Easy to read
This book is very readable and gets some new thought processes working.

Good Advice
I purchased the e-book of "Heart of a Leader." The book is chock full of great tips for a variety of situations with the justification for each tip. It is an excellent reference for any supervisor or manager.

Easy Reader
Blanchard takes a "Chicken Soup" approach in this book, capturing the essence of the leadership parables told in his previous works in simple, concise summary format. This is a great reminder for those who have read the other works, or a great introduction for those who haven't. Either way, the essence of Blanchards' winning approach to working with, and getting things done through people is superbly presented.

Best guide to becoming a tech. lead I've read
Concrete advice about both how to assess where you are today, and what to do to become and be a technical leader. There are also some fun anecdotal pseudo-conversations that work as a nice interlude, and a great description of the tradeoffs between technical and personal strenths.

While a light read, I couldn't help coming away from this book feeling that it was longer than it needed to be -- the information density isn't terribly high. A few of the pseudo-graphs that appeared in the book also seemed to have mislabeled axes, though that may have been corrected in subsequent editions.

THE BOOK on Leadership
Jerry recently stopped giving the workshop on which this book
is based. I number him among my most valued friends. Our
friendship began in that workshop. If you take the approach to
leadership that this book explains you'll be the kind of leader
that almost anyone would willingly follow, and with good reason.
I'm still trying to assimilate the thousands of tasty bits of
wisdom it contains. Jerry already has. He's been there and back
again, and has buried many of the jewels he discovered on his
journey in this book. BUY IT.

Leadership for Everyone
I recommend this book to almost everyone I know. In addition to talking about management, Weinberg makes clear that anyone can lead, regardless of their official role. There are lessons in this book for everyone who works in a "knowledge" industry. And there are even lessons in the book that can help you be a better person overall.

Everyone should read this book, and you may want to own one, as there are passages that you will want to reference from time to time.

Faith Under Pressure: A Study of Biblical Leaders in Conflict

From Text to Pew
A unique contribution by an Old Testament scholar with a pastor's heart
who sincerely believes that the stories in Kings need to be studied as
well as preached because of their contemporary relevance. Readers will appreciate Moore's creative exegesis of the text and the practical
application for people living out their faith under pressure. An
extremely valuable book for scholar, pastor and layperson.

From Study to the Pulpit
Moore's treatment of the Davidic period is like I've never seen. A superb academic, he walks us through the Kings and Chronicles, interweaving the particular treatment of each historian. He makes sense of each as, "Kings focuses on the Mosaic coveneant while Chronicles focuses on the Davidic covenant." Like seeing the horizon through binoculars, Moore lines up each sight so as to bring the two into focus.

For the more precise reader, Moore does his scholarship well. For a preaching pastor wanting help on the text for application, Moore understands. As a scholar/pastor the tensions of leadership he plays out for us to use in the delivery of the message.

A great addition to Old Testament understanding of the Davidic period and a rich resource for those of us who week by week are charged with presenting the congregation with a witness of the Word.

A good book is a slow read.
Dr. Moore's deep delight in the text and context of the Bible are expressed in a uniquely personable way in his book, Faith Under Pressure. His careful scholarship is matched and energized through his personal engagement with the Biblical message, which demands more than a quick scan; panning through this book is a disservice to the author, and a loss to the reader. The work is one-third education, one-third explication, and one-third meditation.

Dr. Moore explores the story of Biblical leaders under various forms of pressure - what was their situation, what was their response? With his own strong insight, and inimicable sense of humor, Dr. Moore draws from a rich background of ministry experience to relate the text 'backward and forward,' to its historical past and to our postmodern present. Faith Under Pressure powerfully countermands the tendency of scholasticism to withdraw from a pastoral care approach.

The reader's understanding of the Bible story will be richly enhanced, and they will be directly challenged by Dr. Moore's reflections. This is not a book for beginners. The author assumes that readers will study the Biblical texts for themselves as they engage with his work, and an intentional reader will take the time to struggle with both writings. Faith Under Pressure is a 'must have' for serious students of the Bible. It is also a gift for ministers of a broad range of callings: preachers will find refreshment here; teachers will discover new insights; counselors will experience clarity.

Do not expect to finish this book quickly - do expect to return to it. Do expect that the time you invest in reading it will pay off in your own professional and personal growth.

Thee Book on Leadership Development
I teach leadership and leadership development both in the States and internationally and I can tell there is no better book on the subject. There are other books available, and they all are easier reads than this one but this is or will be the classic on the subject.

