How Heavy the Breath of God (Texas Poets Series No 5)

A Spiritual Sensuousness
Sheryl St. Germain explores faith, life, and .... against the backdrop of Latin America. Her poems have a sinuous grace, pulling the reader in with words that roll off the tongue. One can imagine being in Ecuador, Guatamala, and the Mayan ruins. One can imagine being part of the jungle. It is a book that I return to time and time again.

Beautiful and thought provoking
Not shy or shallow at all, this collection of poetry is for anyone who loves hard hitting intensely image-driven poetry.

Play it as it is!
This is one of the best guitar books I've ever seen, both because of it's music (being from Iron Maiden explains everything) and speacially because of its strictness! It's an authentic guitar transcription. If you are a guitarist and Iron Maiden fan I recommend it to you. Take in consideration that the songs are not easy to play and learn though... you'll probably get a bit frustrated with that, but, hell, I'm rating the book, not the user :-)

Eric's X Factor Review
I think this book really is just awesome. One reasons is that Dave Murray is just the best guitarist. Another reason is that it's just great to play the right notes to a Iron Maiden song because Iron Maiden's is just the best and these people on the tab web sites make the notes all wrong and it just pisses me off, you know. This is actually a funny reason why the book is cool, the Eddie on the cover is just amazing and freaky. This is why I think the book kicks total arse. Hope you like it, PEACE OUT and UP THE IRONS!

Extremely witty, colorful and entertaining bio.
Though not up to date anymore, this book nevertheless is certainly the wittiest Kiss bio out there, chock full of funny anecdotes, tons of historical details, and interesting pictures. The glossy pages and sleek design only add to the well-written and funny text. With this book, Kiss becomes a funny phenomenon to celebrate. I guarantee you will laugh. Interesting discography and videography too.

Worth the buy!
The CD companion is a MUST and great for practice. You can tune your stereo to either play lead only, or the rhythm riff in the backgroud so YOU can play lead guitar. The CD also feature a slow version of some of the faster solos so that you can pick-out the details. Really a great book. I've very happy with it!

Try this one
It's an excellent guide for guitar players. Include some of the most popular Metallica songs between "Justices" to "Reload". This book is very special because, if you buy a book, you buy a CD with all demos in fast and slow version.

Try it.

A must for any hardcore fan.
This is a great book. It's very well made. It let's Metallica speak for themselves. It's not a biography, it's a book filled with great quotes and photos from the start of their career.

Great book. Lets Metallica speak for themselves
This book is better than any biography that I have read of any group. Instead of paraphrasing thoughts for the group, it lets the group speak for itself through the bandmembers quotes they have made throughout the years (and it tells you what year the quote was from). The book contains an introduction by the editor (Metallica does the rest of the writing) and quotes from the band members made throughout the Metallica's career. The quotes are grouped on the certain topics they are talking about. I would say it is an essential for any Metallica fan

Pantera is the BEST metal/thrash band ever!
This album is full of deep, meaningful lyrics that really make you think. They are about trend-breaking,dealing with and getting over a drug addiction, trials in everyday life and the band's perspective on life.I also suggest Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven.

These CFH are the fastest and heaviest band out their!
PanterA is the best metal band from this side of Texas. This band knows how to bring pure metal music back to life. Dimebag, Vinnie, Rex and Phil are 101% pure speed and energy. Pantera is not to be compaired to any other band out their. I wish that their were alot more bands that played music because they loved what they do and not for the money and plubicity.

Great! Now why didn't they do this about 10 years ago?
Cherry Lane has now released transcriptions of the "Progressive Freak-Out Music" band Primus, divided alphabetically by song title into two volumes. (For those who didn't know, Cherry Lane published many other transcription books and instructional videos during the late 80's shred-guitar era.) Each song transcription includes the guitar lines and bass parts in both standard notation and tablature, as well as the lyrics and vocal melody. A time line of the band's history is included each book. Everything, note-for-note, is taken straight from the original albums. Though being a bass player, I mainly bought these books for the bass parts.

I was very, very pleased to see them feature many songs from the first two albums. Songs like "John The Fisherman", "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver", and "Tommy The Cat" were the ones that introduced me to Primus, and really intrigued me to sit down and learn how to play Claypool's parts. Though maybe some of the newer fans will be disappointed that the books do not include the South Park theme, or songs from the last couple of albums. Nevertheless, the thumb-slapping technique became extremely popular again for bassists around the early 90s, and Les Claypool (along with Flea, Robert Trujilio, etc.) had a lot to do with that. This brings me to the title of this review: why the heck they didn't print a Primus bass transcription book back then, when such a thing would be in its highest demand?

