Lord Vishnu's Love Handles
This book has quite an opening line and first chapter. The termoil the main character has found in his world seems to disable him until he finds out what are at the roots of his delimma. The story then twists in such an extroidinary direction that you are hooked. It was a fun read ... especially since I live in the neighborhood of the main character and work in the same office building...Is that a coincidence? In this case, yes.

Love Handles prevail!
This book is a "can't put down". Amazing twists and turns, and always keeps you reading (and thinking). This is a "must have" book, as you will want to read it again, and again. Will Clarke is hilarious and riveting. I am sure you will see this on a best sellers list soon. A masterpiece novel!

a book for all aflicted with afluenza
I love books that show their main characters coming to grips with their supposed need for material goods. The main characters' reaction to aspersions cast on his lifestyle remind me of many peoples reaction to critisism about their constant reach for more and more stuff. As in "Fight Club" the main character is forced to see what his life would be like with no possesions thus realizing what is truely important.

Powerful Little Book that Will Change Women's Lives
This little 5" X 7" book is packed with frustrations, irritations, confusions, and challenges faced by thousands of women who hold two full-time jobs: employee and mother. The magazines and newspapers are filled with stories about the difficulties women wrestle with every day. Women without husbands and/or children face the same issues. The message is clear: gotta be in control!

Control. Organize. Direct. Internalize. Chaos. Responsibility. Stress. Ineffectiveness. Unhappiness. This flow is not going to good places. And that's what has to change. Mary LoVerde takes her readers through the process in a comfortable, conversational "been there" style that will be much-appreciated.

The text is filled with comments, testimonials, emotional expressions and more from a wide range of women. I was amazed at how much was woven into this book to make it a really helpful tool for all those women who have tried to improve their life by tightening their grip. Change comes when you understand that control is often confused with power.

LoVerde suggests that true power comes from six approaches: pose good questions, pay attention, predict your Achilles' Heel, partner with women, pause before judging, and position yourself. The book is filled with compassion. Women who follow the advice will find a new serenity.

Side comment: a lot of men could learn a lot from this book, too. Couples reading it together risk finding a new level of happiness.

delighted by this book
I have heard Mary LoVerde speak and it was a very insightful and touching talk, so I was quite impressed to see how well she transfered this wisdom into writing. This book is funny, very helpful and cleverly written. A delight.

Witty, Enduring Wisdom
Mary's new book transcends platitudes and offers genuinely original suggestions on how we can gain the contentment we seek by letting go of our compulsion to control everything and everyone.
As she points out, the more we try to control life, the more out-of-control we feel. With real-life examples, laugh-out-loud insights, and tangible suggestions; the author shows us how to relax, connect, and enjoy our life as it unfolds instead of rigidly trying to predetermine every outcome.
The book is divided into easy-to-access-and-apply read bytes so you can dip into it and derive value even if you're busy and only have a few minutes to spare. Read it and reap.

My children's absolute favorite
Though I have always enjoyed Carl Sandburg's poetry, I had never encountered this book until my son discovered it at the library on his first library visit. We took it home, read it every night for 2 weeks and he didn't want to take it back. The day we returned it, we went to the book store and got our own copy. When my daughter came along, I ordered a copy from Amazon, as she also fell in love with the story. The Wedding Procession is a lovely go-to-sleep book, telling the story of the sweet Rag Doll who was loved by all, but who chose to marry the Broom Handle. We each have our favorite group from the procession. My son loves the musical soup eaters, my daughter adores the easy ticklers. And my favorites, after the clean ears, are of course the sleepyheads. Children will want you to read this to them nearly every night. And parents and caregivers will oblige happily because it is a quite, lovely, charming story that will march your children right along to bed in the Wedding Procession of the Rag Doll and the Broom Handle.

such happy memories
This was truly my favorite book as a child. I was surprised to find it available. Many happy hours were spent on my mother's
lap reading and looking at the unique pictures. I hope my Johnnie
loves it also!

Probably my favorite children's book
I don't even have kids and I'm ordering this book just to have around the house. Though I haven't read it in probably 25 years, I can still recite whole passages from it. I only wish it were still available in hardcover.

read this before you need to!
Everyone should read this book before starting their first employment. It contains helpful advice on how to handle difficult situations with coworkers/bosses, and how to prevent dishonest people at work from messing up your career. You should not wait until you are in trouble to read this! It is easy to read for people who has english as their second language.

