Current information
Extremely well written, with lots of photographs, this is an excellent book for a do it yourselfer, or just a home owner. The book covers basic repairs and maintenance, with a not too complicated introduction to electricity, but quickly gets down to the basics, with chapters on Wall Switches, Receptacles, Light Fixtures, Doorbells & Thermostats. The kind of book you can refer to and keep around. If you are remodeling or doing minor construction, an excellent next step up companion is the Advanced Home Wiring book.

Excellent book
This book has just enough detail to perform minor repairs/remodeling on your home wiring. There are many pictures on how to perform simple/moderate electrical projects. It is great for a beginner do-it-yourselfer looking to start out in the dangerous world of electricity. Good Luck!

Great overview
This book gives a nice overview of woodworking. There's not a lot of detail, so you should plan on purchasing additional books if you want depth. The book does a nice job of covering many aspects of woodworking: from setting up a shop to using each hand and power tool to lumber selection and finishing.

At first, it's almost overwhelming because the illustrations (which are quite well done) and the text cover every square inch of every page. There's probably more information packed into this book than other books twice as long.

If you're just getting in to woodworking, this is a good book to start with because it gives you a good sense of what you can do, what tools you'll need and the skills you'll need. After you're done leafing through it, you can use it later on as a broad reference.

Excellent book. Easy to read with great illustrations.
This book goes over all of the basic woodworking techniques. It includes all the tools and how to use them, joining techniques, finishing, planning, and the basics of furniture making. These are the best illustrations I've seen so far. There are no plans in this book though. For plans, check out Sunsets "Woodworking Projects", and Reader's Digest's "Woodworking Room by Room". I couldn't think of a better way to spend .

A Short History of Stuff in Your Bathroom
This is an ingenious book! It's for anyone who's ever wondered about the origins of things in their bathroom. There are sixty chapters on everything from aspirin to toothpaste. Each chapter includes original photographs, a short history of the subject, and a number of "pop-up" facts ranging from the curious to the amazing (who would've guessed that there's a Lip Balm Anonymous in San Francisco for those addicted to lip balm!) This book is not only a tribute to many twentieth century marvels, but also a chronicle of the bathroom in many cultures throughout history, from the ancient Egyptians to the Aztecs. The book is witty, stylish, and fun to read, and it reminds us of just how much we take the bathroom for granted. Something unique is that there are four different covers to chose from. Perfect, of course, for bathroom reading!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL
what a nifty book! Never knew there was so much history lying around my bathroom!

Batman Beyond To The Rescue
Terry McGinnis patrols Gotham City as Batman. Drawn to an attack on a building, he flies down and sees Shriek. While they fight, Batman has to save a young deaf boy from falling rock. Batman tracks Shriek down, but their fight again involves young Tommy. Part of what makes Shriek evil is his own deafness, and Batman knows that.

Scott Peterson has written and edited several Batman stories for DC Comics. He's also written another Batman Beyond book for young readers: BATMAN BEYOND: NEW HERO IN TOWN.

BATMAN BEYOND: HEAR NO EVIL is written like a comic book. The use of panels and word balloons draw an early reader's eye on, and the layout makes the story fun to read out loud. The art is really well done, showing lots of action and color.

This book is recommended for young fans of the BATMAN BEYOND cartoon.

What's in Bear's Big Blue House?
What a wonderful book for young readers just learning to read. Within this book you take a tour through Bear's house exploring room by room naming different items in each room. My 11 month old daughter has fun trying to find "Bear's" friends in each room. The words in the book are so simple to read and learn. The illustrations that they have chosen for each word are excellent and very clear for the reader to understand what the item(word) is. When you read this book you start in the kitchen and go all the way to the attic to see Luna.

After you have read this book, you can ask your child where items are located in Bear's house. You can even ask them if you have any of the same items in your own home as Bear does. You can also ask your child, how many of a certain item are in Bear's house. Not only does this book teach the reader words it can also help them count, along with helping them with their memory skills.

I can hardly wait for my daughter to get older so that we can read this together. However, we have fun looking at the pictures, and having me read the words to her for right now. We strongly recommend this book for any "Bear" fan or any young reader.

Bear-y easy to read fun!
Our daughter received this book several months ago and it is one of her favorites. At 19 months she enjoys pointing to the pictures and being able to identify them herself.

In this Bear book, we are taken on a tour of the Big Blue House by Bear himself. As we travel from room to room, different simple to read words can be found by objects that are very ordinary.

We have read this book on many occasions now and it always amazes me what my daughter picks up on after we read it. I highly recommend this book for the Bear fan in your life!

A Great Way to Upgrade Your Home
I have a new home in Dallas and found this book to be just what I was looking for to help with upgrades in my home. I like that built-in look and used the book to design a television cabinet in the family room and a window seat in an upstairs bedroom. The instructions were easy and I could buy everything I needed at the Home Depot.

I'm sure this book would be a good investment for anyone who wants to upgrade their home on a do-it-yourself budget.

