A Great Reading of the Bible
The New Living Translation is "half way" between The Message and the New International Version. It is a very good translation if you are looking for something "thought-for-thought" not "word-for word" (in other words, it is more like The Message than the New American Standard Bible). The voice on this reading is very pleasant and gentle--a very mature voice. The quality of the sound is good but a little soft. The only thing I don't like is that the pronunciations of the people's names and places are not "correct"--they are very "Americanised" and nowhere near the probable originals. This is not a great factor since no one really knows the exact, correct pronunciations anyway. The 61-CD set covers the OT (46 discs) and NT (15 discs) and are packaged in a fairly nice CD carrier. (If you follow the reading with your NLT paper Bible you may notice that some words are different but there are no significant differences.)

There is more reading than dramatisation, which is a good thing since the reader's voice is pleasant but the "actors' voices" are not as nice. The background music is fairly simple and fades in and out every few minutes and is fairly well done although the tunes are about 20 years' old now. What can be irritating is that they sometimes use the same tune over and over during the same book--the book of Romans is particularly irritating in this regard.

Overall it is an excellent buy and worth every cent. The good things far outweigh the bad things about it.

Great Investment!
This is the Old & New Testament version, 61 CD's in all. The dramatic multi-voice recording helps make the stories of the Bible even more exciting. I would recommend this to anyone who spends a lot of time in a car (especially to and from work) or just doesn't find the time to sit down and read.

Great cd collection
The Bible (New Testament) becomes powerful and alive
when listened through your speakers. I have not stop listening
to the Holy WORD on cd since I received it a few days ago.
It is a powerful tool that will allow you to hear and understand
the WORD with clarity. Although it will not replace the written
WORD in book format, it is a great supplement for those with
limited time.

A Wonderful Book
This is the most easy to read & comprehend book about houseplants that I've ever seen. Each plant is shown in color and rated on an very easy - very difficult basis, which is extra important when deciding on which plants to purchase. The book tells you commom problems of each plant and tips & hints on how to care for them. I check with this book before I purchase ANY plant!

A must buy for the houseplant lover!

We now have plants that are thriving!
Before this book, the few plants we had were just barely surviving. Plants received as gifts invaribly died. It was horrible.

Then we got this book. We have filled our house with a variety of planets and our plants are doing extremely well. We now give cuttings and detailed care instructions to other people who love plants. Evans' book is very easy to use, it is an extremely attractive book with a color photo of each plant, and we consult it all of the time both as a reference and as guide to which plants we would like to add to the house. It is a pleasure just leafing through this book!

Comprehensive help/advise
This is a great reference book for all levels of houseplant lovers (I have about 30 houseplants spread throughout my small house). I think the most useful part of this book is how the author rates each of the 200+ plants referenced as "Very Easy, Easy, Difficult, Very Difficult." These ratings refer to the ease (or difficulty) in growing these plants indoors. I've already consulted the book probably a dozen times before buying a particular plant, i.e., if I know a plant is going to be "difficult" or "very difficult," I usually think twice about the amount of time and work that might be involved with sustaining the plant.

In addition to ranking the plants like I've described, the author lists common problems associated with each plant, the fixes for these problems, how to proprigate, the average life-span, where to place the plant, how big/small you can expect the plant to get, and much much more information.

I'm a plant lover and consider myself knowledgeable on houseplants, but I get this book out at least once a week to either reference something about my existing plants or plan my next purchase. I enjoyed this book so much, I recently purchased one as a gift for my mother, who is also a plant lover.

If Amazon has this book in stock (it frequently goes on backorder I've noticed), get it. You won't be disappointed.

Complete Home Style Book
This is the best design book I've ever looked at. All of the pictures and diagrams make it so wonderful. With all those pictures no one would have a hard time tring to find a perfect design to fit there room. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs some ideas for a room. I just love it!

Most Modern
It is amazing how you can change a space in your home when you have a picture of exactly what you want to recreate. Your home is the place where you can take full control of your surroundings.

We bought our first house last year and I really have had trouble figuring out what exactly I want to do in certain rooms. I found Pier 1 to be a favorite hang out, but seriously, you have to figure out what your personal style is going to be and this book does help you see what appeals to you.

I'm definitely in love with the Antique tub in a nostalgic bathroom complete with a fireplace, but it aint gonna happen! I also have visions of a grand piano and built in bookshelves and a fireplace and a Persian Style bedroom complete with plenty of pillows for the cats to lounge around on.

For cooks, you will enjoy seeing Elizabeth David's comfy kitchen complete with a cat. In fact the kitchen section in this book is a real highlight. There is a family kitchen plan on pg. 64 which is just spectacular.

The chapters include:

Kitchen - the best part of this book!
Living Area - Cushy couches, please.
Bedroom - Clean Lines and open spaces
Bathroom - Whirlpool baths with a view and some amazing children's bathroom ideas.
Home Office - The second best part of this book!
Ancillary Space - A utility room plan to die for!
One-Room Living - Reminds me of my first studio apartment!!!
Planning Details - A section on worksurfaces in the kitchen is useful.

