Precise and brief!
I find this book very helpful on what I am doing: reading and learn more about personality types after personal interest and discuss it further on an no professional basis with friends. Also, my studies and education are related. To this point, I find this book very accurate in its descriptions, extremely well organised and also it covers areas that other related books don't. (e.g. potential carreer). Yet, it doesn't get into great detail, leaving the reader with the impression "that there is more to know, but I don't know where to read them!" I had already read other related books, but it is the only one that is original for MBTI. Everything else is analyzing what Isabel Briggs claims. For that reason, I strongly recomended it! Yet, you have to have taken the test first because it is not included in the book...Once you take it and find out your type, you will be enjoying reading the interpretation of your 4 letter type!

Excellent synopsis
A short, easy read. Good descriptions of all types

USEFUL MATERIAL CONNECTING TYPE WITH WORK
This is just one of the books that shows you how to use personality/psychological type at work and is worth reading. It covers nearly all issues we face in the modern workplace like communicating with co-workers, handling stress in the workplace, ethics, time management etc. all from a Type perspective. Kroger and Thuesen do a good job at explaining how Extroverts handle things differently from Introverts, Sesates from iNtuitives, Feelers from Thinkers, & Judgers from Perceivers. Apart from this, in between it gives various tips on how people with different preferences can better understand and work with each other. It also tells interesting tales about the happenings in the workshops they conduct and how they explain to people that its because of their personality differences that conflicts arise and what they could do to prevent them. It even has some jokes at the end of the book.

I thought that the cream of the book was the descriptions of the 16 personality types. My type description was extremely accurate and insightful and three or four of the points mentioned in that seemed shocking to me because they described what went on in my mind and its something only I knew about.

But beware - It isn't so good on finding out what your type is.

Overall, a good read!

Finding Ways to Communicate
All personality books offer generalizations and this is no different. The authors, however, do acknowledge the limitations of the Myers-Briggs test (in contrast to Please Understand Me, a worthless book). I had my staff take the MB test to see how they scored and then had them read and use the book in exercises to understand how their communication with and peception of others is affected by their personality. It was an interesting process and got them to realize that some of their interpersonal conflicts start in their head. A good choice for team building and organizational development.

Very Useful
This book is a good overview of Wetland Delineations. I bought it for the mapping information and found it useful when using GIS for Wetland Delineation Maps

Gripping
As everybody who knows me is well aware, I'm just a nut for anything having to do with wetlands! So when my Mom got me this book for my birthday, all it took was one look at the cover and I knew I was in for some real fun. But nothing could've prepared me for Ralph W. Tiner's brilliant eye for detail, his passion for the subject, his linguistic virtuosity. Oftentimes I didn't know whether I was reading poetry or prose, and in Ralph's capable hands, I didn't even care. For anybody interested in wetlands, this book is an absolute must.

Some good ideas
There are some new ideas about indicators in this book. I haven't test whether they can beat the old indicators. The authors also could not give such a test. But if you are a creative technician, you can learn how to create new indicators yourself. I did it. It was an interesting process but might not be profitable! It would be better if this book could have a CDROM that contains all the formula in Metastock, Excel or Tradestation formats.

Very good book about new indicators
This book gave me some new ideas about TA indicators. Although they may not beat all those old indicators, it is still useful to look at TA from other angles.

A GOOD IDEA ABOUT SOME NEW INDICATORS
The technical indicators presented here seem to provide one with better tools that he would normally obtain from the over-used an beated indicators sold on the market today. However, it is not a book where you can just read it any apply the techniques straight away. You will need to obtain the necessary programming skills or buy ready-made programs with these indicators. As such the book is more of a reference and explanatory nature rather thanl one where you can just start applying techniques immediately after you have finished reading it.

Great book for changing your love life
If you're tired of attracting or being attracted to the wrong people for you, this is a good book to not only show you what you've been doing wrong, but what to look for, and where to find Mr. or Ms. right.

If you haven't been introduced to personality typing, there is much more to understand about this fascinating and often life-changing subject that will be useful to you. I'd start with "Please Understand Me" by Kiersey, and strongly recommend "Survival Games Personalities Play" by Eve Delunas to understand what people from each personality type do when things go bad, and most importantly, what you can do about it.

Getting back to LoveTypes, one minor improvement I wish the author would make is in his "Where to find your mate" areas. I detected a strong preference towards upwardly mobile people. I mean, wine is great, but not everyone is going to find their perfect mate at a wine tasting event. Some of the other personality-type books are better rounded in this area.

