Eh...
Kit's Home Run was not quite what I expected it to be. It seemed like a run down of the books, spending too much quality time going over the facts about what happened to Kit. Then Pleasant Company decided to recycle some of the graphics from "Kit Saves the Day." While to book is cute, I was somewhat disappointed. This is supposed to be a short story, an extension of the six other Kit books. Instead, it seemed like a run of the mill mass-produced series book, rehashing facts as though readers were not already acquainted with Kit and her family. Anyone who has read "Meet Kit" knows what happened to Kit and her family, and anyone who read "Kit Saves the Day" will notice that several of the graphics were recycled. Put bluntly: the book could have been more original. Several of the others seem to be better..but perhaps that is because they actually came from American Girl magazine, and before Mattel took Pleasant Company over...

A very good Kit book, but not one of the best
This is another in the American Girls Short Stories series about Kit Kittredge, a ten-year-old girl living in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is 1934, and Kit wishes that she could go see a Cincinnati Reds game like she and her father used to before the Depression began. When she's hurt during a neighborhood game, Kit finds a way to help someone else!

I am a fan of the Kit books, but must admit to feeling somewhat disappointed by this one. A part of what I like best about them is the life lessons that they teach, but this one is a little thin on the lesson part. But, that said, my daughter loved the book, and we both liked the illustrations. The final chapter was a look at baseball in 1934, and a project for personalizing a baseball cap, which my daughter is already planning out right now. So, overall I would say that this is a very good Kit book, but certainly not one of the best.

barbara brabec's book is better
i bought this book and barbara brabec's book. They both have the same kind of information, but spend the extra $ for her book as she dedicates a few hundred more pages to these subjects.

Missing important details; basic business boilerplate
This book was a disappointment. I found it to have several chapters of vague generalities and typical small business boilerplate that I don't want to pay for.

It definitely does not give me the information I need to know to start a tour operator business. The most important example of it is it simply says nothing whatsoever about insurance and how to protect yourself from liability. That in itself should be an absolute condemnation of the book.

The only reason I didn't give it 1 star is it says a bit about how to guide a tour, which someone might find slightly useful, but overall, the book is not worth buying.

For Those Who Love to Travel and Make Money
This book gives an in-depth look at the tour guiding industry. The authors provide invaluable travel tips from behind the scenes. Included are checklists of travel items, examples, and an Appendix filled with useful travel organizations. Anyone who enjoys travelling and would like to make money doing it, should pick up this book.

Home Run Kings
This book is about baseball stars. It mainly tells about the baseball players that are famous for home runs. It tells us about people that made history in baseball. Baseball is a very
old game. Even Abraham Lincoln played baseball. The game started from British games like Cricket and Rounders. The city that developed baseball was New York City. The first bases were stakes. They became sand-filled sacks in 1840. The Cincinnati Red Stockings were the first real baseball team. The Blacks were not allowed to play on the White teams at the first. Jackie Robinson was the first Black player to play on the White teams. He played for the Dodgers. George Herman Ruth, Jr., better known as Babe Ruth, was the home run king. Some other home run kings were Roger Maris, Hank Aaron, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa. I am sure there will be many more people to break the records in baseball.

extremely disappointing
Waste of money to buy. Most of businesses are for professionals whom I doubt would need to buy this "self-help" type book. More information is readily available on the web than this book even chips away at. Go to the library or use the internet.

Designed more around professionals wanting to work at home.
Slightly dissappointing. I thought it would give more of an insight to "simpler" jobs at home rather than professionals wanting to work at home - which is what a large majority of what the book covered. The book also covered ideas that would work better in larger cities and areas. For the items that were listed, the descriptions on some were vague, others went into great detail.

Great
Great book

too vague and general
this book is more about general catering, rather than how to start your own business. after reading this book, i did not feel i knew what my next steps were. a much better book is "how to start your own home-based catering businees" by denise vivaldo. she writes about legal ramifications, insurance, budgets (with worksheets and what % normally is spent on food, service, etc), business plans (with excerpts from her own), menu examples, and resources! i found that book very, very, very imformative on how to start a legitimate business

This book isn't even vaguely worth the price.
I'm sorry I wasted my money on this book; I'd seen it mentioned in various catalogs but hadn't been able to find it in my bookstores, so I didn't know what I was getting. It offers only a glib tone with mostly unhelpful anecdotes and an absolute dearth of useful details. You'll probably know even less about starting a home-based catering business after reading it than before.

Excellent resource!
I found this book to be exceedingly helpful in starting up my catering business. It provides a complete overview of the busiiness, how it should operate, what you should know, and how to make it successful. It's a terrific choice for a new business owner, or one considering the business of catering.
