Inside the Janitorial Business: How to Start from Scratch and Succeed in Professional Cleaning
Published in Paperback by Mbm Books (June, 1989)
Author: Frederick R. Massey
Amazon base price: $39.95
Average review score:

Outstanding book! Everything you need to know!
If you thinking about entering the professional cleaning industry but are unsure of how to start. This is book is where to start! Estimating, bidding, taxes, employees, sample forms and sample business letter's are included. I have found that most books don't live up to there reviews. I found this book to be the exception.

Excellent How-To Reference with OTJ-Oriented Explanations
I had never performed nor bid for commercial maintenance work and this book helped tremendously. The author has obviously been "in the trenches" and explains real-world solutions and answers to real-world situations and questions - not just theory! In fact, although the book (which I refer to as "the bible") advises against it, I recently started out by landing a nice 30,000 square foot job with a competitive bid (arrived at by using the book's extensive methods for bidding). Well worth every penny! The only negative point one might consider is that the latest revision was published in 1989 so it's a bit old, but one can easily extrapolate and infer to make up for that.

Excellent read for anyone thinking of starting in the field.
This is an excellent book that will take you from the planning stages and well past the initial startup. It gives a valuable outline of the many obstacles you will face as well as offering excellent advice on every aspect of the business. I will refer back to it for years to come.

Is This a House for Hermit Crab

great book for elementary school students!
I've used this book with first and third grade students that are studying needs of animals and animal homes. The students love the predictability of the hermit crab's sounds. It opens up the discussion to habitats and why animals need certain characteristics in their homes. Great book!

A beautifully illustrated book
This is not only an amazingly well-written book, it also has some of the most beautiful illustrations around! Is This a House for Hermit Crab? has a repeating text that kids will soon love to say along with you. McDonald's use of onomatopia is a chance to teach children about figurative language. The repeating words "scritch-scratch" are used to describe the hermit crab crawling along the shore. You can call children's attention to these words by having them scratch a stick arcoss a small strip of sandpaper as these words are read aloud. This book became a read-aloud favorite in my classroom. Another great hermit crab book is Moving Day by Robert Kalan, also available at amazon.com.

A special book for hermit crab lovers.
I think children can feel the feelings of finding a new home, too, when they are reading IS THIS A HOUSE FOR HERMIT CRAB. Another book on hermit crabs with a little different twist is P. HERMIT CLAIMS A CASTLE (also available on amazon.com) in which this hermit crab, Prince Hermit, has the challenge of getting back to his natural habitat after he has been taken out of the tidepool. The environmental message that a marine creature's survival depends on his staying in his habitat makes this book important to children who don't know this and to the hermit crab fans of IS THERE A HOUSE FOR HERMIT CRAB who would like more books to read on this subject.

Wonderful book for kids of all ages
This is a wonderful book for kids of all ages. The reference works in back to museums, internet sites and other books is well done. I recommend this book for any one who has children interested in Knights and Castles!

Terrific Reference for Middle Ages * Art * Theme!
I'm an artist and art teacher, and after discovering this book, I ordered copies for my middle school ART students! While it's an easy read for students of this age (5th through 7th grade), it's packed with understandable text and pictures. It's a great reference for the various art projects that my students are doing as part of our study of the Middle Ages, and the kids have really enjoyed it....

Knights and Castles
Mary Pope Osborne does it again!

Our Family loves the Magic Tree House series. They hit us on many levels. Our youngest loves to be read to, our next just hit chapter books, our oldest is beyond this intro. level chapter books - but loves this series & reads the books over and over.

I am delighted to introduce reasearch ideas in such a non-threatening, inviting manner to my children. Learning and reading is so fun; and this concept sheds new light for a young audience. Not only will this help after reading the MTH series, it will add a new dimension when going on field trips, museums, the library, the internet, etc. I am going to share this book with our elementary school.

Ms. Osborne and her husband take the opportunity to be thorough, while simplifying for young minds - and the illustrations keep a young reader's attention.

Bravo! Keep 'em coming.

I loved it!
I love books during the Civil War period. But this one is my favorite. At first I didn't know if I would like it but I kept on reading and I loved it. If you like books during the Civil War period and romance I would suggest strongly that you read this book

A great book for all
i have read up to book 15 in this series and i love them, but this one is my favorite for many reasons. One it take place before and during the civil war. It talks about all the struggle people had to face during that war. You also get caught up in the family history of th Winslows. I can't wait to read the next one.

Very Good
Ok, I started reading the Winslow series, and I'd have to say that this one was one of my favorites because it had action! If you like action, the Civil War, and romance; read this book!

