Great Translation in a wonderful format
This would be a great gift for someone looking for a new Bible. If you don't feel the need for 40% of your Bible to be study notes but don't want just straight text this one's for you. Of my many Bibles, this one's my favorite.

A great translation!!!
I have loved reading this translation of the Bible. It has brought me closer to the Lord because it seems as if He speaks to me clearly through the text.

It is important to note that this is a TRANSLATION and not a PARAPHRASE of the Bible. It attempts to convey the meaning of the original texts to the reader. The translators have done well to create the same impact the scripture had to it's original readers by translating entire thoughts into everyday English.

I have received a great benefit from this translation of the Word of God, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone interested in reading the Bible.

this is the best book ever
you have to read this book...it contains many insights among other things..plus it's the word of God

simply life-changing
I bought this book at a homeschool conference about 15 years ago. It literally changed my life. I have fond memories of sitting down at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and my "Bonnie" book. Bonnie became like a friend, offering great advice and encouragement. Her writing style is warm and uplifting. She made me want to succeed at organizing my home. I learned how to organize my kitchen cabinets, and ever since my mom has recommended ME to organize the kitchen when someone in the family moves! And I was the family "messy!" Her suggestion on implementing Minimum Maintenance made the difference for me in keeping my house clean and presentable. I highly recommend this book for anyone who struggles as I did with managing all the STUFF/CHORES in her home.

Wonderfully Helpful for the Disorganised Homemaker
I just loved this book. I would give it ten stars if I could. It was so full of down to earth and helpful advice and very entertaining to read. There were hints on clutter clearing and how to tackle a home that has got a bit out of control. Lists of daily jobs and what Bonnie calls minimum maintenance were a great help. If you find it hard to keep on top of the house and it seems forever in a cluttered mess (like mine) this is the book for you.

It'll Change Your Life
I first read this book about fifteen years ago, and it had such an impact, I re-read it about once a year. It's almost time to buy one that's not so dog-eared. Bonnie's way of doing things are down-to-earth and fit into real life. Her knack for organizing things shows in the way she has organized her thoughts and methods. This book will make a difference in your life.

Bruce Goff: 3 Houses (3 ViewMaster Reels Only)

Brilliant Use of Forgotten Medium
Michael Kaplan has done a very impressive job using 3-D photography in exploring the wild Frank Lloyd Wright on acid exteriors/interiors of Bruce Goff homes. All the photos (seven per reel/home) exploit the simulated depth of the 3-D camera with a deep focus that allows a better insight on the construction of these unusual homes. The spiral staircase in the Bavinger House will almost make you gasp.

These make a great conversation piece for the home....

These 3-D views are wonderful
I live in Bartlesville, OK and so was lucky to visit Shin'enKan twice before it was tragicly destroyed. The second time was a long Christmas party several weeks before the fire, where we had a evening-long chance to get a feel for what a Price party might has been like - including a chance to lounge in Mr. Price's study. These views bring it all back and show the similarities between Shin'enKan and other Goff works.

Goff is perfect candidate.
This is a super cool idea and Goff is the perfect architect to start a series/craze such as this. If you don't buy these reels, at least check out some traditional publications on Bruce Goff.

Excellent
I found this book to be very useful in building my first piece of log furniture. In fact my first project is a log bed (under construction at this time). There are few resources available that teach you how to build log furniture. Dan and Les have written a no nonsense book with detailed information on wood, tools, finishes and etc. The plans are reasonably clear and concise and there are lots of tips that can help reduce the "ooops" factor when building your first piece of furniture. The tools required are simple and fairly inexpensive. If you want to build your own log furniture then buy this book. My only negative coment is that I wish there were a few more projects to chose from.

Build Your Own Log Furniture by Les Smith , Dan Swesey
Being a beginner this book gave me alot of ideas and step by step insturctions and choices that other books did not.

Wonderful "Talk right to you" book
Les has the ability to make it sound as if he is talking right to you in this book. I have just taken an interest in rustic and log furniture and was very happy to get this book from e-bay,and he included his signature!.
The book has several different suggestions, not making one way the only way to do things.
thank you les for your wonderful guidience as I start my new hobby!

Best book on verancular architecture ever
Without qualification, this is the greatest account of vernacular architecture, indigenous shelter, and traditional folk-built home images ever published. And it won't likely be surpassed, since fanatical photographer Yoshio Komatsu spent 25 years travelling the globe to document the full jaw-dropping variety of shelter on earth. He's been EVERYWHERE. I can't think of a remote region of Asia, Africa, South American and Europe that he missed; most of the styles are new and stimulating to me, and I've been around. While the classic small tome of Architecture Without Architects hints dreamily at this diversity, Built By Hand completes the thought by explicitly celebrating this abundance in vivid in-your-face technicolor. It's in a different league from all previous vernacular architecture books. This one is a stupendous 480-page cornucopic tome overflowing with 700 photographs, and thousands of details, hopes, and design ideas. Totally breathtaking, totally awesome! If this doesn't get you to grab a hammer, nothing will.

Ultimate Book on Vernacular Architecture
There has never been a photographer of buildings like Yoshio Komatsu. He's been shooting photos around the world for 25 years now and this stunning book is the result. It's a spectacular photo journey, like a film, around the planet, giving you rare glimpses of shelter in every corner of the earth. The photos are absolutely wonderful. Text and editing are by straw bale gurus Bill and Athena Steen, and Eiko Komatsu. This is like an updated, expanded, technicolor, improved-upon Architecture Without Architects. Wow!

