A charming tale with splendid illustrations
Miss Mouse's House is a perfectly delightful tale for the wondering child in all of us. The lyrical prose make it an easy read time and again. The illustrations are beauifully crafted and encourage additional conversation with your reader. A great gift for children of all ages.

Great book with amazing illustrations!
I was searching through children's books looking for one to buy for my cousin's baby when I came upon Miss Mouse's House. The title of the book intrigued me and the illustrations drew me in. It is rare to see such an original story with such beautiful children's illustrations. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a great family book - something to share with children, generation after generation.

Volunteer Reader Raves
A small, sweet tale with a big, big message. The illustrations are delightful. As a volunteer reader in area schools, I can't wait to entertain the first and second graders with "Miss Mouse's House."

This book made a difference.
I have always avoided work around the house - to my wife's chagrin. I picked up this book, with the friendly-looking author's face on the cover, and hoped that it might get me to change my ways.
It did.
Not that I can hire myself out as a contractor now, but I can save a few bucks fixing and cleaning things, thanks to Mr. DeLena's tips and techniques.
It was his enjoyable and clear writing style that helped me learn.
Thanks.

Will Not Disappoint........
I purchased this book a few months ago. I find myself looking through it often--not being able to choose which pattern I want to start with!! There is a nice selection of pieced and appliqued quilts in varying degrees of difficulty. It is well worth the price and a great addition to any quilter's library.

Simply Great
This book is a must for fans of 1930's (and later) American quilts. I hope the publisher is planning to put out a second volume!

Cool!! It's a great book!
This book has everything. Beautiful colors, great instructions geared to modern day quilters. Everyone should want a copy!

Hilarious!
One of the great comic reads of all time. If you liked Cary Grant and Myrna Loy in the movie, you will love the book even more. Also look for the equally funny sequel, Blanding's Way--sadly out of print, but easily located on rare book websites.

Why I am buying another copy of this book
I am an architect who designs custom home remodeling projects. I lend this book to some of my clients, for fun, and to help them develop the sense of perspecive that is sooo helpful for living with the million decisions and surprises of remodeling your house. Fifty years old or not, it's a hoot. The movie of the same name, also from the '40s, with Myrna Loy and some famous man, Clark Cable? misses most of the fun of the book.

remarkably wry
more than half a century has passed since this little gem appeared, yet it stands the test of time. why? like all great humor--oral or written--this comedy of errors is firmly rooted in reality. its protagonists stand halfway between hope and fear. we understand their desires, their motivations, their anxieties because they are ours. this is the only book not written by jane austen that has prompted me, repeatedly, to laugh aloud. besides its surpassing treatment of the ever-present human need and struggle for security and comfort, this slender volume also serves as a period piece: in the personage of mrs. blandings, the author quite unintentionally paints a picture of the dominant view of women, in the age before liberation, as fanciful, frivolous, and helplessly dependent. if you check your gender at the door, you'll find this delectation well worth the reading.

Fine Collection Of Children's Literature
This set of books was a part of my childhood, and instilled in me a love of reading that persists to this day. Our particular set was from 1960 and contained only eight of the twelve volumes, but I managed to obtain an entire collection and they are now part of my children's life, too. Each volume begins at a grade level---One being the easiest to Twelve being suitable for high-school level reading. There are selections from some of the finest writers, such as Jonathan Swift, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Rudyard Kipling, as well as fairy tales and folk legends from all around the world, both East and West. The illustrations are gorgeous and some of the monsters quite scary, but there is nothing extremely gruesome or inappropriate for young readers. From the simple and charming nursery rhymes of the first volume to the more mentally and emotionally challenging material contained in the last volume, these books take their reader on a marvelous journey through worlds both real and imaginary. This is a delightful way to open up a child's mind to reading. (For those who find the "Little Black Sambo" story offensive---though he was an Eastern Indian, not African---the versions of "My Book House" published after 1971 do not contain this folk tale from India.)

My Book House - Olive Beaupre Miller
I think I'm a fairly unimaginative and unemotional person -- being a middle-aged engineer -- but when I surfed through a book site and saw a photograph of the books that make up Miller's "My Book House", uncontrollable tears rolled down my face.
It's not just that they were the most important books of my childhood -- although they were. From ages five to about twelve there wasn't a day I can remember when I wasn't curled up with one or more of them. With each book geared for a particular age, I started with my parents reading Volume 1, and then, puzzling through the longer words, I was off on my first great reading adventure.
But there's more to "My Book House" than individual nostalgia. Written in the thirties, the books exemplify the shortcomings of America of that time: White Christian male role models, Western culture supreme, and even (sigh) "Little Black Sambo". It's a one-sided view of life: nothing from the Harlem Renaissance, no Judy Blume, no TS Eliot.
Yet "My Book House" exemplifies the America of that time whose children's books took values seriously, instructed in virtue without being preachy, and always kept a sense of optimism. And if you want to re-capture that sense of optimism and simple virtue (for yourself, kids, or grandkids), get a set of the twelve "My Book House" volumes, and start reading them to your babies. You won't ever regret it, and neither will they.

