Wonderful - My 4 year old loves it!
I saw this book and didn't think anything of it, then I checked it out at the library and discovered that my daughter loved it (4 years old) and it brought up many discussions about herself and others. We love reading it together! I had to buy it because she kept wanting to check it out again, and again.

An excellent book, kids and parents will like it!
This is an excellent book, it's not hokey and fake like many "self-esteem" books. The content is right on target, speaking exactly to kids' interests and parents' concerns. My first grader took it to school to read, the teacher loved it--wanted to know where I got it.

Truly remarkable in affirming children's self worth
When I inherited my now nine year old daughter after her mother died, this is a book I wish we had found right away. Before we finished the first page, Kim started saying things like, "This is excellent," and "This is my favorite book ever." All of the concerns of this young lady were addressed and affirmed: appearance, feelings, privacy, changes and more. Just Because I Am truly helped her understand that even with her experiences, she really is a worthwhile person. Hearing it from the perspective of a stranger (the author)and accompanied by the brightly colored illustrations of just the right complexity gave this much more weight than all the times I have expressed similar concepts in less lovely prose.

Breaking out of the thinking straitjacket
In Chapter 11, Paul Sloane remarks that 'many of the rules that apply in businesses were set in earlier times and have endured by force of habit'. The main objective of the book is to give the reader tools and tips for becoming a lateral leader and empowering colleagues to challenge these rules, often by thinking the apparently unthinkable. This objective is 100% achieved.

Each Chapter ends with a lateral thinking puzzle to illustrate the importance of 'thinking outside the box' when trying to solve a problem creatively, and with a number of Exercises with titles like Brainstorming, Reverse the Problem and What If?

Perhaps the best examples of the personal habits to be overcome in building a lateral thinking team are the tendency to jump to conclusions, impatience to offer solutions, and reluctance to listen properly to other people's ideas.

The author successfuly shows us how to cast aside the blinkers and find the best answers to even the most intractable problems.

Intelligent, practical and readable
This is a delightfully fresh approach to a very well-worn subject: how to enable innovation and creativity in business. Paul Sloane sets out the vital importance of innovation in modern business, using a very wide range of stimulating examples and case studies. He also offers a number of very practical methods businesses can use to encourage and foster a climate of innovation. You won't find all the techniques useful, but there's such a broad spread there's bound to be a few which work for any particular business.

The writing is intelligent but very readable, so it works on two levels: as a light, thought-provoking read and as a practical manual for taking action with a particular business.

Valuable insights into creative leadership
As a leader within your organization, how can you encourage and empower your employees to take a creative, entrepreneurial approach to exploit new opportunities? Paul Sloane's new book provides some valuable, practical insights that can help you to create a more innovative culture in your organization. Sloane does a marvelous job of explaining how to unlock your employees' creative potential, using lateral leadership skills and strategies. His lively and energetic writing style is both informative and inspiring, while his advice is based on the best practices of some of the world's most successful and innovative organizations.

Excellent!!
This AudioCD with Michael Dell, Jack Welch, Jack Greenberg and Quincy Jones is worth a lot more than it's weight in gold. The listener is given the rare opportunity to view the business landscape from the perspective of great leaders who captain some of the biggest and best run companies on the planet. Success in business is about vision, innovation, customers, branding, team building and execution. The candid interviews on this CD bring these points home very clearly. If Tom Peters ever decides to write In Search of Excellence - the millennium edtion, he would do well to begin with the leaders featured on CD #1. Job well done by Mark Thompson and Richard Wilson.

The Real Thing
Forget all the theory and nonsense you hear from the gurus and academics about what they 'imagine' a leader should or could do! This is the real thing. Real CEOs talk about their best ideas and worst mishaps. Finally we hear what works and what doesn't in plain English from people who actually have done it! No secret sauce. No bull. I listened to Leaders of the New Century during my commute this week and I'm requiring my senior management team to listen to the whole set.

Its good to hear real interviews
This audio CD was a refreshing change from the usual audiobook on leadership. Instead of the typical announcer reading from a script - or author reading from a script - this had the interviewees speaking off the cuff about their experiences as leaders.

