What an inspiration this book has been to me. I often begin my quite times using it as a devotional to get my mind focused. The words brought encouragement, hope, tears and laughter!

Dr Janda performed surgery on my should a couple of years ago. He's an incredibly talented and caring individual who's extremely passionate about helping others by preventing sports injuries. His book is easy to read, incredibly interesting and insightful into big issues in health care, and is 100% from the heart.

The story of Roger Hall (inventor of the Lego type breakaway baseball / softball base) is amazing for both his challenges and persistence. Roger lost a friend after a freak sliding injury resulted in death (due to complications). Roger spent the next eight years working to create a breakaway base that would reduce the chance of injury. When he finally had a working design, he found he could not manufacture and market the base himself. He teamed up with a manufactuer who then did not promote the product. He then broke ties with this manufacturer and tried to have the bases made overseas, but the original manufacturer blocked the tooling to create the bases. The book dives into the reasons why a major sports equipment maker would neglect to produce a safer baseball base, why the insurance industry doesn't get involved to reduce its medical expenses, and why professional and college teams do not demand safer equipment. The story is incredibly interesting!

This is an essential book for parents and weekend sportsmen, an inspirational book for anyone who has ever believed in or fought for a cause, and a good story for just about everybody. It is also a good mystery: why haven't the recommendations of Dr. Janda and the Institute for Preventative Sports Medicine been widely implemented nationally? It seems like a no brainer: the recommendations don't seem to interfere with the enjoyment of the sports, they have been proven to dramatically reduce injuries, and they greatly reduce health care costs. The recommendations seem to make everybody happy. What's the problem? Read the book to find out. I may be prejudiced because Dr. Janda saved my arm, but I loved this book and so has everyone to whom I have given it. I even have something to tease Dr. J about next time I see him: initially entertaining the thought for even a brief second that he had a prayer of taking sliding out of softball.

This book is absolutely Magnificent! This book is great for anybody! I fully encourage you to read this book! All coaches everywhere should have it! So, now go out there and buy the heck out of it!!!

Melody Beattie is the author of CODEPENDENT NO MORE, the book that sold millions of copies the world over and made the word "codependent" a household word. Melody defines codependency as a state where you believe your happiness comes from a specific person, and then you become obsessed with controlling that other person. Very often, but not always, codependents find themselves in relationships with alcoholics, drug addicts, or people with other kinds of self-destructive compulsive habits and addictions. Inevitably, the codependent will become obsessed with trying to get their addicted spouse or "special person" off of that substance. The problem with this, however, is that the codependent does not see that they *themselves* have a problem for being constantly attracted to people who do not want to be helped; also, the codependent often *needs* to be needed and derives their self-esteem from being needed, which would explain the attraction to addicts (never mind the fact that addicts usually give up their addictions only when they themselves want to).

So, since codependents often find themselves involved with addicts, it is rather fitting that Melody Beattie has adapted the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous for aid in recovery from codependency and has written CODEPENDENTS' GUIDE TO THE 12 STEPS. Many of the steps of recovery from codependency are very similar to recovery from any addiction, including alcoholism, so not much has had to be altered in this adaptation. To my recollection, only the wording of the "first step" has been slightly changed, wherein the codependent does not admit to powerlessness over alcohol, but rather powerlessness over other people. Melody highlights each Step with examples and stories from her own experience as a counselor, and her way of telling stories is always very succinct, sincere, and non-condemnatory. Another helplful thing is that this book contains an index of many books and guides that are helpful for the person in recovery, including addresses to the different 12 Step organizations.

This book is an essential tool for anyone wanting to work on their codependency, especially those of us who have worked the 12 Steps before. I related greatly to what Melody Beattie states in the introduction: The 12 Steps of AA helped relieve her obsession to drink and use, but her codependency issues remained until she applied the Steps to her codependency issues. That short sentence explained exactly where I was in my life when I came across this book. Now that I'm not just working the 12 Steps around my alcoholism and addiction, but also working the 12 Steps around codependency, I've been given a new freedom that I never knew was possible. Now, I'm not just a grateful alcoholic, I'm a grateful codependent!

