One of the best books on incorporating your business
J.W. Dicks is a busisnessman with actual in the field experience and an attorney with the legal background.

While there are many books on how to incorporate, this one is written by a man who has/is in business, thinks like a businessman but also understands and knows the legal jargon.

I highly recommend this book along with the Small Business Legal Kit also by J.W. Dicks and Inc. Yourself by Judith H. McQuown.

Must reading for anyone in business
Whether you are contmplating starting your own business or are already in one and need good, accurate information on how to incorporate, this book is a must read for. You will find all of the information you need and the necessary forms. Also recommend The Small Business Legal Kit by J.W.Dicks which is 450 pages of with a disk and easy to fill in the blanks forms. You can become your own lawyer.

Form a business or corporation in any state.
This an excellent book written by an attorney and business person. I have purchased other books on corporations but was vastly dissappointed. This one is excellent.

Highly recommended!

Great book. Very helpful and very informative
When I first received the Apparel Industry Sourcebook for Contractors, I was surprised to see how much smaller it was than the first WWD Directory I bought in 1994. The loss of American manufactures is evident by the comparative sizes of these two sourcebooks. Sad. The contractors who are in business are all listed in this great sourcebook and there are still many to choose from. I found my contractors through this sourcebook and this sourcebook saved me from countless hours of fruitlessly trolling the web and tradeshows for apparel contractors. The contractors are all listed neatly with contact names, addresses, minimums, specialties and capacity. Thank you for such a terrific sourcebook.

Apparel Industry Sourcebook by Fashiondex
This is a great book, it has become my bible! All of the information on the fabric suppliers were correct. Even the phone numbers and email addresses were good. I love that the book has minimums listed, too. It's also nice that it's small, and not a huge and heavy book. A very good directory for other Fashion designers.

How to Form a Nonprofit Corporation in California

Great Guidance!
Using this book and the CDRom we were able to learn exactly what we needed to do and how to complete all the paperwork necessary to obtain our nonprofit status. It will be a wonderful reference as our group goes through the normal process of growth and change.

Esential for staring a nonprofit organization
I am working with a group in Sacramento to start a nonprofit French cultural group and school. Others suggested this jewel from Nolo press and it has been extrodinary. Initially, I checked it out from the library and found it so useful, I am purchasing it. The CD ROM provides all form letters and forms essential to register the organization. From state tax exemption, to federal tax exemption, to establishing a name and reduced tarriff postage, it's all there. They also provide step by step instructions to completing the dizzying federal tax exemption forms which will reduce days of your prep time. I strongly recommend this book!

Very useful guide to getting started in business.
As someone with no experience in launching a business, this book has been very useful in explaining the different options (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, etc.) and the distinct advantages for each. The author admits a bias in favor of forming a corporation over the other business structures, as is alluded to in the title. He does justice to each business type, and follows with how-tos in everything from choosing a name, issuing stock, raising capital, dealing with lawyers, preparing contracts, leases, hiring and employment laws, insurance, trademarks and taxes. Although I've heard some discontent with the detail covering sole proprietorship, I found the book an overall excellent introduction into starting a business, and an eye-opener on all the details involved. The Illinois-specific information is very helpful as well. For anyone with limited business experience thinking about striking out on his or her own, I recommend this as a good tool to start with.

Well organized and an essential guide for getting started.
This is a well organized book that covers just about everything you need to know to get started. You'll still have to do a lot of work on your own, but it tells you what to expect, how to find the info, and what to do to make sure you're covered legally. Sample documents and forms are also shown to help you in preparing your own or to be ready for filling out government forms. Given the price of the book, I feel the value of information in the book is a steal. It rates a 9 only because I didn't find the chapter on taxes to be as complete as I had hoped. There is a lot of good info on taxes but it's a little weak on some of the details.

Absolutely Hilarious!
As a science fiction/techno-thriller author, I rarely have time to indulge my taste for business comedy. But somehow in my busy schedule, I picked up a copy of Steven Lo's hilarious book, and found myself making excuses to my editor on why I didn't show up at my book signing. I was too busy laughing out loud at Mr. Lo's hilarious semi-autobiographical tome concerning the world of high tech business and the life of a Chinese American tech student wrapped into one side splitting novel. A must have.

Exceptional!
I suggest you should buy this book because not even my books compare to this one. It was simply stunning!

Circulating Being: From Embodiment to Incorporation

Excellent, approachable, scholarly study
Thomas W. Busch's "Circulating Being" provides an insightful critical examination of late French existential writings by Camus, Marcel, Sartre, and Merleau-Ponty. While early existentialists viewed traditional Western thought, rationalism and empiricism with disdain, Busch argues that the late existentialists recognized the limits of science and technology by shifting existentialism "from embodiment to incorporation". Existentialism is a "good faith" attempt to make sense of and refigure the world based on individual lived experience and subjectivity. While the universe is indeed an uncertain, ambiguous place, we human beings can find certainty and "deliverance" by developing authentic, loving relationships with each other. No doubt, there are differences in perspectives, yet Bush shows how, for example, Sartre, the "philosopher of psychological difference," (46) was greatly influenced by Decartes, Husserl, and even Freud to a certain extent. For Sartre, "Human reality [is] a being which is what it is not and which is not what it is" (47).

Busch's work serves as a readable and invaluable referential keepsake for further study in French existentialism. A great read!

Invaluable resource
This guide was of invaluable assistance to me in forming my new corporation. It makes what can be a daunting task seem relatively simple: it is clearly written, well-organized, and extremely thorough, and its tone is friendly and encouraging. Not only does it have the (correct!) phone numbers, addresses, and fax numbers for all the relevant filing agencies, but any forms that you might need are available electronically, at no additional cost, from the author. Staff is also available by phone to answer questions; I called several times and found them to be consistenly helpful and responsive. I can't recommend this book highly enough if you are planning to start your own business!

Don't buy it and use pre-tax $$$ for somethingelse
I don't understand the high rating for this book. I know many people who have bought it and tell me it stinks. They have also placed reviews here which were deleted.

Not only does the book stink, so does the author and his unethical practices.

The only kind of person that would spend money on junk like this is someone who enjoys throwing money away without purpose. But don't take my word for it, go to one of the other online book retailers that allow book reviews and see for yourself.

Buy it with pre-tax dollars!
This is a great read for anybody considering incorporation or investing in an existing business. The author employs dozens of examples to illustrate the key decisions involved in choosing a business structure and how to manage it. Potential downside is given equal weight with potential savings, and often neglected issues affecting minority shareholders like "dilution" and "freeze out" are given a fair hearing.

The section on pre-tax vs. post tax purchases was particularly well illustrated. Find out why a $0.37 stamp may cost you $0.25 when you buy it through your business and $0.56 when you steal it from your personal stationary drawer. The author's conservative approach to accounting was refreshing in a world of books that profess to tell you how to beat the IRS. The strategies for maximizing shareholder income in this book are based on solid, legitimate planning.

The only fault I found with the book is that the number of examples led the author to be a little too imaginative with made-up business names. However, that wasn't enough to stop me from reading it from cover to cover in less than 24 hours.

A solid, accurate, informed and informative primer
How To Start And Run Your Own Corporation: S-Corporations For Small Business Owners by experienced entrepreneur Peter I. Hupalo is a straightforward, "user friendly", instructional and resource guide covering everything from choosing the most appropriate business structure; to issuing shares of stock to attracting investors; to the role of bylaws; to minimizing taxes; and much, much more. How To Start And Run Your Own Corporation is a solid, accurate, informed and informative primer which is especially recommended for anyone looking to quickly pick up the basics and put themselves into business.
