A Must Read
A must read to find out what happens to Jessica and Christopher.
One moment she was standing in her bedroom of her twentieth century Connecticut home and the next minute, Jessica and her son are in a cold strange room, she was swept back in time to the year 1812. I could not put this book down.

Excellent how-to book for beginners and experienced crafters
The projects in this book are wonderful for beginner crafters, or experienced crafters looking for inspiration to make some gorgeous hair accessories. A variety of techniques are used, including:Using polymer clay Setting and gluing rhinestonesSimple beading techniques Embroidering with beadsUsing feathers and ribbons Painting techniquesCutting and using metal sheet Projects include hair clips (barrettes) & combs, headbands, and slides. What makes this book truly a stand-out in the world of crafting books is the fine photography (beautiful color photographs on almost every page), the excellent step-by-step instructions, the wide variety of designs, and the fact that many of the projects can be made with items you already own. Other items can be easily found at your local craft store. The projects could be completed by older children with adult supervision, or as joint parent-child projects. Such fun!I've used many craft books, and this is one of the very best.

Great Support for Older Students!
I found that this book can provide a great writing scaffold for older students who are struggling writers. Often, students in 3rd grade and above who are emergent writers are embarassed to write, as their writing looks 'babyish' compared to their peers. Here's an idea I've used, with Making Big Books as a resource: Have your students create simple story lines that are used with patterned books for preschoolers, kindergartners, or primary special ed students. This has the benefits of: giving a sense of purpose to the activity; engaging students in a modification of "language experience" in which students write down their thoughts, then use those for reading. Remember the strong reading/writiing connection (Adams, 1990). Pattern books such as Making Big Books can help jump-start your students!

For the truly dedicated crafter, a complete course book.
The first thing you should know before buying this book is that this is not one of those ready-made, quick 'n' easy project books: you will be making your boxes entirely from scratch, section by section. Obviously a lot of work for something that you may only intend as the holder for a "real" present, but that is the point. These lavish, artistically crafted containers ARE worthy gifts in themselves, and showpieces of your skills from more than one area of crafting.
The author starts with lists of basic necessities for cardboard box crafting, detailing types of cardboard needed for various parts of boxes and glues, tools, etc. Next, there is a Techniques section, with step-by-step illustrations of the various steps in boxmaking, such as batting, wrapping, assembling, and lining strips. A similar section on ribbon embroidery techniques and other embellishments follows. These instructions are basic enough to serve as valuable references, and someone who has never attempted ribbon embroidery before can conceivably do a decent job if he/she pays careful attention.

The "real" fun comes in the largest section, the projects lavishly photographed and laid out in two-page spreads. These boxes are arranged from beginners skill level at the beginning, to the advanced crafter level at the end. Each project uses new box building skills that build upon the skills practiced in the last project.

I know this all sounds extremely complicated and exhausting; but I have found it to be worth it due to the fabulous results. There are scalloped, diamond shaped, and heart-shaped boxes of various sizes at the introductory level alone. If you decided to stop there, you would already have some beautiful victorian-inspired treasures that are totally unique from any prefabricated craft store box, many with hinged and fitted lids, lined in velvet or silky materials and padded sumptuously for a feminine feel -- and you would not have to spend more than an hour or so of total work. But mere boxes are just a starting point. Further along are a pincusion shelf with two drawers, a teapot, a crescent moon, a 12 inch doll's travel wardrobe case, and more.

If I had to nitpick some cons I could mention that it was a little inconvenient to have to spend time at the copiers enlarging the box patterns. The only other drawback is the time you will spend shopping for just the right fabrics and notions to decorate your finished products -- which, after all, is one of those drawbacks that plagues many other crafts as well, including quilting and making clothes. So, if you are already involved in some other area of crafting, you may have some of what you need already lying about.

Because of the involved and time consuming nature of this discipline, I have sadly had time to devote to learning only a few of the beginner's boxes and one more advanced project, a romantic keepsakes box with a drawstring pouch for a top instead of a lid. This particular box has been variously enlarged and reduced to fit the size of intended birthday, shower and Christmas gifts, changing color schemes and notions to reflect the occasion. It has become a favorite of mine and the recipients often treasure these containers long after they have eaten the chocolates or dried fruit that was inside. So I believe that if you only find one favorite as I have, it will become like a special signature gift that you will learn to make quickly as you practice it.

In a nutshell, this is a great book for those who wish to put time and care into something original and beautiful that will be used as gifts and keepsakes.

Fun with Fertilizer
I love this book. Of course, my father wrote. Gosh, it is good. If you are like me and you have always been keenly interested in the story of American fertilizer. or, If you grew up in the shadow of the great MCC and wondered how did America's largest cooperative owned business come to employ your dad. Then this book is for you!

I can attest to the hundreds of hours of interviews with former employees. The blood, sweat, and coffee that went into this book. Its good.

Seriously, this book tells an interesting story of the growth of great company started by a group of self-determined farmers and a man with a vision, Owen Cooper. Because Mississippi Chemical kept bulging files documenting their history, this book is able to tell how a cooperative company grew along with its hometown, Yazoo City, Mississippi.

And, its by my Dad. Jo G. Prichard III
Great man, he is...

Thanks.

Best American Author About Lawyers
It is difficult to understand why the three major works of Mr. Osborn are out of print, or for that matter, why there are not more books from this fine author. Mr. Osborn's work should be required reading for anyone even remotely thinking of going to law school.

This book is absolutely wonderful!
I am a senior mass communications major at the State University of West Georgia. During Spring 1997, I was assigned to do a research project on certain aspects of free press and fair trial. The Mass Communications Law Casebook was a wonderful source. Smith fills the book with unbiased detailed and it was extremely easy to understand. My classmates and I fought for the only copy in our library when it came time for our final exam! This is a wonderful learning resource.

Great - you need to add this to your daily program.
I teach first grade and I start each day with one of these problems. My students must draw a picture that shows the problem and the answer; write the number sentence; and write the answer in words, using as many words from the question as possible. I also use manipulatives. For example, if the problem has six horses and two cows and the question is "How many more horses are there than cows?", I give the students six red linkercubes and two yellow linkercubes, and the answer becomes very obvious. So my advice is to add manipulatives to the problem solving whenever possible.

I first introduced the story problems in small groups (about two weeks), and then I moved to doing the problem whole class. I encourage my students to solve the problem in their cooperative learning groups before we discuss and solve it whole class.

I like the format of this book
I'm taking medical microbiology and found this book quite helpful in preparing for my microbiology exams. Viruses and different types of bacteria are easy to learn by the use of this text. I also found very valuable for my microbiology exams: Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
by Patrick Leonardi
This last study guide eliminated a lot of surprise questions that I would not have known without the help of this book.
