Good artwork... kinda short for what you getAlthough there's some really high quality here, I'd say the magazines leave you wanting a little more. If these had been a little longer (about 100pgs) I would have given it 5 stars.
UnbelieveableAfter having purchased a couple books from the Druuna series, including this one, I have come to some very strong conclusions. This artist knows comics, and knows art. Like any good movie, the story can be told by the pictures alone, without even NEEDING to read it. And when you do, upon deeper exploration, you get plunged into an entirely different world unlike any other comic out there. I don't mean to over emphasis the uniqueness of the story or concept, but in it's success. No other comic can intrigue you, and have you totally suspend your disbelief and think that this might actually be real somewhere. The eroticism is high, and much hotter than any other "hard core" or "underground" comic.... but this differs completely. Dispite how good any adult comic can rise, this can only be a category unto itself. Erotic, yes, but moreso: it is utterly stunning. As the Druuna series comes to a close, and the story ends I find myself disliking this book in only one way... that I had to purchase the different peices individually, in serperate volumes. An collected book of all six episodes back to back in a thick well bound quality edition would be worth every penny, as is this book and any other of Serpieri's.
Oh, my god!Another thrilling adventure of serpieri, Great dose of erotism. I always fall in love with his heros/heroines. When you read this, you'll find yourself in a universe which will not help you miss yours... Own one, well actually, start a serpieri anthology...

A Must For Metal Collectors, But...Yes, this guide is a must have for all Metal record collectors. I would recommend it for CD collectors too, as it has a great discography of just about every metal band. But I was dissapointed to find out the author devalued many of the US record releases while raising the values of the UK releases. I know record collecting is more popular in the UK, but there are still many collectors here in the US too. This book makes it hard for the US collector to figure out what his collection is really worth. Case in point, GNR's banned robot cover sells for about five times what the guide lists by many dealers in the US. Anyway, I guees it is just a guide so don't take the values too seriously. Still, a great reference guide for the Metal Record collector.
MANDATORYIf you are into 80's Heavy metal and vinyl collecting you must get this books, which is mainly a catalog. It's very helpful on things as Band's LP's, EP's, release year, etc. If you have a missing LP from the 80's metal and don't know the label, year or even more, you want to complete your collection dig this.
Finally! Something for the "headbanger" collectorThis book is perfect for those who simply have an interest or the hard-core collector of rock and roll's wicked stepchild, Heavy metal. Loads of photos, bios, and assorted gems, this takes some of the guess work out of ammassing one's collection. The only complaint I could possibly offer is that there needs to be more concentration on the newer sub-genres of Heavy metal (black metal, death metal, etc) although they are addressed.

(mumble) ozzy (mumble)The world has been inundated with Ozzy books. This one is the best-looking of the bunch, and the funniest. It treats the Osbourne family as they seem to want to be treated: with humor and (albeit irreverent) respect.
Very informative !Well put together and very informative. I have watched The Osbournes maybe a half dozen times and I have listened to Qzzy in my youth. It was very nice learning the little details that could only be found in book form.
Best Ozzy bookOf all the Ozzy books that have come out with the success of his TV show, this book is easily the best. It is the best written, the funniest, and the authors knew what parts of Ozzy's life would be most interesting to readers.

How to Restore Your Farm TractorAn excellent and interesting orientation as to what it would take to restore an old farm tractor. I found a lot of good b&w photos and a desciptive, easy to understand text. There are appendexes listing clubs and parts vendors also. Buy this book along with a shop manual before you buy a tractor.
BUY THE BOOK BEFORE YOU BUY THE TRACTORI READ OTHER READERS REVIEWS BEFORE I BOUGHT MY PROJECT TRACTOR AND THANK GOD. THIS IS A VERY GOOD INSIGHTFUL ACCOUNTING OF WHAT IT TAKES TO REBUILD A TRACTOR . FOR THE BIGINNER, THIS IS A MUST!
Buy this book before you buy a restoration projectThis book is a good overview of tractor restoration. It follows the restoration of a Ford 9N tractor to original parade ready condition and a Farmall to working condition. It has chapters on each section of restoration such as electrical systems, fuel system etc. While it describes the steps involved in some detail for the two tractors being documented, it notes the exceptions for others such as John Deere. This book will give you a good feel for what tractor restoration is about and it will even give you some detailed instructions for some of the work involved, but it will not be the sole resource needed. Fortunately the author is well aware of that fact and gives generous references as to where more information can be found, not just other publications, but also societies and parts dealers.
This book is well written and well organized. It has a lot of good photographs, even if many of them are in black and white. I recommend it as a good starting point, but certainly not the last word.

