A Wonderful Tale For Anytime Like Any Of Dicken's Stories
In this tale we follow a young child named Pip who starts of as an orphaned child living with his big sister(like 10+ years or older big) and her blacksmith husband (Uncle Joe) who has no future other than staying in her working class. That all changes with new found riches thanks to an unknown source. Along with those riches Pip is to be trained into a Gentleman and from that we follow Pip's successes and failures in life dealing with those riches and how he got them. And finally we see him ending with the only thing he could not capture, that has lost its beauty when Pip first saw him/her/it (keeping it a secret, you gotta read to find out) during his childhood. Telling anymore would ruin the purpouse and joy of reading this book. Simply put, Dickens adds the sense of adventure and humor to his book and twist and turns that keep it always suspensful and parts in every stage of Pip's life we could all relate to. And with those characteristics marvelously arranged this a very enjoyable tale to read from beginning to end. The only problem I have with it is that the literature here is sometiems a bit hard to understand since after all this was written over 100 years ago.

After reading this book I used it all the time in my class room and it was great. My kids loved it and I even had a great time with the teachers making them laugh! You'll love this book. I recomend to get Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day first before buying this. I highly recomend this book because of all of the fun I had!

Excellent book for those interested in the subject matter
A very good book, although the introductory fiction is one of the worse pieces ever written for Ars Magica (it's too large and feels very artificial). Four types of hedge wizards are described: Cunning Folk, Spirit Masters, Natural Magicians and Ascetics. My favorites are the Spirit Masters and Natural Magicians, mainly because due to their presence the book also includes a very nice appendix detailing Items of Virtue (for the Natural Magicians) and some spirits (for Spirit Masters). The Cunning Folk are on the bottom of my list due to the inclusion of the totally unnecessary rules of wild vis.

Be warned, though, that, if you're not intending to include any of the above four in your Saga, the only useful part of this book will be the appendix.

The Hedge Witch's Way: Magical Spirituality for the Lone Spellcaster

The Wiccan Path becomes "how to"......
Rae BETH is an astrologer, tarot consultant and feminist. Her book entitled THE WICCAN PATH is one of the best books I've read on how and why one woman became a 'solitary witch' as opposed to joining a coven of witches. According to Rae Beth, solitaries are often hedge witches, akin to the little old lady who lived at the edge of the village in the hedge that enclosed the village space. In THE HEDGE WITCH'S WAY, Rae Beth elaborates on concepts raised in her earlier book about solitaries who are also known as 'lone spellcasters' or 'wildwood mystics'. Are you a wildwood mystic? Read Rae Beth's books to find out.

Among other topics, in the THE HEDGE WITCH'S WAY Rae Beth asks 'Who are you praying to? According to Rae Beth manifestations of the GREAT GODDESS take many forms. She is sacred, numinous, inclusive, and wise love. She is at the center and holds all together. She is synthesis and integration, the ground of all being and within every star, the sun and the moon. Through the ages, she has had many names -- Mari, Morgan, Aradia. The role of the GOD is different. He is the source of change, the trickster and magician and the experimenter on a cosmic scale. He is the prophet, the innovator and the paradox.

Rae Beth has much to say about magic, fairies and shining beings, as well as rituals to honor the higher power, prayers and spells for good fortune, the acquisition of a familiar spirit, and the 'steps along the way'. She explains how one builds an alter, and travels between the 'underworld', the 'upperworld', and the 'middle Earth'. She explains how the GODDESS and GOD take on different forms in the three worlds.

This book nicely compliments her earlier work, however, I recommend you read THE WICCAN PATH first so as to gain a better appreciation of her sincere beliefs before you attempt to use some of her magical techniques and approaches.

interesting delimma
This isn't normally the kind of book I read (it being a mystery), but I'm glad I did, because it really wasn't a mystery. More of a suspense or cop story. I like the interesting moral dilemma this book poses..would you pay a half million dollars in ransom for a child that is not your own? And what if paying this ransom ruins you? What would you do? I think McBain could have spent more time on this aspect of the novel. Also, this book contains some of the best dialogues I've seen. I could picture a couple of good actors acting this out on the big screen. The biggest problem i found with the book was McBain wrote it 'soft.' I would've expected more swearing and adult content from kidnappers, but all in all this book is a must.

Good book for the price
For the price, this book was pretty good. I would have liked to see more pictures of various landscaping techniques, but illustrations would have raised the price. I must admit, there is a fortune of text and drawings that one may bennifit from. So for the price, I give it a 4.
