Healing tears
This is a tiny book with a big heart. The author tenderly shares her journey through grief with us, as she shares illuminating Bible passages, and pages from her journal, as she slowly heals from the death of her husband. I am not a widow, but bought this book for two recently widowed friends, and they both loved it. The author's insights are helpful when dealing with any loss, which everyone will face eventually.

He Gathers Your Tears
What an encouraging and honest book - Ms. Moore's candidness is refreshing and helpful - She doesn't provide the reader with trite sayings or empty cliches, but rather, tells her own story and backs it up with helpful scriptures to meet each need. I have never seen such a clever idea for a book, either. This is a "must have" for anyone who has ever suffered any loss. It definately rates 5 stars!!

He Gathers Your Tears by Phylis Moore
This little book is a real nugget for your Christian bookcase, and one you will turn to repeatedly. In heartbreaking, pithy, "real" language Phylis Moore openly shares her grief, allowing the reader to hold one's breath when realizing her pain, to cry with her, and to see her reach for and take in the hope and promises and comfort our Lord God so lovingly offers His children. With love, Phylis willingly opens her raw, bleeding heart to the reader, knowing the benefit and healing it will bring. This quick-read will be read often by both the newly hurting and the caring Christian worker who seeks to comfort and better understand the pain a newly widowed person is going through.

I found this book to be truly informative, spiritual, and humorous. My Aunt always tells me that God has the answers to all our problems. Well, the good Doctor has convinced me! Dr. Eaker uses the bible to show us that God does have a plan in PMS andMenopause. This is one of my favorite quotes from the book; it is the twenty-third Psalms, from the bible, with a little Eaker touch!"The Lord is my shepherd: I have everything I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; (even with hot flashes) He leads me beside peaceful streams. (in the middle of night sweats) He renews my strength. (when fatigue takes over) He guides me along right paths, brining honor to his name. (shows me options) Even when I walk, through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. (depression cannot rule me) Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. (herbs and vitamins too) You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. (flaxseed, Chamomile) My cup overflows with blessings. (At least I am here to experience Menopause, the other option is not so great) Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days Of my life, And I will live in the house of the Lord forever. (wrinkles and all)One thing I really liked about this book is the fact that the author fully expects us to get as much knowledge on our health and to act on it. He does not expect us to use himself as our sole source of information. He is quick to point out that WE control our way ofthinking. Some restructuring of how we think could alleviate a big portion of the symptoms associated with PMS and Perimenopause. I have always thought along these lines, but never seemed to fully achieve my goals. Dr. Eaker tells us how. He shows us some very realistic goals, and how to best achieve them, by taking them one at a time! Dr. Eaker understands that we cannot make all lifestyle changes in over night, and that we need to take them step-by-step.Dr. Eaker is quick to offer advice on methods to dealing with PMS and menopause, be it hormonal therapy or herbs, diet, and our spiritual well-being. He is a wealth of information on other sources to gather the information we seek, the bible, other publications, and of course the Internet, with some sites provided.Thank you Dr. Eaker for helping me to see the things that were just beyond my view, and teaching me what I need to do to help myself through PMS and later, the glory that can be found in menopause.

A great book for women
This is a truly unique book in the world of PMS and Menopause. Ron has done an excellant job of explaining, from a biblical perspective as well as very balanced and sound medical insight, that there is a way around experincing all of the moans and groans of this changing "season" in all women's lives. If only more women knew that there were alternatives to the "it's time to take hormones" regime which seems to be so prevalent in today's world this world would be better off. He emphasizes what diet and lifestyle changes will do to improve so many of the problems associated with PMS and Menopause. He also shares wonderful and much needed information in the area of working with the body as well as trying natural herbs and supplements BEFORE resorting to drugs. His emphasis on the healing power of prayer is being proven today in many medical studies ... finally! Please, please buy this book if you care about your health! It will help you!