I particularly enjoyed the interview with Michael Dell. As a business owner, I could take and apply much of what he discussed to my business.

Overall, a very well done CD, with some fascinating guests, discussing what it takes to lead. I look forward to hearing the rest of the series.

Leadership 101
Every CEO should require their team to listen to these leaders. When I think of all the time our management team has wasted with consultants and gurus, I know now that the first thing you should do is get a copy of this series for everyone who works for you and require them to listen to it. This is what leaders have done to win their people and customers from actual interviews with the CEOs themselves. Easy listening format with some interesting insights from leaders in many fields.

Leadership Masterpiece
Thompson and Wilson have put together a remarkable series here, with wisdom from people who have fought for their dreams, suffered setbacks and yet succeeded in every imaginable part of the human experience. Will it make you a better leader and manager? Sure. But the reason is that it's not just about leadership; it's about finding out what matters, then going out and making a difference.

Leaders Who Make Difference --- Makes a Difference
There is a dearth of leadership literature aimed at the non-profit and public sectors. Leaders Who Make a Difference by Nanus and Dobbs helps to fill that void. It is a very valuable leadership guide and reference book for leaders in the non-profit sector. Their synthesis of the leadership literature and their emphasis on shared vision, strategy, and team building with tools and guides is very valuable to students of leadership as well as current mangers who are enhancing their leadership skills. The roles of a leader that are emphasized - visionary, strategist, change agent, coach, politician, and campaigner - are useful reminders to leaders in all sectors about the importance and complexity of leading well with a full set of skills. This book is being used in the curriculum of an International Family Planning Leadership Program with great success - so it has global relevance and appeal. Our fellows have found the book to be full of tips and tools that serve to validate the skills that they already have as well as guide them to devleop more facets of their leadership. I highly recommend this book to leadership development programs and practitioners in the non-profit and public sectors.

Home run on leadership for not-for-profits
"As Editor of the Not-for-Profit CEO Monthly Letter, I had occasion to review "Leaders Who Make a Difference" for our readership, which consists almost entirely of executive directors and board members. I recommended it enthusiastically, telling our readers that 'this volume should be on your desk; not in the book case, but on your desk.' After the review was published, I received the following letter from a nationally known consultant to not-for-profit boards." George B. Wright, Editor, "The Not-For-Profit CEO Monthly Letter," C3 Strategies, Portland, OR

"The challenges today's nonprofit organizations face make effective leadership a critical need. By combining relevant theory with case studies that exemplify leadership excellence, Nanus and Dobbs have created an invaluable and much-needed resource for all nonprofit leaders." Kathleen D. Edwards, consultant and author, Bowman-Edwards & Associates, Seattle, WA.

Keen analysis of NPO leadership roles
Academics and practitioners working in the nonprofit sector have long recognized that the quality of organizational leadership is a major determinant of agency performance. Much of the existing leadership literature has its roots in the corporate or public management fields. By contrast, Nanus and Dobbs have built up an analysis grounded in the experience and special institutional context of the nonprofit sector. As an academic teaching and researching in this area, I appreciate the focus on the nonprofit sector, the theoretical framework and the empirical accounts offered.

In my current nonprofit management course (begun before publication of the book), I found that assigning sections of the book: Chapters 1,7,8,and 9 (the guts of the theory), to be especially helpful. Each student is required to do a descriptive, detailed NPO case study. An element of this study is a descriptive account of a recent or current organizational management issue. The Nanus and Dobbs theory section enabled me and the students to put these management issues into perspective and to identify the critical role of leadership. Next spring, I plan to use the Nanus-Dobbs book as one of my assigned texts and to enlarge on the course treatment of leadership issues. I suggest that other academics consider a similar use.

I also expect that "Leaders Who Make a Difference" would be an effective and appealing aid in the recruitment and training of NPO board members. It offers a keen overview of the leadership roles the board can play; in addition it makes that role realistic, appealing and challenging.

A MUST READ if you're starting cells
This book powerfully impacted me as the cell administrator of our church. Joel's message in this book has found it's way into a majority of my teaching of both the new and existing cell leaders. If you're looking at becoming a cell church, this book will be a great asset to you. It will give you practical information, but (in my opinion) more importantly, it will inspire you. I couldn't put it down.

