Good practice questions, but
I think the book had explained the answers to the question well, but in general the book was not so great. I recommend this book to beginners who need work on qustions, but not for advanced students. This book was a waste of time for those who really wanted to strive for an AP grade of 5.

Better than Barron's, Not as good as Princeton Review
The title of this review sums it up. Petersen's APWH study guide is just "OK" for AP World History. It's a good source for ideas for multiple choice questions. I've used Petersen's, Barron's and Princeton Review with my students--hands down winner is PR's "Cracking the APWH Exam", In My Humble Opinion.

FULL OF MISTAKES
I just want to know one thing; where in the world did this guy get his information?!

If you like to look at pictures, then this book is mediocre...barely. This book is full of technical errors suggesting that there are 454 camaros and misidentifying a lot of the cars pictured, just for a couple examples.

Not a good book at all.

Nice pictures, but...
I just received this book today. It is full of mistakes and misinformation. And I've only begun to read it! So far, I've just read a few paragraphs and all the photo captions. I really like the color photos. But I won't rely on any of the technical information. The Camaro history may be correct. I haven't read it, yet. I don't consider this book a good buy.

nice book
another of the few books that gives a great photo shoot and history of the camaro. i personally own a camaro and feel it does a nice job

College Algebra

No good
I am currently enrolled In a distanced learning college and was sent this book. The book Is hard to figure out and the problems give you no pretense on who to solve them go with a different book.

Needs something
This text isn't awful, but it does jump into things a bit quickly for someone who hasn't taken algebra for about a decade. If you need to use this text as part of a college program, I definitely recommend "Forgotten Algebra", ISBN 0812019423 as a refresher (or suppliment) before tackling this text. It will be well worth the extra [money] spent!

Good Study Guide
College Algebra is well written. The concepts of algebra are thoroughly explained and illustrated with examples. Answers to half the problems are included in the back of the book.

Disappointing
I have been working on a history of heavy automatic weapons and their ammunition, which inevitably includes a great deal about aircraft guns. When I saw the advert for this book, I bought it sight unseen. Big mistake. There is virtually nothing about the development of the different types of weapons and what there is has an enormous US bias. What little information there is about non-US equipment is often laughably inaccurate (the one "French" aircraft of WW2 is - the RAF's Boulton Paul Defiant!). Even the US information is largely in the form of pictures, many of them just showing gun muzzles sticking out of wings or turrets. From my viewpoint, a waste of money.

Good, but misses great
I bought the first book this duo wrote (C-Planes) and it was truly excellent. This one did not quite meet that standard. However, my two teenage boys, aviations nuts themselves, did enjoy it very much. It is a good, basic overview of aerial gun warfare, but it doesn't have the depth and detail that I was hoping for. Maybe they coud do a second edition, and get it up to their earlier very high standard!

Great for my teenagers!
My teenager now wants to be a pilot, and he bought this book for that reason. For him, it was great. An overview of fighter pilotage, but without the details that would bore him and turn him off. He has read it at least six times, and loves the pictures.

Total Waste of money
I can't believe they consider this a technical book on REXX. Nobody who buys this book wants a stupid story line behind what should be the technical details of programming REXX in Windows.

If you drop all the fluff, you would only have a 50 page document. If your looking for a better reference on REXX, I suggest getting the IBM Mainframe Programmer's Desk Reference. The Reference covers many other IBM utilities, but it does a good job of covering the REXX commands and giving examples on how to use them. I bought this book to learn REXX when I first started. It was a very valuable resource. I still use it often in my day - to - day programming.

Far to wordy
As an experinced programmer I feel this book is far to wordy, to the point of discribing a what is going on in the class room. Frankly I can't believe this is an IBM manual do to the lack of information provided and the fluff included.

