a friend of mine recommended this book to me before I bought my new XTerra. Whew, it's thorough and gives you good ammunition before you go into battle with a car dealer.

BUY IT!

You can thank me later.

Joey

The Lemon Law Bible
If you are planning to buy a car, you should buy this book first. Written in plain, understandable English, and packed full of information not only about what to do if your car turns out to be a lemon, but also how to avoid buying a lemon in the first place, Steve Lehto's book is a much-needed, non-technical guide to automobile law. Lehto provides the relevant information in the clearest possible manner, on legal terms, on the process of repair and replacement of a lemon, on the "tricks" many unscrupulous dealers use to avoid responsibility, on "Lemon Laws Around the Nation" - on every aspect of automobile law you need to know to become an empowered consumer, and take control of the situation. The extensive appendices, such as a "Sample Last Chance Letter," and "Internet Resources," are especially useful. Highly recommended!

Fascinating Look at Variational Methods and Applications
For a third or fourth year student in physics this short book, Perfect Form, would be near perfect as either a short overview of variational methods, or as a supplementary text for an advanced classical physics course.

I have occasionally encountered variational methods, but until reading Perfect Form I had not appreciated the significance and scope and even fascination of this topic. In a little more than one hundred pages Dr. Don Lemons does a credible job of introducing a wide range of physics problems amenable to variational methods.

He begins with optics and Fermat's Principle of Least Time and thereby motivates the derivation of the Euler-Lagrange equation. In later chapters he examines the principle of least potential energy, Lagrange multipliers, the principle of least action, and Hamilton's principle, in both a restricted and more general form. The supplementary problems at the end of each chapter are few in number, but are carefully defined and are more like tutorials than standalone problems.

In my experience textbooks dedicated to this topic - like Calculus of Variations by Robert Weinstock and Introduction to the Calculus of Variations by Hans Sagan - are difficult and require considerable mathematical maturity. Other texts - like Advanced Calculus of Several Variables (C. H. Edwards) and Advanced Mathematical Methods for Engineering and Science Students (Stephenson and Radmore) and Mathematics Applied to Continuum Mechanics (L. A. Segel) - often relegate this subject to a single (and often final) chapter.

Most undergraduates are unlikely to have time for a formal course in calculus of variations. With this book Don Lemons has convinced me that this topic is too important and too interesting to ignore. I recommend that you acquire a copy of Perfect Form for self-study or as supplementary text.

A nice short readable introduction
I just took an independent study in the calculus of variations out of Gelfand's classic text. I covered the first four chapters which is a nice introduction. However the text is pretty technical and so Perfect Form (PF) was a great companion. Its laid back, accessible to a sophomore physics student and fine for self study. It has a range of physical problems from calculations to nice little problems to think about.

Moreover, it motivates the material well. This is one of those books that keeps driving home a few, just a few points and avoids too many topics. For instance, I was never knew why the lagrangian should be the difference of kinetic and potential energies, this book will motivate this form.

Finally, its a realistic book. I found no great effort in reading the entire book and working about 3/4 of the problems (some I just didn't find interesting) on my own in a busy semester. This is just a fun little book that shows you some variational methods!

Very readable introduction to calculus of variations.
This is an engaging book, written on a fairly basic level. Any junior with some calculus should be able to handle it. The author has done a great job of introducing the calculus of variations, Lagrange multipliers, etc, and applying them to clear examples from physics (Fermat's principle, Lagrangians and Hamiltonians). I only wish he had expanded the topics somewhat to introduce a few more topics to whet the appetite, such as phase spaces, Liouville's theorem, Noether's theorem.

Touching
This is a storie to remember! Makes you feel like your part of the action, your scared when the characters are scared, you cry when the charicters cry! It is a awsome book

Absolutely a MUST HAVE "heart-wrenching" Book!
This book is utterly captivating! The author literally pulls you into her life and heart-felt feelings as soon as you start reading it. She shares her experiences, her love of husband and family, as well as her intermost thoughts at the most perilous times of her life. She shows complete unselfishness in her ability to lead her family through all the ups and downs of ill health, surgery, death and heartache; while still trusting the lord with upmost faith. This book is a must have book! I would recommend this to all adults and children alike, as it provides so much strength and courage for all of us to use now, or to hold it into our hearts to use later on if we need it. This book would be great in our school libraries to build great character traits for our children and grandchildren.

Everyone should own this book
This book is amazing. It makes you really look at your life and understand what is important. It is not money or how big your house is or even what car you drive, it is family. The love, hope and suport you get from people you love and that love you. My 9 year old daughter did a book report on this book and now the teacher is reading it and loving it. If you ever have a day when nothing is going right just read a chapter or two of this book and everything wont seem to bad.

this is an excellent book
I was looking for an introduction on stochastic systems when
I found by chance this book. It was exactly what I was looking for. This is an excellent introduction to that subject. I enjoyed reading
the text and doing the exercises (I did them all, just for the
fun of it). I also bought most of the books the author gives as references, and I must say, those books are also excellent. If you buy this book, you are not going to have regrets. Congratulations to the author!