This book both inspires us and provides us with direction in our lives. The author writes in such a gentle and inspiring way that you can not help but gather up your courage to break out of the chains that bind you to your past. The book also gives us very useful step by step guidelines about what we should do to grow out of the suffocating psychological walls we have built for ourselves. It is a fantastic book for anyone wanting to free themselves from their internal issues and move on with their lives! If you are interested in the theory of how all of this works, read "The Ever-Transcending Spirit" by Toru Sato! It is an absolutely fantastic book that explains the psychological process that creates these negative states as well as the psychological process that enables us to grow out of them. These are the books that are presently guiding me to more and more freedom and happiness these days! I hope they do the same for you!

People keep redesigning health care delivery systems when they should be helping nurses to gain the thinking skills needed to succeed in today's workplace. This is definitely the best, applied book on critical thinking in nursing. Grabs your attention and helps you connect with natural talents. Also gives strategies to maximize your potential to think critically. Should be on every students'and nurses'must read list.

Roz's mind and personality inform the books she writes with vitality and a basis in on-the-floor empathy. I have worked with Roz on her books and she teaches me, the lay person while she uses all in her vast experience to make the book ultimately readable and useful. I enjoy reading it just to learn about thinking and practicing ones profession!

It is a pleasure to review Roz's book on Critical Thinking in Nursing. I am most impressed with her ability to "compartmentalize" the learning about the concept of critical thinking in nursing without reducing this to a task. Roz provides the reader with multiple perspectives, critical thinking exercises, and text boxes with "jewels" of information that elaborate, further articulate, illustrate, or clarify the concepts she is discussing. The author further provides exceptional structure for each chapter through "chapter at a glance", learning outcomes, and a prechapter self-test. This is an appropriate resource for all nurses beginning to explore, understand, and apply the concept of critical thinking to their evolving nursing practice. Finally, it is a great review tool for practicing nurses; to "remind" them of the inherent bias that becomes integrated into our practice if we do not apply these concepts continually and diligently every day.

As an author of a book on a related subject (magnetic healing), I know firsthand how challenging it is to write in a user-friendly fashion about the complex subject of electromagnetic fields and their effect on health.

B. Blake Levitt's extraordinary commitment of time and effort has resulted in a work that makes this complex subject easy to understand. Not only has she succeeded in explaining the untoward health effects of EMFs, but she also gives her readers a look into the complex political and commercial forces that have led to our current state of affairs.

Faced with the potential of a cell phone tower being placed directly overhead in my high-rise apartment building, I used Ms. Levitt's book as a study guide and subsequently consulted her for additional background information. I have no doubt that this information was key in holding off the installation of the tower.

This book is a "must read" for anyone concerned about EMFs -- and everyone should be!

I am a research scientist with a background in psychosocial epidemiology who became interested in the impact of electromagnetic waves on physical, mental and emotional health when I was confronted with applications to construct telecommunications towers in our newly adopted home town. My ideas and information from physics courses were both rusty and dated. Moreover, in postgraduate work I had learned enough about environmental impacts on fetal and child development, neurological functioning, and sleep cycle disruption to be concerned. I wanted to efficiently come up to speed on theories about the waves' effects and peer-reviewed data that tested those theories. Ms. Levitt's book provided an extremely comprehensible and yet responsible orientation to the mechanisms by which electromagnetic waves operate, the research on their impact that was available as of its writing, and the political and economic influences of industry and governmental forces. PLEASE have her update it with the inclusion of the research of the last few years. Solid research findings are supporting her arguments at an escalating rate and they deserve to be disseminated. The public health hazards of unmonitored electromagnetic waves (especially in the rapidly proliferating rf frequencies) are real and an educated public is our best protection against their potential damage.

B. Blake Levitt makes the scientific and medical aspects of electromagnetic fields easily accessible to those of us who are not scientists or physicians. Most fascinating was her insightful chapter "What Your Doctor Doesn't Know and Why." She also traces persuasive evidence of links between EMFs and 20th century ailments such as chronic fatigue syndrome, Alzheimer's Disease, and cancer. ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS distills a vast amount of research alerting us to health dangers. It also offers specific suggestions to reduce the impact of EMFs in our homes, workplaces and communities. Our family has become better-informed consumers by relying on this book. Thank you Ms. Levitt for empowering your readers to gain control over an issue with increasing repercussions in all our lives.

