Ask Your Pharmacist by Chavis et al.
This book provides a wealth of information on maintaining
general health. For instance, the author describes classic
allergic reactions to drugs, food and various environmental
factors. She explains how to control bad breath through
brushing, flossing, tongue scrapers and spearmint flavor.
The book continues by explaining the use of fiber to minimize
constipation. Dandruff may be controlled with fish oils and
flax oil. Excess gas may be managed with peppermint tea and lactaid. The authors explain how to control urinary tract
infections with Azocran tablets. Overall, the book provides
a wealth of information pertaining to maximizing personal
hygiene. It is a good purchase as a supplement to your personal
health and hygiene repertoire of books.

Great book! Good advice!
This is a great book for people who can't decide what to take for a stuffy nose, cough, constipation, headaches, etc. This book offers good recommendations for over the counter medications as well as alternative remedies for everyday ailments. I highly recommend this to anyone!

Useful and fun to read!
I started out looking up topics in this handy book by Lisa Chavis, and found myself reading page after page. Not only are there ideas and recommendations for the most common (and most aggravating) everyday health problems in here, but there is a refreshingly cheerful look at pharmacists, doctors and consumers as well. The authors never talks down to the reader and seems to anticipate the questions that come up in the reading. The Humor Pills are delightful additions to rather than distractions from the content. I learned some things and had a good time doing it!

Leading with My Chin
Published in Mass Market Paperback by HarperTorch (01 October, 1997)
Author: Jay Leno

So what do you expect from a celebrity autobiography? Tales of an impoverished childhood and an unappreciated early career? Angst-ridden revelation? In Jay Leno's take on the genre, tales have only one purpose--laughs. This is a book of jokey anecdotes and humorous stories marking the comedian's progress to the top. The persona of the young Leno is not so different and just as likable as the one appearing nightly on television. Whether it is his mother's advice, his teachers' complaints, or the awkward situations he finds himself in (for example, standing before an Orthodox Jewish audience who have been mistakenly led to expect a Yiddish storyteller) Leno always sees the funny side.

A good life story of a funny guy
I like that Jay wrote this book himself. It doesn't have any boring parts. I've read this thing a million times since I actually am an aspiring commedian. Even though he's a generation behind me, he was similar to me when he was my age. His first trys to be funny at school were cool to hear about, since I did similar stuff. I swear to god, when I was 13, a teacher wrote something similar his teacher wrote, "If Jay studied as hard as does being funny, he'd be a good comedian." The stories and troubles with his parents are easy to identify with as a kid. He also gives a long look into his life on the road, such as playing at a college with geeks who wanted to study and not hear a comedian. (A--holes!) The book also has some sentimental and dirty parts, making it interesting all around. It's all pretty humorous and it's like he's actually telling you the stories, the way it's written sounds like the way he'd say it, well it's cause he DID. A good read if you've got a sense of humor.

Entertaining, Sincere, Funny and Genuine!
Jay Leno has let us into his life thru this book. The good times, funny times, trying times and truly personal times. He's as entertaining on paper as he is in person! I have learned to like Jay Leno and enjoy his style of comedy. It took me a while, but this book actually put the finishing touches on my feelings. A really good book, full of fun, laughs, thoughfulness and honesty. Easy to read and most enjoyable. Get to know Jay

hillarious
im in the process of reading "leading with my chin" by jay leno, and so far i am astonished at how increadably funny it is! my teacher assigned us to read a biography or bibliography of our choice, and last minute i was in frantic search for a book. a friend of mine handed me the bio and told me, "read it. its funny, and it goes fast!" to my surprise, she was right. the book is a joy to read, even to those who dont like reading much *caugh* *caugh*. "leading with my chin" is no less than a 5 star book.

The Last Word on First Names : The Definitive A-Z Guide to the Best and Worst In Baby Names by America's Leading Experts

Authors: Linda Rosenkrantz and Pamela Redmond Satran
Amazon base price: $5.99
Used price: $0.49

Baby name experts Linda Rosenkrantz and Pamela Redmond Satran's The Last Word on First Names attempts to capture the best baby names of the '90s, with an emphasis on defining what's hip in baby names at this moment and why. While maintaining a focus on the up-to-the-minute popularity of particular names--Dolly is too cutesy for the postfeminist age, for example--the book doesn't skimp on the historical background of each name presented. For parents looking to find out how Richard has changed through the ages--once favored by kings, the name peaked in popularity in the '50s and now returns to favor--The Last Word on First Names is the baby name book to buy.

I can't believe this book
This book was a waste of money. The book never touches on Hindu or Middle Eastern names other than Jewish. It is very judgemental and seems to make fun of people. I would not ever recommend this book to anybody. It is so trendy it even has "seen on Oprah" on the cover. Save your money for a latte or something trendy that tastes good. Forget the trendy books, and please forget the trendy names!! Find one you like and your child will not be made fun of. I suggest trying to come up with nicknames for any name you choose. Remember Deloris!:)

I wish I found this one first!!!
I can't tell you how many baby name books I read before I found this. I didn't just want a list of names, I wanted help chosing, and this was the only book that was useful. It helped us avoid names about to be too popular and gave us interesting alternatives. Really, don't waste your money, buy this one first.

