Excellent Intro to PMThe Cleland book is written for perhaps MBA or civil engineering students who will be looking at the planning and management of international scope projects. It is an encyclopedic book with epic scope but little nuts and bolts information. It might make a handy reference but is not real helpful to someone who needs to know the basic terms and concepts used by working project managers. The Gido and Clements book fits that bill and frankly I would recommend it to the MBAs and civil engineers too if they were new to PM.

Exogenous barriers to entry and market structureI liked the book because it tries to explain market structure using OBSERVABLE variables, because it tests the theory both via case study and via econometric methods and because it is full of innovative ideas. I want to mention in particular the way in which Sutton tackles the problem of multiplicity of equilibria, what he calls "the bound approach"
A few months ago Sutton published a companion book called Technology and Market Structure in which he carries over the same line of research to endogenous barriers to entry.

Good summary of management techniques and principlesFocusing primarily on the challenges of managing technical professionals, the author projects Theory Y into the age of flat flexible organizations. His discussions of informal organizations and concepts such as authentic (bottom-up) authority are interesting, but he seems to avoid anecdotal reasoning. This seems to be deliberate, but sometimes leads to redundant writing with lots of opinions rather than real life examples.
If the author revises this book by adding more examples to illustrate his points, I might change my rating to 5 stars.

Endogenous barriers to entry and market structureAs with his previous book, I like it because it explains market structure using OBSERVABLE variables, because it tests the theory both via case study and via econometric methods and because it is full of innovative ideas. The way in which Sutton tackles the problem of multiplicity of Nash equilibria, what he calls "the bound approach", is still making me think one year later.

A book worth of recommendationPS: I strongly suggest for the next editions of this book that it could be printed in a better format in such way we can see the figures clearer (sorry the claim, nothing is perfect).

Excellent introduction to maintenance and TPMTypical of Terry Wireman, the book is written in no-nonsense language that gets straight to the point. He resists the temptation to include unnecessary topics and details, and thus is able to adequately cover TPM and many of the maintenance basics in only 186 pages - a true achievement. In addition, Wireman includes several useful tools, such as a maintenance organization maturity grid, a list of typical metrics with benchmarks, and a business case template.
This book is a worthwhile read for anybody involved in maintenance.