True Metal vocal techniques to the max! This book is overall a great read. I am not a lead vocalist, I am a guitarist, but I know a lot about singing and other instruments. A few things I suggest you skip over are anything said by Chuck Billy(although I'm a huge fan of Testament, his vocal techniques are very harsh and damaging on your vocal chords)and the guy from Disturbed(he apparently damaged his voice so bad that he needed surgery). Other than that, this is a great book. Winger-haters, don't skip over the Kip Winger interview...Although Winger had horribly cheesy music, Kip is a very knowledgable musician and gives great advice. Bruce gives awesome but common warm-up tips, and James Labree obviously knows what he is talking aboot, eh? Geoff Tate's advice did not impress me. I expected more out of such a vocal god. I do recomend this book for any lead or backup vocalist. It gives great insight to whatever style you are playing, especially Metal. Well, I hope this review helped you. My Metal Hails hgo out to all of you!
Interesting, Useful and InsightfulAs a long time fan of heavy rock, I found this book to be original, providing very useful tips from the legends themselves. I've not found anything else like it. It was exciting to hear about the pros' secrets to success. Heavy metal singing is a difficult genre. It takes a special style and hard work. This book breaks down the steps. It's easy to digest, motivating and enjoyable to read. You'll be off and singing before you know it. I highly recommend you check it out!!! Rock on.
Nothing will top this!! Unless Bill writes another...Just flipping through the first few pages it reads like just another vocal coaching book. But wait - get your form and posture correct because what you are about to read will change your vocals forever. Bill asks the best vocal singers the questions we all long to ask. This book delivers. Page after page I thought, "this is unbelievable!". These Metal Heroes really tell all their secrets. They share tips, tricks, techniques...everything!! I felt just by reading a couple of the singers interviews I could sing easier. This is the closest thing to a weight loss pill that requires no exercise. I just kept reading and thinking "I can do this now!". This book motivates as well as it removes mental barriers. It removed all the blocks I had. I can sing all the way to the limits of my range and 5 notes beyond what I thought was possible. There is no other book like this in any style of music. My only dissapointment was the fact that Halford and Steven Tyler weren't included. But then who would be left for the sequel? The quality of these singers interviewed in this book is literally the best in the world. I think heavy metal singing is the most difficult style in the first place. In this book you get all the masters of metal to tell you exactly how they do it. Does anyone agree that heavy metal singing is the hardest stlye? Ask Brittney Spears to sing Eyes of a Stranger- Queensryche. Ask Jennifer Lopez to sing Screaming for Vengence-Judas Priest. How about the Back Street Boys singing Time Bomb-Annihilator. How do you think they would sound? Only a few people can sing these songs and most, if not all, will own this book or they're in this book. Band together all heavy metal fans of the world. Buy this book and let these Metal Heroes show us the way.

Just like what a band biography should be...I've only recently become a fan of REM and I picked up this book to read about the band's origins and early history. Fletcher did a great job with describing the early music scene in Georgia and detailing the birth of REM. He never asked you to learn too many details and tidbits about the comprehensive world of music and never went too deep into the motivations of the songwriting. But the band does give input here and there and the rise and success of the band is very well-documented. I'd like to read Fletcher's take on the 2nd decade of REM. He did that good of a job in this book.
Objective views from an obsessive? This was my first REM book and I read it with a vengeance. Back when Automatic had only just come out, I had only just completed my REM music collection and was absolutely into them. At that time they were basically the only group I was into but all I knew was what I could gather from the songs and from those clippings in 'Best Of'. I soon knew every line of those clippings and decided to sought out the book they came from. BANG. I was hooked - completely - every line, every page I wanted to read so much. Packed with information I took up like a sponge with water - I seriously couldn't put in down.
The book is written in short paragraphs wildly spaced over glossy pages, with some great photos and an useful comprehensive list of the standard releases. It's very easy to read - the short paragraphs keeping you interested chapter after chapter. The book's ideal as a starter for REM information and for people who have a more casual interest, rather than heavier, more indepth books such as 'It crawled From The South'. The faults lie in its generalisations and the way it plays up to the fans, giving us what we want - "hey this book's wonderful - it says REM are great". Its so easy for music books to do that and REMarks is no exception. Sometimes Fletcher does sound artificial, but then again, I still read it over and over.