Celebrating traditional architecture
The collaborative effort of Bill Steen, Athena Steen, and Eiko Komatsu, and enhanced with the photography of Yoshio Komatsu, Built By Hand: Vernacular Buildings Around The World is an eye-catching collection of colorful photographs celebrating traditional architecture constructed by ordinary homesteaders. Very little text distracts from the beautiful layouts of dwellings, in this inspirational celebration of human effort and ingenuity. Built By Hand is a unique, impressive, and very highly recommended addition to any personal, professional, academic, or community library Architectural Studies collection.

Makes it look simple
Makes it look pretty simple and straightforward.
I hyaven't done anything yet.
Although I have found a slip up in the book; They recommend using this one form of foam insulation for the basement wall but then neglect to tell you how you are supposed to run wires through it.

Clear and concise
Book has many clear pictures and covers all areas of remodelling a basement. Easy to follow with lots of help. This book is cheap and all you need.

Wonderful
If you are staring down a flight of wooden basement steps leading to the cells where you keep your crazy aunt, and if you are wistfully picturing a cheerful downstairs game room with lots of clean, well-lighted spaces where the kids can scalp each other, where Bud and Sis can take their dates to play Twister with lime Jello on those nights when Mom and Dad are out at the shooting range, meaning you're contemplating a full basement renovation, BUY THIS BOOK. It will save you thousands of dollars, hours of anguish, and it may save your sanity.

Even for hardened do-it-yourselfers, the task of renovating a basement is dirty, dark, and difficult. In this case, knowledge is not only power but illumination. This book takes you by the hand and shows you how to do each step.

This is a damn good book.

A lot of Choices in choosing B&B
I used this book when I drove through England, Scotland and Wales. This book is full of choices and information on B&B. A better or more informative map may be added, or you have have a detailed road map.

This is a fine guide which I've used for many years.
For many editions, we have used this great book as a method of choosing B&B's in the UK. Only once in about a dozen trips and 30-40 different B&B's have we been disappointed, and that one didn't appear in the next edition. It was a case of an old couple who had slipped into senile problems. We have been to some of the choices over and over. We have made good friends with some of our hosts and exchange letters with them. If you want quality places to stay at moderate prices, this is the book.

Outstanding guide that was invaluable in planning my trip.
Excellent photos and info in this book. I ended out heading to many places just to stay in a B&B that looked nice. I was only mildly disappointed once during a two week trip and completely happy with every other choice that I made.

True life of a rural veterinarian
As a farm kid and a veterinary student, I found this book to be extremely realistic and funny. I enjoyed his stories recalling veterinary school and farm calls. Dr. Lucas tells it how it is. It is a good eye opener for people interested in large animal veterinary medicine and the life one has because of it. If you come from a farm you will certainly enjoy this book.

Perceptive, funny, wonderful reading.
James Lucas is a seasoned veterinarian playing his trade in southern Iowa for more than 36 years. He kept notes of his experiences with the people and animals he encountered throughout his career. In Birth In A Chicken House, Lucas draws upon those personal reminiscences to spin out his humorous true-life tales that will engage the reader's rapt attention from first page to last. Highly recommended reading for anyone who loves a good yarn well told, Birth In A Chicken House provides perceptive and very funny descriptions of the animals and culture, the beauty and history of a rural farming community, and the dedicated veterinarian that served their needs.

a must for short-story lovers who need a laugh
Birth in a Chicken House is a great read for anyone who has experienced life in a rural setting, and it's a must read for anyone in the 50s' plus era. As you read the stories, it's as if Dr. Lucas is sitting across the table from you telling a story. He writes it just like it happened. I found myself laughing out loud many, many times as he related his personal accounts of people and animals...I think almost everyone can identify with his experiences. The short story format makes it a great book for busy people to pick up for a few minutes and read a story. However, once you start reading it, you'll probably not want to put it down.

Great Book, lacking a shrimp/spinach dip reciepe.
Great book, I use it all the time. I've used ever reciepe at least twice. I was just disappointed because a friend of mine has a cookbook she order from the movie that has a shrimp dip w/spinach in it. I bought the movie but I didn't have an order form in my video cassette box. But if you like shrimp every way you can think of then this is the book for you.

Bubba Gump Rules!
I bought this book for my Dad after we had a terrific experience at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant in Charleston, SC. My Dad is very ill and on oxygen, but the trip to the restaurant really perked him up. He loved the dish he had there, and the chef was kind enough to come out of the kitchen and tell Dad how to cook it! Although the book doesn't have that specific recipe, it has dozens of others just as good.

How to please a teenager!
We found this book at our local library and our teenage son immediately "locked on" to it. He loves Bubba Gump as well as the recipes in this book. He has taken such an interest in it that he has learned to cook from it. His favorite recipi is "Bubba's Beer-Batter Shrimp." He prepares it in a fondue pot and our entire family reaps the benifits. My husband and I prefer the "Shrimp and Feta Vermicelli." It adds a little adventure to cooking with shrimp. The variety of recipes in the book make it a "sure thing" for shrimp lovers.