I don't want to sound like I'm slamming the book, however; I gave it 4 stars, after all. For those of you who are already committed to (stuck with?) a mate you are feeling incompatible with, please read "Survival Games", noted above. You just might find ways to improve your love life, and even learn to appreciate your partner's strengths.

Love Boat meets Briggs-Myers type classification
The author introduces the ideas associated with Briggs-Myers personality traits classification to the area of romantic compatibility. He does a good job of explaining the adjustment patterns of all sixteen such types. The book is easy to read. With a few exception, his recommendations boil down to: (1) Stick to your own MBTI type, or (2) A female I, F, or P will also be compatible with the corresponding male E, T, or J. (And vice versa). I believe author's recommendations are undamentally sound. The book is aimed at singles who are still looking, not at couples working through their differences. Though the later group may also find the book interesting and useful.

Weaknesses: (1) The author seems to borrow a lot from Keirsey and Bates' book "Please Understand Me: Character and Temperament Types" (There's a newer edition of this book). (2) It is not clear what additional/original research was supplied by the author; or the depth, breadth, and rigor of such "research". (3) The personality characteristics author describes are those of a well adjusted person of that Briggs-Myers type. There is no description of how these types behave in a relationship when they feel "under stress". (4) The personality test in the book is a McTest, useful for entertainment purposes only. (For a few bucks you can get a professional caliber test on the Web).

Still, on the whole this is a good book. If you are interested in getting a better understanding of the mechanics of romantic compatibility, and you never looked at it from the point of view of MBTI classifications, this book is highly recommended.

Extremely Accurate!
I had taken the Myers-Briggs personality test about four times before a friend of mine showed me this book. Having had the exact same results from the personality test each time, I had a lot of faith in the system and thought that this book could offer some great insights into comaptibility and the dating scene in general. I was not disappointed. I recognized my last failed relationship immediately and finally understood what it was that went so terribly wrong. Since I am an extreme in three of the components of my type, I have little patience for people whose types are the exact opposite of mine. What's more, the relationships that affected me the most, the ones in which I felt the most connected to my partner, were the same "perfect matches" that Dr. Avila recommends. The most refreshing part of this book was the fact that Dr. Avila makes no judgments about personality. One type is not preferrable over another. The personality traits I had previously seen as flawed or less desirable are now simply differences. In other words, they're not my type! The only part of this I was uncomfortable with was the advice on getting close to your match and making them fall in love with you. Because I am a romantic at heart, I squirm anytime anyone suggests being someone you're not in order to win someone's affections, though, in the end this is not what he intends. Still, I highly recommend this book especially to those who are intropspective and love psychology.

Discovering Your Personality Type: The New Enneagram Questionnaire

Some people need a test
This book is handy for those who need a test to find their enneagram number. It's much better though to read one of the other books that describe the nine spaces, than to take a test. Riso and Hudson have written other books which describe nine levels within the nine types, anyone who takes the time to read these will probably find oneself in there. However, some don't like to read or do better with something like the questionaire. This one isn't bad, (there are better one's out there) but it can be a handy resource on one's bookshelf. Serious students on the enneagram would probably want a copy, however, if resources are limited or one is just starting, another book would be better.

A good way to get started!
As a long-term student of personality typing, I would describe this book as a "serviceable introduction" to the basic ideas behind the Enneagram. Although perhaps not as publicly well known as the Myers-Briggs personality typing system, the Enneagram is a remarkably accurate system for determining your basic personality type.

This slim volume (120 pages) centers around the 144-item "Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator" (RHETI) which is one of the "standards" for determining your Enneagram type. This particular book uses Version 2.0 of the RHETI-- which makes it a couple of "generations" old as of this writing-- but I don't believe the age of the test will have a negative effect on its usefulness in accurately determining your type. The RHETI is a "forced answer" format quiz that forces readers to choose between two statements (not necessarily related)-- statements that sometimes can be very difficult to find a clear choice between.

In addition to the RHETI itself, instructions and score sheets, the book includes a VERY brief introduction and history of the Enneagram, as well as fairly minimal "thumbnail" descriptions of each of the nine Enneagram personality types. There's also a VERY basic introduction to the interpretive tools for understanding your type, including Wings, integration and disintegration, and levels of health. However, if you're interested in learning about the Enneagram in ANY kind of depth (and perhaps already know your type), I'd recommend Riso and Hudson's "Personality Types" instead, which is one of my most frequently used and valuable reference books on the subject. On the other hand, if you just want a "quick and basic" evaluation, then THIS book is for you!

