moving doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg.........
It was great to come across moving advice just at the right time in my life. I'm a single gal packing it up to try something new. After reading 29 Days to a Smooth Move and realizing I wouldn't have to sacrifice any limbs as collateral to pay for moving expenses, my plans were set in motion. I followed the book's recommendations and saved a considerable amount of money on my move.
And the chapters on saying goodbye- priceless. The suggestions made me think about how i was going to go through with it. The helpful hints made the transition a whole lot easier than i thought it would be. So, if you're planning a move, local or long distance, but might be anxious about all that goes along with the idea, this is a must read!

This book will keep you "moving right along"!
I would have had no idea what I could and could not pack in a moving van if it wasn't for this book! The worst part of moving is cleaning and sorting, and the tips in 29 Days made the process easy and helped keep me on track. I never would have expected it, but this book had me in stitches the whole time, which made moving much more enjoyable. If I ever move again, the first thing I'll do is get out my copy of this book!

A Great Moving Resource
Especially helpful in "29 Days To A Smooth Move" were the chapters about moving pets and getting situated in a new community. Plenty of room and prompts so I could keep my own "to do" lists along side the practical advice. Both the authors survived cross-country moves themselves and tell some funny and informative stories, too.

Great book-easy to follow-intelligent,no-nonsense advice.
I finished this book two days after receiving it and found it to be very motivating. I have not only customized an "active wellness" plan for myself, but also for my son and my brother. The guidelines in the book are easy to follow for basic good health (no fads or hype found here!).

A comprehensive and thoughtful guide to feeling good
A comprehensive and thoughtful guide to feeling good and getting fit, "Active Wellness" has helped me achieve a greater sense of well-being. Thanks to this book, I've become a healthier, thinner, less-stressed-out individual. Plus, check out the luscious recipes! They'll help you ditch junk food and not even miss it.

EXCELLENT
I received the book on a Friday and by Saturday evening I had completely read this book. Not only is this book easy to understand, it is motivating and uplifting. I think its the concept of goals-- why should we approach our "Wellness" plans any differently than our financial plans. They both require short-term and long-term goals. Over the last three weeks I have followed the program, which I customized for myself, and I have lost about 4 pounds and I am now going to the gym three times a week and doing cardiovascular workouts for 45 minutes (that was unheard of for me a month ago), but I realize to reach my goals I've got to do these things. Active Wellness teaches you to realize this and helps to give you the inspiration you need to get going. I am truly pleased with this book. It has even taught me how to manage my stress in my daily dealings through meditation and visualization. It truly is an mind-body-spirit connection to achieving any goal for yourself. Definitely worth the read and implementation into your life.

Heart warming and fun storys!
Reading books is fun, but reading one where the characters jump off the pages is even more fun! I feel like I can hear the decorations talk and hear the kids in the house. Great writing, I hope there will be more! My kids love it, too! A great gift for friends with children. I add them to baby shower gifts for mom to enjoy before and after baby arrives.

Even the Decorations have a Story to Tell! You'll Love it.
A great book for helping kids living overseas understand North American holidays. The decorations come to life and their adventures explain the meaning behind the holiday. A fun way to get insight into family celebrations. Easily readable out loud or by elementary children. A perfect book for Grandma to send to grandkids especially if they live outside the US.

There is no other book with complete closing information
I read this fine book, that is so correctly titled. This book is "All About Escrow and Real Estate Closing." Every aspect of the closing from pro-ration of taxes, title insurance, holding title, and closing statement are included in this book. In addition there is an appendix which in 1 paragraph for each of the 50 states outlines the settlement procedures in each and every state. There is also 10 pages of blank forms in the back of the book, which are suitable for copying and using. The book is easy to read taking a complicated and foreign subject and breaking it down and explaining it. It comes as no surprise that this book is used by real estate schools and professionals. Every real estate professional should have a copy and read it as well as use it for reference. If you ever had questions about a real estate closing, those questions are probably answered by this book. If you are only ever going to buy one or two properties this book is going to be over kill, but if your plans include buying multiple properties and you are a real estate investor, then this book will be a helpful tool in your real estate toolbox.

The illustrator is Dave Patton, who also did fine work in Leigh Robinson's excellent book "Landlording".

My only reservation is that some aspects of settlement are handled differently in different states and locales, that everything could not be covered in this book. There is no standard for settlements in different states and some states use different documents. Also some states have a simultaneous closing whereas others have the buyer and seller go to settle at different times.

Delivers More Than Promised!
I ordered All About Escrow to explain a few questions I had on closing costs. I was surprised to find that this clearly written book explained to me everything from how to write a purchase agreement, what to look out for, and followed the purchase all the way through to the final closing day. I referred this book to a friend who wanted to purchase a house from a neighbor without using a real estate agent, and All About Escrow detailed exactly how to proceed.

