very good for beginners
wow. this book is simply gorgeous. for a beginner like me it is a very informative coverage on the art of woodworking. beautifully and clearly illustrated on every page it teaches.

not only does it explain the hows and whys of hand tools' functions/application but also give plenty of tips and advice on how to avoid (costly) mistakes.

Hand Tools: Their Ways and Workings
This book is an excellent primer for anyone interested in woodworking with handtools. Clear illustrations identify tool particulars and correct usage and maintenance of each. All woodworking handtools from handplanes to screwdrivers are included. Also included is an appendix listing essential handtools for any woodshop. I have found this appendix, and the book itself, indispensable.

Superb, thorough guide to working with hand tools.
Highly recommended. Studying and working from this book is the next best thing to taking lessons from a master craftsman in his shop. Clearly-presented instructions and handsome illustrations in pencil explain both the elementary use of hand tools and the techniques to obtain smooth, professional results. The author's style is clean and polished, like the operation of an efficient, well-tuned plane. After mastering the contents of this book, you'll be equipped to perform a wide range of woodworking tasks, and, even more, have the knowledge to find solutions to any greater technical challenges that come your way.

In the second of the "Merlin Missions"--hardback additions to Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Tree House series--plucky heroes Jack and Annie must once again must travel back in time to rescue Camelot from looming danger.

One wonders why Merlin can't handle this sort of thing himself, but then of course we wouldn't get a chance to see Jack and Annie have another seat-of-the-pants adventure, getting mixed up with shape-shifting magic, armies of birds, a puzzling gem of power, and all sorts of other trouble. With the help of their old pal Teddy (Morgan le Fay's apprentice, last seen in dog form in four earlier Tree House stories), the two "Master Librarians and Magicians of Everyday Magic" must solve the mystery behind a castle full of ghosts and a menacing army of ravens. Not surprisingly, half the trouble comes in unraveling Merlin's riddles and helping Teddy use his rhyming magic correctly.

Osborne doesn't challenge readers overmuch (including the constant restatement of plot elements, perhaps worried that kids might otherwise forget or lose interest) and many parts of the story barely convince (like Teddy's "period" dialogue, e.g., "'Tis cool indeed"), but fans of the Magic Tree House will no doubt love another installment. Just point to a cover on the book and their there. The magic tree house #1 is a good book. Luckly Old Maggie told some riddles as hints to help them. Not only Jack and Annie is alone to save the haunted castle, Teddy was helping them too. Teddy help them to become a raven and help them get to the raven nest where Merlin's diamond is. The raven king stole Merlin's diamond and Merlin need it. So he need Teddy,Jack, and Annie.

Coolest book
I think that this book was great!!! it really was different and unique. Not this book but all of the magic treehouse books are awesome. I say that mary Pope Osbourne is on of he best childeren authors.

Delightful!
This book will charm every child over the age of five. It's quite an adventure that its hero and heroine go off on together. The story is well-conceived: detailed, fascinating and well-described. Great Halloween spirit--and the saga is not at all scary!

Building a good book!
Henry always gets five stars from me, but when I was a kid my favorite thing about this book was the very idea of building a real clubhouse. It seemed like such a fun and cool thing to do. I like that the kids in this book take the initiative to have fun rather than expecting adults to provide all of their amusements, as so often happens today.

This book is the Best Book
I used to read this all the time and sometimes I still do.When i was young like Henry I thought about how girls shouldnt beallowed too, and even though i know its silly now, I remember. And thats why its good. I was a lot like Henry Huggins. And thats good characterisation. But i didnt have a dog. But I had a clubhouse. It was my garage and it smelled like paint.

This book is the best! I will buy it for all my kids someday, if they're boys. Girls arent allowed! ... just kidding girls.

It's, realy great!!!!
I read Henery and the Clubhouse by Bevrely Cleary. And I want to tell you that it was great! This story is about Henery Huggens and his friends, Robert and Murph who ars building a clubhouse in Henry's backyard. Henry, also has a paper rout to look after. Will Henry be able to build his clubhouse and deliver his papers? Well I am not telling you, you have to find out by reading this book!

Beautifully Done!
Lisa Kanarek is well-known for her expertise in home office design and operation. She's written other books, published articles, and appears frequently as a professional speaker on the topic. Because of her knowledge and positioning, Lisa appears in the media frequently. I was understandably startled when I saw this coffee table book with her name on it.

I started looking through the book and discovered that the author's valuable advice is plentiful. And so are gorgeous full-color photos of examples of the designs and approaches the author recommends. The book is best suited for someone contemplating developing a home office, but it can be just as valuable for someone who already has a home office but is thinking about making improvements. Prepare to take copious notes; you won't want to write in this book.

If you look in a bricks-and-mortar bookstore for this book, you may have some difficulty. The publisher has categorized the book as "Home Decoration/Interior Design." OK, I acquiesce. It is a beautiful book on decorating and design, and it is related to the home. But this is a business book, make no mistake about it. The volume does, however, demonstrate that it is possible to have an efficient workspace that also looks really good.
And that bothered me about Home Office Life. Everything is so neat and pretty in those pictures. I'm not sure our home office looked that good on the first day of operations! I suppose you have to make everything look pretty and sterile for such photos, though.