The Last Wooden House

A Memorable Experience
The Last Wooden House is a sweeping journey through a landscape of fantasy and allegory. Those skimming the surface will uncover a well-crafted tale, but those committed to plumbing its depths will be rewarded for their efforts. The characters are memorable, and they inhabit worlds created from many interwoven layers of meaning. The Last Wooden House is not a book to be read once and placed upon the shelf. True appreciation of its contents comes from multiple perusals, each as enlightening as the one before. In reading it, you'll find the opportunity to plumb your own depths, living, learning, and growing that much more as an individual.

It's A Past Life Experience"
Experiencing The Last Wooden House is like taking an imaginary trip through time and daring to open the mind to learning's of past lives and their potential to effect present day realiy. The Last Wooden House set the stage for me to take just such a trip. I took the adult fairytale adventure through the eyes of Harry, the main character of the voyage. Harry's trail of discovery goes through many lifetimes, during a two-hour tour of The Last Wooden House. This was an adventure into seeing who is looking back from the looking glass, not only for Harry. I am beginning to see it is me, and recongnize where I have come from.

"I have worked in the field of hynotherapy for many years, I tip-toed into Past Life work stating, 'real or imagined, if you receive wellness through this process, so be it.' Through The Last Wooden House, I gained an understanding of the realm and sustaining value of Past Life work and the benefits that can be gained through those discoveries. My thinks to the author, Jann Burner for his insight and courage to keep this work alive. 'We have come for the lifting of the veil,' and to recongnize we are more than our physical selves."

I recommend this CD Book, it's a gift worth keeping and enjoying over again, often.

The Book Stretches The Mind With Possibility And New Insight
This CD book takes the listener to many places and ages, stretching the mind with possibilities, finding new insight with each listening experience of The Last Wooden House.

I recommending owning and listening often to the words of time remembered.

One more rave and a plea to republish!
Yes! Somebody please reprint this book! How wonderful to live in an affordable and cozy, yet expandable, place! My husband checked it out at our library too, and thank the book gods I found it used here. Looking at the state of heart-attack-inducingly expensive/horrendously ugly home architecture these days, we need smart alternatives now more than ever. Leslie Armstrong is our hero!

Attention Homebuilders, Publishers, and Dreamers
If you've only dreamed of owning your own home, this is the book for you. I found this book at the library and it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. My wife and I want to build a house that won't put us in debt for the next 30 years. A house that has room for all our kids now, but won't be too much house when they're gone. No need to hire an architect, the blue prints, material list, and contruction plans are complete. This is a book for the masses. Somebody bring this book back into print.

Please bring this book back, some of you publishers!!
Do any publishers ever read these reviews????? I also got this book at the library and it is priceless for addressing the subject of small homes for people who are not wealthy!! Do any of you know any? Well, I do. This book should be read by every person training to be an architect. Then go and build some small houses of your own imagination. That we can afford. Maybe I can have a home of my own before I die. After I die, it will be a little more difficult to come up with the down payment! Cheers!

The Little Wow! Book On House Investing

Very Helpful Book
After reading several of the "make millions overnight in real estate" books that are on the market, I bought this one. I enjoyed the individual examples given in this book and the down-to-earth advice.

This book WILL NOT make you rich overnight. It WILL describe how you can build a real income and true wealth over a reasonable period of time, with some patience and hard work.

Since buying this book a year ago, I have purchased five houses. It did take some time, it did take some money of my own (although not too much) and it did take some work to get the houses rented. Now I can hopefully pay the mortgages down a bit faster than normal and build equity, which will allow me to have some very valuable assets in my financial portfolio in the years to come.

This is a very helpful book and I recommend it to anyone who is considering the possibility of using single-family properties as an investment vehicle.

What is the biggest check you ever received?
Without a doubt the biggest check I have ever received has been from a real estate transaction. Here, Carlos shows us how simple the formula for wealth really is. What else can you buy that appreciates over time while you depreciate it each year?

Since reading this little book and attending the first seminar my wife and I have bought one house and have another in escrow. At least one a year, hopefully more when the deals are right...that is my plan for a retirement income in ten years!

A "must have" book for real estate investing
This is a "must read" for those getting into the real estate investing market. I found this book to be easy to read and even simpler to understand. Carlos weaves consistent, logical themes throughout the book which stick with the reader and provide a common sense framework for successful real estate investing. The use of real life examples was especially helpful for me as I am still a novice investor. It proved easier to apply his rules for investing on my own potential investments after understanding and learning from his own real life experiences.
The best part about this book is that it has taken the fear of investing in the real estate market out of the equation for me. I am now quite motivated to jump into the home market and buy my first property with the information I have gleamed from this book. The book covers all of the initial fears you can experience about real estate investing and tackles them all. I highly recommend it!

