As a youth pastor for 11 years, I have been searching for abook to give to my volunteer youth leaders that would disciple andtrain them for strategic youth ministry, and this is it! Barry St. Clair does a fantastic job of breaking down youth ministry in such a way that a volunteer can fully understand his role as a youth leader while keeping his personal focus of Christ as Lord. As a youth pastor, I'm constantly dealing with that critical issue of time - time for myself and helping youth leaders balance the amount of time they give to serving in our student ministry while still taking care of important needs such as family and personal time. This book helps volunteers address this critical issue of time with practical application included. One other great piece to this book is that it teaches leaders how to lead. Barry St. Clair uses the biblical four-step approach that Jesus used in leading His disciples: 1) Leader does the work and the potential leader is with him, 2) Leader does the work and the potential leader assists, 3) The potential leader does the work and the leader assists, 4) The potential leader does the work and the leader observes. I highly encourage any youth pastor to purchase this book, go through it, and then use it to help train adult leaders to carry out the work of the ministry.

Don't let the title of this book fool you. "Building School Communities" is much more than a great manual on developing leadership skills for principals in a school setting. B.J. Meadows and Marilyn Saltzman offer the reader a hands-on approach to improving basic communication and problem-solving skills, regardless of the setting or context. By looking a little deeper, this gem of a book encourages us to take more responsibility for our own actions, understand the power of good decision-making, become a better listener, learn the art of gentle confrontation, express our support for others, and make a positive impact through our own example. This, in short, is a book about building, facilitating, and sustaining healthy relationships - regardless of who or where we are. BRAVO!

I think that this book is very well written for the age that it was intended for. Also, it is very easy to skim through it and find what your looking for but, if you just want to read through it then it's made for that as well. I give lot's of good tips and stragety's to help your troop. That's why I liked this book and I hope that you will too.

Finally, Carver made simple!. John and Miriam Mayhew Carver, make the Policy Governance model understandable for the Chairperson in this short booklet. After using Carver's Boards That Make a Difference," for years, I have not found many volunteer board members who want to read his 240 page text. However, "Chairpersons Role As Servant Leader to the Board" is short enough (at 20+ pages) and simple enough for most board chairs to read on the way to meeting. If you use the Policy Governance based on Carver's model, I would highly recommend this (and the other 11 booklets in the series).

With large print and phonetic spellings of Spanish words, this book takes readers through the life of Cesar Chavez from childhood to death. The photographs of Cesar as a small boy and Mexican strikers are very appealing to young audiences. I teach second grade and taught a unit on Cesar Chavez using this book as a reference for factual information. The students were engaged throughout the entire reading. Ages 7-9.

This is a wonderful guide to strategic planning. I have been consulting in this area for several years and used several methods. This is by far the most useful and complete product of its kind. You wont be disappointed.

Ryle, though a true doctrinaire Calvinist, was a great Christian writer, soul-winner and preacher who really excelled in the area of historical portraiture.

This book is a classic. The biographies of Whitefield, Wesley (an Arminian ungrudgingly given his due as a great preacher of the Word) and Rowlands are truly profound and uplifting. Space is actually wasted, though, on Augustus Toplapy, when Ryle could have given us a picture of, say, the great John Newton, instead.

Still, this one is a must for those interested in the old gospel, great preahers, or church history. Bravo!

The political analyst and historian Richard Lamb waited 50 years after events so that the British archives could be freely searched for first drafts of letters, memos, cables, and other communiques. We learn what the principals were actually thinking and feeling before they toned down their language in later drafts. Many hints of Winston Churchill's less than perfect diplomacy and military "genius" are scattered through histories and memoirs that he could not bowdlerize. Along with a generally positive assessment of Churchill's popularity as at tough pitbull, these imperfections are highlighted in Lamb's account. Here we find Churchill to have been doggedly and impetuously fallible, terrible in confrontation, mulish in his negotiations, and very shrewd in his sub-rosa efforts to bring the United States into the war. He fired good generals and kept on mediocre ones; he blundered so badly with the French that Americans paid blood on the beaches of North Africa. He pushed for boyishly-conceived sallies against military advice and got blood on his hands for which he dodged responsibility.

Without stating so explicitly, Lamb makes it clear that of the three European warlords, Churchill was the least capable; if it had not been for the codebreakers (Ultra), Hitler's strategies and tactics likely would have mangled every British, Canadian, and British-American venture. And the perfidy Churchill used to further his post-war aims for the British Empire was outclassed and outgunned by Stalin.

Lamb's prose is elegant as his research is uncannily good. Every WWII amateur should read this book. Pity that it went out of print.
