The Decline of American Medicine : Where Have All the Doctors Gone?

Everyone should read this book!!
This is a well written and thought-out explanation of the definite decline of American Medicine. I started reading and could not put the book down until I had finished. Dr. R. has written in good lay-language to really clarify and explain this awful mess. I am 75 years old and worry about the years I have left, but I worry so much more about my children's older years. It is a dismal outlook. I hope that someone can wave a magic wand to help this situation and bring back the "family doctor".
Dr. R was my family doctor for many years before we moved out of the state and we saw how frustrated he was because he could no longer practice medicine from his heart and mind. I will do anything I can to try to bring back real medical care.

On the Mark
Dr. Michael Rosenblum has taken the time to clearly detail the problems confronting our medical care system today and in the near future. This is a must-read book. I wonder why the national press has not picked up on this very informative and enlightening book. Where are the commentators when we need them?

Potent little book - required reading!
Dr. Rosenblum gets it all right here. Preserving excellence in health care for future generations will demand a serious soul search, particularly on the part of insurance carriers and other 3rd parties (including trial lawyers). The brightest and best students are loathe to study medicine because they cannot afford the education/sacrifice, and afterwards they cannot afford the spiraling overhead and risk of practice. Primary care medicine has indeed been thrashed. The doctor lays down his message with brilliant clarity. Fine suggestions are made (so don't give up hope). This potent little book is required reading.

A Million Dollar Movie for sure--Why isn't on the NYTimes
This book is so well written and would be such a great
commercial success if it were made into a movie. This
writer expresses what is going on in our society and how
it feels to be a single mother and what one encounters and
she expresses it like poetry........fantastic.....beautifully.
THIS SHOULD BE MADE INTO A MOVIE.

Great stories - easy read
I borrowed this book from my sister because I wanted an easy read for my beach vacation. I ended up reading it in one sitting! I was surprized I was so quickly absorbed into the lives of the characters and related so well to them because I'm not a single mother nor a mother at all. It was much better then the usual vacation book not only because I enjoyed it more but I was thinking about the characters afterwards. I recommend it highly. I hope they make it into a movie and I look forward to reading another of her books!

Great read
I am not a single mother nor a mother of any kind but I loved this book. I bought it for a beach vacation because a friend of mine told me about it. I ended up reading it in one sitting because it was such an easy and entertaining read. I was surprized because I was really absorbed by the characters (a teenage girl and even the older woman with AID's)and there were moments where my eyes filled with tears which I didn't expect. It would make a great movie. I hope she writes another one!

a gift
I bought this book for both my beloved stay-at-home-mom sisters for Mother's Day.

They both LOVED it. Rave reviews.

One sister recieved this book after a whole night up with a teething baby -- she cried she was so happy to get it; it gave her a lot of peace and "a new breath of fresh air".

I reccomend it.

Welcome to new babies
This book was so great that our church has ordered copies to be sent out to new babies in the area with a welcome to the world letter. We chose this after reviewing about 15 different books It's an easy read with joy and tears for busy new mothers. Terrific book!

Simple Truths that Encourage and Lift You Up
I received this book from my mother when my daughter was born almost 5 years ago. She gives such incredible encouragement and simple truths to living a Christian life. I have certain pages marked that I go back to from time to time when I feel like I need to be reminded of the kind of mother and person God created me to be. Absolutely a must have for old and new Christian mothers.

A Different Kind of Strength: Rediscovering the Power of Being a Woman
Published in Hardcover by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (July, 2001)
Authors: Beverly Lahaye and Janice Shaw Crouse
Amazon base price: $18.99
Average review score:

They were just like us!
Frightened, tired, not understanding. Facing impossible situations without a map, not knowing what to do. Struggling through their heartbreaks - and triumphs. In the midst of it all, finding a strength beyond themselves. Discovering on a personal basis the presence of an eternal God involved in their lives. . . and, when looking back and pondering all that had happened, seeing His footprints walking beside them each step of the way.

Beverly Lahaye and Janice Shaw write about five women from Bible times, putting flesh upon the skeleton of words, breathing life into the forms. Only women who have, themselves, walked through uncharted territory and discovered the faithfulness of God in their own lives could bring these Bible characters to life.