Lisa Kanarek covers the waterfront for us. The first chapter deals with How to Make a Better Business at Home. Some of us really need this! Included are planning, set-up, and organization. You'll learn things about how to carve out a space for yourself and how to design the office that will work for you. And you'll get lots of tips along the way.

The second section of the book talks about Getting Down to Business. You'll learn how to put your home office to work, setting up shop and getting settled in. The third section deals with reality, presenting real examples of how home offices can work. This section has the information needed by people considering a makeover of their home office. A resource list and an index make this book even more valuable.

With the movement toward home offices, this book is a winner. You might suggest your architect buy one, too. If you use an interior decorator, get yet another copy.

eye candy for the home office worker's soul!
Written by home office guru Lisa Kanarek, you'll learn ways to make your office work for you (pun intended). The design ideas in this beautifully illustrated book will help you think out of the box and implement the best working system for your home office needs.

The pictures alone will change the way you think about an office at home. Whether you need to create a niche in your little corner of the world, find furniture that doesn't crick your neck, or design a space that fits your lifestyle, Home Office Life will guide you every step of the way.

Great helpful ideas, hints & tips
This is a fantastic book that will help anyone create the perfect home office. It is packed with great ideas, hints and tips as well as lots of example photos. The two major issues of the home worker, limited space and integrating work functions with living space, are always kept in mind.

The book starts by helping you identify your needs and determine what type of worker you are. By using this information you can establish a home office plan. It also helps you choose the right location, exploring the pros and cons of different rooms.

Office design is next. Here the book guides you through choosing materials including flooring, wall-coverings and window treatments. It shows you a variety of floor plans and assists you in planning a your workspace arrangement. Selecting the appropriate lighting and purchasing furniture follows. There is a useful ergonomic tip sheet and a chair buying guide. Creative storage solutions, filing secrets and the basic home office supplies you will need are also covered. There are even small sections on décor and creating a client-friendly office.

The final chapter shows you real world offices including guest room and laundry room makeovers. Other offices, including those of an interior designer, a web designer, a researcher, a writer and literary agent are shown as well. Other examples feature a wide range of styles. I loved a funky black & white office with an "S" shaped bookcase and offbeat variety of wallpaper. I found an office under a metal bunk bed interesting as well. Whether you have a whole room or just a tiny corner to work in this book will help you.

Great Book!
This book is excellent. I would highly recommed you get it. It is the first out of three. A normal family of four rent a summer house. But their two children have realised they are not alone. The children tell their parents but claim they have a wild imagenation. What is the secret to the old house in cherry street? Well, The children are about to find out.

it was a scary book
The book House On Cherry Street was about Jason his sister Sally and his baby-sitter Katie, It also had an evil which and a ghost named Bobby. It all started happining when Jasons parents went on a buisness trip and katie came to watch them and this ghost Bobby was trying to scare away katie cause it didn't like baby sitters but katie wouldn't beleive any thing that Jason said but things kept on happning and finally she saw it and believed it then the whitch was tyring to get them but sjhe didn't and they got bobby were he belonged.

The horror
I didn't like it at all. I read part 1 of this book and it was good. This book didn't even close to as good as the other one. The author kept describing one thing and that wasn't bad. The only thing that was wrong, is that it ended the complete opposite of what I thought. I didn't like the ending either. At the end of every chapter, it had a good cliffhanger. When you read the next chapter, it didn't have much to do with the cliffhanger or it ended up not being good. The book kept you in suspence most of the time, but it wnt away too fast. You could guess who was making all of the trouble by just reading the first couple chapters. All of the main characters in th book were really cool and they stayed in my mind really well. Overall, I thought that this book wasn't that good, but I liked it a little. It would have been better if the story was mre suspenceful and the cliffhangers would end in a different way. One of the lessons I learned in this novel is never underestimate people no matter who they are. They could do anything at anytime. If you are thinking of reading this book, I wouldn't recommend it. I would grade this book a 2 on a scale from 1-10. .

Family in a House
My 5 year old loved this book from the library. I really enjoyed it too! She kept saying that the house was her home and the man was her husband, and the children were her children. What a wonderful sense of family.

A great book to open coversation.
The pictures and the flow of the book are wonderful! It leads itself to a great many discussions and learning of terms as well as thinking about other places and cultures. Because of this book we are going to find additional books about types of houses and construction. My 3yr old and my 10 yr old have really enjoied it!

Wonderful treat for children as well as adults
Wonderful! A treat for children, and fun for adults to admire as well. The illustrations are superb, and the concept of touring a house and figuring out what comprises a house a house will make kids remember this work every time they enter a new house.