The book goes much further than explaining leadership it shows how every incident in your life went to form and fashion who you are. Take your time with this book and definitely do the chart work and you will recieve the peace of not only knowing who you are but that your past was all valuable and your future can be better understood.

Insightful Work - Must Read
I met Bobby Clinton during a difficult time of transition. Over a cup of coffee, after asking a few questions, he was able to perfectly describe what was going on in my life and outline a practical plan to make the experience most profitable. It was if he had been reading my mail for the past two years.

When I told him how amazed I was at his ability he outlined for me the research that gave birth to this book. He and his students at Fuller Theological Seminary had studied the lives of over 400 leaders. The patterns of emergence they discovered are the basis of this book.

The book is a must read for anyone who is interested in the topic of leadership and leadership development.

A Life Application Handbook!!
So far, this is my absolute favorite book on the subject of leadership development. After 16 years of teaching and applying leadership development principles, this seems to me the definitive work on how the process works. Reading it was tantamount to stepping back from a connect-the-dots picture and clearly seeing what the picture is going to be--it finally makes sense. I believe Clinton did a great job of communicating how every part of our lives ties together to fulfill God's divine destiny for us(Acts 13:36). This is a must read for every one who aspires to maximize their leadership potential.

Moses Man of the Mountain
Published in Textbook Binding by Chatham Bookseller (June, 1975)
Author: Zora Neale Hurston
Amazon base price: $9.50
Average review score:

A witty, accessible retelling of "what Africa sees in Moses"
In the introduction to this 1939 novel, Hurston says that Africans (and, by extension African Americans) revere Moses "not because of his beard nor because he brought the laws down from Sinai" but "because he had the power to go up the mountain and bring them down. . . . [W]ho can talk with God face to face? Who has the power to command God to go to a peak of mountain and there demand of Him laws with which to govern a nation? . . . That calls for power, and that is what Africa sees in Moses."

Hurston incorporates the African tradition into her retelling of the Exodus story, along with that tradition's humor, colloquialisms, wit, irreverence, and apocryphal embellishments. The result is probably her most accessible work, an undemanding read that still reflects a mirror on such issues as politics, slavery, and feminism. The novel is remarkably faithful to the original, but Hurston's Old Testaments heroes and their adversaries are fleshed out as lethargic, selfish, dithering, conniving, as well as joyous, loving, and (above all) human. Moses's brother Aaron and sister Miriam, for example, are depicted as much a hindrance to the movement as a help.

Moses himself is presented warts and all. As expected, he's the savior who leads a slave nation from captivity to the freedom of a Promised Land, the wise prophet who brings law and government to an unruly and divided people. Still, Hurston's Moses observes that "the first law of Nature is that everybody likes to receive things, but nobody likes to feel grateful. And the very next law is that people talk about tenderness and mercy, but they love force. If you feed a thousand people you are a nice man with suspicious motives. If you kill a thousand you a hero." And Moses does kill--not only Egyptian soldiers hot in pursuit, but 3,000 of his own people: defenseless, drunken revelers paying homage to a golden calf (Exodus 32:28), an unforgiving and ruthless act that never fails to jar modern sensibilities.

It's often a marvel when an author can take a well-known story and make it seem fresh. Cecil B. DeMille 1956 movie has heightened modern-day familiarity to the point of farce (although Hurston's original audience was certainly aware of DeMille's first film version, released in 1923). Nevertheless, Hurston manages to make this timeworn story new again for modern readers.

Brilliant examination of race, class, politics, conviction
This is a brilliant novel. Hurston retells the story of Moses through the lens of black history and of her own day; the reader can see Hitler in Pharoah, the ghettos of Europe and America in Goshen. The Hebrews of Hurston's tale are European Jews under National Socialism and American Blacks under slavery. Moses becomes in this context a figure of contemporary hope. His being suggests that it's possible for someone to lead those in need of leadership out of trouble and to change the world. (By the way, if you get a chance, take a look at J Kristeva's book "Revolution in Poetic Language.")

Hurston's novel is particularly relevent in today's world of spin politics and soundbites. To read this book is to better understand the news you're stuck with being fed.

Poetic & Topical
A poetic, topical book that puts a contemporary twist on historical and spiritual (and political) issues pertaining to human rights and human potential. Highly recommended. Readers young and old should also pick up Hurston's "Tell My Horse: Voodoo And Life In Haiti And Jamaica."