Help for anyone dealing with a workplace that gets them down
I read this book after leaving an "impossible" work situation. I immediately went back and recommended it to coworkers who were still working there. I believe what I have learned will help me in avoiding similar difficulties in the future and in working through problems wherever my career goes.

A Terrific, Very Effective BOOK!!!!
I am a self help book "junkie" (Guess, I need help for that!) but anyway, I do struggle with professional anxiety issues when it comes to office politics and being over apologetic in general to authority figures and co-workers who can be at times out of line. This book is the BEST book I have ever read that addresses REAL ISSUES and stresses that arise from dealing with at times ego-centric, power hungry, controlling, backstabbing people and NOT LOSE YOUR SANITY. His mantras that he offers the readers are innovative and at first seem kinda weird but upon using them, ( I am just beginning to feel better about myself and my professional contribution!! already) If you have any issues like this that you are dealing with on this front...Pls Pls READ THIS BOOK!! Best Medicine in Bookform for these type of mental ailments.....It is a Must Read and should be recommended by every therapist worth their Fee.... I currently have a terrific work setting and co workers and management team. but it hasnt always been like that...The book even helps one to see that the problems nor the solutions are outside one's self but ALWAYS internal first beginning with Self perception and self- appreciation even during the most trying and aggravating work situations.

Sometimes the best things are the simplest
Going through life as parent of a "special" child, one navigates a maze of physicians, experts, specialists, and amateur diagnosticians. Desperate for help, such parents try a range of treatments and tactics, sometimes destroying their families and their sanity in the process. Ms. Bluestone and HANDLE do not have a "magic bullet," but the simple and authentic wisdom in the HANDLE approach teaches us all that there really ARE honest and practical strategies to help individuals who don't fit any of the models in the medical literature. My son has benefitted greatly from the HANDLE precepts, and this book tells true stories of others whose lives have been forever changed. Ms. Bluestone's own story is an inspiration, and she brings to her work the unique empathy of one who has "been there" and found her way out. HANDLE respects individuality and eschews labels; the accounts of these HANDLE clients are compelling and dramatic. Perhaps the most important thing this book provides is hope, which is often in painfully short supply for "marginalized" people. I congratulate all these writers for recounting their journeys, and I think thousands of people can benefit from stepping into the Churkendoose shoes for a few hours. I recommend this book to those with open minds, tired spirits, and vital hearts.

A positive message of hope
Compiled and edited by Lisa Brenner, The Churkendoose Anthology: True Stories of Triumph over Neurological Dysfunction is a collection of uplifting testimonies offering a positive message of hope to individuals afflicted with neurodevelopment problems ranging from attention disorders, learning disabilities, Tourette's Syndrom, or an acquired brain injury, to Cerebral Palsy, sleep disorders, Vestibular Dysfunction, Down's Syndrome, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. True success stories of the HANDLE (Holistic Approach to NeuroDevelopment and Learning Efficiency) approach in helping young people and their parents. Enhanced with an informative commentary by Judith Bluestone, The Churkendoose Anthology is highly recommended as an engaging and encouraging read, especially for anyone having to cope with a neurological dysfunction.

So Much Hope in This Book
The stories in this book give hope to us all. For more than a decade I have worked with adults and children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. The usual treatments involve behavior modification and drug therapy. Little time is spent in observation and evaluation such as described by Judith Bluestone in this book. The Handle Institute's methods offer hope through its methods that have no reliance on drug therapy. This is a book for patients, family members and professionals.

Lose Your Love Handles: A 3-Step Program to Streamline Your Waist in 30 Days

The Perfect Plan
Mr. Shilstone's three steps can be summarized as follows: (1) shift your eating habits permanently, in a minimally restrictive way, guided by the glycemic index, (2) accomplish a full hour of aerobic exercise at a good intensity every day, (3) perform a serious but short core strengthening routine every day. That's the program.

The dietary portion of the program (certainly not a conventional "diet") is minimally restrictive both of the sort of foods you might be allowed to eat and the quantity of food you might be allowed to eat. You could eat like a lumberjack (if you wanted to do that) and still be well within the program. The key observation is "glycemic index," which Mr. Shilstone explains in more detail and more correctly than I could here. This is an important and very healthy suggestion, which was new to me. It is, in a sense, the natural and appropriate correction for most of the diets that are usually suggested, even the low-fat diets suggested by physicians for heart patients. More scientific basis of this is explained in Dr. Schwartzbein's books (The Schwarzbein Principle and her cookbooks), and related information appears in Cheryle Hart's book on Insulin-Resistance. This is a very good idea that I found in Mr. Shilstone's book first. My only criticism is that more information is really required than Mr. Shilstone has room to include in this small book.

