Gloria, the Christmas Angel
Outstanding book! The story of a "not so perfect" angel and how she ends up announcing the birth of Christ is concise, elegant and delightful! The illustrations are perfect and fit the story. I collect children's books and was thrilled to find this gem!

Not Just for Children
God works in veiled and mysterious ways often choosing the marginalized, the overlooked, and the simple to do His bidding and His most important works. In Gloria the Christmas Angel, author Scott Asalone captures the true spirit of the season which is all about discovering and celebrating our purpose in life. Anyone, not just children, will appreciate the heart warming classic tale this story will become!

A wonderfully deightful Christmas picturebook story.
Gloria is a rather klutzy angel who feels unfit and forgotten. But deep down inside herself, Gloria finds the power to believe in herself when no one else does and meets a child born in poverty who turns out to be the son of God. Because she can see beyond appearances, Gloria not only brings the good news to the poor, she also announces that it is the people of poverty who are also God's own children. Gloria: The Christmas Angel is a wonderfully delightful Christmas picturebook story for young readers ages 4 to 8 that is both entertaining and profound.

Marion Dane Bauer--a Newbery Honor author and part-time breeder of puppies and kittens--captures the wonder of birth in this poetic, playful picture book about how animals come into being. Each oversized, double-page spread lovingly depicts 12 different types of animal babies, including a human, with a few simple lines such as, "If you were a baby seahorse, you'd pop out of your father's pouch and swim away with hundreds of sisters and brothers." Bauer's tender tone, gracefully infused with intriguing animal facts, makes this an unusual homage to the miracle of life. JoEllen McAllister Stammen's magical, soft pastel illustrations beautifully complement each birth story and pay tribute to the special bond between parents and their babies. Young children will love hearing about how other little ones are born, making this winning book a wonderful, sleepy, educational bedtime read. (Picture book)

The wonder of nature
This book should appeal to many age levels. My 18 month old begs for it over and over again. The illustrations are beautiful- soft and detailed with the animals filling up the whole page. The text is one or two sentences per page and he knows the names of the animals. For the older child the facts about each animal provide an introduction to the fascinating diversity of the natural world and a reference point leading to a discussion of his or her own birth.

Lovely book!
I read this beautifully illustrated book to my four-year-old son many times throughout my pregancy. The fact that he was born himself, just like the animals, pleased him immensely. I enjoyed reading it over and over because of the simple, charming words the author uses to describe birth. The whale mother nudges the baby whale up for its "first sip of air." The baby elephant wears "a halo of long, brown hair." And the human baby "rode curled beneath (its) mother's heart." What a wonderful, sweet way to explain the miracle of life to young children. It is also a great way to explain the different ways some animals are born. Daddy Seahorses give birth? Frogs have babies that don't look like them? It could lead to yet another trip to the library!

My son's baby sister is more than six months old, yet he still counts this book as one of his favorites. I highly recommend it!

the author has an almost magical way of describing birth.
With brief, but magical descriptions of the moments of birth for several animals, the author carries you into the special realization of the unique and magical love in human birth. The artist's fantastic pictures bring you into the world of each animal. A beautiful, and gentle introduction into the world of reproduction, without fear or discomfort. Complete innocence left unmarked, but with inspired appreciation for a true miracle.

Jim's Courthouse
I enjoyed this novel from the beginning to the end. You are invited to witness a twisted love affair between three people. You'll learn that a man who loves two women is a man in trouble. Be sure to check out this novel and find out how Jim's life unfolds. Can true love survive? Jo Ella has a gift that I hope she continues to use. She can weave a tale that traps your imagination and makes you feel for her characters. I'm looking foward to more of her tales.

Fascinating novel
A marvelous and fascinating story that keeps the reader absorbed on every page. It reveals the humanity and struggles of Southern life during the Civil War era. Ms White involves the reader emotionally in this compelling story of love and the hardships of war. White is a wonderful storyteller that touches the heart. Her discriptions are so vivid that I felt I was living with her characters. A wonderful addition to one's library.

Jim's Courthouse
Jim's Courthouse written by JoElla White is a compelling story set in the Civil War days in upper South Carolina. Ms. White's depiction of the rural country side, events and characters makes for one of the best books I have read. This book is well written and although described as a "romantic" novel, it still lets the reader draw conclusions and encourages the readers imagination! Ms. White has done an outstanding job of joining fact and fiction. Jim's Courthouse is one book that you will not want to put down until the final page. I highly recommend you read this one, you will not be disappointed.

A wonderful story for all ages
Journey to Welcome is a wonderful book that all ages will enjoy, even though it's written with young teens in mind. It is beautifully written and the characters are so well developed that the reader is left wanting to know more when the book is finished. My two children (ages 10 and 11) thoroughly enjoyed the book from start to finish. There are historical references about the 1930s and 1940s that make the story very authentic, and they fit very nicely within the story line. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story.

Endearing characters, unexpected plot, courageous children
_Journey to Welcome_ is an enchanting interesting journey into childhood during WWII. The characters are realistic and endearing. The plot moves well, taking many unexpected twists and turns. The children involved face their difficulties with imagination and courage. The reader leaves this book happy to have known these people and their town.

Panorama of World War Two, seen from a small Texas town.
Babich has managed to capture the flavor of Hill Country Texas in the Forties while digging deep into its history and far into the conflict abroad. The characters defy stereotype and prejudice, are full of surprises, with a dash of mystery and adventure. A good tale well told.

This was an excellent book
I love this autobiography of George Strait. It is the first book I have read about him. It gave great detail to his life and his music. I am waiting for another book about him to come out. he is so interesting and a true country singer.

