A Favorite in our House
This book is a favorite in our house! Of course, some nights it's dinosaurs and some nights is Bear! This is a really cute story about how Bear and all his friends see the same shooting star. My son loves it and has loved it for well over 2 years. This book gets read so much, I'll probably have to buy a new one soon!

Nice for toddlers
My son looooves Bear, so this is a hit. Nice story, not too long. Glows in the dark too, so as they get older you can have even more fun. And it ends with them going to bed! Good for going to bed story!

Night time Fun
My Husband reads this book to my 2 year old several nights a week. She loves it! When you turn out the lights or use a flashlight certain things glow on each page. This is one of her favoite books for 6 months now.

Absolutely the Best - Hands Down
This was without a doubt the Best Bible Reading I have come by yet. And believe me! I have searched! We have about 15 bibles in my household, however I have learned more from this book than any yet. I enjoyed reading this book and comparing the verses to the actual bible verses. I enjoyed reading a passage in this book and then immediately reading it from the bible. The passages are written in a basic understandable text. I found myself enjoying that text and then comparing it to the verses in my bibles. No wonder I needed this tool all along. This book has brought out more excitement in the bible than any I have come across. We have been buying the book in bulk and passing our passion along with as many friends and family as are interested. I love this book!

Plenty of Words!
This book certainly does have plenty of words!

A perfect daily devotional.
My life has changed since I purchased The Best of the Bible! Almost every day has had a passage and the corresponding thoughts for the day that have made a huge impact. I am grateful to the publishers for doing this wonderful book.

For anyone who has ever sat thrilled at ringside
Best Seat In The House offers the sports enthusiast a wealth of hitherto published stories of such outstanding sports figures ad Joe DiMaggio, Micky Mantle, George Foreman, and other legendary athletes. Here are fascinating anecdotes featuring Joe Namath, Magic Johnson, Jim Grown, Pete Rose, Shaquille O'Neal, Cal Ripken Jr. and others from Dan Wheeler, a sport fan and broadcaster who spent thousands of hours researching and interviewing these superlative athletes during his twenty year career. Best Seat In The House is a "must read" for anyone who has ever sat thrilled at ringside, or were up in the bleachers cheering their team, or hung on every second of a televised game.

Excellent Read on the Great Legends of Sports!
You here so much about sports legends sometimes you get tired of reading about them...A friend of mine told me this book by Dan Wheeler of QVC was really different...it captured these stars in a real human perspective and suprisingy made them feel more like real people to me than the Icons or Idols the media attempts to build themup to be.....I could not get over the story of Mickey Mantle...One minute I was laughing hysterically....The next I was brought to tears....Very Sad...But it appears The Mick really died in peace! No Doubt, Wheeler knew thse guys like none other in the media....it resonates throughout the book that his relationships were very close with even the great Dimaggio.....I was not a real olympics fan..so I would say that was the only chapter I was not that interested in...But all in all...The best Sport book I ever read! Scott from N.C.

Best Seat in the House: Untold Stories of DiMaggio, Mantle,
As a non-avid sports fan, I enjoyed this book very much. The author did a fine job of relating the personal stories of the names behind the biggest legends of sports. Many people idolize these athletes without realizing that they are simply human beings like the rest of us. I thought the author did a nice job of weaving in stories about his childhood. Readers will also find Wheeler's duties as a QVC show host interesting. I would strongly recommend this book to everyone. It would also make a great gift for a young, aspiring athlete.

Not Your Typical Style Book
BIG CITY JUNK, which was probably in production on September 11, 2001 (it arrived in bookstores a couple of months later), carries a special resonance because of the events of that day. What would otherwise be a lark of a style book appealing to the collectibles crowd becomes a small shrine as well for a piece of the New York lifestyle and psyche. In the course of celebrating the cast aside and disposable, Mary Randolph Carter, the author and photographer caught a lasting, brave, prophetic comment about fear and city living rendered in the temporal medium of a sidewalk chalk message. But she is also onto something else that is so very much a part of the economy and ecology of the city: the cycle of "stuff" in a population intensive, small place. The sociological angle raises this volume in Carter's Junk series above the others.

This is not to say the book isn't fun. It is fun. And it is very fair: Carter gives very specific information about how much things cost (or don't) and where they were found. She provides lists of flea markets and thrift shops in the major metropolitan areas she covers. Her method is to focus on individual collectors in locales like New York, San Francisco and LA, profiling how they find their stuff and what they do with it.

Like a novelist who succeeds in creating a world and staying true to it, Carter has established a vision that makes junk matter. I need open, less cluttered surfaces in my own environment, but when I read the Junk series, I can certainly enjoy that collectible urge.