Opens the whole wide world of reading
As an adult, I can look back and see how artfully Olive Miller designed this set of books, leading from nursery rhymes in the first volume to tantalizing summaries of the most bewitching grown up classics in the last. I can appreciate her eclectic choice of illustrations, too (with Dore doing service for Dante near the end.) As a child, from kindergarten through middle school, I only knew that I could spend hours with these volumes every weekend, and always find something fresh and exciting there. And that I would be left thirsty for more - pointed beyond the Book House itself to Pyle and Stevenson, to Dickens and Thackeray and Shakespeare.

It's a pity and a wonder that after serving American kids over half a century of publication, this cornucopia of pleasure and enlightenment ever went out of print.

A great book of Prayer!
This book has been a source of inspiration and an aid in reflection for me for years. There is a prayer in the book for just about any situation faced in life both negative and positive. A great buy!

Nice Prayer Book
This prayer book is written from a conservative Lutheran perspective, but most of these prayers can be used and appreciated by all evangelicals.

The prayers are worded in modern English, clear, not flowery but reverential. The prayers evidence belief in a Savior Who wants to be known personally. There are several groupings of prayers: morning and evening, Christian living, worship, family life, various occupations, national/international life, sickness, and other categories.

Some of these prayers are adaptable for pulpit use. Great for family devotions and getting out of a rut in ones private life. Sadly, the 235 little pages do not provide a volume of daily prayers. It's a shame this isn't a multi-volume set. We can use more like this! Well done.

A Prayer for every occasion!
Never be without the words to pray. This book has very lengthy and heart-felt prayers for a large number of topics. There are prayers for: the sick, for our country, for holidays like Christmas Eve, for children, for parents, for travelers etc. The list goes on and on and on! It is truly a useful addition to anybody's prayer time. It is also interesting to think that others may be praying the same prayer as you are!

whats up with that
This book only has 86 pages on the site it says that this book has 128 whats up with that is this to political thats why there was a shortage of pages and even books someone get at me.

Read the book and I met the Man
Robert F. Williams is a man who is forgotten in most histories of The Civil Rights Movement. He talked and practiced self-defense before Malcolm X became a household name. He represented the militant leadership that was to follow him in the form of SNCC and The Black Panther Party. He correctly showed the limits of integration and why everyone could not turn the other cheek.A must buy book.

What your history teacher didn't tell you
This is a raw, powerful book about an aspect of the Civil Rights movement that your history teacher was not likely to have told you. Contrary to popular belief, the Civil Rights movement was not all about Dr. King and nonviolence (with all due respect). Robert Williams preached and practiced armed self-defense against the powers that be. Read his story and learn. It will shock and inspire you (this book also inspired Huey Newton and the Black Panther movement). For more about this unsung hero, read Timothy Tyson's "Radio Free Dixie."

Beautiful.....................
I love this book. It gives so many ideas on how to decorate for the christmas season. It's elegant, but not too over-the-top. I absolute love it and recomend her other book also!

Excellent
This book as well as Style at Home are two of the best books to have for your home. As I live very near the store of Nell Hills and have been there several times, I can say that anyone who comes through Kansas City should make the short detour to Atchison for this store. It is well worth your time, and Mary Carol Garrity is one of the nicest shop owners to I've had the pleasure of doing business with!

Deck the Halls, and everwhere else!
This book is another excellent and beautiful example of decorating you can do (and live with) by Mary Carol Garrity! Her suggestions and ideas are wonderful and the photographs are inspiring!

Behind Closed Doors - A Fascinating Look
Mike Bohn has succeeded in opening to the reader a portion of the White House that few understand - let alone acknowledge its existence or function. The Situation Room truly is the "Nerve Center" for the country - both in times of crisis and in peace time. It is a central briefing room for the President, and a contact center for countries around the globe. Before reading this wonderful book, I hadn't thought about how calls to heads-of-state were made on behalf of the President, but now I can see why they would all go through the Situation Room.

If you are a fan of political movies, and want to know the truth behind the Hollywood fiction, or are just a political junkie, then this truly is the one book you want on your shelf!

Life in the WHSR
Bohn, Commander Bohn. Shakes not stirs events in the White House from the Situation Room. He takes the pulse of the Sit Room and displays it with humor and humanity. This is the first account of the people who watch and report on events that shape our world. Well done and well written!

Great view of the White House Situation Room
I enjoyed reading this book on the White House Situation Room. It offers readers great insight and anecdotes behind the scenes of government crises and every day political happenings.

a great book
...All of the kids in room 10 think that all of the teachers live in the school. Until one day, their teacher moves into to the same apartment building as one of the students. The student tries to prove to some of the students that the teachers don't really live at the school, and he does. I think this is a great book and I hope that you get to read it some day too...

Teachers do live at school, don't they?
Whenever my students see my outside of the school setting, they are always shocked. This book is about a boy was sure all the teachers lived at school, ate dinner in the cafeteria, slept in the lounge, etc., until his teacher moves in to his apartment building. Oh no!! He not only sees her carrying out garbage, but sees her wearing sandals that reveal she has TOES!! This is cute for kids (who still may persist in believing teachers live at school), and it would be an ideal gift for the soon-to-be-teacher. Funny text and pictures make this a winner for 6-8 year olds.

Future educator notes importance of Miss Malarkey's life.
If you are a teacher, this book is a must have!! This book shows students that teachers have a life outside of school. How many of us can remember seeing our teacher in an outing in town, and wonder what they were doing outside of school? This book is an EXCELLENT book for the classroom teacher to have.