If These Walls Had Ears: The Biography of a House
Published in Hardcover by Warner Books (23 August, 1996)
Author: James Morgan
Amazon base price: $27.00
Average review score:

An often humorous, affecting and compassionate biography.
Jim Morgan gets most (but not all) of his facts straight, approaching his subjects with an affecting blend of humor, compassion, and both human and architectural insights. IF THESE WALLS HAD EARS: THE BIOGRAPHY OF A HOUSE offers up eight families' worth of bittersweet reminiscences, ruminations and recriminations comingled with the author's own personal reflections on this whale of a house. Portions of the book are uneven and a bit awkward as Morgan transitions between the families' and his own perceptions and his narration. But overall, it's an interesting and enjoyable read which should resonate truly with anyone who has ever experienced the mixed blessings of home ownership -- or found themselves haplessly ensnared by a four-walled moneypit.

Ed and Sheri Kramer: Chapter Ten

Meeting the Ghosts in the House
A house is an aggregate relic of all the people who have lived there, recording their improvements or their neglect. The author writes an interesting chronicle of the house's former inhabitants. It's disconcerting to reflect upon the fact that others owned our home before us, and we will leave it to others when we're gone. It's a reminder of how temporary our lives are, in our few hours upon the stage. Each generation, with all its hubris, is only a chapter, or a few pages, within the book of life.

Awesome! What every "old house" owner has dreamed of doing.
Morgan has done here what every old house owner has dreamed of doing: answering the question "what history occurred here before we arrived?" In telling the rich stories of the people who preceded him as owners of this particular Craftsman bungalow in one old neighborhood of a single city, he spins a wonderful tale of our nations's history as well.

The Indentured Heart
Set in pre-revolutinary America, Gilbert Morris does an excellent job in creating the book "The Indentured Heart." This is the third book in the House of Winslow series and Morris hopefully has many more books to come. Morris's "The Indentured Heart" spans the Atlantic Ocean to America to England and then back. The main character is Adam Winslow. The book begins with him as a young boy and then follows him through adulthood and beyond. He is portrayed as a man searching for something. His searching leads him to Enlgand and to Molly Burns, a young girl who has been enslaved in poverty all her life. She has lived a hard life and Adam wants to help her to break free of that kind of inprisonment. Adam offers Molly escape from England to come to America and start a new life, but only if she becomes his indentured servant for ten years. She is then freed from her life of poverty but bound to a different kind of servitude for another ten years. "The Indentured Heart" follows the lives of these two people through a historically changing time in America. Many prominent American historical figures such as Washington and Franklin are active characters in this book. After reading this book I found myself more knowledgable about the events of pre-revolutionary America and to me reading an interesting book is better then sitting in a history class and getting the same amount of information from it. I thought this book was very interesting and a fun reading experience that brought me some education along the way. I look forward to reading more of Gilbert Morris's books.

The Indentured Hear
It's a wonderful book. I owned the entire series. I've had them for over 6 years and I still love to read them over again.

An intriguing story about a girl who faced imposible odds!
When Molly Burns comes to America with Adam Winslow, she is just a little girl. But, little girls do grow up! And soon she finds that she's in love with Adam. But he has given his love to another, or has he? Maybe this girl doesn't return his love. Molly faces imposible odds of trying to win the man she loves, but also begins to lose faith just when he may be starting to care for her as a woman and not a little sister. Will he lose her to another? Now with a war just on the verge of beginning, they may lose it all. I emensley enjoyed reading about all the historical figures and places in this book. I also enjoyed the romance and action. Many of the characters and historical places and plots are historiacally acurate as well! Enjoy your reading!

Some People are blind...
It is an excellent bible, I could find no commentary, only helpful suggestions on what to look for in the scriptures. The 'in text' charts, timelines and maps are a great plus, the best I have found. It could use a larger concordance. Thanks.

NASB is the best version.
I recommend that New American Standard is the most accurate version that is translated from the original holy bible. It is good for everyone even new Christians.

my favorite
It's strange to do a book review on the Bible, but for anyone looking to get into the Word without getting distracted by the commentaries, this is a great version. It's NASB, so it's highly accurate (my only complaint about NASB is that it chooses to distinguish thoughts addressed to God by using Old English, which is a little subjective, not to mention outdated). The margins are huge for taking notes in, the maps and keys in the back are helpful, the fact that subject headings are not included encourages analytical thought, and the cross-references and concordance are fairly thorough. The page layout is reader friendly as well. I examined a lot of Bibles before purchasing this one, and I love it.