When I was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and spent a lot of time researching the disease and its treatment, "Healthcare Online" was exactly the kind of book I needed but didn't have. It's clear and easy-to-use, though quite sophsticated in its research assistance, and very, very helpful in providing ways to separate out the valid information from the misleading or phony stuff. In the areas I researched intensively, it lists all the sources I eventually found for myself, plus some very useful sites I never discovered. I often counsel newly-diagnosed individuals with my disease and now will pass on this book as a gold mine for their own inquiries.

The web is like the Tower of Babble - jammed with information but difficult to sort out. This book is an invaluable guide to the many, often confusing, sources of online health information. Buy it. Use it. Profit from it.

I needed immediate information to help my mother cope with my Father who has Alzheimer's. I not only found organizations with information on Alzheimer's, but sources for my Mother (the caregiver) to contact for guidance and assistance.
Healthcare is rarely one issue. This guide can assist in the search for information on conditions, treatments as well as insurance and life stage issues -- all available on the Internet.

I was born with hydrocephalus which arrested itself without any shunts when I was a small child. However, I have been dealing with poor vision, misaligned eyes, poor coordination, and an unusual gait for my entire life. I thought I had a great deal of understanding about my condition but this book has been a godsend! Questions I have had all my life have been answered and just reading about my condition has given me a peace of mind I have not had up to this point. Chuck and Kellie are to be commended for the service they have given all of us in writing this book. Please read it even if you know of no one with the conditon. You will learn a great deal.

I find this to be a valuable resource for those diagnosed with hydrocephalus. My (formerly healthy) son became hydrocephalic at age 16, following removal of a brain tumor two years before. A VP shunt was placed. It lasted 4 months before clogging. Then 8 revisions in the next 9 months. Two months later, he had an appendectomy that was unnecessary, because what he REALLY had was an abdominal irritation/infection of the distal shunt catheter- When the catheter was removed from the abdomen, so was ALL the pain he had fought for three weeks, taking Dilaudid IV, and fearing the worst. Antibiotics were given, and three days later, the shunt was reinserted in the abdomen with no more problems, and we came home the next day!
Local family practice doctors misdiagnosed- they were confident it was his appendix, and that the continued post-op pain was gastric-related.
Upon arriving at my son's neurosurgeon's hospital, correct diagnosis and treatment began within 24 hours. His roommate's mother showed me this book. I sent my daughter to the bookstore that day. EVERYTHING I needed to know is in there- plainly described, easily understood, written by someone who has been there- it is a great, easy to read, resource for all ages of patients and anyone who wants to understand this condition. If we had had the book sooner, we would have immediately gone to the neurosurgeon, and all would have been resolved before many painful and needless tests were performed by well-meaning professionals. Neuro hospital staff told me it is impossible for them to tell us everything that can possibly go wrong with a shunt- I knew about shunt infections that originated in the brain, but no one told us that severe right side pain, with a temperature could be shunt-related- especially when it was obvious the shunt was working properly.
I don't want to scare you with my story, but rather an example you can learn from. Learn all you can, because everyone who takes care of you doesn't know about shunts-
I have now purchased 5 more copies of this book- gave one to my son's school for the staff library- (They were very grateful, because they have worked with my son for almost 4 years, and want to help, which means understanding) Two will go to the doctors who misdiagnosed, so maybe someone else won't go through what we did- the others, I will share with family/friends- whoever- This book contains all aspects of care/concern- As an RN, whose speciality is NOT the brain, I applaud the couple for writing this book, and want to spread the word that this is the only book you will need. Written in everyday language, with a dictionary in the back, it tells the truth and gives guidance, information, and support.

I've had Hydrocephalus for 27 years, all my life. Until recently I thought I completly understood my condation. When I picked up this book, I found there was a lot more to it. It helps me to know what is going on inside my brain and helps me to know that I am not the only one. If you don't have Hydrocephalus, or know someone with it, you can't understand what it'sd like and the sheer frustration one who has it goes through. I hope other people pick up this book to gain an understaning of what those who have it go through on a day by day basis.

I can't believe that anyone let me start the process of infertility treatment (beyond the clomid stage) without telling me to read this. I found it on my own when having to decide whether my only chance to have a child, egg donation, was right for my husband and myself. I only WISH someone had told me about it sooner. It would have helped me think about all of "this" in a not so crazy way. It's technical, but, those of us who go through infertility procedures know more about the getting pregnant process than most books and online souces give us credit for. These authors treat us like intelligent human beings.