Junker's Dream
Mary Randolph Carter, aka "Carter", is Queen of all things Junk! Others may use that title, but Carter owns it. The fourth (!) book in her "American Junk" series, "Big City Junk", finds our heroine Carter trapsing through the junk yards, stores and flea-markets of more cosmopolitan outposts. As usual, Carter's unique gift is her ability to photograph junk in its "natural state", and giving the discarded, outdated and seemingly unimportant the artistic presence it deserves. Subconciously, every compulsive junker has always understood the "power of junk", and Carter's "Big City Junk" is a celebration of that understanding. Particularly poignent in "Big City Junk" are Carter's photographs of various paintings, sketches and souvenirs of New York and The World Trade Center. Odd and touching how a few photos of humble junk express that which cannot be said in a million words.

Fun with Trash!
I love this book, and I will admit, I am the subject of one of the chapters in the book (Lost and Found). But I was a big fan of
Carter's books before I met her 2 years ago. I remember the excitement I felt when I saw "American Junk" for the first time.
A woman after my own heart! (I have been making art from junk for the last 6 years.) Thank you Carter (she prefers to be called that), for helping us to see so many fun ways to decorate inexpensively and recylce, reuse, and clean up the environment.
Carter writes in an inviting, cozy manner that makes you feel like an old friend. And I really enjoyed watching her photograph
for my chapter, no fussy rearranging of things, she captures the
images as she sees them and moves on. Packed full of inspiration!

A masterful combo of lush illustration and practical guide
This is like several books in one, a one-stop design bible that I'll keep/refer to for many different things over time. It's:
-a beautiful book of design photography, with captions that teach as well as describe (e.g.,problem-solution format for design principles)
-a well written, very thorough, highly accessible step by step approach to design for every area in and around the home with big spaces. Nothing overlooked!
-an equally thorough directory of architects, designers, products, and resources of all sorts
-a wonderful collection of easy-to-browse sidebars with practical tools and techniques (I especially liked the feng shui tips, lighting designs and punch lists). Bravo!

This is one fantastic reference book.
I am thoroughly impressed with the breadth of information offered in this book. The author includes insights and advice from a wide variety of experts, including designers, painters, lighting specialists, etc. The many different perspectives means there are many different solutions for making your big space comfortable. AND, the book helps you get started by including lists of questions to ask yourself. As an avid reader of magazines (from Elle Decor, Metropolitan Home, Gourmet, Food & Wine, etc) this book is incredibly well done!

Fantastic Source for Decorating Large Spaces
Finally a book for both the non-design professional and interior designer that tackles the problems related to decorating a large builder's home. Big Home, Big Challenge reveals top designers' secrets on how to make large, unintersting spaces feel cozy and inviting. A must for those of you who live in developers' homes who are tired of feeling out of scale with the rooms you inhabit. This book will teach you how to tame the rooms and differentiate them from your neighbors' rooms.

A Great Spooky Book
I bought this book last year for my then 3-yr-old and it was the first book that he absolutely loved. He still consistently chooses this one for a bed-time story. Why? Maybe it's the easy cadence and repetition of the words which allow him to "read" certain parts. Maybe it's the exceptional illustrations that keep us looking even a year later (see how many cat images you can find in the house). And he still laughs at the joke at the end. (I, too, like another reviewer, like the fact that a person of color takes the starring role, yet his race is irrelevant to the storyline. "He was a big man, he was a strong man" but there's no mention of the obvious fact that he's also a black man.)

A great scary read aloud!
My 5 year old daughter has just learned to read and adores this story. She loves the repetition of "He was a big man, he was a strong man" and the pictures greatly complement the text. She and I loved the ending the best. A great scary read aloud that your children will want to hear over and over throughout the years.

Great for learning and scary!
This is a wonderful book! It's great to see people of color in a book that doesn't really have anything to do with race! Kids will be scared out of their socks but there is a great lesson in these pages. This is a wonderful buy for children between the ages of 4 and 10.

No One Believes!!
No one believes me when I say the best seafood restaurant I have ever been to was Bob Chinn's in Wheeling, IL (just outside of Chicago). I was in the Navy and traveled a great deal always savoring the foods. When I was stationed at NTC Geat Lakes, I was introduced to Bob Chinn's and my wife and I made at least a bi-weekly visit there. It wasn't uncommon to arrive 2 hours after opening and find yourself with a three hour wait.

Now we live in VA and remember the days of the greatest seafood ever. You have no idea how estatic I was to find this cookbook searching on the web for similar recipes I have tasted at Bob's.

Even if you have never eaten at the restaurant, this cookbook will make your freinds believe you are the greatest seafood cook in history.

Thanks Bob.

Just Like the Restaurant
For those of us lucky enough to have spent many a night "chowing down" on the out-of-this-world seafood and garlic rolls at this 600 seat suburban Chicago institution, what a THRILL it's been to own a cookbook with all the restaurant's best recipes! While other cookbooks from well-known restaurants omit favorites, due to secret/family recipes, etc... this book spills them all. From my all-time fave, sauteed scallops (in sherry-lemon sauce!!), to the irresistible garlic rolls, it's all here, along with great asides/behind-the-scenes talk and some nice photos. Though slightly simplified for home cooking, the recipes are absolutely comparable to "being there." After regular trips to Chinn's for years, I now live 2 states away, yet can still "savor the flavor" - and without the 2 hour wait. Highly recommended, especially for those who've been lucky enough to experience Bob Chinn's in person.

