Ordinary Day was GREAT
This book and study guide gives practical ways to stay in touch with Jesus all throughout your day and week. Giving practical ways to invite Him into your thinking and working each day. The main thing I learned (or was reminded of) was that Worship and walk with Jesus is a conscience effort. You need to allow Jesus to walk with you through EVERYTHING you do. We did this study as a small group (12-18 people). The discussions were great and the video added another dimension that held attention and was a wonderful springboard to further discussion. We may do it again with another group!! A super "growth potential" tool for small groups.

The Patton Mind: The Professional Development of an Extraordinary Leader
Published in Paperback by Avery Penguin Putnam (February, 1993)
Author: Roger H. Nye

Anyone striving for excellence should read this book.
O.K., I confess I'm a fan of Patton and read most books on him. But I'm also a professional military historian and analyst who wants my students (both civilians and army officer cadets) to learn the value of reading good books -- and plenty of them.

Patton learned it, as Roger Nye's splendid book makes clear. This carefully researched and very readable volume shows that, throughout his dramatic life, from ambitious boy to four-star general, Patton read and digested almost every military historical and doctrinal book he could get his hands on.

What an example Patton is! When confronted by new tests in combat he was able to draw on an encyclopedic memory of what the 'great captains' of the past had done to achieve success under similar circumstances. And it paid off handsomely.

Nye's book tells us plenty about Patton, and also about the need for us to set goals and prepare and equip ourselves through all-out study to confidently face and overcome the challenges we face as we strive to achieve those goals.

The story of both Peter Stuyvesant and New Amsterdam
From the very start of this juvenile biography for the Colonial Leaders series, Joan Banks makes it clear that Dutch Military Leader Peter Stuyvesant's chief characteristic was stubbornness. Actually, this engaging book is as much about the New Netherlands colony of which "Stubborn Pete" was named governor as it is about the man himself. Stuyvesant, who had lost a leg in a battle, certainly tried to improve the colony in general and the city of New Amsterdam in particular. But Banks also makes it clear that Stuyvesant had his faults; he was quite autocratic and he wanted to ban all other religions besides his own. Banks tells how Stuyvesant protected the colony from Indians and captured New Sweden for the Dutch. In the end, however, he had to surrender to the English and New Amsterdam became New York City. This book is illustrated with historic paintings and drawings, only a few of which actual depict Stuyvesant, as well as some contemporary photographs of both New York and Holland. Peter Stuyvesant is usually mentioned in American History textbooks but this book goes into considerable more detail than what students and teachers would find there. Of course, this book is also of great value to young readers who are researching the early days of what is now New York City.

As real as it gets
PHANTOM LEADER is the third in Berent's five book saga of fighting men in Vietnam. Berent's series gets better as this author gains experience and insight into the lives of his characters. This book is probably the first one in the series I would consider a "must read". The reason is the story of Major Algeron "Flak" Apple who is shot down in his F-4 fighter early in the book and is captured by the North Vietnamese. His story gives the reader a shocking look at life as a prisoner of war inside the Hao Lo prison, known more commonly as the "Hanoi Hilton". His story continues through the final two volumes. Berent agonizing portrayal of Apple's life of misery and torture inside the prison is dramatic and moving. The story also contains the continuing story of Court Bannister, an Air Force pilot that I believe Berent uses to tell his own story. Wolf Lochert also continues his battle as a US Army Special Forces Lt. Colonel. Berent writes with a similar style to Tom Clancy. This book is really five seperate stories that all intersect at one time or another. Berent's books are much easier to read and have more action than technical detail. The reader does, however, recieve enough explanation of military terms and acronyms to understand the sometimes complex language used by military persons. This books is a surperb action novel, but what makes it great is the amazing and horrifying look inside a prison camp of North Vietnam.

Those Who Made a Difference in Our World
Imagine in your quest for truth a banquet sampling of many wise ones from the beginning of time until today...imagine a one-page synopsis of each person's life, work, and legacy...imagine seeing their faces...and learning and growing from their journeys. That's what can be yours when you take the time to digest 199 lives of the courageous philosophers who took brave stands, focused their incredible personal energies, and managed to change the world one person at a time.

This book should be required reading in every high school and college in our world. Our emerging leaders need to know how our world came to be the way it is and the visionary leaders who shaped it, so they can begin to plant seeds of greatness within themselves. After reading this book, no clear-thinking person can ever, ever believe one person cannot make a difference.

Do avoid the temptation to second-guess Editor von Dehsen in his choices. Of course, some are missing. Booker T. Washington is there and George Washington is not, however, Thomas Jefferson is, but Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt are not.

This is a book for every library in every home where people read.

Superb!
I have been a student of the American Civil War for 30-plus years and still find this book, with its accompanying 4 volumes, a foremost commentary and comprehensive photographic assemblage which surpasses most other single volumes or more inclusive works. I like two things about this collection....there are photographs here that I have never seen before, so it is extremely extensive, and it was initially compiled and published in 1911, which gives an advantageous and "less than contemporary" perspective from many actual participants of the event that were still alive at that time. In this particular volume, short biographies and photographs are given of each army's leaders, north and south. Essays are presented on Grant, R. E. Lee, and "Stonewall" Jackson as well as the various departments and armies of both governments. Various statistics are presented such as the sizes of armies, corps, regiments, and so on, and the dates of every battle and skirmi! sh, no matter the impact, with casualty counts. There is also a complete section concerning the veterans organizations which were established during and after the war, including their histories through 1911.

Excellent advice from a top notch man
Colin Powell gives us his strategies for success in this wonderful book. I am a CEO of a Fortune 500 company who has struggled with some of these issues over the years. This book helped me to understand that I am not alone and that some issues, although unspoken, are shared by all in leadership roles.

Prayer Shield, an underutilized weapon of Spiritual Warfare
Wagner gives an up close and personal glimpse of the front lines from behind the scenes...deep in the trenches with the intercessors where the real battle is waged. Prayer support is just that. Many of the names mentioned in this book you, as a reader, will recognize, even if you've only read a few pieces of Christian literature; this isn't name dropping, but it does give you a new perspective on other literature you may have read. It compliments and builds the body of Christ, and though there is a lighthearted and heartfelt approach voiced; it is anything but lame. It's takes a no nonsense and frank approach. Prayer is a mighty weapon, and Christians of all ages and groups need this kind of intercession. This book is geared to enlist or place a call to the prayer warriors amongst us. Let us all pray for one another and especially our pastors and leaders.