Defying the Iranian Revolution: From a Minister to the Shah to a Leader of Resistance
Published in Unknown Binding by (October, 2002)
Author: Manouchehr Ganji
Amazon base price: $54.95
Average review score:

1979 Revolution Exposed
Dr. Ganji provides an explication of the events leading to, during and following the 1979 revolution. The author adds extra zest to the theme of his work when he relays his personal account of the events. This helps to balance out all of the factual data and figures so meticulously researched and listed. The book presents an unbias chronology and is a must read for all; especially at times like these when terrorism has cast a shadow over the globe. Overall, the book covers a crutial event in contemporary Iranian History and is highly recommended for anyone interested in Middle East matters.

Fabulous book
This book has been by far the best book about Iran that I have read in recent years.I think it would be a great idea to use it as a text book.
I must say the ones supporting the tragedy of 79 may not like the book, since the author is talking about the truth and his own experinces.

Informative and Revealing
Defying the Iranian Revolution by Dr. Manouchehr Ganji is the probably the most informative and revealing account of the Iranian Revolution available. This book was truly a joy to read. Dr. Ganji's unbiased and knowledgeable account and analysis of the Iranian Revolution impacted me greatly. I was thinking about the book for weeks after I had read it. Defying the Iranian Revolution presents all of the aspects of the Iranian Revolution. It gives an honest and illuminating account of all the players, the buildup, the intentions, the consequences, and everything that went on behind the scenes during the years before and after '79. Dr. Ganji's great examination of the Iranian Revolution is complemented by his first-class inspection of Iran today. In addition, the author's personal stories and experiences make the book all the more interesting, courageous, and moving. I consider this book a must read for all Iranians, in order that they will truly appreciate the significance of the events in the recent history of their country. However, whether one is a compatriot, a foreigner, a student, a professor, or an intellectual of any sort, this book will certainly provide more than enough exceptional information, analysis, and entertainment.

The Heights of Courage: A Tank Leader's War On the Golan
Published in Paperback by Praeger Publishers (28 February, 1992)
Author: Avigdor Kahalani
Amazon base price: $21.95

Good book on what was happening from the troops POV...
Bought this book on the recommendation of a friend and it was a good read. In fact, I read it while on a 12 hour flight from Europe to the southwestern US. Parts of it kind of dragged on, but overall it was a good story about what happened in that war from the point of view of the troops who fought it.

Best of its Kind
I've never read a better personal narrative than Kahalani's "Heights of Courage." Without question, it's the finest combat memoir ever written by an Israeli soldier. Kahalani's blow-by-blow account of fending off successive waves of Syrian T-55's and T-62's is fascinating. Perhaps more importantly, his story is invaluable for its detailed descriptions of the physiological effects of modern mechanized combat. Fatigue, confusion, exhaustion, the entire gamut of the sensory experience of fighting (and leading) from inside a tank is covered in detail. I can't understand why a similar book by an American Gulf War veteran hasn't yet been published. For professional reading or personal study, "Heights of Courage" is highly recommended.

First hand account of fighting on Golan Heights in '73 war.
Undoubtedly this is one of the greatest, most well written battle stories of our time. This is an excellent first-hand account by one who was there and experienced the fighting from beginning to end. A brilliant book written from the vantage point of the men actually fighting on the front line.

This is the absorbing story of a Unit Commander of Battalion 77 of the Israeli Army, fighting against incredible odds against numerically superior and better equipped Syrian forces on the Golan Heights, during the Yom Kippur War of 1973.

The author, Avigdor Kahalani (who received Israel's highest military decoration - the Medal Of Honour), reveals and transmits the fears, traumas and other aspects of human behaviour experienced during the often unbearable stresses of battle.

We are provided with detailed accounts of how a few courageous men and their leaders, prevailed against desperate, apparently insurmountable odds.

This in the context of a failure by Israel to recognise the Arab threat, to sufficiently mobilise in time and thereby being forced to face immense enemy offensive actions with only a small standing force of regulars.

The author provides an analysis of the tactics used, initially just to contain the Syrian offensive & survive, and then to counter-attack resulting in a victory which forced the Syrians to sue for a ceasefire.

This is the compelling story of an elite brigade, from the Commanding Officer through to the soldiers on the ground, who defeated the Syrian forces and succeeded in destroying all the Syrian tanks that had penetrated the Golan Heights.

A breathless read which proceeds at a lightning pace. I highly recommend this book, it really is a first class read.

I also recommend another book on this subject entitled, "Duel For The Golan; The 100 Hour Battle That Saved Israel" by Jerry Asher/Eric Hammel. To fully understand the Yom Kippur War, one really needs to understand what occurred on the Golan Heights and the possible repercussions of an Israeli defeat. These two books will provide an excellent reference on this subject.