Menopause help!
This is an excellent book and I recommend it highly! This book is well worth the money & time to read. This is not just another "menopause" book but rather describes this transition in a positive light -- using diet, exercise, alternative approaches, & prayer to achieve wellness. I have found it very helpful dealing with perimenopause & PMS.

just WOW !!!!!!!
As a young man knowing that being a man is so much more than just watching football and doing the daily masculine things, I was greatly encouraged and challenged to fulfill my role as a man, in every sense of the word. T.D. addresses the surface and underlying issues in manhood that most men don't talk about. I've been charged to excel in my development as a Christian man so that I can accomplish what God has for me, so I can be the husband I will have to be, and so I can be the father I will have to be. I've passed this book on to numerous guys I know, and all of them have the same reaction and renewed sense of what it is to be a man. Be blessed by it.

"Words of Wisdom for Men Young and Old"
This book is an excellent source for you if you wish to understand to a greater degree exactly what kind of man God has called you to be. Mr. Jakes is awesome! He is the epitome of what a man should look like on the outside, but at the same time he is a gentle, meek, caring and humble man of God. The book gives tips for men in marital situations and also gives advice for pre-marital experiences. If more men would read this book and understand what Mr. Jakes teaches, we would then begin to see stronger families and a better world. It must be made evident that Mr. T.D. Jakes speaks with authority, wisdom and truth! He deserves credit for the information he provides for us Christians.

excellent, inspirated by God.

A Pharmacist has an "Aha Moment!"
I began working in pharmacy in the late 1960's. I helped dispense drugs at a retail drugstore in my home town and I did the same in the largest hospital in Chicago. I kept it up at another hospital and then started "doing" it on my own when I opened my retail store in 1983. I read the manufacturers' package inserts and I followed the prescriptions as they were ordered - and I noticed that many people had problems with the "recommended" dose. Sometimes they got used to the dose and sometimes it had to be changed. In any event, the recommended dose was not always accurate accurate - it was often dangerously WRONG.

I don't know what I thought about all the problems with prescription drugs. I guess I just presumed the patients were overly sensitive, or just unlucky. I didn't often think too much about it - until I became aware of Dr. Jay Cohen and his "Case Against the Drug Companies." His shocking book is called "OVER DOSE" and it describes in good detail the dangers of relying on the manufacturers' package inserts to prescribe drugs.

This is an "eye opener" book and it angers me. How is it that we have this overriding desire to place the bottom line above decent care for health? There are some great things happening in medicine - all around the world. But I think that all the good can be quickly undone by hanging on to a misguided philosophy that insists that profits trump everything else. Its time for a change and Dr. Cohen is part of the changing process. I promise to do my part for change. One thing is to expose potential problems (like Dr. Cohen has done) and another is to encourage people to think about the issues (that's my goal). Please get a copy of this book. Read it and then think about what it really means. When we reach a critical mass changes will happen. You can bank on it! (pun intended)

Everyone should read this book!
Finally, someone has put into print an accurate and factual picture of what the drug manufacturing industry does to place profits way ahead of patient benefit and safety. Anyone who takes prescription medications should read this book. Maybe it gets a little too technical in spots for people not in the health professions, but there is plenty of excellent information and suggestions to make this a very valuable reference for consumer-oriented patients.
I am a doctoral-level clinical pharmacist, and I found myself in agreement with most all of what Dr. Cohen has written and recommended in this book. This should be required reading for every practicing physician, medical student, pharmacist, and nurse in the country. Medical schools should add this to their curriculum for all of our doctors-to-be to read before they take their pharmacology course and start their clinical training.

FDA and PMA Foibles Exposed
A valuable theme disclosing inadequate testing by the drug companies and woeful evaluations by the FDA of prescription drugs. The main thesis is well-taken: lower doses of many drugs could minimize side-effects, including death. Actually does not go far enough in exposing all the major drug classes that do not increase lifespan at all!