Great for Inspiration BEFORE you build your own home or for getting ideas on how you want to remodel areas of your home. Also useful for planning how you are going to fill up that big empty room.

Modern Designs, Creative Design Solutions, Dual-Purpose Offices and Small-Space Bathrooms are also a feature.

Yes, Modern Style about says it.

It's all in the details!
Although no book can be all inclusive, this comes close. Diagrams and photographs are plentiful in this book. From kitchens to wall coverings, everthing is explained in depth. This book even contains diagrams on how low your bedside table should be compared to your bed! We are talking details! This book explains things that other books have taken for granted! Enjoy!

Miracle Guide to construction accounting
I am a systems manager, and know nothing about accounting. However I did know that my husband's construction firm was not using QuickBooks Pro properly. Amazon's helpful search engine suggested that I might like Contractor's Guide to Quickbooks Pro 2002. Amazon sure was right. This book quickly and simply explained how to set up a construction company's accounts and helped me turn two years worth of mis-input data into reliable reports. It also helped me develop a 10 page guide for the company's staff to use when entering invoices and payments.

The authors also have telephone support for reason prices although I have not yet needed to use them. They will also convert a Company's Quickbooks accounts into their suggested standard for a pretty reasonable fee.

I would highly recommend this book to small and medium sized construction companies. The book is wonderful, especially for non accounting types.

EASY TO FOLLOW FOR THE ACCOUNTING LAYMEN
I PURCHASED THIS BOOK WHEN ALL ELSE FAILED. FOR THE LIFE OF ME I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE QUICKBOOKS FOR MY HUSBANDS CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS. QUICKBOOKS FOR THE CONTRACTOR GIVES YOU THE INFORMATION YOU NEED IN THE TERMS THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.I FOUND THAT THE HELP MENU IN QUICKBOOKS WAS BASED ON A MAIL ORDER COMPANY AND DID NOT GET THE QUESTIONS I NEEDED ANSWERED.I RECIEVED THE BOOK, READ IT COVER TO COVER AND USED IT STEP BY STEP FROM ESTIMATING TO TO PAYING JOB MATERIAL BILLS.
IT WAS SO EASY AND THE BEST PART IS THE BOOKKEEPING IS RIGHT!!
FINALLY!!
I HIGHLY REC0MMEND THIS BOOK TO ANY SELF EMPLOYED CARPENTER OR CONTRACTOR WHO IS HAVING TROUBLE WITH QUICKBOOKS.
ALSO IT COMES WITH A DISK THAT MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO IMPORT ESTIMATES FROM NATIONAL ESTIMATER. THERE IS EVEN A DEMO TO SHOW YOU HOW. GREAT BOOK HANDS DOWN

A straightforward, easy-to-follow guide
Collaboratively developed and written by Karen Mitchell, Craig Savage, and Jim Erwin, Contractor's Guide To QuickBooks Pro 2002 is a straightforward, easy-to-follow guide for setting up and using the QuickBooks Pro 2002 accounting software to expedite one's construction business. Meant expressly for contractors who may be lacking in familiarity with computer software programs, the individual chapters address the basics of using QuickBooks Pro 2002, setting preference, using it to track workers' comp costs and other expenses, recording receivables and payables, keeping track of one's customer base and much more. Delightful
Yvonne Peramaki in her debut novel "Cookies at Nana's House" has penned a collections of easily read and timely child-oriented short stories. The author's use of animals and their interesting names will keep young readers captivated. "Cookies at Nana's House" is a book that you can read to your children or hand over and let them read to themselves. The book aptly touches on many issues that children face daily. God Bless you Yvonne Peramaki.
Beverly J Scott author of Righteous Revenge

Evelyn Horan - author, Jeannie, A Texas Frontier Girl, Book1
Cookies at Nana's House is an interesting and "attention-holding" book for young people. The animals and their realtionships are real. The children can relate to their experiences. The lessons of tolerance and understanding of others is gently presented in an easily acceptable way so that children will remember and make appropriate personal decisions in their daily experiences with others. A wonderful read for children and grown-ups also!

Erika Michelle author of Heaven's Fury On Hell's Cafe
Children of today need books like this.
The author has created a book that teaches the young
reader good values. I think by using animal characters,
the children will be able to pay attention to this story and learn something positive from it.
I give it five stars... a great read for children.