All About Escrow outlines the Who, What, Why, When, and How of any real estate purchase better than most real estate books I have read. It gave me the information I needed. I appreciated the "The Way It Really Is" feature which tells real life stories of a closing and I liked the check lists and what to look for. The book is written in terms which any lay person can understand. The sample forms were very helpful and the State by State Procedures chart is unique. This is one real estate book which delivers more than the title suggests!

Great book. Simplifed the real estate process for me.
This book is fantastic. It really changed the escrow process for me. By simplifing the buying and selling network my escrow went allot easyer. Because of this book I knew which questions to ask and ended up saving allot of money. I would advise to anyone thinking about going through escrow to read this book. It will save you allot of time, energy and expenses.

The Ambition and the Power: The Fall of Jim Wright: A True Story of Washington
Published in Hardcover by Viking Press (May, 1992)
Author: John M. Barry
Amazon base price: $4.98
Average review score:

The best of its kind
For the afficionado of the political genre, there is no better book than this. Barry's access was not equally granted by all the players, but he was sufficiently "in the room" and privy to frank discussion that he places the reader in the Congress during the end of a Speaker's tenure. This episode really marks the rise of Newt Gingrich, the end of Democrat control of the U.S. House, and profound changes in America. The book doesn't explain how it all came about. It does, however, live up to its title by showing how ambition and power collide. In this instance, ambition won. That Gingrich eventually suffered an ignominous political end is one of the great ironies of recent American politics.

The Best inside Congress book in recent years
This book is incredible in depth of research, interviews with key players in the House of Representatives, a balanced approached, and analysis. It reveals more of the inner workings of the House of Representatives than any other single source. A must read for anyone who wants to understand how the House works, and at the same time how Speaker Jim Wright lost the speakership.

possibly the best Washington book ever written
Barry, who wrote for The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other publications, was allowed unbelievable access to former Speaker of the House Jim Wright's private meetings, and also got cooperation from then-back bencher Gingrich and others of Wright's enemies. The result is an absolutely brilliant study of how power works in Washington, inside the Congress, between the Congress and the White House, the media. Well-written and provocative, this book will give you an understanding of Washington like nothing else I have ever read. Ever since it came out (in 1989), I have been waiting for Edmund Morris's Reagan biography to get the other side of the story. If only Morris had done what Barry did. But Morris failed. Barry didn't.

A Gift of Love
As I began reading this book, I was struck immediately by what it told me about my own search for my home, both physically and spiritually. If the reader applies Vishu's philosophy of Archetype Design to her spiritual practice as well as building the perfect home, what a wonderful life would be guaranteed.

Archetype Design
Vishu Magee has presented the mystical achetypes of Carl Jung in a most readable and understandable fashion. His presentation develops the archetype themes inherent in us all as spiritual beings and demonstrates how we can incorporate those archtypes in the design of our living spaces. Magee explains how we can make our house a vehicle for spiritual growth. He goes beyond simply explaining how these archetypes operate in our lives and everyday experiences. He explains how we and those around us are driven by the archtypes in everyday life and why it is important that we become aware of their existence and influence in our psyche, especially how they manifest in our lives - both outer and inner. Magee includes in the book a comprehensive planning guide that covers every aspect of creating a total environment for interfacing individual, family and community. This is truly a great contribution to spiritual, peronsal and architectural literature.

A spiritualistic tool for your home and your life.
Being the printer of Archetype Design, I have shared this wonderful book with prospective clients for its style and quality. To my delight I am finding they are not just reviewing its physical appearance but reading it for the spiritual content. Vishu is a spiritual guide leading us back to the days of a "Happy Home" and directing us into the future of a home for uplifting the spirit.

Well worth the price!
This book is very inspirational. For anyone who really appreciates innovative crochet techniques this book's definately a keeper. First of all it's huge with tons of high glossy photos. I loved seeing all of the different clothes. I've always thought of myself as an innovative crocheter but the artists in the book really let their imaginations go.

There is not only crochet clothing but woven, leather and found objects. If you hunger for abstract designs and techniques this book will satisfy.

The Bible Of The Wearable Art Movement!
I have the edition of this book which came out in the mid'80s and which was embraced by all of us doing wearable art as the ultimate art we are all aspiring to achieve. The author then had the most famous wearable art gallery too in New York City. The pictures are out-of-this world in the earlier edition and I can't believe they'd be anything but splendid in this later edition. I can't even count how many hours I've spent going over the pictures again and again in the book. I can't understand why Amazon doesn't have a front cover to show you on this book though. Mine has a knock-you-out front cover with an absolutely gorgeous cover model in wearable art. If you've always wanted to understand what wearable art is, this book answered all the questions I had about the movement and the pioneers who started it. I spent (more money) on my book back then so this one is a real deal if you get the same number of pictures.

Amazing!
I am so impressed with this book, that I would reccomend it to anyone who has ever had any interest in "art to wear" Truly remarkable and one of a kind.

As good as it gets
A fine book on Buenos Aires. At Home in Buenos Aires features artists, expatriates, and a cast of very interesting PorteƱo's and the houses they live in. The photographs are superb, the text well written. I read this book prior to visiting Buenos Aries and the book enhanced the visit. The book is a love affair with the city, its people, its history and its architecture. Don't leave home without it. Five stars.