A Knock at Midnight: Inspiration from the Great Sermons of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.

These 11 historic sermons--some complete recordings of entire addresses, others reconstructed from various church services--make plain why Martin Luther King Jr. considered his "first calling and greatest commitment" to be a preacher of the gospel. As an orator he is second to none, drawing his audience in with an urgency that resonates through every soaring cadence of his familiar, powerful voice. Using insights from psychology, philosophy, and the Bible, he appeals to the heads as well as the hearts of his congregations, explaining that personal and social change can only be effected by adopting a morality of love in service of God and humankind. While King's concern for social justice is a common theme throughout, each sermon is a jewel of literary artistry, as it presents a simple problem, examines its complications, and offers a startling and often challenging resolution. Topics range from "Rediscovering Lost Values," a caution that scientific progress without moral progress can result only in a step backward for humanity, to "An American Dream," a wake-up call to the "self-evident truth" of equality proclaimed in the Constitution.

Brief introductions to the sermons from spiritual leaders and friends, including Dr. Joan Campbell, Billy Graham, Dr. Robert Franklin, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, offer personal insights into King's life, work, and legacy. An interesting note from the producers explains how the recordings of the sermons (published in a hardcover companion of the same name) were pieced together. In word and in voice, these are masterpieces of theological literature from one of the world's great orators, who Robert Franklin rightly says may well be "the greatest religious intellectual of the twentieth century." (Running time: 8 hours, 6 cassettes) --Uma Kukathas

Average review score:

King still inspires
Forget about the sweet-toned, hagiographic introductions and organ play at the beginning of each sermon and you've got 6 cassetes with remarkable good and lively preaching. The sermons of the early King and the rather boring sermon on the American dream excluded you've got some retorical outstanding sermons like 'Love your enemies' and 'Why Jesus calls a man a fool'. Listening to King makes me wonder where this acute relevance of the gospel has gone...and how we can get this vigor back.

A Profound Message
The sermons in A Knock at Midnight are both deeply moving and a powerful reminder of the greatness of Dr. King. This collection should be read and heard by everyone, especially the young of today who have been fed a Dr. King who somehow only delivered one speech ("I Have a Dream"). As a middle school teacher I found the sermons to be an excellent way for my students to move beyond the platitudes about Dr. King to a much deeper understanding of his life and ministry. To read and listen to these great sermons is an absolutely wonderful experience, but at the same time a sad reminder that today we have no great voice of moral authority like his. Fortunately we do have his words and voice preserved for us and our children.

I wish I could give this EXPERIENCE 10 stars!
Notice I refer to the cassettes and the companion book as an EXPERIENCE as I both listened to and read the REVEREND King! Although the media focused on the visible part of his ministry, the civil rights movement, his sermons are profound and awesome in their implications for today as well as their in their powerful delivery during the mid-1950's through 1960's. Although I will cherish both the cassette series and the book, it is through hearing the SPEAKING of Dr. King that really made me breathless! Thank you LORD God for sending us your messenger Dr. King to give us a wonderful earthly ministry for a brilliant and brief time (much like Jesus Christ). Simply awesome!

Simply Awesome -- and a Fantastic Value, Too
It's expensive. And not for everyone. And to own it and enjoy it requires time and energy, with a substantial payoff in the form of a richer, deeper existence on our planet Earth.

Am I talking about a Porsche? Yes, but also about Karl Ludvigsen's latest written masterpiece, Excellence was Expected. Simply put, this book is worth every penny, and more. Here's my advice:

If you like Porsches, get this book.

If you know someone who likes Porsches, get them this book.

Get this book for that design afficionado you know -- even if they're not into cars.

Excellent
Awesome book. Everything you could ever want to know about the company and it's cars. Very high quality and excellent writing. Buy this book, it's worth the money!

