A Wonderful book
Visit bitsandspaces.ethz.ch to get a first impression of the books contents, and then try to imagine the best book possible made out of this material. This is what you will get.

Great Read, Interesting Research
At first I wasn't sure what to think upon opening this book, but now I'm very glad that I took the chance to get it. Everything about the book from the layout to its graphic design to the interactivity of the content (which is greatly enhanced by the impressive cd-rom included with the book)is a step above. As far as content goes the book contains a great deal of provocative thought. It offers the reader a glimpse of what is and what could be for the future of architecture and design professions in general. The title could be a bit misleading because it isn't so much about CAD in the strictest sense as it is about the inevitable interaction and meshing of architecture, computers, and current and future technologies that may very well offer a different kind of architecture than what we know today. The fact that it is a book that has been very recently published and includes relatively up to date information (including projects from the year 2000) is also a definite plus considering the fast and furious rate of technological progress we're experiencing. All in all, a great book. Futurist thinkers will not regret this buy.

Impressive Research Projects !
This book is a 'must' for those of us in the field of architecture + media + computers.

Indispensable !
If you share your life with wolf-dog crosses, or have an interest in knowing more about wolves and wolfdogs, this book is absolutely essential reading !!! ... Dog owners can also benefit tremendously from the behavioral insights and postive training advice offered.

New owners and long-time owners alike will delight in reading the sections on "Principles of Positive Training" (including how-to's), "Dominance Challenges", "Fear Issues" as well as "Enrichment" (great ideas throughout the book), "Veterinary Care" and much, much more.

I strongly suggest that if you are a breeder, or are involved in rescue that you lay your paws on a number of copies of this book to give to your prospective buyers or adopters. Make it part of your educational program :-) Better yet, combine "Wolfdogs A to Z" with the author's other book, "Living with Wolfdogs" for an all around excellent source of practical advice and information.

Enjoy the photos too !

An astounding sequel to the 'wolfdog owners bible!'
Wolfdogs A-Z is the most authoritative in-depth book ever written on the subject of wolfdog behavior and training. Once again, Nicole Wilde (author of Living With Wolfdogs) combines her years of hands on experience in working with wolfdogs and her positive training approach as a professional dog trainer to produce sound practical methods that achieve astounding results with these sometimes difficult to train canines. I have personally tested the easy to fallow step-by-step methods outlined in the book with my own wolfdogs with fantastic results!

The chapters devoted to understanding wolfdog behavior provide the most down to earth in-depth and precise information available in writing anywhere. How often have you wondered "Why does my wolfdog do that?" You'll find those answers here. The detailed discussions on avoiding undesirable behaviors are invaluable for the first time owner as well the practical tips and advice for modifying behaviors even the most experienced will appreciate.

Added to the books credits are excellent chapters on natural feeding (what is often referred to as BARF: Bones and Raw Food) Fun, safe toys and activities for keeping your companion busy, dispelling the numerous myths regarding these animals and much, much more.

Wolfdogs A-Z is an absolute must have for all wolfdog owners and also highly recommended for people who have one of the more challenging canines of any breed.

Do you find your new "Best Friend" a bit overwhelming?
I can't say enough about Nicole Wilde's book. I own a low percentage wolfdog I rescued from a local animal shelter by mistake; That is, I was told he was an Alaskan Malamute, but at his initial veterinary examination, the vet informed me that my gorgeous (but aggressive) 100lb 1-year-old was about 25% wolf! Having had no experience with wolfdogs (and getting recommendations from three animal behaviorists that I destroy him), I realized that this rescue would be quite a challenge. I decided to learn all I could about his species and give him a chance. Through researching the subject on the Internet, I became aware of Ms. Wilde's work with wolfdogs. It was refreshing to find someone so knowledgeable in the field. I consider "Wolfdogs A-Z" an invaluable resource. While reading it, I found that I could easily apply the data and follow Ms. Wilde's advice. The chapter about Winter Wolf Syndrome was one of my favorites, as it gave me information I had not found anywhere else. This book provided answers to many situations I needed help with, including diet and housing methods. Most importantly to me, Nicole Wilde employs positive training techniques which have helped my wolfdog become a more gentle, loyal and affectionate member of our "pack". The book is a perfect blend of humor and instruction. I find it very complete, and a "must read" for anyone who currently owns a wolfdog or is considering the rescue of one. (It's training section is great for "regular" dogs, too, as my Welsh Corgi has responded very well to the techniques!)