Les also used a variety of basses, including a 4-string with a whammy bar, 6-string basses, uprights, and fretlesses. He also used a variety of techniques other than slapping, such as left and right hand tapping, strumming, and three finger picking. But all the transcriptions seemed to have been faithfully done. (Though I did find tablature to be an odd inclusion for songs like Mr. Krinkle, which features a bowed upright bass! Where is this "third fret" he's supposedly hitting?) The only other thing I find odd is the lack of drum transcriptions. I like Larry Lalonde's guitar style, but let's face it: Primus is mostly known amongst musicians as a "bassist's and drummer's" band. Though maybe drummers aren't that big into transcriptions; I don't know.

I buy transcription books very rarely, but this is one that I've really been waiting for. That's probably what pushes me to give it 5 stars instead of 4. Sitting down with these books and my bass has been fun, a bit nostalgic, and challenging.

Finally, a look into the world of les claypool
This book is a much needed explination of the insanity of Les Claypool's bass style. His slap bass style with bits of tapping, usually on a 5 string bass, occasionally fretless. I have been trying for years to decifer les's music, and now it's finally possible. worth every penny and every second of practice. This is perfect for any primus fan who is instrumental, but be warned, Les' music "is!" as hard to play as it sounds. Have fun.

Stalin's Heavy Tanks 1941-1945: The KV and IS Heavy Tanks (Armor at War Series)

Soviet Heavy Tanks of World War II
This book is a photo journal of the Soviet heavy Tanks in World War II. Photos of tanks in action and destroyed. The tanks and their developement during the war is very well done. 16 color plates for the modeler. The text and captions are first rate. Mr. Zaloga did a great job once again.

Superb Photo Essay on Soviet Heavy Tanks
Steven J. Zaloga is the author of many books on Soviet and Russian armor, but the declassification of Russian archives has allowed him to reexamine the subject and clear away many misconceptions. The Red Army's most important heavy tanks of the war were the KV series (named after defense minister Klimenti Voroshilov), and the IS series (named after dictator Iosef Stalin). The KV-1 was a shock to the Germans when they invaded in 1941, as they had few guns which could penetrate its armor, and its 76 mm gun could knock out any German tank then in service. As the KV became obsolete in 1943, a number of improved designs were explored until the Stalin series was introduced. The new IS-2 combined heavy armor, a cramped interior (to keep weight down) and a huge 122 mm gun based on the standard Soviet field gun. The gun could knock out the German Panther and Tiger series at long range, and it fired an enormous high explosive shell useful in demolishing fortified buildings. Unlike the German heavies, the IS-2 Stalin was simple and cheap (an advantage it shared with its stablemate, the T-34 medium tank), which allowed it to be built in much higher numbers than its German counterparts. Though this book is a primarily a large-format photo essay and is clearly aimed at the model builder, the book devotes eight pages of very fine print to a history of Soviet heavy tank development. Photos are mostly fresh subjects gleaned from Russian archives, rather than the handful of Russian and German propaganda photos that have published previously, and the reproduction is generally quite good (the glossy paper helps). Captions are also quite detailed, and where possible, the actual date, location and unit involved are identified. Though the book is devoted to heavy tanks from 1941-1945, it includes coverage of the pre-war designs in service at the beginning of the war, including the bizarre, multi-turreted T-35, as well as postwar developments begun during the war, such as the IS-3 and IS-4. It also has numerous photos of the self-propelled gun variants based on the KV and Stalin chassis. In addition, there are 16 color drawings of vehicles in service. Another superb title from Concord.

Turning Lead into Gold: How Heavy Metal Poisoning Can Affect Your Child and How to Prevent and Treat It

Inspiration for parents of kids with heavy metal poisoning
I talk to parents of lead poisoned children everyday as Manager of the Lead Advisory Service Australia and I have only received extremely positive comments from other parents about this book. Some doctors would argue that the book gives false hope to parents because the book details very positive outcomes for children with heavy metal poisoning when they undergo chelation treatment. Interestingly, one of the book's authors, Dr Strauts, apparently does not carry out chelation therapy on children any more - according to one of the parents from Australia who contacted his office in Canada. Also, unfortunately, I was never able to obtain a copy of the protocol for chelation treatment that is mentioned in the book - this would have been useful.
However, despite all the above, I would highly recommend this book and wish someone would write a follow-up, seven years on, outlining similar success stories that are happening today.

Terrific!
Turning Lead Into Gold was a book I couldn't put down! It opened my eyes to lead and other metals that are harmful to us all. Nancy goes into great detail about the harmful effects of toxic metals and what you can do to prevent it. She also goes into how to treat lead poisoning. I bought this book because my son has an elevated lead level but I am recommended it to everyone I know! Because of all the facts in this book about metal poisoning I am getting my whole family tested.