Three Volume, 2003 Edition of Excellence Was Expected
The first edition, in 1977, was acknowledged to be the benchmark of accurate information on Porsche cars. The second (2003) edition is more than a new expanded editon of the old book. There has been considerable new text material & photos added to the early chapters, which must be carefully read to be appreciated. Approx. half of this editon covers more recent production years, thus the 3-Vol. format. The depth of detail is amazing, & far exceeds the plethora of other books written in the last few years. The cost is somewhat intimidating, but after a close look, it is really comparitively inexpensive for the quality of the books & material therein.
For the layman it will exceed your expectations. For the knowledgable enthusiast, it is even more indespensible for reference than was the first editon.

Return to Wholeness : Embracing Body, Mind, and Spirit in the Face of Cancer

"Over the course of a lifetime, almost half of all North American men and nearly 40 percent of North American women will get cancer." Those petrifying statistics, and a profound interest in mind-body medicine, drew Dr. David Simon, director of the Chopra Center for Well Being, to write Return to Wholeness. Where most books on cancer focus on treatment for eradicating the disease, this book refreshingly combines Eastern and Western healing principles to focus on helping the whole person heal--emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Simon's book answers many questions that the newly diagnosed may have, among them, "How can I stimulate my inner healing response to maximize the benefit of my medical treatments? How can I be an active partner rather than a passive participant in my therapeutic journey?" It covers alternative therapies, including meditation, prayer, Ayurveda, journaling, visualization techniques, art and music therapy, and nutritional programs including vitamin, mineral, and phytochemical supplementation.

Return to Wholeness should be of special benefit to survivors living in constant fear or recurrence, or those who have had no obvious risk factors. "When a heavy smoker develops throat cancer, we may not question why his illness arose," Simon writes. "When someone [with excellent health habits] gets sick, our sense of order is threatened, and we search, often unsuccessfully, for some reasonable explanation. But, even if we cannot easily understand why someone's mind-body system allows cancer to arise, we can at any moment make choices to strengthen our immunity and improve our overall quality of life." --Erica Jorgensen

Average review score:

Required reading for anyone touched by cancer.
Dr. Simon's book addresses many of the issues that are so often not dealt with by modern conventional cancer treatment centers. Too often cancer patient feel as if their real needs are not being met by doctors and hospitals. Dr. Simon focuses on treating the person, not just the diseasse. His books creates an entirely new perspective for the cancer patient by simply remembering that they are a person. He addresses the emotional issues cancer patients face as well as treatments for common side effects caused by conventional treatment. His advice on nutrition, sensory tools for healing, and assessing alternative treatment modalities is easily succint, but very insightful. Futthermore, his five day seminar lets you explore these issues much deeper. Realizing that I am much more than the sum of my phsyical parts is an important gift that Dr. Simon has helped to give me.

Quality life with Cancer
This phenomenal book is a must have in a library of self-care literature. It reads easily and resonates with truth, leaving a profound impact. I recently returned from a week seminar with Dr. David Simon at the Deepak Chopra Wellness Institute in La Jolla,CA. My personal experience was transformational. I not only walked away with concrete, tangible tools to work with my cancer, I also deepened my relationship with myself and was taught many loving ways to embrace and empower myself through this difficult time in my life.

The nurturing environment was so safe and invitational to self-discovery of each individuals particular experience with cancer. I strongly recommend anyone facing cancer to invest in themselves with this wonderful program.

Comprehensive
Dr. Simon has shared insights into healing that take into account the coventional and integrative approaches to healthcare. He reminds us that we have entered into a phase of medicine that needs to consider a person's conscious awareness of health, so the appropriate modalities of care can be administered. David Simon utilizes eastern and western knowledge to make his work thorough and comprehensive. He takes into account the need for practicioners to be sensetive to the direction(s) a patient finds meaningful in their movement toward wholeness. This emphasis on consciousness incorporated in healthcare is a movement toward modern medicine paralleling the evolution of our time. I also recommend: What the Dying Teach Us: Lessons on Living by Samuel Oliver

parasite paranoia
I enjoyed the information in this book. It points out the numerous ways we are getting parasites inside our bodies, what they are doing to us, and how they affect us in so many ways.

