Your Cabin in the Woods by Conrad Meinecke
This book was originally a private printing produced by Meinecke for his friends. It was published in 1945 to offer returning soldiers from WW 2 an opportunity to find peace in the simple life of living in the woods in your own home-built log cabin. But it is so much more!! It is a romantic book of the mind as well. There is a spirit in this book based on Meinecke's wisdom and personal experiences as a young man living in the woods with "necktie Jim" an Indian companion. It may be the greatest combination of building plans and a living philosophy ever written. Even if you never intend to have a cabin save for an imaginary one in your mind, this is the book to buy. Meinecke gets into your heart and soul as he speaks about nature, like Whitman in "Leaves of Grass" and you will never be the same ever again!

Really a spiritual guide
This book is by far and away my favorite all-time book. I have read and re-read it so many times...it is truly wonderful. It is really more of a spiritual guide to building in the woods, although the simple plans are chock full of great ideas. There isn't anyone who loves the "great out-of-doors" that won't love this book.

Amazing, simple, philosophical book
This simply written and quaintly archaic book written in the 40's is a must-read for the dreamer who needs to "go to his cabin in the woods" from time to time to stay sane. He rambles around topic-wise, touching on cooking, water systems, etc. His best advice: take a long time to build. Ten years is about right- He recommends visiting and studying the site for at least a year! From a practical standpoint, his cabins are the northwoods type with round logs and simple notches.

I wish they'd Reprint this one.
I borrowed this book from the Library and love it so much I wanted to buy one to keep readily available. I hope somebody decides to reprint this one. I'd love a copy of my own. It breaks down the Constitution into bite sized pieces into something even I can understand.

A great basic primer on the United States Constitution
I bought this book in high school school in 1956 for a Problems in American Democracy course. I have used it in high school, college Constitutional Law courses, law school courses and the practice of law. It breaks the Constitution down almost word for word and restates it in easy, simple layman's terms. It tells you why the phrase is there, what the citizen gives up under it and what the citizen receives in benefits from it. It alows you to find and understand specific sections of the Constitution and how they apply to you. Every American should have and study this book. It is the best simple explination of this complex subject I have ever seen. The fact that it is out of print and not available, particularly to young students, is a sorry comment on our society.

My Aunt - Esther Findlay wrote this book - a classic
As a young boy - nobody could believe the a family member of mine wrote this book. I used it in government class in Junior High and High School in the 1970's. This book should still be required reading by every student in the United States

Excellent activity ideas
I am a music therapy student and I used this book in constructing activities for music classes at a summer camp. This book had so many ideas for activities with music materials and ideas that were easily adaptable to fit the groups' needs. I especially love that few of these games really have a single winner, so everyone gets to participate and enjoy. I would highly recommend this for music therapists and educators as well as anyone else looking for this type of game for children.

101 Music Games for Children
Being a music educator, I purchased this book in hopes toenhance my music program. I have found it hard in the past to find musical games that young children can enjoy outside of musical chairs! With this book, I will never have that problem. To insure that my students have FUN learning music, we spend the last part of class playing one of these games. It is easy to do because this book provides you with a guide indicating age appropriateness, how long the game takes (5 min., 15 min., 30 min., etc.), specific number of players needed, and instruments and/or props if needed. Oh, did I mention that you don't have to be a kid to love these games? Well, you don't! There are games in here for those competitive music know-it-alls like myself! Did I mention that this book is great for planning parties? Forget the clown, it's usually a rip off anyway! Besides, music and parties go hand in hand! Last, it's a totally great book! ...

Easily One Of My Top Ten Favorite Novels
Suspenseful page turner, full of delicious twists and turns. One of Browne's best efforts. This novel gets my most enthusiastic recommendation.

One of the most exciting revenge-crime novels this century!
This is one of the three most wonderful books written by G.A.Browne when he was at his prime! If you didn't read it yet or you were turned off by the same author's latest but worst book--XX West-- you should get it right away to correct your feelings about this drained up but once so talented writer. His "19 Purchase St.(Rating 10" , "Green Ice(Rating 10)", "Stone 588(9-)" and "18mm Blue(9-)" are all strongly recommended, but not "Hot Siberian(5)" and the latest one(1-).

A superb resource in architectural history
"117 House Designs of the Twenties" is a reprint of the 1923 mail-order house catalogue of the Gordon-Van Tine Company. This crisp reproduction is thus an accurate window into this era in United States home architecture. The wealth of detailed artistic renderings also make this a book of great charm and beauty.

Based in Davenport, Iowa, Gordon-Van Tine was a trailblazer in the field of prefabricated houses. This catalogue covers the company's products in amazing detail. We see cutaway views of homes that reveal the construction technique. We also see plumbing fixtures, lights, and cutaway views of furnaces.

But the heart of this catalogue lies in the detailed floor plans, as well as in the detailed artists' renditions of both exteriors and interiors. This catalogue contains structures ranging in size from a humble one-room vacation cottage to roomy nine-room farmhouses. Both one- and two-story houses appear. The main styles represented are bungalow and colonial revival (the latter including "Dutch colonial" designs), in many different configurations.

