Indermark offers daily scripture readings and reflections based on the text of Genesis. His approach is unusual for he deals strictly with the Genesis text and yet, his is a Christocentric approach in that the reflections are appropriate for the season of Lent as readers move toward the passion and resurrection of Christ. Indermark's reflections feel very contemporary and breathe a new sense of relevance to this old biblical book.

The editors have selected a small number of gems from among the many hanhagot--Hasidic spiritual instructions or practices--which are wonderful inspirations for dealing with everyday life. These is not a book of mysticism, or abstract spirituality. These short pieces (none of them more than a very short page in length) help us in dealing with real world situations. The selection and translation have clearly been done with the contemporary Western reader in mind. The addition of some hanhagot from two modern thinkers--Hillel Zeitlin and Art Green--is the crowning touch.
A wonderful little book for those of us looking for guidance from Jewish tradition in dealing with the vicissitudes of daily life.

One day I arrived at work to find this book lying on my desk. It was a gift from my secretary. However, the book wasn't the gift, the concept inside was. This was her way of telling me that we were a team and that she would always support me. That day I felt truly blessed.

PROS: This book describes a team relationship in which the team members are willing to lay down their own self interests for the leader. The author equates those working for the pastor with Old Testament armor bearers to the kings. Any leader would be humbled to be the recepient of such loyalty and faithfulness.

CONS: These ideas do contain danger. The leader must be an honorable person. Power hungry leaders could take advantage of such support. This book, written from the perspective of the support team, needs to be balanced with a similar book of godly leadership in which the leader copies Jesus and leads on his or her knees with a washbasin and a towel.

This book is not another "pop psychology" book on leadership. This book takes the critical issues that face every leader - issues like Accountability, Change, Relationships, Power and Influence, Integrity and Organization - and provides meaningful advice and counsel based on God's Word. These are principles that never change and that can never fail. Buy this book for your boss, your peers and those who report to you. You will grow and your organization will prosper if you base your leadership on the words found in this book.

Baldoni's "Great Communication Secrets Of Great Leaders" is a well-researched and highly readable "how-to" of leadership communications. This author knows his material, and presents it through the interesting device of linking principles to some of the world's leading communicators. It was refreshing to read a business-centered book that focus specifically on the communication aspects of leadership, which Baldoni obviously understands quite well. As a former professional actor, I also enjoyed how the author links dynamic presentations to effective performance. This book is well worth the modest cover price. A definite "buy!"

In the highly competitive appliance industry, Haier has had remarkable results over the past 20 years starting from the position of a small and almost bankrupt firm.

To achieve these results, Haier has successfully employed a mixture of leading edge manufacturing and management schools any Western company would be proud of and combined them with a set of "Confucian" and other deeply rooted values unique to Chinese culture.

The story of Haier is well presented and easy as well as compelling to read. It should be required reading for any student of management. Unlike many difficult books to follow dealing with improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, the authors of The Haier Way do an outstanding job discussing all of the factors including the "invisible" cultural evolution that have allowed this company to become a leading world brand with over US $8 billion in revenues. This is all the more remarkable given the capital market limitations faced by Chinese companies.

As an appliance industry executive who was sent to China to help teach the Chinese how to manufacture high-quality goods, I have now learned a great deal from Haier and the Chinese authors of this book.

Apart for the price, I thought this was an excellent book. Not only did it apply to managers and team leaders it is also a good read for any team members. The authors broke down teams into three categories; "Dream Teams", "Standard Teams", and "Teams form hell". I found the explanation of the factors that make up these kinds of teams to be very valuable. It gave me alot of information (a checklist if you will) on how to rate our situation and have clear understanding of how to make it better.

A Hard Man to Beat was a story told to Howard White (no relation) by Bill White, former president of the Marine Workers and Boilermakers Union. Bill brought about many changes that made such a difference to the "little guy", or "the working stiff" as Bill referred to his colleagues. He speaks the truth and tells what happened without trying to polish up the story to make it politically correct. The book was reviewed by many TV and radio stations after it was published and was ordered by an Ontario University to use in its Political Science classes. A good read and one that will make you look at modern day politicians in a new light.