This book is an excellent resource for cell churches
Joel Comiskey has written many books on cell groups and cell churches. In my opinion, this is the most practical. It is particularly helpful for laying the foundation of a new cell ministry. God is showing us that small group settings allow for deeper discipleship and rapid church growth. However, before we can multiply cells, we need to equip our leaders. It isn't about the quantity, it is about quality. I highly recommend this book to all those who are looking to start a new cell ministry. The harvest is plenty, but the workers are few. Let God begin to multiply cell group leaders within your church.

A Highly Recommended Tool!
This is an excellent in depth tool for church leaders who want to reach their communities for Christ. This hands on, nuts and bolts approach will inspire you to do exploits for the Kingdom of God.

Like a hammer and a wrench, this book is a must have in every church leaders tool box.

Buy them and give them out to pastors everywhere.

Excellent Book for excellent leader!
I have read this excellent book by Anderson, Personally I want to say that this book is excellent and extraordinary. Because of his insight and scholars background plus his background of practical ministry that make this book became awesome. Beautiful insight and the richess of his experience make this book easy to read and nice. I encourage to all Christian leader to read and apply this principle in this book, this is a book for the future leader in this generation and to the next generation. Thanks and God bless you.

Great for anyone who wants to grow as a leader.
This was a great book. I thought of many mistakes I've made in the ministry.

Leadership From One Who Does It and Communicates It!
This book is a steal! Where [can] you get in one place such practical wisdom from a successful, significant, and sacrifical pastor like Leith Anderson. He successfully combines an understand of character and comptence, with a conviction that great leaders have both.

He successfully juggles the practice of pastoral ministry with the ability to write and speak about the broad spectrum of pastoral ministry. Leith is one of the top five communciators about pastoral ministry in North American today.

One quote sums up the book: "Leadership is figuring out what needs to be done and then doing it." [51]

When you read Leadership That Works you are not hearing primarily about the success story of Wooddale Church, you are hearing about the principles of leadership that actually will work for you in your place of ministry.

I can personally testify to the validity of Leith's ministry having heard him speak, engaged him in dialogue, visited with him in his own church for worship, and seen his authentic ministry at work.

Adweek Was Right-This is a Must Read!
This is a very well written book on advertising. It is nice for a change to have heard of the authors! Usually when I read a review in another publication, such as Adweek, I am curious about the book but never buy it-this time I went ahead and bought it and I am most pleased. I am looking even more forward to the publisher's book entitled Inside the Minds: Leading Marketers - with the Chief Marketing Officers from Coke, GE, FedEx, American Express and other big names. It will be a very interesting contrast to the advertising side of the business.

Must read for every advertiser.
This book is a must read for every advertiser-fantastic insight into the future of the advertising world. Adweek was right-this is a must read.

Fantastic Book-Must Read for Any Advertiser
I have read close to 50 books on advertising throughout my career and this was by far the most innovative and thought provoking book I have read to date. I especially liked the chapter by Tim Love at Saatchi & Saatchi-but the entire book is full of insightful thoughts on where the future of the advertising industry is going. This is THE book to read if you are in the advertising, marketing or public relations industries.

A Great Book for Christian Leaders!
Paul Heier, pastor of Lifespring Church of Palm Harbor, Florida, has provided a heart-felt and gripping book about the importance of walking with Jesus. As a former college administrator and professor, he brings out many salient points about leadership. For him, no one can properly lead unless they have a genuine and daily dependency on Christ. Everything rises and falls on our love for and from Jesus Christ. This book is an excellent resource for pastors, deacons, Bible college students, lay leaders, and those interested in ministry.

Be a leader ...
Paul has defined what being a leader is all about. Read it for the insight, but live it for the true value! Step up to the plate as a leader the leads through their love relationship with Christ. The author's points are structured well and can be a tool that can be used in your ministry right out of the package! People will see the difference when you lead out of love!

a must-read
This is a must-read for all leaders. The author does a great job of giving practical guidelines for leaders and explores areas of leadership that so many prefer to avoid.
