I purchased the 9th edition of this book and it helped me tremendously in filing bankruptcy on my own late last year. This book, coupled with an online bankruptcy service, was all I needed in filing bankrupcy on my own. If you don't comfortable filing out the forms yourself, I highly recommend finding a legal form service or a non-profit legal aid service to help you. Some of these services even will even to do it for free or on a sliding scale depending on your income. One of the best days of my life was the day I filed. No more harassing letters or phone calls. This book saved me from incurring more debt by avoiding attorney fees. (Why pay money you don't have for something that you can do yourself?)
Its straight forward and easily understandable content encouraged me to be confident in filing my own Ch. 7 paperwork. The provided examples came in handy to be able to compare to. Every chapter and appendix, including the tear out forms, are worth their weight in gold. Covers all aspects of before, during, and after filing for bankruptcy.

Hi, me again. I filed chapter 13 and converted on over to 7. THis was a very good book as well. Had the conversion form in it. VEry handy. THis one had all the legal forms I could think of to use, great instructions. Actual examples on how to fill them out. questionnaires, and check list. I had all my bases covered here. It is very informative on the automatic stay. Where creditors, can not mess with you anymore. One called so much, they woke up the baby.:( Made me mad. )With these nolo books, I also learned how to file a complaint against these creditors. It really help with eliminating some of the old debts. We really needed to seek this relief. I was able to restart, my economic life again with this relief. It happens to the best of us. Don't be embrassed. THe excemptions were very informational and iron clad true. THey were listed in the back of the book. I used these for my state. I totally trusted what was in the NOLO books. They did me proud. THerefore I was able to keep what I had listed under what exemptions nolo had listed on the list under federal and state exemptions. I guess I was able to totally depend on this book start to finish. I didnot have to go anywhere else, or seek any other forms. It was like one stop shopping. I must say, a judge commented on my organizational skills and asked where I learned to do this, and my work was as good as what has come out of some attorneys office. I said, I thank nolo for this. I happened to have the book with me as a referece. I can depend on NOLO books for what ever comes up, civil. The book gave me the self esteem I needed to actually pull this representing my self off. It was not that bad. Actually it was a challenge. I am now on the high road to financial recovery. Thanks to NOLO press. By the way, doing this on your own is alot cheaper than hiring a attorney. It save me bunches of money. Difference between this one and others, don't even bother with other books. I think the difference with this one, is nolos reputation. I can count on when I buy their books it gets me thru what ever jam, I have encounterd. I have represented myself on several occasions by using nolo books, for self help. Even if the book is a later edition, still iron clad, as far as forms go. I used a 4th editions forms. I had purchased this one a while back before I purchased this one. I tell you I was the envy of my buddy pals. ONe buddy paid tons of money to a local high power attorny, and I still think I came out better. Just really think it thru, on represnting your self. You can do it with this book. THis one also fits anywhere, even one time I threw it in the glove box, cause I had like errands to run, once, it was shoved into the center consol of my truck, even had green beans, from the baby spilled on this one a time or two. Still was in great shape. What is it about NOLO books that take a licking and come out looking great. MUst be the way they are made. Tuff durable. Easy to understand. I didnot feel like a idiot using this book. I also didnot have to ask outside questions.

This book is possibly the most accesible law book that I have ever come upon. It is not only appealing to those in the legal profession, but to those who are not. Professor Gross's insights and conclusions are refreshing to read in the face of our Nations ubsession with casting the debtor as a lazy peron who overlooked his or her duties. I recently saw Professor Gross on CNN and after hearing her speak, I immediatly went and picked up a copy for myself. I would solemly recommend this book to anyone interested or involved in the bankruptcy system.

Professor Gross's book is truly spectacular. Not only is it appealing to members of the legal profession, but it is also an immeasurable aid to those who are not. Professor Gross's conclusions are well thought out and extremely well articulated. I recently saw her on CNN, and I would reccomend that anyone who is in debt and considering bankruptcy purchase this book.

This is really a must have. I handled my own chapter 13, start to finish with this one. Even handled the emergency filing to get mean ole nasty pasty creditors that were harassing me intentionally off my case. I was even able to file a complaint with them thru the bankruptcy courts. This book references this, and I called the clerks office, and checked out web sites, and this book gave me the confidence, to file a complaint against these creditors. The interderagatorys are fanstasic. THese really helped me out, at my creditors meetings. I was able to even able to pursue a wage garnishment out of my soon to b X's pay check. This was the only way I was going to keep my stuff. I really enjoyed I must say representing my self. It is really not that hard, and more of u folks out there need to try it. They really don't chew ya up and spit ya out like everyone believes. It was not that stress ful, after everything was filed. Actually, It was nice to bask in the quiteness of the emeregency filing. My phone quit ringing. It was soooo nice. This one belongs rite up there with my bible. It was a thrill I must say to stand in line to file my paper work, schedules, and yes, I even filed a motion.! It was great standing there next to some of my towns high power bankruptcy attorneys. ONly thing, I have to say, when attorneys, start offering free advise, have a pen ready to write. I also learned be nice as pie to the clerks. They are so busy, and swamped with work. U will be glad you had patience. Patience is a virtue on this one as far as filings go. THe creditors meetings went well, I even drafted my own propsals of what I wanted, to happend. I even learned how to contest the amount of my truck, and did so, and requested the interest rate be dropped. I got just what I wanted. It actually was not as a terrible as we are taught in society to think. Oh my she/he file bankruptcy. It was not that bad, and also the bankruptcy court I went to, had a class on how to balance your budget, and it was very informational. Dom't feel bad if you have to do this someday. It happens to the bestest of us. IF you do this is definitely the book you wanna seek. I have compared up to some of the competetions, and I felt this one was the easy one to use. Plainest english. Simplest terms. I didnot feel intimidated at all by this book. This book covered all the bases, and then some. Others books I feel were not as complete as this one was. I researched books and sat down and looked thru them at my local book store. THis one won hands down. I must say, it is flexible, easy to tote with you, easy to put in babys bag, and easy to tote on bike with grocerys, and easy to clean up. I spilled coffee on mine... wipes up great. This book also showed me how to MOtions and I feel like I can now do a motion for anything. Another great one for nolo.

Jack Williams is at his best. A must read for anyone interested in bankruptcy.

woa. i read this, and it is one of the best papers i have red on latin american law. rowat deserves serious props as does jose asigarraga. although this isn't a book most people would find entertaining, it gives a background as to the latin american insolvency systems.

This is a top-notch book by a pioneer in the field of bankruptcy law. It is a definite must have for any bankruptcy practitioner. Not only does Tabb clearly and effectively explain fundamental as well as esoteric bankruptcy principles, but he also provides excellent practical examples of the Bankruptcy Code in action. Hands down the best book I have seen on bankruptcy.