As an infertility specialist, I'd heartily recommend this book to all infertile couples - and their doctors as well. The forte of this book is the superb way in which emotional issues have been discussed.

My husband and I have been struggling with infertility for six years and have read several books on the subject. Choosing Assisted Reproduction is the most comprehensive, informative and challenging book that we have come across. We were both relieved to see that the authors raise some of the ethical questions that we are struggling with. They do so in a very sensitive way, always respecting the difficult choices that infertility patients face in this new world of baby making. I recommend this book to anyone going through infertility, as well as to their families and friends.

I read the second book first as I had to order this one. On the whole, this is a good book, and my uppermost thought is, I wish more souls on the "Other Side" would undertake more such books so that we could gain a more balanced perspective. This book (and it's companion) are very unusual as it is written from the perspective of one who has passed to the Other Side...a real treat! I am not aware of another such book which is written from the perspective of the soul on the Other Side.

Since what I have read to date have been books on past life regressions, prolific NDE accounts, and books by mediums and psychics about the Spirit Worlds and the Afterlife, much of the content of this book confirms what I have learned from the others. So I am encouraged, about its contents.

However, in fairness, I do have a few concerns. Foremost appears to be any perception on the part of the writer of reincarnation. It is not only NOT mentioned, but presented with the sterotypical view that we only live once on Earth and then live for eternity in the Spirit. This is in contradiction to all else I have learned.

The author is very verbose and has a tendency to overstate and add considerable text where less would have been sufficient...thus I found myself skipping text which was redundant or excessive.

The author had at times a very defensive tone, with his many, many references to our human ignorance (which I found lacking in spiritual understanding, as we are all born into this world ignorant of our true spiritual selves). I would have expected an author whose mission it was to enlighten us with the facts, less defensive, and at times, condemning of us here on Earth who struggle to make sense of life or what is to come hereafter. What humanity needs is more understanding, especially because we do NOT have the facts at hand of these higher truths.

I found it hard to be critical of such a wonderful, and unique attempt, and wish to not do injustice to these works...but rather encourage more souls on the Other Side, to contribute similar works, which in their entirety, would constitute more enlightenment for us all.

My singular impression overall, is a job well done, with some reservations of its content, as I have noted above. Both books, this one and its companion, are well worth the read! : )

This book just proves what I have been reading before.Written in a very colourful language, easy to understand. Very powerful!! Gives you a piece of mind and hope.
I encourage you to read this book and compare to your own knowledge of the Spirit World and its laws.

If you ever feared the after life, then this book may answer many concerns you might have. It gave me a sense of hope, and something wonderful to look forward to. While reading the book, I felt a kindship with the protagonists, and a friendship that transcends time, and spiritual limitations.

Do yourself a favor, pick up a copy of the book, and enter a new dimension in your life.

Brenda Waggoner writes as if she is talking to you on a personal level. She openly and honestly takes you on a passage from experienced trauma to hope in just 200 pages of quick read. Once you've read the book...you go back and savor a little more slowly the journey of becoming "real". Waggoner invites the reader to come to an understanding that unconditional love can transform us from what we have become to what, surely, is a more pleasing state of mind, body , and soul. She invites us to become real...the type of "real" that we were intended to be. As you read the Velveteen Woman, you will wipe the tears from your eyes as you enjoy the warmth that suddenly surrounds you. You will find yourself wanting to be a better friend, a better mate, a better person. I'm going to read it again.

Brenda what a pleasure to read your book. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself. Realizing that God loves us unconditionally is very hard for some people to believe. You bring this to us on a level that we understand and makes us eagar to become REAL.

I've read this book about three times in the two years I've known about it and it has truly changed me. My daily prayer has become, "Jesus, make me Real!" Brenda Waggoner vulnerably and artfully lays out the path to Real for readers and everyone I know who has read it has come away with a new perspective. She sprinkles Real stories throughout and her format is such that you won't want to put it down. The addition of "The Velveteen Rabbit" quotes makes it even deeper and each one fits so perfectly with, as Ms. Waggoner says, how we as women can become Real through God's transforming love.