The section on aerobic exercise for your hour a day is excellent. While power walking will certainly suffice, you are in no way limited. Very good and useful information is given for you to substitute any number of activities that might suit your changing interests. He gives detailed information here about the time of day when you can most usefully exercise (late afternoon, an hour and a half before going to supper) and what criteria must be fulfilled for your body to be able to burn fat (you only start burning fat well after a half hour of exercise). These insightful details will help a lot in monitoring your own effectiveness easily and without worry. He gives you that extra knowledge to know when you're done.

The core strength workout is given in two forms. Either form, when learned, can be accomplished in some time ranging between fifteen and thirty minutes. The simpler routine uses only a weight, something like a medicine ball (although a middle sized rock would do the same job). The more advanced routine requires a Swiss ball and some tubing. Both are efficient and well constructed routines.

The bottom line to a book like this is simply whether it works or not. My situation is not like every person's. I'm reasonably active, a little more active than the usual "weekend warrior," neither a total couch potato nor actually in good physical shape. I've carried between 10 and 14 pounds of extra weight that I couldn't lose for more than 10 years' time. I've tried a lot of ways to make it go, including bicycling and some moderately serious running (two miles after supper every night). Nothing has worked. Now, I don't do the cooking or the shopping in our house. According to the guidelines, our eating habits are neither exemplary nor totally wrong. So, as I count it, I am simply non-compliant with his step 1). From the start, I have been totally compliant and vigorous in step 2) via power walking. I am learning his step 3) slowly and integrating it into my routine (the bigger step) slowly. So, I would consider myself about half compliant with step 3) at this stage. So, according to my guesses, I am about half way doing his program. Happily, in this half-way mode, I'm systematically losing both inches and pounds. Now, if I said that I am losing about a pound every ten days or so, that would not be in the spirit of the book. Mr. Shilstone doesn't recommend the use of scales to monitor your progress. He asks you to use the tape measurement of your waist. So, I should say that I am losing something very roughly like an inch a month on the waist. (My estimate is rough since I am non-compliant and prefer to use a scale.)

My congratulations to Mr. Shilstone. I think this is a uniquely useful book and one that most people I know could usefully read. There is no question that this is a very good and completely adequate program to manage the "love handle" problem. The cost of this is the work of integrating the suggestions into daily life. Not everyone will want to do that (it costs about an hour and a half a day, and whatever trouble it takes to changing your cooking and eating habits). The results are a significant boost to good health, vigor, and a sense of well being. Not everyone will choose that. My suggestion is that you should only buy the book if you intend to do the routines systematically. While a useful outline, it is not really the best entertainment reading. I gave it only four stars because I consider it incomplete in the nutritional section. I still need to buy other cookbooks to help me become "fully compliant".

I love loosing weight!
This book was so amazing! It totally changed the way i eat and live! Im 15, 5'11, and weigh 160, i used to weigh 260! This book really works!

Very informative!
I bought this book for my husband who refused to read it. I read it and learned a lot about metabolism and combining a healthy diet plan with exercise. Any male with a family history of heart disease, diabetes, stroke or cancer should definitely read this book before its too late!

Simple, Straight-forward and Easy to Use
This was a refreshing change from other books on the same topic. It offers the reader quick reference to specific topics and areas of concern. The activities are easy to understand and to follow. It offered straight-forward realistic suggestions to assist the reader in pursuing improvement of emotional intelligence rather than exploring its causes and effects. It is a wonderful tool to assist parents raising their children and adults raising themselves. I would recommend it highly to family and friends.

Redeem yourself and your son/daughter
After a lengthy parent/teacher conference, our son's 7th grade teacher gave us this book to read/use. Long story short, our son had lied to us regarding assignments. His teacher recommended this book as a way to rebuild the bridge of trust between all of us. We are buying multiple copies to give as gifts. This is a gem.

Handled With Excellence
Handle with Care is an inspirational guide to an emotionally intelligent state of mind and way of life. This clearly written, detailed account of 24 themes (empathy, optimism, tolerance, resiliency, etc.) each of which will certainly stimulate your curiosity, invites you to contemplate, learn and exercise its resources. This activity book is abundant with inspiring quotes, activities, and useful information for daily existance.