At Home in Buenos Aires
This pictorial review of Buenos Aires is a stunning display of photos of the city, its homes and its people. Coupled with a descriptive narrative, the photographs, all in color, trace the history of the city and describe modern day Buenos Aires. It is awesome to see the turn of the century architecture of the various buildings and at the same time to be allowed into the private homes of the city's residents. As an American visitor to Bs.As., I found that this book allowed me to see areas that otherwise would be unavailable to view. In later chapters of the book, the writer and photographer take the reader to the city's suburbs and then on to the world famous Argentine estancias (ranches).I would recommend this book to those who have traveled to the city who now wish to be reminded of its beauty as well as to the Argentines who may now live outside the country yet long for a reminder of what awaits their return. For those who have yet to visit Bs. As., this book is a fine substitute.

Very good book!
I found this book by chance on my last trip to NY.

I am an argentinian living in Buenos Aires, and I love my city. I think the book shows it in a wonderful way, through the text and pictures, which I found really beautiful.

It's good value for money too.

Wondrous hodge-podge
This wonderful book flows along like a river. Sometimes it bumps into boulders, swirls in an odd corner, or leaps down a waterfall. Connell throws in extraneous facts, skips from here to there, and gives enjoyable reading. He would be an author of great stature if he could refrain from his heavy-handed pose of jaded cynicism. Yes, we know there are nasty people in the world without being reminded at every possible cue. Yes, we know that many people in the English speaking world are execrable, too, even though we have produced nobody of Hitler's rank: where he uses Dresden to provide an example of an apartment crumbling during WWII, London also provided plenty of firebombed apartments, and they didn't even start the war. And anyway, all that is thoroughly traveled territory, inappropriate for a book that takes us into untraveled lands and unknown people.

These are great stories, told superbly. One thing puzzled me, though. Connell's eloquence failed him on perhaps the greatest journey of all. Compare his telling of the Cabeza de Vaca to the same story in DeVoto's Course of Empire. Strange.

But don't let this get in your way. Read and enjoy!

wonderful journeys in this book
Evan Connell knows how to capture the reader with an array of fascinating details woven into wonderful journeys that weave
through different corridors of human history.

Take the adventure and read this collection of essays!

Wonderful Essays
I first read most of these essays the year I graduated from college. (All but a couple were collected in earlier books which are now quite hard to find.) They are beautifully written, exciting, and fascinating. Connell has an amazing breadth of subjects and communicates complex ideas with ease and clarity. Even years later, I find myself thinking about his essays on the race to the South Pole or near eastern archaeology. In fact, this is that rare book I'd recommend to almost anyone of just about any age. It's full of exciting stories, intelligent analysis, and honest-to-god wit. I'm so glad to see these essays collected in one volume. Hoorah! [Connell's Mr. Bridge and Mrs. Bridge are also fantastic.]

Fantastic name drops!!
In addition to the beautifully photographed work, a very enjoyable glimse in Miss Campbells own home and world filled with The Beautiful People.

Gorgeous photographs of elegant homes
I have the English edition of this book (called Nina Campbell on Decorating), same number of pages, same copyright date, identical book size, inside look at how she worked with ten clients, so I believe it is the same book with a different title and cover picture (stuff that is typically altered when a book crosses the Atlantic).
The photographs are lovely, showed to their full advantage in this oversized book, accompanied by easy-to-read text that brought me into the dilemmas and solution process for each of the ten houses. Sometimes I disagreed with the results because decorating is a subjective art, but I loved discovering Nina's decorating philosophy. For example, on page 79 she says "Undoubtedly, my client will add paintings as he finds them. A house that is complete from the minute the owner walks in is not an ideal home. In the early stages a room needs to be 'en route,' as it were. You should be able to invite your friends to a party without being embarrassed that it's 'not quite finished."
Of course, Nina's comments also give us insight into how a designer works with a client, including some funny episodes such as the time she was confused about which way a painting a client owned should be hung - she thought vertical, and it turned out horizontal was the artist's intention!
Nina's style tends toward the formal and elegant, but anyone could learn from her approach to decorating. An enjoyable book to read, I'm looking forward to sharing it with some friends of mine who are designing a home - who could resist a wall of books in the study that is really a door? And her decorating tricks, such as lowering a high ceiling by painting it with a mottled texture, can be used by anyone.

inspired reader who wants to "spread the word"
Equally at home on a living room coffee table or by a bedside, this book offers a welcomed escape for anyone who appreciates english style. It seems that the middle ground between the whimsical cottage style and the grand baronial castle look is often ignored. While I admit that Ms. Campbell definitely illustrates the latter, she also depicts several chapters which this jersey girl has the chance to emulate, i.e. small but stylish, elegance in the miniature. Her text is very informative; however, it is the well over one hundred photographs that will be of great help and inspiration.