What the author doesn't realize, however, that you can get rid of these parasites using minerals. Take one tablespoon of copper in the mornings, and in the afternoon you will take one tablespoon of zinc and one tablespoon of silver. These minerals must be angstrom sized, in liquid form, or it wont be effective. Copper kills parasites and makes them want to leave the body. Zinc and silver escort the dead carcasses out of the body for a complete "cleanse". It works as I've done this and I know many other people who have done this. Parasites have NO place in your bodies. They are destructive and you don't want them around!

Guess What Came to Dinner Saved My Life
All I can say is God Bless Ann Louise Gittleman. If it were not for this book that I brought with me into my physician's office, I would have never discovered that I had a chronic case of giardia. My doctor was dismissing my symptoms for the longest time and finally when I found Ann Louise's books, I realized that a parasitic infection can be misdiagnosed as flu, IBS, or even gall bladder disease. Now that I have taken the prescribed medication and am using Ann Louise's suggested natural herbs from Uni Key as a follow up, I am a new person. This book should be Mandatory reading for every high school student, college student and health minded individual in America.

Superb Coverage of a Disturbing Topic
I thought Ann Louise Gittleman did a wonderfully thorough job of exposing parasites in terms of where they come from, who gets them, and what we can do about it to prevent them. Her dietary information was right on in light of the current concerns about sugar and processed foods plus the herbal and homeopathic remedies really work. I think the overly sensitive reviewer from San Franciso should get with the program - This book tells it like it is and specifically states that parasites know no boundary regardless of gender, race, or economic level.

helpful to some, frustrating to others
The heart of this book is in the right place but it could be crippling for those of different temperaments than the writer. Those who often journal, make lists, and are comfortable with routines will find this book practical and encouraging. Spontaneous people and those who don't enjoy writing may feel like spiritual failures when the practices suggested come so unnaturally to them.

DeMoss SEEMS to limit spiritual growth to "quite times," leaving out the practices of servanthood and secrecy. She seems to overlook the value of stillness and waiting for the Lord, generally suggesting you fill your quiet time with activities.

In chapter 5, DeMoss presents a strong argument in favor of MORNING devotions. She presents numerous scriptures for support (the most convincing being Job's example). She does not address Mark 6:46-47 (afternoon prayer), Luke 6:12-13 (all-night prayer), Psalms 55:17, Daniel 6:10 (Three times a day), Psalms 88:1, Luke 18:1, 7-8, Deuteronomy 6:6-9, 11:18-21 (day and night). Those don't believe morning devotions are sacred and those who would do better at another time may feel unnecessary guilt from this chapter.

Chapter 9 is titled "Getting the Word into You." Showing her bias as a writer, every technique she suggests is based on various forms of writing. (There are lots of good ideas.) This chapter ends with an unusually overwhelming set of questions in which you are instructed to try EVERY method of study recommended to study Psalm 19.

DeMoss writes: "Of course, there's always a danger that a daily quiet time or any other spiritual discipline can deteriorate into a lifeless routine. But I have discovered that it is much easier to breathe life back into a dead routine than to get life there is no routine at all." (Pages 94-95) DeMoss' heart is in the right place. Her book is full of practical suggestions. The forward and the first two chapters are outstanding. The rest of the book will be helpful to some and frustrating for others.

Those seeking to practical suggestions for spiritual growth of a more spontaneous nature may enjoy The Life You've Always Wanted by John Ortberg.

Full of rare jewels!
Do you need a break? Do you need a refreshing? Stop what you are doing now and make a cup of tea and emerse yourself in the soothing book. It will aid you as you slow down from your fast-paced lifestyle. It will enable you to pause and rest.