The Complete Dovetail: Handmade Furniture's Signature Joint
Published in Paperback by Independent Publishers Group (December, 1999)
Author: Ian J. Kirby
Amazon base price: $14.95
Used price: $7.45
Average review score:

A week in Ian Kirby's shop
Woodworking magazines are forever publishing articles describing methods for making dovetail joints. There are articles on router jigs for dovetails, home made jigs for dovetails, dovetails on the table saw and dovetails on the band saw. None of that is in this book. Nevertheless, the title is not misleading. To Ian Kirby, those methods have nothing to do with dovetail joints. So, absent those table saws and jigs, how can he do 151 pages on four simple hand-made joints. Well it is easy if you consider this book not a treatise on joints, but the essential textbook for a hands-on weeklong beginning course in woodworking in Kirby's shop. Mr. Kirby is obviously a teacher. The book focuses on the smallest detail, from how to mark the face side of a rough board you have just prepared with a hand plane, to how to stand when you pare horizontally with a chisel. In these small details, Mr. Kirby is precise and opinionated. I can easily invasion enthusiastic disagreement over these details with other classically trained master woodworkers. But only the most thorough understanding and elegant skill could give one the right to disagree. The writing style is as simple, straightforward and precise as the joints it describes. The illustrations and pictures are clear and explanatory. Nevertheless, Mr. Kirby often presumes on the reader's woodworking vocabulary and knowledge of drafting. The book sometimes expresses the impatience of a master who sees the subject clearly and cannot fathom the student's incomprehension. If your woodworking ideal is cutting gnomes from plywood on a scroll saw or running out to buy the latest laser-guided nuclear-powered jointer you just saw "advertised" on the "New Yankee Workshop" this book is not for you. But, if you want to learn how to quickly and precisely create dovetails with simple hand tools, and you are willing to actually do the exercises Mr. Kirby prescribes, buy this book. A last word of caution though - know how to sharpen your tools first.

Unbelievable detail & great diagrams
Kirby does an outstanding job of describing the necessary steps to making a hand cut dovetail joint. Actually, many of his lessons are also applicable if you're using a router to machine your dovetails. I've read other articles that only explain the principle, but they fail to cover topics such as squaring your wood, and the principle behind techniques. Kirby covers every aspect of the making the dovetail joint. He differs in opinion with other authors, but his method obviously works. This is a fantastic work for anyone looking to learn hand made dovetail joinery.

the best guide for hand cut dovetails
Thank you Ian Kirby! Thank you. I am new to woodworking and was fascinated with the hand cut dovetail. I purchased Ian's book a few month ago, and it was easy to read, complete and authoritative. I'm sorry, but you cannot learn how to dovetail from a three page magazine article. This book is comprehensive, with good photographs. I did Ian's practice joints, then made a bookshelf joined with dovetails. They turned out great. Then I walked into a master woodworking class and the project required hand-cut dovetails. It was quite intimidating but I was confident in my dovetails. I even brought the book along. My dovetails were gorgeous - the best in the class! The project went great. Ian Kirby is the best! He is a master of woodworking and his book reflects this.

A great step-by-step teaching guide to decorating your home
This book starts with the sewing basics that many of us may not have been interested in learning until we actually had our own place that needed to be decorated. So, if you don't know the first thing about sewing, but would like to learn you may want to purchase this book. I think it has the best sewing instructions of any book that I've ever seen before. Or, if you want to know the proper way to wallpaper, paint or set tiles, the instructions are all here.

The excellent attention given to detail, and the clear pictures makes this one of the very best practical teaching guides on the market today. There are chapters on Curtains, Shades, Bedding, Cushions, Simple Upholstery, Tiling, Table Linen, Lampshades, Painting, Wallpapering, Lighting and Houseplants. The directions are concise and the photographs show all of the projects step-by-step.

This book is so good that I've purchased two to use as gifts.

A Very Practical Reference Guide
I borrowed the book from the library and found it to be an excellent reference. The step-by-step directions with pictures give guidance to those who want to complete "do it yourself" home decorating projects. The book covers so much, from basic sewing techniques and terms to making your own lampshades. This is one I want to purchase.

Fantastic resource
Great resource for home decorators. Shows how to make different styles of curtains, tablecloths, bedspreads, etc., faux finishing painting techniques, wallpapering, staining, etc.

I borrowed it from the library and am now looking to buy it - it's that good.

Good for beginners
This book gives an excellent overview of what it takes to build a barn, from choosing the type, to preparing the gound, to hiring sub-contractors. Althought the plans can hardly be said to be "complete," they do give a good idea of how different barn styles go together. You'll still need someone knowlegeable in buidling to help you in the actual construction. The plans include several innovative barn types and shapes. I particulary liked the circular barn with a jumping/training track on the perimeter, the stalls inside that and the "aisle" in the center.

comprehensive coverage of what to keep in mind for your barn
Great resource for providing solutions on roof pitch, stall size, layouts, light, storage, etc. Also helpful in determining storage requirements for hay, compost, & farm equipment.

Terrific barn designs in a great book
As an architect I pick up this book whenever I need inspiration. If you're planning to design or build a stable, you'll find yourself using this book again and again. It's a countrywide survey of creative designs for equestrian buildings. The buildings are presented with plans, photos and concise descriptions.
