Author Gordon Rhea produced a non fiction book that reads like a historical novel. The reader follows the life of an unlikely soldier that became a true hero for the Confederacy, while also being taken through the Civil War battles of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House in 1864. Mr. Rhea accomplishes a personal interest story along with a definitive work of historical reference. I have traveled to the places described in the book on many occasions, but Mr. Rhea's descriptions of Civil War sites has me planning my next vacation for further Civil War tours. It takes quite a bit to mesh battle descriptions with the ability to generate page turning exitement, but Mr. Rhea accomplishes it in this work.

I have enjoyed Mr. Rhea's previous books, but this is by far his best work yet. This book follows the fortunes of a remarkable soldier from South Carolina who ends up as the unsung hero of the battles that Mr. Rhea knows so well. The book reads like a modern novel and pulls you into the action. I can't wait for the movie!

Casa Adobe is a terrific source book for those contemplating living in an adobe or any other earthen style home. Photographs with informaive descriptions tease the casual reader, while those already familiar with Mexico, Arizona, and the Southwest immediately jump head first into the well-written, beautifully illustrated text. Joe P. Carr and Karen Witynski take you to Sante Fe and the surrounding areas with early photographs of adobe structures. Then you are taken to country and contempory homes and structures that best reflect what Casa Adobe is all about. The last chapter of the book is especially helpful foranyone interested in adobe, stucco, or rammed earth homes. It gives sources and individuals to contact as well as galleries and suppliers. My next purchas will be Casa Yucatan, written and photographed by the same collaborative authors.

My son loves this book as a must read every morning when he wakes up and every night before he goes to bed. We love searching for the mouse and the flea and seeing the movement of the characters before they end up on the bed or off of it. The colors and the change from night to day are so smooth you almost dont notice it.

Spanish is our native language and we speak Spanish at home so that our kids learn both Spanish and English. This book is a simple story with rather rich language, my daughter got 3 or 4 words she had never heard before. Besides, my daughter loves the story and the pictures; she likes to look for the mouse and the 'pulga' in all of the pages.

The language is simple and repeptitive, making this a great book to teach Spanish in Elementary and Middle grades. Illustrations are great. It's also a good book for native speakers practicing reading. I use it as a check-out book for English as a Second Language students, to motivate literacy acquisition.

I don't know what the previous reviewers were critiquing-- what follows is about S Sangl's brilliant and unique book. It is safe to say that in every respect -- text, photos, and production values --- this unique volume fulfills its mission to present the tradition of German(ic) interior design at the highest level. Although the photos are true 'eye candy', this book is intended as serious discourse and rises far above the typical coffee table ballast.

I agree with the previous reader, this is it ... the definitive book on Charleston Farmhouse. Although I think this book is more than a glimpse of the house and garden for those unable to visit, it is a surperb reference for those of us that have visited and wish to recall the house, etc. The photography is stunning, the text is informative. A worthwhile addition to any Bloomsbury book collection.

i stumbled across this book on a beautiful indian summer sunday afternoon....it is a treasure for those unable to physically saunter through the rooms and out to the walled garden that is charleston. all photos in colour, all rooms as they were when vanessa bell, duncan grant, family and friends lived and worked there. inspirational.

Understand, I don't play Wraith. I read it for the background, which I find extremely interesting. So I can't help you on the subject of rules, game balance, whatever. But I can tell you something of the quality of this book.
Perhaps the most suprising thing, right off the bat, is that this is a soft cover. Generally, one does not expect deeply disturbing images to leap from the pages of an oversized floppy book. Consistantly, White Wolf has challenged that assumption, and this is probably the best example everywhere.
When you open it, you will find a two-page black and white image. This image is one of the most haunting pictures I have ever seen. Countless thousands of men, women, and children stand on the shores of a river. Garbed in prisoner stripes, heads shaven, they wait, some standing in edge of the water, some with their arms raised in supplication. There are so very many of them.
There is a single small boat, with a single ferryman, ferrying them one by one into the afterlife. The magnitude, the idea that death is never wholesale, that it is always, always a personal matter, is message enough to be worth the purchase price.
This book is never trivial. It is never "fun". It draws immensely from history, and makes it very clear what is fiction, and what is drawn from a history far darker than that found in any fiction.
The background is superb, the infomation interesting and vivid. Places described are disturbing and realistic. Characters make sense, plots seem feasable.
For many who read this, this will likely be a first look into the subjects described. It is much more intense than they may be used to. It is recommended for "Mature Audiences", and while I think teenagers should read this exact sort of thing, I think care should be taken that they be aware of the seriousness of such a subject.
This is the sort of book that will remain on my shelf,long after the game system fades into obscurity.

I am only 3/4ths of the way through this book, but I can honestly say that it has changed my views on the Burning and has possibly changed me as a person. I've read the history books, but they're nowhere near as detailed as "Charnel Houses". A few excerps shook me.