I have read alot of devotionals and many books encouraging the reader to have quiet time with the Lord. But this one is the best yet! If you already have a daily established time set aside for you and the Lord, it will make you guard it even more. If you have not yet begun, you will be excited to do so and wonder why it has taken you so long!

Full of rare jewels, overflowing with treasures; reading this along with your journal is a must! You will not only record great finds from within the book, but also from within your relationship with the Lord!

Quintessential Teaching on the Quite Time
This is an excellent book from one of the great Christian women of our day. I have found this book so encouraging and instructive. Though it was written primarily for women, I have found great help in it. I think every Christian would benefit from the practical Biblical teaching that Nancy DeMoss gives. Very few, if any, leaves are left unturned. Extended time is given to issues such as obstacles to overcome, dealing with distractions, preparing our hearts for devotion, time in the Word, and both praise and prayer. Each chapter ends with a "Making It Personal" section, giving a list of application questions, and a testimony relating to the devotional life from other Christian women such as Elisabeth Elliot, Joni Erickson Tada, and Kay Arthur.

This book has added meaning to me, because I was on staff with Life Action Ministries for three years and know Nancy DeMoss personally. Her testimony regarding her father's consistency in daily devotions had an impact on me in 1994. I also remember her own personal testimony in 1995 when the Lord did a lot of the ground-breaking work in her life in this area (this book being one of the results!). She is a special Christian woman with a special message to ladies of this generation. Men, this would be a great gift for your wives! (Ladies, reading and applying this would be a great gift to your husbands!) Highly recommended!

Lots of Good Information, But Disorganized
I like many parts of this book and find those sections helpful after having two first-trimester miscarriages within six months. It is obvious Clara Hinton has lived much of what she writes about. However, I do not like, at all, the way the author intermingles miscarriage with all types of child loss. On one level, I can appreciate the approach that losing a child, born or unborn, is devastating. I find it distracting, though, to read a paragraph about miscarriage and then have to skim the next several paragraphs or pages until the next reference. The author also is somewhat repetitive... In addition, Hinton makes ongoing references throughout the book to certain situations by telling the stories a sentence or two at a time. It's maddening. One such instance was her sister, who died at a young age, and the other was the experience of a close family friend who lost a child. I felt like the author was stringing me along, besides the fact it was confusing trying to keep the specific situation straight. Finally, in a fit of frustration, I took a highlighter and re-read/skimmed the book so that I could mark the really very helpful sections that pertained to my situation. Also, the book contains no biography of the author. As a reader you learn, in the same "sentence here, sentence there" manner that she and her husband dealt with multiple miscarriages etc., but do have several living children. Nowhere, however, is this set forth with any clarity.

Simply wonderful author
This was required reading for a class I took. I was deeply moved by it. She shared her intermost feelings telling about her own grief and her own loss. She was also a guest speaker at this class. Clara Hinton is such a warm and caring person. Even if you haven't suffered the loss of a child this book can help you to help those that did. It made me cry, I truly had felt her loss. She really needs to go on the Oprah show.

This Book Will Change Your Life
Nobody can imagine what it is like to have a miscarriage or to lose a child. Friends may try to help you with nice little sayings or with cards, but they just don't understand what you are going through. And that is where this book comes in...

The author has gone through child loss and several miscarriages herself, so she actually knows what a grieving person is feeling. She helps the readers realize that they are not going crazy if they are feeling grief days, weeks, or months after the loss.

Hinton is an authority on this topic of grief and child loss, as can be seen from the thousands of people that visit her website (named after her book) daily for advice and encouragement.

This book has helped me more than I could ever express. As I read the book, I felt like the author was right beside me, encouraging me along the way. Parts of the book are difficult to read - as it brings forth so many painful memories and feelings. However, it helps the healing process so much.

I cannot say enough about this book. It is a MUST READ for anyone - man or woman - that has gone through the loss of a child or a miscarriage. Your only regret after buying this book will be that you didn't buy the book much sooner.