This is the only baby name book you need!
Unlike boring name books with tons of lists, this one actually picks the best and worst names out there and gives you the authors personal opinions of them. And they have excellent taste! If you can't bear the thought of naming your baby Ashley or Brandon, this is the book for you.

Who Killed Jonbenet Ramsey?: A Leading Forensic Expert Uncovers the Shocking Facts (Onyx True Crime, Je 871)

Collectible price: $3.99

TERRIBLE!
This is a terrible, terrible book. Steve Thomas, the "detective" who wrote this book, makes an idiot out of himself as he grasp at straws to blame JonBenet's mother for her murder. Thomas has no experience solving murders, and he was nothing more than a drug cop prior to the Ramsey case. He is a disgrace to police everywhere.

Solid
There are many books on the Ramsey case. I chose Wecht's because of his solid work on the Kennedy assasination, his outstanding experience as a medical examiner, and his reputation for hard-nosed independence. On the whole, I was not disappointed, though the book does not work well as an introduction to the case. As could be expected, Wecht concentrates on his specialty - what JonBenet's autopsy reveals about the crime. His findings in this regard are very emphatic, and are underscored by a refusal to speculate about the case as a whole. Those readers looking for revealing scenarios will be disappointed; the book sticks closely to the facts without indicting anyone, though the no nonsense conclusion states that the crime was almost certainly a family affair. Neither does the author dwell on the notorious infighting inside Boulder city government, nor the contaminated crime scene itself. For a book that concentrates on physical facts, this latter seems a curious omission, since the surroundings in which the body awas found should reveal a lot about the crime itself. I suppose the scene was too disturbed by the father's movements and inept police procedure to provide the type of scientific cerainty Wecht prefers. Anyway, I think those surroundings deserved more discussion than they got. On the whole, Wecht's book is not the last word on this fascinating case and genuine tragedy, but neither can it be ignored.

I've been accused over the years of having a morbid streak because of the true crime books I read. It's probably true. Still, I'm old enough to remember when true crime was solely the subject of pulp magazines with formula writing, whose provocative covers I would sneak when my mother wasn't looking. But a curious thing has happened to crime coverage in the last thirty-five years (starting with In Cold Blood). It's become not only a respectable literary genre for those who care, but a real source of insight for readers in general. Murder is no longer just murder. A well-researched and well-written true crime book can provide rare glimpse into how lives are lived, how communities are run, and ultimately, into what we as a society value. For example, in the Ramsey case, we glimpse: the tacky world of beauty contests among little girls hardly old enough to walk, the private lives and dark psychology of a millionaire family, an ineptly run Boulder justice system failing in its primary duty, and a media that would probably pay this crime no mind were the parents of average income. In short, murder has become a type of sociology, made meaningful by people who are names, not just numbers. For writer and reader alike, a well-done crime book is like a knife cutting through a community : layers of day-to-day life are suddenly exposed that would otherwise remain hidden. Such unrehearsed revelations can provide real insight. Maybe morbid psychology got me started as a boy, but as an adult, I don't apologize to anyone for my true crime library.

Extremely interestnig
I completely disagree with readers who've called this book "disappointing" and said that it shares "nothing new." Cyril Wecht's interpretation of the forensic report sheds light on motive, opportunity, and means. Charles Bosworth's writing is of a very high quality for true-crime books. The authors do an excellent job of providing the differing points of view in the case (police, DA's office, and the Ramsey family), but they don't shy away from educated speculation (which of course is what all of us who are so interested in the case are engaged in). I would recommend it to fellow Court TV junkies and those with an interest in true-crime stories.

The Market Makers: How Leading Companies Create and Win Markets
Published in Hardcover by DIANE Publishing Co (January, 1998)
Author: Daniel F. Spulber
Amazon base price: $25.00
Used price: $19.95
Average review score:

The Market Makers misses the mark
The author demonstrates his capability to explain basic concepts of economics and marketing, but certainly doesn't define a revolutionary new approach to business as alluded to on the inside front cover flap. We are introduced to new buzz words such as 'spatial abitage' although any reader looking for insight is bound has to be disappointed in the explanations and lack of substance. In addition, most charts and tables in the book must be filler because they appear childish. The only redeeming chapters are at the end when the author disusses various market strategies, but for a better and more complete discussion, dust off an old copy of 'Marketing Warfare."

Insightful!
Author and teacher Daniel Spulber offers insights that are becoming increasingly relevant as technological innovations make transactions between customers and businesses faster, cheaper and more important. The strategic framework he presents - that you should view companies as transaction facilitators, not as product makers or service providers - will force you to rethink your most fundamental beliefs about your business. We [...] recommend this book to managers, strategists and students of all branches of business who are looking for a fresh analysis of 21st-century competition.