Even if you aren't a fan of Wraith: The Oblivion, or ANY role-playing game for that matter, you can still get the messege that this book is trying to get across: Never again.

Understand, this is not an expansion for you and your friends to sit down and play after watching Monty Python. In the darkest game of the World of Darkness, Shoah is the darkest corner. The opening artwork is a brutal example of what you'll find in the rest of the book: if it's too much for you, then you may not want to get any deeper.

Shoah: Charnel Houses of Europe opens with a brief bit of history (prompting some to even go so far as to use this section as a textbook) before detailing the Dark Kingdom of Wire: the Holocaust's wraithly inheritors. The book presents the falsified Jewish society that detoured a Red Cross investigation (which, in turn, kept the world blind just long enough for a few million more deaths), the Polish ghettos of Warsaw and their almost-victorious hero, and a Russian camp. These are, obviously, in descending order of darkness, but each are richly detailed and usable for any who think their troupe can handle the content.

Auschwitz is last. It is detailed. It is thorough. If you decide your troupe should go to Auschwitz, it contains enough information to horrify the players: that this is the worst atrocity in human history.

The book is dark, troubling, nightmarish, and easily worth three thousand times the cover price for any roleplayer who knows what it contains. It is very simply the best RPG book I've ever read.

This is a book about Christmas memories as told from the every perspective. Everything from the house's perspective to the people living in the house to the people's pet. I really enjoyed reading this book. The different ways the stories of Christmas are told really makes the book that much better. The illustrations in this book really draw you into the story. This would be a great book to use in a writing lesson on perspective. I really enjoyed the way the author flipped the story around between people, pets and the actual house.

Being a first grade teacher and avid children's literature fan, I came across this book in our school library. The cover was absolutely gorgeous and it invited me to open it up. The author allows you to view how each family member remembers the highs and lows of Christmas, including the family pets. When I read the book to my class, the conversations and discussion tumbled into building Christmas memories and traditions of their own. This story catapulted us into one of the most memorable teaching experiences of my life. I highly reccommend it to anyone who works with children. When I shared this book with other faculty members, each had the same response,"Where can I get it?" I am unsure why this book is not being printed. Perhaps the publisher needs to receive a few phone calls! This book is a million emotion investment!!

Anyone who has any childhood memories at all will love this book, don't read it without a box of kleenex close by

I read this book along with Frank Viola's book "Rethinking The Wineskins" and I found this book to be a bit more easier to follow and more practical. While Viola's book seem to have an heir about it that said "I'm ticked off at the established church and here is why" this book simply offers the reader a candid look at the New Testament model of house churches and how the Bank's are seeking to follow the NT pattern. Bank's is a scholar. You will find in this book a man who loves God, loves people, and teaches the truth of Scripture clearly. If you have read books on house churches and have walked away with a bit of skepticism (as I have at times) than buy this book and you will find that Bank's is truly a brother in Christ who only desires to be like Jesus.

A practical survey of the house church movement. Without bitterness toward traditional models of church, Banks introduces a refreshing model for the household of faith which has its roots in the first century. It is a radical concept for many American Christians because it stands in such stark contrast with the more individualistic, consumer driven model for church which has taken center stage in Western Culture.

Robert and Julia shared from experience when they wrote this book. It is so refreshing to read a book that is about real life, rather than just the theory and doctrine of how house church ought to be. The various testimonies are really insightful.

If you are contemplating leaving the institutionalized church, this book would be a good place to start your journey toward relational fellowship in the home setting.

Hopefully they'll discover it one day and fix it. For now we'll just have to wait to see what other readers really think of the book

This is an alphabetical listing of how to clean just about EVERYTHING! It is a handy reference tool, to help clean those items we don't think about very often, as well as better ways to do daily cleaning. He includes detail listings of items such as fabrics - listing the most common, their characteristics and how best to clean them. His entry on "Spot Removal" goes on for 2+ pages, teaching how to identify the type of spot, as well as the best treatments. Under "Fall Cleaning" he lists 10 items to thoroughly clean on a yearly basis. He even has a listing of things to consider when hiring cleaning help. I bought this book in conjunction with "How to Get Organized When You Don't Have the Time" by Stephanie Culp. They complement each other well, as this book teaches how to clean while Ms. Culp's book teaches time management and prioritizing.

After reading this book, my kids have the urge to go out and become handy, just like Wally. They had a real big intrest in being creative! I was very impressed! The story's main character Clumsy Wally is great!

This is a fantastic story for all the little handy people out there! The illustrations were very well done, and the content was fun and exciting! My children and I loved it!

My kids thought this book was great! They really thought Clumsy Wally was funny, and they would love to have a treehouse like Wally built!