I liked it!
I use many different languages but I like REXX for its easy access to the OS. At first I thought that the story line was hokey, but after a while I enjoyed it. It provided a context for the technical detail. I applaud the authors for their efforts (next time I'd recommend that they pilfer a more established author's story line because the story was a bit weak.) Imagine "Salem's oREXX", instead of "Salem's Lot". I disagree with the critics who panned the book. I found it well worth the money.

Disappointment
I am really disappointed. As an industry leader in toothbrush holders I was expecting a thorough review, but this was just a book of pretty pictures.

Review #1 is a prank
Due to the ridiculousness of this item, an inebriated acquaintance wrote the above review. Later, realizing that it may be an actual item, I decided to correct this error, but could not figure out how to undo the review. Sorry, and I hope the error is corrected as soon as possible.

Making Love
Published in Paperback by Constable Robinson (23 January, 1995)
Authors: Nancy Holder and Melanie Tem
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $15.76
Collectible price: $12.71
Average review score:

A good man is hard to find...um, make...
Hmmmm...well, this is certainly an interesting premise. A kinky prometheus one ups his mistress. Tem and Holder write with an eloquence that is often lacking in modern-day horror; the novel is worth a look just based on that.
Now for the rest of the story. Lonely, codependent, dysfunctional Charlotte Tobias, knocking on the door of middle aged spinsterhood, ends up creating, literally, her ideal lover in Phanes. Lonely no more, Charlotte at first rejoices in her creation, revelling in Phanes' discovery of the world around him, and of their explorations of each other. He's gorgeous, he shares her interests, he's sensitive, he's a nonstop love machine. What more could a gal want? Unfortunately for Charlotte, "be careful what you wish for" is the moral of this little fable. Phanes becomes increasingly out of control. More and more bizarre creations pop up and are destroyed. Charlotte slowly slips into madness. Phanes wreaks evil all around her. In short, she created her dream man but forgot to give him a soul.
Again, the writing is haunting, even beautiful at times. The basic idea is captivating. But I had to keep forcing myself to finish this novel. It didn't pack the punch to keep my interest for very long. I'm not as familiar with Holder, but Tem's work is usually worth checking out. This one is a toss-up; you might want to find it at the library rather than making the investment.

Acceptable preparation at best
Glancing through the book when it arrived, my eyes fell upon 6 Important Strategies, a list prominently featured on the first page after the table of contents. Important strategy three was this: "Don't rely on your memory go back to the passage." So blatant a run-on sentence in a book about English is, at best, amusing.

The book lived up to my initial impression of it. It contained four practice tests (one called a diagnostic test and placed at the book's beginning), and each included a number of questions unlike those on the real test. Though the authors discussed testing procedures and the scoring of the multiple choice section quite well, their treatment of the scoring of the free-response section was inadequate and even misleading. Like most books of its kind, it featured such useless things as a review of basic grammar (a thing that is not directly tested on the exam and that if unknown to a person should be his last concern in preparing) and a large list of suggested reading.

In short, this is a poor but sadly typical test prep book; it was planned with a frontcover listing of features in mind, thrown together without great care or thought, rushed to the presses in time for the school season, and sold to anxious preppies like me.

AWFUL
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK- IT IS THE BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY EVER... GET ANY OTHER BOOK, TRUST ME I WASTED 2 HOURS DOING PRACTICE TESTS ONLY TO FIND MISMATCHED EXPLANATIONS, TYPOS, AND TESTS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TO THE REAL ONE.

I wasted my money
I need to get another test prep book because I did not feel this book helped at all. The 2002 version also contains many typing errors, errors in the answers, and generally confusing descriptions. I did not have faith that all the answers in the back were indeed the correct ones because of the numerous typos and I was generally very dissatisfied. Do not waste your money like I did and I hope Petersons can at least make the effort of improving the typoing erros before they publish again.

Don't take this as binding, but...
The 2001 edition of this book has many typos, at least in the first 10-20 pages I've read so far. Some serious stuff, like wrong anwsers and mismatching explanations. Of course, the 2002 edition might be better.
