Florence Nightingale was the first "modern" nurse. Her methods were revolutionary in her time, and they form the basis for the techniques of patient management that have been taught ever since. This volume is a great overview, in her own words, of her ideas on care, cleanliness, and the nursing process in general. Her directives are widely applicable today. Anyone interested in the healthcare process, nursing, or notable women in history would do well to read this little volume. Highly recommended.

Much of what Florence Nightengale is still pertinet today when you get back to the basics of nursing. Excellent commentaries by various authors at the beginning of the book provide insights on how Nightengale's thoughts and theories apply to modern nursing.

It also includes several sample resumes, and cover letters. There is also an optional companion workbook available to help map out your unique situation.

After reading and reviewing this book, I can strongly recommend it to any nurse looking for a change in his/her career.

Eagles has prepared an extremely interesting and educational book for new graduates of BSN and MSN programs as well as for RNs already in practice who are contemplating a change in their career trajectory. The book offers many very practical guidelines for how nurses can best use their expertise and skills to make contributions to the health care field. Eagles illustrates how to use the nursing process in changing one's career and life to make the most of a nurse's unique abilities. She identifies how nurses can use the changes in health care to maximize their own positions. Excellent examples of resumes, face letters, and thank-you letters are provided. There is also a very comprehensive listing and explanation of nursing resources such as journals, nursing organizations, home care providers, and online resources.

The author is a great teacher and this is certainly some of her best work. I think this is a great book for nurses.

I am a second year nursing student, and this has been my most favorite book this semester. Dr. Watson's definition of human care and caring is very clear and concise. The book is a true work of philosophical art. I enjoyed it very much, and will read it over and over. Thank you Dr. Watson!!

This book help us to understand the true meaning of nursing in our days. With this concept of nursing, nurses really understand that they make all the difference. Jean Watson view of nursing is one of caring and supporting people in their context, respecting them as complete human beens.

This book is written by one of the pioneers in this modern age helping people get free of demonic bondage only through Christ.
Very effective, useful information building on the theme of faith in and reliance on Christ being the only way of freedom out of bondage to demons.
His tone is compassionate and he writes concisely and powerfully and his exhortations have helped me to stay free, after being delivered by Christ from many kinds of occult bondage.
He teaches that even Christians can have problems with demons due to any involvement, knowing or unknowingly, in the occult.

This is an essential book of discernment and training. One must learn the difference between mental illness and possesion. Too many mistakes have been and coninue to be made in this area due to untrained individuls. Get this book, if you are walking in this realm of spritual bondage.

This book is an excellent and provocative insight into the practice of ethics. The sagacity it provides is probably indispensible. It is illustrative of the reality that everything we do is morally grounded, and further that morality can NEVER be a polarized issue. Morality and ethics is dependant on the circumstances, and this does not insinuate relativism at all. If one is to read this book, they will have no doubt that the time spent was anything but well worth it.

On Moral Grounds is an update of Maguire's earlier work The Moral Choice. The newer work with the insights of Fargnoli offers the reader a terrific approach to a method of Ethics. The Foundational Moral Experience (FME) is offered as a universal starting point for all to begin the art/science of ethics. The structure of the "wheel and hub" allows one to visualize the essential aspects for a mature ethical decision making. I have used this book on the graduate, undergraduate, as well as advanced high school programs. It can be easily adapted to communities of faith as well as agnostic and atheistic communities. It is well written and an enjoyable read for all interested in the arena of morality.

As a woman in today's society, I found this book so refreshing and so enlightening. No writer has ever approached the subject of feminism so intelligently and with such true divine inspiration. Any man or woman would enjoy reading this and find it full of truth and wisdom. It's especially encouraging for women today-- we who can be so undervalued and disrespected from Coors Light commercials that make us out to be undignified objects' of men's pleasure to groups like NARAL who insist that a mother's dignity is elevated by the ability to choose between herself and her child. Women are dignified, compassionate, strong creatures, and I think John Paul II captures this so eloquently in this apostolic letter.

This is by far the best devotional I've found yet. I have search for a devotional that mixes a scripture reading with insightful application and had been fairly unsuccessful until now. I have been reading this daily on my Pocket PC and completely love it. There are times I want to call all my friends to tell them about what I've read. I have been a Christian for many years and have solid understanding of the word. Taking that into account, I don't know how great it would be for a new/baby Christian. Nonetheless, I have tried many devotionals and this is my favorite by far!

This is an excellent devotional; concise, yet rich. I have not read the whole thing, but what I have read so far as quickened my heart for God and inspired me to live a more Godly life. I particularly like the readers on the CD.

This book is not a book of answers. It is more a summary of the current body of knowledge on several subjects in science, which suggests possible answers and allows the reader to decide. Source for further research are included in case you want to know more about a topic.

I teach high school biology. I use the readings to increase interest in science related subjects. The book is wonderful for thought provoking openers to class. I highly recommend this fun fact filled book to anyone interested in startling vignettes.

This was the first book I read by John Howard Yoder, when I was first considering if there was something to this Christian pacifism idea. Suffice it to say that I was not disappointed. This little book contains some of the most tightly argued and well written cases for Christian Pacifism that I have ever encountered. While Yoder is best known for his magisterial "The Politics of Jesus", this book contains some far more philosophically-minded, logical and systematic defenses of Christian Pacifism.

The book is divided into two sections, one focusing on Biblical perspectives and the other on "Ecumenical Perspectives", which could perhaps have been better labled as Ecclesial perspectives. All of the material in this book has been reproduced elsewhere (in "The Royal Priesthood") with the exception of chapter 4, "if Abraham is our Father." This is one of the most notable chapters in the book, offering an excellent treatment of Holy War in Ancient Israel. Other chapers of note include "The Political Axioms of the Sermon on the Mount", a section of Scripture not emphasized in The Politics of Jesus and "Christ, the Light of the World" which features an incisive christological critique of Just-War Theory.

All in all, this is one of the best collections of essays on Christian Pacifism that one could hope to read. Any Christian wrestling with these important issues should definiately read this book.

John Howard Yoder's collection of essays in "The Original Revolution" approaches the topic of religious pacifism on many fronts. It is a disjointed grouping, a fact which Yoder readily admits in his introduction, but it thereby allows for a fuller treatment of his convictions.

OVERVIEW: The book is divided into two sections. The first deals with Biblical perspectives of war and peace. From the political options which the inauguration of Jesus' kingdom might have taken to Yoder's discussion of the continuity of the Bible's teachings on war from the Old Testament to the New, this section remains firmly rooted in the Biblical witness and delves deeply into the world of the text.
The second section then deals with the ramifications of the first. Once the church has accepted a nonresistant Jesus, what will she do with him? Yoder suggests that we should proudly claim the position of Jesus, not because it is efficacious, but because it is obedient to Jesus' witness. The claim that "Jesus is Lord" is also the claim that "we are not." As such, it is no longer our place to see that history works out in the way we see fit (the self-conception of Christianity since Constantine), but rather simple obedience to Jesus, and thereby, a forceful proclamation of his gospel, his revolution.

"The Original Revolution" provides a vision of Yoder's view on pacifism, from its origin to its manifestation. It challenged my traditional views on war and led to greater reflection on the claim not only of Jesus' teaching, but also of his life.