FANTASTIC!Being an REM fan for over a decade, this was the first book of their's that I had ever purchased... this book is chock full of information about the band, and it has some great pictures! If you are into the history of REM... this is a MUST!

not bad, given what they had to work withYou've got to feel for the publishers of this novelization. They released it in 1999 in order to coincide with the theatrical release of a movie that never got released in theatres, and is finally coming out in 2000 under a different title (HEAVY METAL 2000), so they've had their potential audience undercut.
However, Eastman and Timmons do the best they can with a virtually nonexistent plot, and it's a very diverting read. However, one has to wonder why the average consumer would bother with a prose version of a HEAVY METAL story (a franchise known for visuals) that uses Julie Strain (a woman best appreciated visually) as a model for its protagonist. Okay, there's a nice photo insert, but still....
this book ROCKS!this book is awesome and the authors have done a nice job writing the story even after the hit movie.
FAKK2 ROCKS!The first movie was great, the second was even better, and now the book blows both away... go byy this book now, you won't regret it.

Far less overwhelming with Pardeys DVD in handThis book has excellent info, but is a bit overwhelming and I didn't let my partner read it, cause it can be pretty scary. Then I came across the DVD Lin and Larry Pardey put out. Their ideas are discussed in this book. But their Storm tactics DVD put it all in prospective and added a lot of info. was fun to watch too and my partner came away feeling eager to get out voyaging. The two make a grand combination.
Essential book for those who venture offshoreI would give this book five stars except that it is a little out of date and not the easiest to read. Despite this, there is no question that the material within is critically important for any sailor who ventures offshore and worth reading. I feel this topic has not been adequately explored in the printed media. There are only three good books on the subject and this book leads the pack. There is still a lot of research to be done in area of heavy weather sailing. Coles does a good job explaining what to do in various situations he faced. This book gives you a chance to put yourself in his shoes. This book is well worth the price. It is cheap insurance considering that what you learn could save your life. Serious yachtsman read this book.
Heavy weather sailing - a masterclassNo-one who takes responsibility for others at sea should be without the life-saving knowledge in this important book. It is a 'distance-learning masterclass'of wild-water seamanship, bang up-to-date, and filled with hard-won experience of what works and what doesn't when the chips are down.
I would not want to be at sea in a rising gale without the 'know-how' I've learned from 'Heavy Weather Sailing'. I echo Pete Goss's endorsement - "If you buy no other book for your voyage, buy this one."

Heavy Metal art-form explained through social & artful view.As many people in the general populus consider Heavy Metal as more entertainment than art, this book tends to bring to light more of the social & artful aspects of the music. As the title suggests, there's much to do with sociological issues of power, gender, and emotional views. But there was also a large undercurrent of the musical talent and influences of those who make H.M. music. Moreover, the view that H.M. is/not dominantly popular due to lyrical content alone was another interesting topic discussed (among other topics). It is true that some of the topics lack the proper explaination they ought, but for the most part, the details given are good & helpful. If you are a musician, this is a MUST HAVE book! For those trying to understand H.M. (parents, teachers, etc) - open your mind and open this book. Includes indepth looks at musical styles of: Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhodes, and others.
Overcomprehensive, yet a needed study.Walser attempts to cover too much ground in this book. Still his treatments of gender and madness as content of Heavy Metal lyrics are worthwhile. He covers music and some imagery; these tend to distract from his central ideas rather than add. Yet, this may be the academic reference book on HM that others are judged by, simply because it has primacy and is comprehensive. It was a needed work in the field. A major criticism is that he does not adequately account for the various sub-genres of the music.
FundamentalThis is one of the best books about popular music I have read. First of all, Walser avoids cliches: he is good at interpretation, and like all people who are good at interpretation he checks his ideas against the ideas that people who make and listen to the music have. PMRC supporters watch out. Second, he knows what he is talking about: the analysis is grounded in a good understanding of musicology, social theory, literary theory and evidence. So when he tells us where heavy metal "fits," we can believe him. All this, of course, is aside from the question of the reader or anybody else "likes" the music or not. As a model of how to do context-informed analysis of a genre, it rocks.