I am generally a big fan of Riso and Hudson's books-- they seem to provide a more "balanced" view of the human psyche than other experts in this field. Helen Palmer's works are also noteworthy.

Overall: I'll give it 7 out of 10 bookmarks, based mostly on the fact that it's really not TRYING to be anything but a very basic introductory book. Enjoy!

A simple, clear, and persuasive idea
A stock's float is the total number of shares available to the public for trading. When this total number of shares gets traded in the market (whether over a week, a month, or a year), you have a "float turnover". This book argues that float turnovers are closely correlated with significant price moves. It's a simple and clear idea, made all the more persuasive by the fact that there's a common-sense explanation for it: a float turnover represents an (approximately) complete change of ownership in who holds the stock; so if, for example, the new owners are significantly more bullish than the previous owners, they will be more reluctant to sell, and the price will rise. Mr. Woods makes a good case that the float is a relevant piece of information, and I don't doubt that many traders will be grateful to him for bringing this to their attention. Only one thing prevents me from giving this book 5 stars: the incessancy with which the author can't refrain from referring to his "discoveries", going so far as to compare his "discoveries" to those of Columbus, Copernicus, and Newton (to name only three). He seems like a good enough guy and is probably doing this out of insecurity, but it's off-putting. The book badly needed a good editor to inform Mr. Woods that the best, indeed the only real way for him to advance his work is to present it clearly and let it speak for itself, and that for an author to constantly urge the reader to think highly of his "discoveries" is not only in bad taste, but detracts from the persuasive power of his idea. This, however, is a minor complaint which should not dissuade anyone from investigating the idea, which seems like a good one. I say "seems" because, unlike a previous reviewer, I have not yet back-tested it; but after reading the book I certainly intend to do so.

Buy and Sell when price is above or below the float turnover
Shares traded to the public are referred to as the "Float". The float is a constantly changing measurement.

The amount of time it takes for the cumulative volume total to equal the float is the unit of measurement referred to as the "Float Turnover". So intuitively the Float Turnover represents a span of time required to change all ownership in the float. Every stock behaves differently. Some stocks have a float turn over in a couple of days, whereas, it takes years for others.

The author states, At the Top, "Right at the top all the shares are bought by unsuspecting foolish investors who don't realize the stock is over-priced and they get stuck at the top" and at the bottom, "The really smart people are buying all the shares and the price goes up because they are holding them tightly."

As price rise and fall, the constantly changing ownership moves from one price level to another.

Float turnover formations will be found at the exact location that marks a long term bottom or top.

When the stock is being supported it will tend to be at the top of the float turnover price range

When the stock is dropping without support, the price will tend to be at the bottom of the float turnover price range with the float acting as overhead supply.

The timely sell signal occurs where the price drops below the float turnover at the top where the price crosses the bottom channel line for the first time on the chart. A buy occurs when price breaks above the current float turnover price range.

Float Analysis is a great new research area.
For several years, I always thought that there was a missing dimension to trading stocks and wondered how certain stocks go up so fast compared with others. When trading IPOs, one always looks at the stock's float because if it's very small, then the price move can be explosive in some cases.

The first thing I did was program all of the float indicators in TradeStation and even devised some of my own based on the ideas in the book. The whole idea of the float turning over at critical turning points turns out to be valid. As Steve Woods points out, float analysis in and of itself is not a solution, but if you pay attention to the trend of the float channels and have some kind of market analysis tool for short-term direction, then it is a gold mine.

Your Best Sport: How to Choose and Play It

Author: Jonathan P. Niednagel

Average review score:

Brain Tying as Pseudoscience
Although Mr. Niednagel wants us to believe that the product he is pitching, Brain Typing, is scientifically based, it is really nothing more than just another weary entry from the productive and fertile field of pseudoscience. He uses anecdotes and testimonials to pitch his product with absolutely zero controlled studies that even hint at its effectiveness. The irony of using athletes to promote his product is the common knowledge of athletic superstition.

He has every right to sell a product that relies on the expectations, dreams, and wishes of the buyer. This is what American commerce is all about. But, pleeeese!! Don't try to tell us it has any relationship to real science.