John Bois, KJB translator--his life in 17th c. England
Short and sweet! Marjorie King's 1997 historical novel about the life of one of God's own secretaries, JOHN BOIS, is a delightful companion pice to Adam Nicolson's new book about the KJB. Mrs. King's 184-page novel depicts daily life--sometimes warm and cozy, sometimes tragic and tumultuous--in Reformation England. We see not only John Bois's Bible work--as one of the 54 scholars who translated the KJB--but his daily activities as husband of a spirited, much younger woman, as father of their five children, and as pastor of the Boxworth village church where he preached for 47 years. To most contemporary scholars, John Bois is little more than a name. A HOUSE ETERNAL, based on Mrs. King's extensive and intensive research, which included travel in England, brings John Bois to life. We see him struggling through family crises, domestic spats and financial difficulties at home, as well as in his professional relationships with colleagues and religious leaders in the rarefied academic atmosphere of Cambridge and the bustling city of London. A HOUSE ETERNAL presents a realistic picture of the personal and professional life of one of the men who helped produce the world's all-time bestseller, the KJB. A HOUSE ETERNAL may well become a collector's item.

A Compelling Story
While the cover of Marjorie King's novel "A House Eternal" simply and modestly states that it is a "Historical Novel About A Bible Translator", it is truly much more than that. It is the compelling story of a man and scholar, John Bois. From marital discord to professional strife and jealousy, the author brings the character of John Bois and his time alive to the reader.Historically, the reader is offered a rare glimpse into the life of a 17th century biblical scholar. John Bois' role as one of the men chosen to translate for the King James version of the bible is very aptly described. I not only learned a lot reading this book, but also enjoyed it immensely!

A Must Read to know the KJV translators !
In his last will and testament, Henry Holt left his library and Rectorship of Boxworth to John Bois if he would marry his daughter, Barbara, whom Bois has never met.

Marjorie King has taken this intriging starting point and added major research on Bois life to provide understanding of God's impact on the life of a translator. Robert Overall- April 10, 2000

John Bois was a man fully worth knowing, who played an important part in the final revision of the entire Bible. John Bois was in someways the most vivid of the translators. At any rate we have more about his private life and his ways of doing than we have of others. Gustavus S. Paine - 1977

... this is a great twist on the genre.
Slow start, but once I got going I couldn't put it down.

Cool!
What a story! If you like westerns and ghost stories, you'll love this.

Read this book!
Full of myth, legend and strong personalities, this book has all the makings of a great tale. A repeated assault of page-turning hauntings paint a picture of dynamic frenzy. Moments of reflection, romance and tooth-gritting confrentation succeed in illustrating the competing forces pulling Roland Black in different directions. Chases, esacpes, love and bullets: this novel has them all. Highly recommended.

The Hardy Boys: Hunting for Hidden Gold
Franklin W. Dixion's series the Hardy Boys in the book Hunting for Hidden Gold is a book filled with action and mystery. Every turn of the page brings more and more mystery and excitement to me and other readers who read the series of the hardy boys. This fictional book is about two boys and their father are devoted crime stoppers who yet again embark on adventure filled with action, adventure, danger, and mystery. The Hardy's are assigned to assist their father (another well know crime stopper in there fictional world) in bringing down a well know brigand that has inhabited the woods in lucky lode. It is a constant race with the clock to find the brigand and his henchmen and what they are trying to find and to bring them to justice.

I happened to find this book very entertaining at points it brought to the edge of my chair in some parts but it could get boring in some places. It's like they are taking it minute by minute with quick hair brain plans and still not get hurt. I think that it can be a little unrealistic some of the time. This book I think is trying to say even though you might be young or small anything is possible. My over all opinion of the book is that I found it very entertaining and interesting it made me want to find out where the treasure comes into place and find out if the brigand was brought to justice. I give the book a 4 out of five. I would also read the other books within the series of the hardy boys.

GSK

Still Great After Decades.
I credit Franklin Dixon's Hardy Boys series with sparking my interest in literature, which led ultimately to the publication of my own suspense novel thirty years later. I started reading these books when I was seven, and eventually collected thirty or forty of them, reading them all two or three times. I recently found several in an old box in the basement, including "House on The Cliff" and "Secret of the Old Mill." When I read one to my ten-year-old daughter, I discovered that time had not tarnished their quality nor distorted my fond memory of them. Now my daughter wants to read another.

Dixon utilizes two key techniques to capture kids' imagination and keep their attention. One is action. Kids get distracted easily. Dixon never gives them the chance. Exciting, dangerous, and mysterious stuff starts happening right away in each book and continues in every chapter. The other is to end each chapter with some unresolved event so suspenseful that kids must keep reading. I can't tell you how many times I stayed up late to keep reading a Hardy Boys mystery.

Every book in the series is as good as the next. Dixon created characters and a formula that worked, and he stuck with them consistently. They teach good old-fashioned values, and are fun and easy to read--the perfect step up from baby books to chapter books. --Christopher Bonn Jonnes, author of Wake Up Dead.

Great for gettings kids to like reading.
I read so many of these a few years back, and I am now stocking up my home library with these great imaginary scenes. My children are too young to read, but my nephew likes them just fine. Great for boys AND girls. Start kids off with some fun and clean reading, and they will love reading later on.