5 stars plus!
I am a designer and recently moved to a loft in Atlanta. Connie Edward's book will be such an asset to me in utilizing my space. Having a very small closet, her ideas and suggestions will be so valuable and easy to follow. This book is for everyone who likes to do projects themselves. Ms. Edwards is an expert in Cabinetry and her book should not be missed. It is an excellent book and tool for Interior Designers to illustrate different looks for their clients.

Beware the previous reviewer!
Take the previous review with a grain of salt- the woman advertises this book on her interior decorating web site and most probably gets a percentage from each sale. She has the same review, word for word, on her web site.

I haven't read the book, so I can't rate it, but I thought those who would be influenced to buy the book based on reading that review should know that the reviewer is not simply "a reader", but someone who may stand to profit if the book sells.

Packed with ideas for every budget and taste
This is a wonderful little book that's packed with great ideas that won't break your budget. The authors suggest using what you have and list good places to find bargains. But they also help you re-think a room and get clear on your tastes before you start. Unlike most decorating magazines and books, this one doesn't leave you feeling poor and envious - it cheers you on and encourages you, even if you have very little money to spend.

BTW, I have no connection to these authors - perhaps the authors put my review on their website. I haven't been to the site.

Beautiful Book
Just like all Running Press books, it is full of beautiful photography. It features the possible ways of using ribbons to decorate your home, to add touches to festive occasions, or to use with flowers. Not every idea is provided with instructions, although some include step-by-step illustration. However, where instructions are missing, there is clear description of the idea.

In the book, ribbons are used to decorate bed linen, blankets, curtains, tiebacks, bolsters, lampshades, photo frames, tablecloths, chairs, gifts, wreaths, flowers, and more. There is also a section on the types of ribbon, and another one on tying bows. At the end you will find a list of suppliers in the USA.

I liked the book very much and enjoyed flipping through the colorful pages. I tried some of the ideas - tying napkins decoratively with ribbons, decorating greeting cards with small bows, sewing ribbons on mats and tablecloths. I have to say I am very happy with the result and planning to use more ideas in the near future.

Great ideas for your home and special occassions
This book is a little gem! It's full of great, simple, low-cost ideas that are still stylish and sophisticated. I'm not a great fan of long crafts projects, and this book fits my needs, as most projects can be completed in an hour or two and require minimal sewing. In addition to ideas for the home, this book offers great suggestions for effectively using ribbons in entertaining. I liked several of the ideas so much that I plan on incorporating them into my upcoming wedding! The last portion of the book gives clear, easy-to-follow instructions on how to make the bows and ribbon roses illustrated in the book. The bottom line: if you're looking for quick, easy, inexpensive ways to dress up your home, dinner table, or flower arrangements, this is a book you won't want to be without.

Forget about those old bed-in-a-bag deals--California Design Studio's gorgeous book, Bedrooms, is ready to help you create a personal, comfortable haven that is totally unique. Dazzling photography combines with suggestions straight from designers to form a book as lovely as it is practical. Finishing with a source guide, you can get started on redecorating right away--although most stores are located in California, there's plenty of national chains and mail order choices as well.

Practical considerations cover adding a home office or bookshelves, as well as appropriate choices for window coverings and mattresses. The sections devoted to rooms for guests and children show special thought for the different concerns in those areas--tired guests deserve a truly relaxing space, while it's important that children's rooms can grow with them (avoid that Pokeacute;mon bedspread--will they like it as teens?) Simple updates made with paint and fabric are suggested repeatedly, making the point that there's no need to break your budget to achieve a new look. However, this book doesn't provide much in the way of step-by-step instructions for those improvements, but certainly, for providing inspiration, it's one of the best. As it's a lightweight paperback, it's perfect for curling up in bed with in the evening. Who knows what changes you'll dream up? --Jill Lightner

A book that will expand the possibilities for your bedroom.
If you feel stumped for ideas on how to design a bedroom, and you have a limited budget, Bedrooms will help release you from that in-the-box mentality that you get from strolling through one too many furniture showrooms that encourage you to buy a complete bedroom set. Do not be fooled by the "(California Design)" in the title, this is not a book of California-esque bedroom design, rather, it's a book of interior design for the bedroom by a collection of California designers. The designs covered range from minimalist, to grand, to traditional, to just plain homey. Certainly, the numerous color photographs throughout represent people who, in most cases, probably spent a lot of money to have their bedrooms designed as shown, but it is not at all hard to imagine how to apply the same methods to your create own dream bedroom even with things you buy at a flea market.

From this book I learned that I could mix and match furniture, not just in the bedroom, but elsewhere, and utilize the eclectic "stuff" I already own to create a comfortable atmosphere. You will not find a step-by-step guide in these pages, rather you will find lovely photos and frequently asked questions covered such as: Should a TV be in a bedroom and how? What can one do with a small room? How can I create a romantic bedroom? How can one design a room that will not look dated too soon? What paint colors are best for a bedroom?

Aside from the design-ideas aspect of Bedrooms, I just enjoy looking at the photos for relaxation.

Excellent resource for ideas and design philosophy.
I am in the final stages of building my dream home and just purchased this book. I only wish I had bought it sooner! This book gives me the confidence to blend my antiques with new surroundings. Diane displays a variety of styles that will withstand the test of time.