It is the perfect introduction for a Physicist
This book is a perfect introduction to Stochastic Process for Physicists. However it is only an introduction. Our friends Economists are much ahead of us Physicists in the use of stochastic process . So for example the book do not explain ITO calculus and therefore the reader never knows that the stochastic differential equation is just symbolic. That the integrals involving paths do not exist and have to be interpreted like ITO or Stratonovich. I recomend another book like the one by Thomas Mikoshch or the one by Fima Klebaner for further studies

Great gift for favorite teacher
We bought this book for my daughter's first grade teacher several years ago as a rememberance of the year. We recently heard from her teacher, and she told us how special that book was and how she thought of my daughter each time she read it (we have moved away from the town). We bought a jar and filled it with lemon drops to go along with the book. It's a lovely story.

Teachers - use this book to connect math and literature.
Lemon Drop Jar is a good lead-in to a math estimation or division lesson. Begin by reading The Lemon Drop Jar (be sure to share the pictures and discuss it.) Ask if the children have ever tasted lemon drops? Would they like to? K-4 Show the class a candy jar half full of lemon drops. Ask them to estimate how many lemon drops they think are in the jar. Actually count (Children can suggest easier ways to count - perhaps by 10's) Record the number of lemon drops in the jar. Then show a second identical candy jar full of lemon drops. Ask the class to estimate how many lemon drops they think are in the full jar. Go back to the half full jar and remind the children of how many lemon drops there are in that jar. Then add 10 more. Ask if the children would like to change their estimates? Continue adding lemon drops 10 at a time and tallying the new total on the board. Stop once in awhile to allow children to change their estimates. Discuss whether or not their estimates are close. Determine how many lemon drops it took to fill the jar and how many are in each jar. When everyone agrees on the amount, K- 2 should stop here and the teacher can then share the lemon drops with the students. To extend this activity for 3rd & 4th graders ask the class to work in partners and determine how many lemon drops each child will get if they are shared equally. They should each show their thinking on paper and hand it in. Remind them to show their thinking using words, pictures and numbers. You may wish to allow them to use manipulatives. When everyone agrees on the number that each child should receive is equally dividied, share them with the children.

This is an AMAZING play!
the characters are all very fractured and dysfunctional, but L. Wilson writes in such a way that the audience can identify with them, even if it's just a tiny bit. this is an awesome play!

Most Amazing Play Ever
This is the most amazing play I have ever had the opportunity to read and work with. It follows the character of Alan over about a 6 month period in his life where more happens to him than happens to most people in a lifetime. He learns that his relationship with his father will never be what he wants and these experiences help to shape his future, which is where he is telling the story from. This is basically an autobiography and has some of the most amazing visual images. It is comedy and tragedy all rolled into an amazing piece.

The best book on used car models
I first discovered Mr Edmundston's books fifteen years ago in Canadian bookstores. Since then, I have consulted them prior to making any car purchases.

The Lemon-aid Guides are a lot different than most similar books on the market. They review each model very critically listing the positives and the negatives. What I have found to be remarkable is the accuracy of the reviews. You can tell that the reviewer has actually driven the vehicle.

Also, unlike most guides, Lemon-aid identifies most of the "hidden warranties" of the auto manufacturing - the problems that will only be resolved by aggressive complaining to the manufacturer.

A must read.

Great
I could of saved over 20.000 bucks over the last ten years in car repairs if i knew what i know now.

This book is hilarious
"Spiritual Lemons" is a discussion on eight Bible stories featuring women and deep, often, "unacceptable" emotions, such as jealousy, anger and shame. Rev. Brakeman's writing is incisive, interesting, and, often, incredibly funny. What a wonderful resource for women (and men!) who might think that to be Christian is to be condemned to eternal niceness. A thought-provoking and reassuring book, with the very reassuring underlying message that God can work even through those parts of ourselves that we do not like.

Thought-provoking, witty, and challenging!
Lyn Brakeman's book explores 8 biblical stories that revolve around women who struggle with strong emotional feelings including anger, envy, and shame. By using religious imagination the author helps to reveal theological truths about the nature of God and God's relationship to us. Some chapters are especially powerful in naming experiences that cause hurt and pain in our lives. Readers are prompted to review how they have responded to and incorporated the experience into their own lives.

I used this book to lead a weekly discussion group of women in my parish. It's style and content challenged a few of the more conservative women who attended, but more than anything the stories helped to bond the women together in faith. God is present in these stories, and they helped us find meaning.

The book contains suggestions for both personal prayer and reflection which help the reader get to the heart of the story, as well as suggestions for prayer rituals to use with a group. The rituals were a lovely part of our time together and helped to bring closure to each evening.

I would highly recommend this book, especially for small group discussions.