The exterior drawings capture many features: columned porches, sun porches, various roof types (gabled, hipped, gambrel), dormers, exposed rafter tails, and more. Equally detailed and charming are the depictions of furnished interiors. This is truly a marvelous book.

Very entertaining look at 1920s houses
I was looking for some reference material for houses built in the 1920s, particularly pictures of various rooms, so that I can restore some rooms in a 20s house to original condition. This book not only has exterior pictures of many different houses, but also lists things like color schemes and construction methods. It also shows pictures of garages, doors, and even manufacturing methods for the houses. The pictures may be in black and white, but they're valuable references. ... this book is an absolute steal.

Hope for working moms
This is a book that I have referred to over and over again to get myself organized and stay organized. Emile Barnes uses a no nonsense approach to get you organized. Her common sense system of using a timer and giving yourself 15 minutes to stay focused on your area of attack is great. I am a working mom with two toddlers. I read this book originally when I got married 7 years ago. I read it at least once a year to reinspire myself and as a constant reference to stay motivated with a busy schedule to get organized.

The best organization book out there!
This book is great. It gave a detailed chore list and told me exactly what to do to organize my cleaning. It was great help with our move, too. There is a section on almost every catagory you can imagine.

Each chapter can be read in 15 minutes, although I stayed up all night to read it... I would recommend this book to anyone who has 15 minutes to spare... If you don't have it, make it. You will have more time, I promise!!! :)

1863: A House Divided

Well-Written and Well-Researched
...We are both teachers and have enjoyed the Young Founders series, which suit middle school and high school readers covering American history. A House Divided is appealing in its fast pacing, sympathetic characters, drama, and detailed glimpse at one moment during the Civil War. Gettysburg, like hundreds of other busy but ordinary little towns in the mid-1800's, was a colletion of homes, businesses, and churches, linked to the outside world by trade and train, until the war marched right through it. Much can be learned through well-written and well-researched historical fiction; it can bring events to life and engage readers, who may then develop an interest in history that might not have been there. I recommend this novel for classrooms as well as libraries.

Brings the First Permanent English Settlement to Life
I was so pleased to find this book! As a teacher, I found it compliments our study of Jamestown and the infancy of what would, in almost two hundred more years, become the United States perfectly. Although a fictional account of one of the boys who did, in fact, come over with the first three ships, it includes actual events faced by actual historical figures...Smith, Archer, Newport, Radcliffe, Pocahontas, and more. The book is well-researched and engaging, with lively dialogue that hints of old-style conversation, excellent detail, action, and adventure. My seventh grade students found the story fascinating as we read it over a period of two weeks. They were as interested in this as much they would be any well-told tale. They learned about the hardships, the struggles and occasional friendships the English forged with the Native Americans, the reasons for the English settlement and the fear of the Spanish, the terrible death of Archer and the wounding of Smith, the sickness and starvation in the "Starving Time", the desperation of the settlers -- all true events -- while feeling an empathy for teenaged Nat and his efforts to become a man in a foreign, difficult world. Some of my students even asked if there was a sequel to this book, so I directed them to history books that picked up after 1609, and they dove right in! What a way to get kids hooked on history! I highly recommend this for teachers of early American history or students who are looking for an teen adventure set in American history!

National Electrical Estimator, 2000
The National Electric Estimator 2000 is a great resource. I have used several of the National Estimator books from Craftsman in the past and have been more than pleased with the quality, this one is no exception. From the estimating tables to the information about various aspects of the electrical trade I was impressed repeatedly with how easy it was to access and use the information. An added bonus is the cd which is included with the book. This cd is the National Electrical Estimator program and contains all of the information that is in the book. This program alone is worth the purchase price of the book! All of the tables are fully editable, from the tax rate to labor and materials costs, this program could be a valuable estimating tool for any small business. I highly recommend this book!

Rob Zombie, front man for the crazy rock group White Zombie, wrote in his introduction to 3 X 3 Eyes that it was full of "koo-koo adventures." If you're thinking "how koo-koo can it be?" then check out this setup: young Yakumo Fujii saves a girl from being mugged on his way to work. He takes her to his job, a local bar where he serves drinks dressed as a woman because he'd get thrown out of school if they knew he was working (but he tells her with a smile: "I'm not really a transvestite."). She turns out to be a three-eyed monster who asks Takumo to help her become human. Along the way he turns into a "super-zombie." This is a fast-paced comic book that will make you smile and giggle all the way through it. Once you finish 3 X 3 Eyes: House of Demons, you will want to give it to a friend so they can share in the fun.

Excellent. Yuzo Takadas drawings and storyline are fabulous!
Yuzo Takada weaves an amazing story about a three-eyed girl named Pai, who calls upon the help of pseudo-transvestite Yakumo Fuuji. They then embark to Hong Kong after a run in with Takuhii a giant bird man. At that incident Yakumo turned immortal for reasons i can not spoil.

3x3 eyes
This is a humerouse fantasy/horror comic. It's full of action and bravery while entertaining the reader with witty remarks and new suprises. The main characters are Pai a three eyed monster who teams up with Yakumo. Together they must recapture the statue that contains the secret of mortality. This is one of a kind series that will start you laughing and on the edge of you'r seat.