Cool before country was cool!
George Strait, the original country "hat act" is the subject of this new biography by Jo Sgammato. The story begins in his early days from his hit album, Strait Country, to the present. Strait has been at the top of the charts for sixteen years, a rarity for most country stars. I have been a fan of his for many years and was very excited when the book "Keepin' It Country," was announced. This book is must reading for all of his fans. As Barbara Mandrell sings, "I was county when country wasn't cool." This is also true of Strait the country sensation who never performs without his hat.

Very informative
I really enjoyed this book. It gave good back-ground information on the singer and the person.

F for Fantastic
Another great collaboration for the Wargin-Van Frankenhuyzen team. This is a terriffic book and the poetry / informative text makes it a great read for preschoolers through late elementary ages. Along with the fabulous pictures, the author once again has combined an enjoyable read with a great history lesson on the state of Illinois. The pictures are so well done, that they compell you to want to read more about each place or event. An altogether great book for your children's library.

this book is super for any age
When my children were young I began collecting state alphabet books. It was a way we all learned about our states. Some were good , some were not so good. This "L is for Lincoln" is a wonderful learning tool for readers of all ages. It's format has poetry as well as side-bar information for older readers. The bright and creative illustrations are marvelous. I hope the author and llustrator do more state books. This book holds the title "the best" in my collection of over 200 alphabet books. Fabulous Book!!
This book was so helpful. I went to the library for books on herb gardening and returned home with a bag full. This book was the only one I felt compelled to purchase. It contains tons of great information accompanied by interesting annecdotes. This book is a must for anyone interested in growing and--more importantly--using herbs everyday. Oh, it also has lots of great recipes!!

Refreshing.
" Though herb books are everywhere you turn these days, a classic guide for the home gardener hasn't been produced in my opinion since Adelma Simmons'HERB GARDENING IN FIVE SEASONS. Until now. Jo Ann Gardener's new book should be the herb classic for this generation. It was refreshing to read an herb book so full of deep, personal, first hand knowledge...Gardener grows her herbs in the harsh environs of a farm on a windy peninsula in Cape Breton. Isolated, with no phone or vehicle, she's has to rely on her resourcefulness to make her herb gardens work. They became so abundant she was able to start her own business, "Jo Ann's Kitchen & Garden". In her book, she shares all the methods she's developed over the years for growing and harvesting herbs, using them in the home and intergrating them into the landscape. Though I've looked through lots of herb books over the years, I found many, many fresh original ideas here. In the heart of the book, "The Herbs in MY Life: 74 Herb Portraits" all the information is based on Gardener's experience. They are deeply personal rather than encyclopedic and a true joy to read...A definite classic for the herb garden book shelf. Pinetree Garden Seeds Catalog, New Gloucester, Maine"

I thought the book was excellent.
Who new there was so much to write about on herbs. This book loaded with useful information about herbs and how you can use them. I would recomend this book to anybody who love's herbs or even plants. I would mention some of the parts of the book that I found intresting but I don't want to spoil the book on anyone. I really enjoyed the book Jo Ann, Thanks.

The Lord's Day

Interesting and Informative Book
I began the reading of Pipa's book believing the Sabbath had been abrogated....

I suppose I am still in the same position, but Pipa has certainly made my foundation for that thinking start to shake. I plan on reading it again sometime and perhaps this time I will be convinced. As of yet I am not. Still this book is highly recommended. Pipa argues for his position from the Bible. This book is well worth your time and money.

Author lives what he teaches
Joey Pipa is a living example of what he writes. As President of Greenville Theological Seminary, former professor at Westminster Seminary, West, and pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America, he has been talking about the proper observance of the Lord's Day for many years. He was my pastor for a couple of years, and I observed first-hand his love for the Lord and his delight in the Lord's Day. He is a Reformed Presbyterian and a modern-day Puritan. I highly recommend this book - it is one of only a handful of books that exalts the fourth commandment.

A God-centered approach to the Sabbath
This book belongs on the shelf of every Christian's library. Pipa does a wonderful job communicating the theology of the Sabbath, which needs to be done more in Christendom. The Sabbath has not been abrogated, as so many Christians purport. It has been fulfilled in Christ, but the principle of its keeping is perpetual. Pipa addresses key Scripture which others use to show the Sabbath's abrogation, such as Col. 2 and Heb. 4. (He could also use Mt. 24:20 to punctuate his argument.)

Pipa explores the meaning of Is. 58:13,14 to show how the Sabbath day is to be observed. He shows it's not a day to delight is ourselves, but is to be solely Christ-focused, with works of mercy and necessity.

If you are a Christian, don't let this book pass you by! It's very readable and non-technical.

A Fascinating Treasure, even for young readers
My 7 year old son, Aaron, and I have just finished reading Macon Treasures Remembered. He was totally fascinated with it! What a wonderfully done work. It was so special to me to be able to tell him about the town in which I grew up.

Macon Treasures, Remembered
This book has been needed a long time! The photos are spectacular! The anecdotes tickle your tastebuds for more. It makes you want to go on a tour of each home and learn more. Thank goodness these authors preserved the memories of times past and talents shared of people who cared about building a city of warmth and beauty in which to live out their lives and for generations to appreciate over a hundred and seventy years later. A great book to sit with by the fire and take a journey back in time and be inspired for today.

Exceptional creation!
This is a wonderful book. Venture into the world of antebellum Georgia as you relive the characters and mansions of beautiful, historic Macon, GA--the city that Sherman by-passed but General Layfayette visited. The authors and photographer have taken extraordinary pains in recreating the old South. Outstanding photography and dynamic history.