These two authors have done a wonderful job of doing just that!
This is a book I will keep to read again!

REAL Women!
A Different Kind of Strength delves into the lives of the five women listed in Matthew's genealogy of Jesus. Crouse and LaHaye have written an insightful and intriguing book about these women-their weakness and their strengths. The naming of these five women of all the women who contributed to the lineage of Christ has always intrigued me. Among them are liars, harlots, pagans, schemers and such. Sound familiar!? Right! They are as we and therein lies hope and help for us all.

This Book Can Change Your Life
"A Different Kind of Strength" is a different -- and wonderful --kind of book. In a novel and powerful way, it retells the stories of five biblical heroines, and shows how God worked through the strengths and weaknesses of each one. From these unforgettable women, we learn the power -- not of perfection -- but of faith, hope, obedience, courage and wisdom. This book can provide guidance to all of us struggling to live well, and do right, in a fallen world.

Do You Think I'm Beautiful?
This is an excellent book and easy to read, except that it touches so many of the questions in a woman's heart, that you have to stop and reflect and dry your eyes often. Angela Thomas has dared to voice out loud the longings and questions that most women hold in their heart, maybe for all of their lives. The desire to be cherished and thought beautiful underscores so much of what we do (and don't do) as women. Angela doesn't only ask the question, but provides a resounding answer that brings us face to face with the only one who can answer honestly. I think this is a "must read" for women of all ages and especially teenage girls. I wish I had read it thirty years ago. It could have made a big difference in my life a long time ago.

Life-changing..a must read!
This book is truly life-changing. It was recommended to me by my counselor, and it really deals with the search every woman has for love. We look to our husband, children, family, or job to provide the love and fulfillment that only He can provide. If you've been busy striving and trying to do everything, yet you still aren't satisfied, this book is for you. I think every woman should read it.

Incredible.
This book has been absolutely uplifting. It has opened my eyes to the truths that God has been wispering in my ear for years. I am beautiful in his eyes. With that, nothing else matters. Angela's excellent way of writing makes things real and understandable. She is honest, and addresses all of the things that we are afraid to. What if God doesn't say that he loves me? What if I am left alone forever? But the truth is that he will never leave us. He will always love us. Thank you so much Angela for being a vessle and allowing God to speak through your words!

Get the best hospital care for yourself or loved one
This book is easy to read and loaded with practical advice I only wish I'd known in advance. Simple steps show you how to be your best advocate. Enjoyable reading.

Dr. David Sherer's Hospital Survival Guide
No one wants to spend time in the hospital. But if you have to (and most of us do at some point), your stay will be safer and more bearable if you are armed with the wit and wisdom of this good doctor. The book is organized so that you can easily find and read information on subjects of interest without having to read the whole book (although it is well written enough that you will probably find yourself browsing back from or ahead of whatever you started to read, and are likely to find that you've read the whole thing pretty soon anyway). The information is clearly and succinctly presented, and the book's coverage is comprehensive. An excellent book , and, one hopes, not the last Dr. Sherer will write.

A Benevolent Insider
Dr. David Sherer's book is an insider's view on hospital hierarchy and procedures, a veritable "guide to the perplexed" for patients.

Dr. Sherer seeks to defuse the fears and forebodings prior to hospitalization - that threatening web of unfamiliar people, frightening equipment, and assault on privacy that is not only necessary but inevitable.

What may seem obvious to a doctor may be enlightening to a frightened patient or family member. Offering technical information, behavioral observance, and anecdote, the information is accessible and is replete with condensed case histories. Dr. Sherer has done a good job of anticipating what questions may arise, and of offering answers. Also helpful, he cites resources for further information, from the web or from publications and organizations.

This reader learned about the importance of carrying basic medical information in one's wallet (I have a rare blood type, for example) and the wisdom of keeping a living will. The concept of "Patient Advocate" was enlightening, as was the revelation that, as a patient, one can speak up if discomfort seems unnecessary - hospital protocol need not be entirely rigid.

Dr. Sherer, in this book, is offering good advice for increasing the safety and comfort level of any hospital stay. Significantly, he doesn't attempt to impress the reader with long-winded verbiage, but relays essentials in plain language.