Common Sense Not Required: Idiots Designing Cars + Hybrid Vehicles: My Career with Chrysler

Not just for car junkies!
Having read "Common Sense Not Required," I am most impressed with the author's thorough knowledge of the industry, and his skill in explaining even complex mechanical situations. I have a sufficient knowledge about cars, but was concerned that I might be overwhelmed by the technical jargon. Not so! I laughed out loud at some of the antics of the Chrysler employees. The author's voice and humor make it a very readable book. There's a lot of practical information as well as numerous interesting stories that keep the reader turning pages. Even though I don't work in the car industry, I drive one, and the stories contained herein will appeal to most people. The information on hybrid vehicles is very timely and informative. This is a book you will want to OWN!

Living in the shadow....
Mr. Boberg has hit upon the crux of the American automotive industry, that being, "idiots" tend to be examples of THE PETER PRINCIPLE, personified. Management at Chrysler has never been responsibly described by the mainstream press, never utilizing anything less than glowing terms in the early to latter 1990's. Newspapers and magazines all seemed to fawn over the executives regardless of capability, based solely on those executives' adeptness at public relations. Several of the minions described in this book cost AMC and Chrysler millions of dollars, due to their ineptitude, in my opinion, and now, the facts surrounding their "accomplishments" are out in the open, for all to see the heretofore hidden warts on the programs hailed as successes by the media, such as the Detroit Free Press.

Technical expertise is not required to understand the terminology used in this book, as Mr. Boberg is very adept at explaining concepts in lay terms. Overall, any true enthusiast of this industry, including those employed therein, should place this book on the top of their "Franklin Planner" to-do list.

Wow! Rare glimpse
Our views of the inside of the auto industry have been limited to PR-saturated praise in business magazines, self-loving autobiographies, and exposes written by famous people (most notably John DeLorean). This book is written by a very talented and reputable suspension engineer, and covers his time at AMC and Chrysler. A co-worker told me that Chrysler manages to get by for the same reason as any large, badly run company (e.g. most of the rest of the industry): the dedicated people work hard to triumph over the dimwits and egomaniacs...but this book will tell you a lot about the industry.

Unusual in this book is a large section on hybrid-electric cars, telling where they are practical, and where they are hype; being written by an engineer, these chapters use actual facts and figures.

I don't agree with most of the author's political opinions, but fortunately these are largely confined to the last chapter.

You really have to buy this book.

her start, just her start
So this is her first book, from 1974. The way Jorie Graham feels now is that you'll have to pardon the youth of it. This book won't give you an idea of all the other amazing developments she's had in her career, for herself & for western poetry, but it is a showcase for her brilliant mind for metaphor & the sounds of poetry among other things. It'll show you how she started as a poet, so you can understand better her development as a poet. Besides that, it still gets 5 stars anyway for the brilliant, brilliant metaphor & thoughts throughout.

visceral mastery?
So when she first took up the craft of poetry, this is what she did. The poetics of the writing are not as difficult as her later work, but the thoughts are still huge concrete slabs of serious intelligence. It's still difficult, if not in precisely the same way as her later work, & it was clear from this book -- from the first few poems in this book -- that she had gigantic poetry inside her.

Fabulous debut.See where the great poet started!
This poetry is less compicated than Ms.Graham's newer poems.Though they still have that charm and profound ideas expressed in the most beautiful poetic language ever!Spring the few dollars for some poetic delight!

A world apart
This book is a wonderful description of how the Seichelles were 50 years ago. It tells the ultimate (real) adventure of a man who had the strenght to change completely his life, and decided to live remote somewhere in the Indian Ocean. This is a story which will carry You in a world apart, and that it will not be any more. It makes you think of what and how much we have lost in our day after day rat race.
Read and escape for a while. Buy as many copies as You can and make it read to your children before it is too late for them.

Pure brilliance in a paperback.
This book is an absolute blinder. For any body like myself who is interested in diving or travel it will enthraul, for anybody else just the mere excitement of the story and the histerical situations a bunch of half naked Sechelian men and one very confused westerner can get into will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. You may be interested to know that "Beyond The Reefs" is infact a double book, also containing my favourite of his "Sharks For Sale". Some of the things in here like being puled along side a hooked 30 foot female great white have to be read to be believed. As I said this book is fantastic and if youv'e ever read something like the beach then this is sure if only superficialy to appeal. ORDER A COPY NOW! INFACT ORDER TWO OR THREE!

Garden Seed Inventory: An Inventory of Seed Catalogs Listing All Non-Hybrid Vegetable Seeds Available in the United States and Canada

Valuable for ordinary gardeners, also.
If you are looking for non-hybrid vegetable seed sources, this is the book for you. It lists vegetables, their characteristics and where their seed may be obtained. I own a copy and have spent hours enjoying it. I don't consider myself a zealot, just an avid gardener who is interested in preserving the vegetable gene pool, and trying some old varieties. I was interested in finding disease and insect resistant varieties. If your library has this book you can take a look at it before buying to be sure it is what you are looking for. I had to have my own copy.