Much ado about nothing
Seemed very shallow as though it was written for 1 purpose only, to sell. Nothing but a bunch of anecdotal stories that have aleady been recounted over and over again in your standard MBA program with a sampling of Public Speaking 101 class thrown in. Kind of like being invited to dinner, expecting a big t-bone steak and baked potato, and only getting salad. I think the author would approve of that imagery

Smart Way to Craft More Effective Messages
The most effective leadership messages speak to people through three channels -- factual, emotional and symbolic, according to Crossland and Clarke. Their advice to build all three channels into your communication makes great sense. The book offers lots of practical ideas and engaging examples to help you do just that. It's everything I look for in a business book -- a useful concept, hands-on ideas for implementing it, and an accessible presentation. Great info, great value.

Dynamic communication
"The Leader's Voice" reveals how to change static communication and poor performance into dynamic communication for extraordinary results. A manager speaks to only ensure the job gets done. The leader's voice uses facts, emotions and symbols to motivate and create change. A leader carries out authenticity, and foresight to not only get the job done, but to also promote a willing to go the extra mile. Providing plenty of proven examples from leaders throughout history, with the ABC's of leadership, "The Leader's Voice" equips the reader with the necessary information to remove any obstacles preventing success.

Boyd and Crossland practice what they preach. Their written communication style is direct and to the point, with the determination to make a difference. Using the pictures to stir emotion, the various type fonts to personify symbols and the straight facts from the lives of other leaders immediately captured my attention. They did a fantastic job organizing the material and appealing to my creative core. I would recommend "The Leader's Voice" to anyone attempting to motivate a crowd of one to one hundred and one or more.

Now let me reflect . . .

I used to complain about my mother fixing so much tuna casserole. Her response, "There are alot of starving people in the world. You should be thankful we have food on the table." When my father knew I didn't feel as smart as my sister because of my grades, he would tell me, "You're intelligent. You just need to study a little longer." And when I cried after being hit by a car, my grandmother's words consoled me with, "If God looks over the sparrow, surely he'll take care of you." These voices addressed me with emotion. These voices encouraged me with facts. These voices motivated me with symbols. I now realize these are the voices of the leaders in my life.

The Cheering Section
In his biography of Partick Henry, Vaughan complains that previous biographers were unfair to the legendary statesman. Thus, he moves to correct this historical error by bringing forth a laundry list of glowing facts about Henry. While Vaughan does have a point about previous renderings of Henry's life, he does little to paint a more accurate picture of the orator. Rather, he glosses over Henry flaws, and presents us with a candy-coated version of the man. And Henry was a man--a good man, but a man nonetheless. Unfortunately, this biography fails to recognize that.

A Delightful Read
What a delightful read this book has been. The author displays a clear and deep admiration for his subject, but I find no fault in that. The book reads very easily without a lot of stilted verbiage, making it a wonderful introduction of the great orator to the student.

There is not a lot of detailed analysis here, but I don't believe that was the authors' intention. This work is meant to be an outline and introduction Henry, the Trumpet of the Revolution.

The work is actually presented as three separate volumes in one binding. Part 1 takes the reader from birth to death, touching on the momentous occasions, as well as a good bit of reference to the details of life which shaped the life of Henry. Part 2 gives Henry's views of some of life's virtues, such as Christianity, patriotism and duty and gives an insightful look at the character of this great American. Part 3 concludes with how Henry has been remembered by history, and how he should be remembered.

Overall, a delightful read which I highly recommend to students or anyone wishing to gain a basic insight to a great American patriot.

A "MUST READ" FOR LOVERS OF LIBERTY
It was wonderful to see Patrick Henry's Christian values and belief on the LORD JESUS CHRIST openly written about. I enjoyed it completely and would recommend it to any who enjoy studying the Revolutionary War. BUY IT!

outdated quick fix recipes for success
I am amazed that this type of writing still gets interest. After reading really meaningful books on this subject, like Stephen Covey's 7 Habits or Tom Crane's The Heart of Coaching, I find no place for books that treat this topic with the recipe approach.
After devouting a whole chapter to sell the idea of proffesional coaching, Benton goes on to cite herself incessantly on successful actions she did for herself. She tries to make her points through self refference and other minor examples and cases.
Honestly, I think there are numerous books on this matter out there that really deserve attention. Not this one

Top Marks
As I am putting together a reading list for our management team, this book stands out as one that will be of great value for all managers, old and new. So it's on my list. I give it top marks and highly suggest it.

One of the best
