For reliability and validity
In an era of accountability, McDowell and Newell do an excellent job of pulling together instruments to assess patients' health. Although this volume was primary designed for Occupational and Physical Therapists, it should have a broader audience. It includes over 80 instruments with a summary on how to employ each device with estimates of reliability and validity. They give more than adequate details to enable the professional to make decisions regarding the quality and appropriateness of each single measure. Users of these tools need to comprehend the extreme lengths that it took for McDowell and Newell to accomplish their task. Their work is truly impressive. On pages 47-50, the authors do a particularly good job explaining the difference between ADL and IADL.

In addition, the authors do a particularly good job in providing technical details needed by professionals to make decisions about the need and appropriateness of an instrument to serve the specific needs of a patient. Students who are learning about calibration of psychometric instruments will also find the work beneficial. They will immediately see the practical application of theoretical concepts presented in classroom decisions. I have placed this fine book on closed serve for students to use after my presentation on reliability and validity.

Every university library should adopt a copy this is fine monograph.

Must Have for Estimating Life Expectancy Reductions!
Primarily useful for anyone who needs to estimate life expectancy reductions due to various diseases or chronic health impairments - insurance underwriters, actuaries, epidemiologists, or medical researchers will find this invaluable. There are excellent introductory notes on the methods and arithmetic of population tables and life expectancy calculations. In two volumes, this provides consistent tables and extracts from hundreds of medical studies - ranging from general studies of obesity and the effects of smoking, down to specific studies of various heart valve replacements. I only wish this were still in print.

A Must For Parents!
"One of a Kind" is a marvellous tool for parents. As an MBTI Practitioner, this is my favourite "Type" book for working with children. It very simply and clearly helps you recognize your own preferences and type, as well as childrens.
Knowing hereditary life preferences helps you maximize children's potential by developing their strengths, as well as understanding their differences that may challenge you (rather than annoy and irritate you!).
My favourite section contains a poignant revelation of an introvert's mental functioning, and page 54 has six Bullet Points to bear in mind if you love an introvert.
Besides revealing effective discipline for different types, how to help your child succeed in school, and suggestions for finding a comfortable parenting style, LaVonne Neff also addresses improving family communication and strengthening your marriage. So--DOES it matter what type you marry? Read the book and find out! (Hint--look on pages 85 &86)

Reefs at Risk: A Map-Based Indicator of Threats to the World's Coral Reefs

Worthwhile Buy!!
This book is a completely worthwhile buy! It gives ofcourse statistical information, mainly in a map form about the threats and about the risk which the world's reefs face. It doesn't catalog the amount or rate of degradation, since this is not fully known. However the book gives information on the types of reefs, real case studies of reefs and of problems faced by reefs.
The book is an easy read and the information presented in both map and picture form is very inviting.
I reccommend this book for students studying reefs/ conservation, or anyone just interested in reefs. A good addition to this book as well is Coral Reefs, ecology, threats and conservation by Charles Sheppard.

Good training exercises and helpful tips
I found this book of Myers-Briggs exercises very helpful in adding new interactive activities to my programs. The book has several examples of activities for each of the MBTIs mental functions (Sensing, iNtuition, Thinking and Feeling), the attitudes (Extraversion, Introversion, Judging and Perceiving) and combinations of the preferences. The directions are easy to follow and the programs can be adapted to your audience. I use them with college students as well as older adult groups. The exercises are fun and do a good job of explaining how preferences work in the real world. I do wish there were a few more facilitator tips in each exercise. Having said that, for people familiar with what the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is and is not, these exercises will keep your program fun and help in the learning process of your group.

Enhanced with figures, tables, summary "boxes", and more
In Sharing Nature's Interest: Ecological Footprints As An Indicator Of Sustainability, Nicky Chambers, Craig Simmons, and Mathis Wackernagel deftly collaborate to present the reader with a compendium of information on assessing ecology on a regional and a global basis through a process called 'ecological footprinting'. The informative text is enhanced with figures, tables, summary "boxes", a list of acronyms and abbreviations, a primer on thermodynamics, conversion tables, glossary, and an index. Sharing Nature's Interest is an important and highly recommended addition to personal, academic, and professional environmental studies reference collections and reading lists.

The Future Is Today
Like most people, I'm interested in the future. When I spotted "Signs of the Times," I was intrigued. You don't see many futures books with the author's photo on the cover. When I read the book, i understood--Roger Herman is a popular speaker talking about trends. I like the way the book flows from one trend to another, with Herman's interpretation of each trend. Agreeing with the author wasn't difficult, even though some of the commentary stretched my imagination a bit. This was an easy book for me to get through--on the plane and between tasks back home. Putting it down and picking it up again is not a problem; each trend chapter is short, but stands alone. Stimulating, thought-provoking. "Signs" should be a hot seller.

Fantastic Quick Start!
Fantastic booklet to quick start and keep going in school using Myers-Briggs Type theory to help! Useful suggestions! Short enough to read and get a quick start in one hour! (If you want more information there are other books that go into more detail and take longer to read (20+ hours) but for a QUICK start, this is FANTASTIC!! Have purchased two extra for friends who are having problems both as parents and as teachers! Need to have taken the Myers-Briggs MBTI before reading as it is a booklet of what to do with your MBTI results and not a copy of the indicator itself. Well worth the money!