The perfect book for the vegetable garden zealot.
Printed on the inside of the cover there are praises for "Garden Seed Inventory," and rightly so, for it is a valuable, "one of a kind" catalogue of all the vegetable seeds offered by garden seed companies in North America.

Dr. Harlan, retired professor of plant genetics (there's a clue for you) states that the book is for "enthusiastic gardeners, plant breeders and those interested in the preservation of seed stocks." Now I think of myself as an enthusiastic amateur gardener, but it will take a whole lot more than my enthusiasm to really make this tome useful. This is a book that a professor of plant genetics should have. This is the book that the owners of one of the 255 seed companies listed in the book should have, and this is the book that a seed zealot would have, but not your normal 'enthusiastic gardener'.

Don't get me wrong, this book is extremely valuable to the right person. As Wendell Berry said, "The saving of seeds has become a matter of the greatest importance, for we are on the verge of losing the genetic diversity of our food crops.". Over the last 20 years, because of mega-transnational corporations buying out the small seed companies, there has been a significant loss of local or regional varieties. Here's why; when a large corporation gets into the seed business they have to cover a large market, so they breed for a variety of vegetables plants that can grow anywhere across North America (hybrid) and dump the regional plants. In 1981, the first edition of "Garden Seed Inventory" there were 493 tomatoes (red) varieties available; by 1998 there were 108 still available (78% drop). Then again, in the same period, there were 546 new varieties brought to market.

What this book is really about is saving our vegetable heritage and assuring genetic preservation. It is the seed squealer of horticulture books. It will tell you which varieties are about to be dropped and it also helps you find regional varieties that you can plant, thus preserve the lineage. It is a great tool for those that are ready to move from enthusiastic gardener to zealous, non-hybrid vegetable seed gardener. However, for the rest of us Americans, we will probably plant our gardens with the seeds that were on the rack at the local stores and when they come up, if they come up, enthusiastically smile. Highly Recommended for the zealot, conditionally recommended for the rest of us.

Hybrid Warships
This is an excellent review of hybrid warships from the early 20th century to the 1980s. It highlights the difficulties in combining an ability to handle aircraft with any other useful military attributes. It suggests that the desire to design or build such ships is a sign of some psychological defect. If you are interested in a detailed study of the interaction between technical characteristics and military utility in warships, then this book is for you.

Hybrid warships: Mixing the impossible
Mssrs. McGlaughlin and Laymam write an excellent history of the mixed breed of warship known as the hybrid. They cover designs from before the First World War to modern designs combining missiles and VTOL aircraft. In particular they reveal the difficulty of making a ship capable of carrying and launching a sufficient number of aircraft while at the same time possessing adequate protection and surface firepower. The German vessels designed after the Graf Zepplin were huge ships of over 70,000 tons but carried only 42 aircraft with 6-11/54.5 cal. guns. They were immensely protected but were completely unrealistic as weapons of naval warfare. The Japanese built several classes of cruiser and converted battleships which could be described as hybrid and proved useful although the floatplanes they carried could be vastly outperformed by carrier aircraft. The French, British and Italians also had designs for hybrids. The Russians were going to contract the U.S. to build huge battleship-carriers for them but Congress refused to allow this. Overall, this book is fascinating reading and a must read for any ship modeler, naval historial or naval wargamer.

Pricing And Managing Exotic And Hybrid Options
One of the best books on this topic. It is a very practical book for someone with practical background. No sigma algebra to confuse you, and you do not have to know Girsanov to understand the quanto effect. You just focus on those tough issues you are running into everyday: correlations, long dated FX, cross Gamma hedging, strategic risk management for an exotic book, transaction cost in illiquide market, and so on. In addition, last paragraph of the book is the every reason make me think why this book stands out among these many books.

Excellent reference book for structured derivatives!
I find this book extremely useful in my job. It covers almost all aspects of exotic and hybrid instruments: the real life examples, theory behind the pricing models, implementation using different numerical methods, hedging and risk management issues, a good appendix on the basic math stuff and even a sample VBA code to do multivariate MC. Most importantly, the author took a practitioner's point of view, which makes the materials much easier to be understood and applied. However, I did encounter quite a few errors inside some of the formulas. Just name a few, Eq 3.15 and 3.18 on pg 53, Eq 3.142 on pg 98 and Eq H.61 on pg 336. However, none of them is serious (more like a typo to me). In addition, I think it is more important to get the idea right. You can always double check the formula against any math reference book. Overall, I feel it is an excellent reference book for anyone with a serious interest in structured derivatives.