Great cook book!
I purchase alot of cook book and this is the ultimate seafood cook book. But it has more than that! I took it out from the library and ordered it at Amazon the next day! Recipes are simple with lotsa pictures!

FUN! FUN! FUN!
This is a wonderful book to teach children colors. Kids will enjoy all the blue objects they can spot on every page. Kelly Asbury has created a delightful series of books with "Bonnie's Blue House", "Yolanda's Yellow School" and "Rusty's Red Vacation". I love them all and look forward to more books by Kelly Asbury.

Don't be blue -- this book will cheer you up
This charming little book has the feel of something that seems like it must have been around for many years. It's disarming in its simplicity and style.

Brilliant
It's just fun to look at. Same goes for the other two books in the series. Get all three.

Boo and Baa on a Cleaning Spree

Authors: Lena Landstr”m, Olof Landstr”m, and Joan Sandin
Amazon base price: $9.95
Used price: $6.77

Anyone who is familiar with Boo and Baa's rather chaotic adventures in Boo and Baa in the Woods, Boo and Baa at Sea, Boo and Baa Get Wet, and others in the series, will not be surprised to discover that their attempts to clean house go hilariously awry. When Boo vacuums up his sock, the flighty sheep apply their questionable logic to the problem, deciding to open up the vacuum cleaner and dump the contents of the bag on the just-cleaned floor. "There's your sock!" says Baa, unaware of the cloud of dirt rising to fill the room.

For tots with a thing for vacuum cleaners, Boo and Baa on a Cleaning Spree will be a dream come true. Boo and Baa's hilarious brand of straight-faced humor and silly misadventures have enormous appeal for preschoolers, whether domestically inclined or not. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter

My niece is Boo and Baa crazy!
My two and a half-year-old niece has gone Boo and Baa crazy, and requests the Boo and Baa stories several times daily. She makes up little songs about Boo and Baa, and refers to them even when she's not reading the books. I think the appeal is that the stories are about things young children can relate to, and often have experience of, and the hapless sheep find the world as surprising as little ones often do. They may not know why things happen the way they do, but have fun anyway. Also, Boo and Baa are a boy and girl, and they are portrayed as equals. Both are enterprising, both can get a little scared or apprehensive, and they are not slotted into doing "boy things" and "girl things" respectively, but both can do everything, as opposed to many other children's books. This series is a great choice for young readers!

Adorable book for vacuum lovers
My three year old son loves vacuums. This little book is perfect. You can't go wrong buying it!

If your child loves vacuums, this is the book for you!
I bought this book for my son when he was 2 because he was infatuated with vacuum cleaners. It is a very cute book about two sheep who decide to clean their house. They have some mishaps along the way, but they get the job done. If your child loves vacuums, this book is a must-have. It is one of a very few children's books that mentions the vacuum cleaner! It is a cute book even for the non-vacuum-lover!

The Book of Fine Linen
Published in Paperback by Flammarion (December, 2001)
Author: Francoise De Bonneville
Amazon base price: $30.00
Average review score:

Sensuous and Seductive.
This seductive book is more than an excellent history of fine linen. It is a sensuous and seductively, elegant book! The author, Francoise de Bonneville give the reader more than a lesson on the history of textiles. She presents us with some of the most extrodinary examples of bed linens, tablecloths and napkins. Apart from the excellent section on the social history and care of fine linen, she presents detailed information about the various types of linens used, fibers, color, and weaves. The must sumptous commissions were the set of bedsheets created for American Heiress Barbara Hutton. These pink sheets were made out of silk and trimmed with point de Paris lace, fouteeen inches wide, Which was made by d'Porthault & Co. Examples of the two major Italian linen firms, Frette and Pratesi are also well represented. I agree with my fellow reviewer. This is an excellent gift for a bride; but don't be surprised to learn that men would be just as likely to buy this book as women. It is worth every Dollar!

Unquestionably the best book on fine linens.
This book, written with a forward by the Porthaults (who better to comment on fine linens?), is wonderful and I highly recommend it, price notwithstanding. This book is translated from the French and inlcudes: a history of linens, from chintz to damask; a glossary of embroidery stitches and styles with notations of illustrations throughout the book; and photographs of the finest linens in the world (including many made by the Porthaults). This book is very large and would make such a lovely gift for anyone who collects linens or who does fine embroidery.

Beautifully written with lovely color photos. Fascinating!
This book, translated from the French, is beautifully beguiling in its phrasing. Relates the history and techniques of the production and embroidery of exquisite linens. Photographs are handsome and even the dust cover is worth framing. Makes a great reference book as well as entertaining reading. One of my all time favorites