Mixing athletics with the brain
Overall this was a well thought out book. Its the only book I know of that deals with personality theory from an athletic perspective. The main reason why I don't give it five stars is because there are pages and pages on some types such as ISTP (claimed to have the most innate athletic ability) and hardly anything on others (ISFJ, INFJ, INTP). The book is unlikely to be inspiring to aspiring athletes of such types since there isn't a whole large repetoire of sports or role models listed.

Brain Typing
This is a fascinating book. Jonathan attempts to tie physiology to principles that have been discussed for years as being psychological. It can be liberating to know that people are not being difficult, but they are the way they are because of their "hard wiring" which causes them to see the world differently. One problem is the self testing for brain typing. It can be tricky to pick the correct type even when you've been as honest as you can with the questions. It can also influence your expectations for children's development. This is a seminal work that needs to be developed further by the scientific community.

Useful and easy to read, but not stand-alone
This book is well written, fun, and a great source of ideas if you already know your Myers-Briggs type. If you don't, the section on identifying your type is weak; I recommend Kiersey's "Please Understand Me" instead (or inquire at your local educational institutions: I took the Myers-Briggs, had it professionally interpreted, and got loads of helpful reference material from a $40 seminar at a community college).
The book is most useful if you're discontented with your present career (or have qualms about the career you're preparing for, if you're a student). I was railroaded into a career that didn't suit me because of my family's expectations, although I was determined and intelligent enough to become moderately good at it. But I never felt comfortable with it, and it was only after many unhappy years that I realized I was in the wrong job and broke away to find a more congenial career path. I wish this book had existed 30 years ago!
I agree with other readers that the book is short on practical guidance as to WHICH career you should choose -- I've found Barbara Sher's books much more helpful. Nonetheless, this is a good place to start, at a reasonable price, and it's excellent as far as it goes.

Best book for career searchers/changers
Do What You Are is the best resource I've found for someone who is searching for a new career. I might have already know that I was a "thinker", but I had never studied or thought much about all the other aspects of my personality. The sixteen personality profiles are available elsewhere, but I really liked the way this book helped you narrow down your own personality. I wrote all over the margins, and, like a true INTP, I didn't want to eliminate any possibilties by deciding on only one type! I'm finally convinced I'm an INTP with a little ENTP on the side!
The book's only shortcoming was the relatively short lists of careers for each type. And many careers have so many "subcategories". I mean, there are engineers in consulting, government, industry, and different types perform better in each subcategory. I'd like to find a book on "INTP Careers", even though I think I've found the career I've been looking for as a university professor.
Buy this book, you won't regret it. Pathfinder and Parachute are not as good.

Insightful approach
I have long been a follower of MBTI, I have applied it in several ways - personal relationships, professional relationships, etc.. but in recent months I have really been questioning if my job is "right" for me.. This book sheds tremendous light on the concept of type as it pertains to career happiness. It is a MUST read for those who are already intrigued by MBTI studies and a DEFINITE read for those who are unhappy in the workplace and just starting to put a plan of action together.

My econ professor has always told me to...
My econ professor consistently instructs us to approach the topic of economics from an objective standpoint. This is the most slanted economics text I have ever read. No way people actually use this book in a classroom setting! I got through half of the book before I had to toss it out because it totally distorts the rational economic theories that I have learned throughout college. I am neither liberal or conservative, but a realist who understands enough about economic history to know that there is more than the one-sided arguments that are presented here.

Economists openly taking a stand! GREAT!
"Economics" in the US is usually code for "why 'free enterprise' is better than the tooth fairy." I get sick of so-called economists and many other social scientists telling us that being "objective" is somehow possible and desirable. Whenever someone in the U.S. says they are being "objective" about a subjective subject like economics - they really mean they are for the dominant capitalist status quo. This book makes no bones about being critical and NON-objective - and its refreshing and much needed. I teach high school economics and I can't get kids to put this book down. It may not be scholarly work - but it makes important HUMAN issues graphically clear in its pages. Every American should read this book. Excellent stuff. Bravo!

Just the Most Telling Facts
Readers seeking an introduction to capitalistic theory and its relationship to the U.S. economy can find better works elsewhere. This book doesn't purport to provide that kind of analysis.

But if readers want a book that provides facts on how capitalism effects individuals in the U.S. across a variety of racial, gender and class lines, then it is hard to imagine a better book than this one. The book is an easy read, but it is by no means simplistic. It is easy because capitalism isn't nearly as successful at providing a fair and equitable standard of living as is commonly held. The book proves that point quite well. Readers might be surprised to discover facts in this book about the U.S. economy that they've never read before. It's a real eye-opener.
