Investor's Perspective on IPOs
IPOs bring clear advantages to companies--notably, access to capital without having to make future interest payments! And IPOs also bring value to institutional investors in search of new ways to diversify their portfolios. But what advantages do IPOs bring to individual investors, who have only limited investment funds? Why should I, as an investor, buy into a company's IPO, rather than buying into a stock that has already been trading on the market? How can I tell the quality of a particular IPO offering? What brokerage houses are sources for IPO purchases? How do they compare? What about buying into IPOs through mutual funds--how does that differ from a direct IPO purchase? This book answers all these questions in plain English with plenty of solid, current detail.

Profits, Taxes, & LLCs

A Different Approach
I gave Mr. Crouch 5 stars because it is obvious that he is not simply repeating the same old thing I can find in most other books relating to corporations and LLCs and their benefits. He walks you through most of the technical matters in a tutorial way, explaining the significance of different laws and what they say & don't say. He provides much food for thought that I found nowhere else. He is a breath of fresh air after reading extensively on these topics. This book should be on your shelf if you own, manage, or have a need to learn about LLCs.

Great application, Silver's formula of proprietary companies
A. David Silver has written many business books -- and most present his formulaic approach to evaluating (or starting) companies that have a proprietary advantage in the market place.

If you are going to start a company, or if you are going to invest in a company... you must get one of his books on this subject. This book provides a summary of that formula, and then applies that to stocks in existance at the time of its publication.

You couldn't ask for a better way to learn his method. About 1 year after I had read the book and talked about it to a friend, we went back and saw that his selections had done quite well.

Whether this is a great stock selection method remains to be objectively tested. But I believe his method of analyzing a company based on proprietary hold on a market... to be sound.

In general: buy anything by this author. I do.

Well-written, useful business resource!
"Translating Strategy into Shareholder Value" is a well-organized, clearly written guide to effectively evaluating the multitude of strategic alternatives available to an organization within the strategic planning process. With the maximization of shareholder value as the end goal, author Trotta introduces the original concept of Step-Wise Approach to Value (SWAV) to help companies achieve that goal. SWAV involves the application of four filters (economic, strategic, operational and valuation) through which strategic alternatives can be analyzed. A number of specific analytical tools such as the Porter Model, the DuPont model, Regression Analysis and Discounted Cash Flow are discussed in detail. I found it helpful that Trotta addresses not only the benefits of each of these tools, but the risks and limitations as well. This book would be a useful resource for financial decision-makers, business owners, students and anyone seeking concrete advice on making better strategic planning decisions.
