Leader

This book inspired me. Several years ago I lost interest in organized religion. But, I have always remained someone passionately involved in spirituality--deepening my own and helping others to do the same. This inspiring collection of pieces by young (30-somethings)spiritual/religious leaders showed me that religion is worth a second look. Things are changing, it seems! Lama Surya Das says on the back jacket: "Spiritual Manifestos helps us awaken to the fresh breath of new spirituality in our land and our hearts. It is a call to transformation, both personal and communal. Don't miss it!" I agree. (If you still aren't ready to look anew at organized religion, I recommend another book to you: "Who Is My God?")

I taught this course and was pleasantly surprised by the ease of the teaching. This was due, i think to the lay-out and the content. Everything was where I needed it for every session. Using the Participant Manuals meant that I didn't have to copy anything and everybody always had their material with them. That was nice. I very much reccomend this to anyone interested in the pursuit of spirituality

Shaw's book is an excellent short summary of the career of one of the most noted medical men to come out of the Civil War. Dr. Hunter Holmes McGuire (1835-1900), a native of Winchester, Virginina, served throughout the Civil War as the medical director of the Second Corps, Army of Northern Virginia. He is best noted in history for his time that he served with famed Confederate General Thomas J. Jackson, better known by his nom de guerre, Stonewall. It was McGuire who amputated Jackson's arm at Chancellorsville in May 1863. Shaw's biography is one of two short biographies on Dr. McGuire, the other being by John Schildt. For a short biography of Doctor McGuire, Shaw's book is excellent. Though by far not the definitive biography (a book that has yet to be written) of McGuire, Shaw's book gives an excellent overview of the doctor's career both in the War Between the States and in his post-war work. The medical aspect of the Civil War is often overlooked and this book helps fill in a major gap in Civil War histories by providing a look at one of the major medical figures of the 19th Century, medicine, Civil War, the South, and Virginia.

This is a delightful book. It's incredibly well-written and is enjoyable to read. But more importantly, the messages are powerful. It helps us understand what it means to become a leader in your own life. I highly recommend this book!

Gaelyn Gordon's quirky humour and wonderful story-telling skills are nowhere near as widely appreciated as they should be. Children all over the world should enjoy this book. Although it makes gentle fun of New Zealand's politicians and New Zealand's big weekly lottery, Lotto, I suspect things are much the same in their own countries.

Good book. She does a good job at helping worship leaders and pastors through the Christian Year. Very creative ideas for helping children, and adults who have forgotten, understand the different seasons of the Christian Year; Advent, Epiphany, Lent, etc.

A must have

I wish every executive would read this and get a handle on the difficulty of Y2K technical solutions and in such a short time... less than 180 workdays available at this point, and toward the end more disruptions will occur.

This one is a must read from anyone. Prof Hendricks takes his usual down-to-earth style, and cram packs this book full of useful information. Whether you teach Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, or just want to be a more effective witness of the gospel, this book is for you.

Cohan's concise style and keen insights make for outstanding reading. The case studies are clear and pertinent and the conclusions well thought out. Rather than following the next management paradygm, Cohan applied thought to the issue of maintaining leadership in a highly competitive marketplace. Take the time. It's worth every minute.

Since I am moving into a new position where I will have some leadership roles in our school's technology plans, I wanted to find a book that dealt with practical matters and realistic goals, not the ideals of a "where-we-should-be" text. This book fits the bill very well. It is clear and concise, and has many handy forms and summaries that can be adapted for use. It also does a good job of being more about philosophy and approach, making its commentary valuable for the long-term, rather than being overly specific to a certain point in time because of the references to hardware (which will of course change over time).