As good as it gets
Bob Welch destroys the myth that most Christian books are fluff....this is quality writing by the best writer in the Christian market today....one of the finest writers in the secular field as well....

"An Author for ALL Readers"
I read this book in one sitting -- I couldn't put it down! Using the analogy of the changing seasons, Welch takes us through a journey of parenting that is insightful and meaningful for both men AND women. Through his remarkable ability to place the reader smack dab in the middle of the story, he weaves a tapestry of heartfelt and humorous events and memories drawn from his experiences and "seasoned" with the recollections of others. From the all too familiar ritual of hanging Christmas lights to the depths of loss and forgiveness, the reader embarks on a journey full of tears and laughter. At the end, we can't help but contemplate our own stories of family and life while anxiously scanning the Internet for more books by this talented and inspiring writer!

Must reading for all Dads
Bob Welch has done an excellent job of describing in story form the journeys of men, boys, and fatherhood. One paragraph has you laughing, the next can have you in tears. As you remember your childhood growing up, Bob also reminds you what is like to be a father and to watch your children break away and gain their freedom. This is a must-read book for anyone who is serious about being a Dad. Also nicely done is his easy-going witness of his Christian faith. You will not be disappointed with this book.

The Best Anthology
God Allows U-Turns: A Woman's Journey is heartening experience. I would recommend reading onr or two stories a day as a part of your devotions or have one as a bedtime snack. They are an encouraging reminder of God's love for us, no matter what.

A Treasure
What a treasure! I've just started reading, "A Woman's Journey". Women everywhere share the same hopes and dreams. I feel a real connectedness with the women in these stories. I celebrate their triumphs, share their sorrows, and learn life lessons. A rare gift that continues to give hope and heal the broken.

**HOPE, FAITH & LOVE**
I just finished reading the third book in this series. The true stories in this book were filled with such hope. These ordinary people showed me what real faith and love was all about. I was deeply touched. I had to have many tissues handy while reading this one. I'm looking forward to buying several copies of this one for family and friends for Christmas. This volume really reaches out to woman of all walks of life. I related to many of these stories. I can't wait for Volume four to come out at the end of the month. (Aug, 2002) American Moments.

Daddy, Where Were You?: Healing for the Father-Deprived Daughter

When Dad Doesn't Act Like Dad
This is a great Christian perspective on how to deal with the emotional scars that absentee, abusive, etc. fathers have left on their daughters. I needed to read what was contained in that book; it gave me good ideas on how to deal with my own family situation. The author lets women know that they can have the courage to move on and not let the past failings of dads who couldn't and/or wouldn't be there for them cloud their lives.

Powerful!
I don't know why this book is out of print - it had a profound impact on me and everyone I lent it to. It addressed so many painful issues in my life that were directly related to my relationship with my father. It explained why I feel the way I do about so many things, and released tears that had been dormant inside me for so many years. Read this if, for one reason or another, you didn't have a "daddy" - it hurts to read it, but brings you toward healing. And there's no other book quite like it.

Daddy is home...
I bought this book for my wife who has been struggling with this subject since childhood, and it has changed her life. Father God be praised!

Spine tingling
Horror is not usually my choice but after our local paper featured this first time author, I had to purchase it. My whole family read it and it kept us all awake nights Very supernatural horror, not graphic violence so even if it is not your normal genre, give it a try!

This book was encreadible!
The story line in this story has so many twists and turns that I never wanted to put it down. The author does a great job of character development, and the imagery that he creates in your head is frightening but enticing at the same time. This is a must read book.

An amazing accomplishment for a first-time author!
This "spiritual thriller" is the type of story that grabs you from the very beginning and deosn't let go until the shocking conclusion. Usually, I tend to be a rather lazy reader in that I will take a few weeks to finish a book but, in this case I found myself picking it up whenever I had spare time. This "Dean Koontz-esque" story begins with a family that is haunted by an evil force that is unlike any horror I could ever imagine or would want to for that matter. Throughout the book this evil "force" is elusive and seemingly omnipotent. What this first-time author does is take the conventional concept of Hell and twist it into, as the title suggests, a Hell that is cold and dark.
