Wonderful for summer, vacations, visits with grandparents...
My four year old daugter thoroughly enjoyed this book, and asked to have it read again and again. She suggested we take it with us to the beach. She's never had clams before, and now she wants to try them!

Three boys reluctantly get haircuts only to be surprised!
I'm an Elementary School Librarian and when I read HAIRCUTS AT SLEEPY SAM'S the kids are thoroughly mesmerized. They chuckle at the term - AFRO CUTS and love the illustrations. Strickland and Holliday did a great job. I'll be looking for future books by these men.

Great book any family can relate to!
My nephews and nieces enjoyed the book, and I enjoyed reading it to them. We could relate to the fun and togetherness of the family activities written about and illustrated in the book. I highly recommend it.

Get over It: How to Survive Breakups, Back-Stabbing Friends, and Bad Haircuts (Teen Magazine)

Amazon base price: $4.99

Life is full of snags and surprises, especially for teens. Every day it's something new: dealing with being dissed, finding out that your friend is into the guy you used to date, realizing that you like a friend of the guy you're dating, bummin' over grades, having hair envy, recognizing trust-busters, figuring out the difference between a funk and depression, and coping with extracurricular heartbreak.

Time to Get Over It! and get on with your life. No, it's not always easy, but with this handy, hip little guide, it can be a whole lot easier than taking the psychotic freak-out route. For its entertainment factor alone, this book is worth its price. But there's also a ton of very real, very healthy, very useful advice behind the way cool lingo. The theme throughout is: calmly confront the problem, express your feelings and needs, and move on to a solution, even if it means saying good-bye to a relationship or a plan. Whether the issue is a boyfriend who pressures you to have sex, a best friend who blabs your secrets, or dealing with a new stepfamily, Get Over It! has a solution. There are other goodies too, such as a sure-fire cure for The Dump (recipe for chewy brownie cookies included), a top 10 list of ways to torture your siblings ("No. 8. Stash tampons in your brother's backpack"), and some hilarious true confessions by real teens who have handled some of these same crises--and not always in the most mature fashion. (Ages 13 and older) --Emilie Coulter

Beth Mayall? It should be BEST Mayall!!
If a more comprehensive and thoughtful guide has been written on this subject, I've never seen it. The book may have been put out by Teen Magazine, but the insights within will inspire and challenge anyone from 3-103! I recommend it as a definite must-read!!

The Best
This book contains great ways and tips to get over guys or girls who have dumped you it gives strength to go back out in the world without braking down and crying. I give this book 5 stars because it is so good.

This book could make a sad man laugh
I had this book in hardback and it dissappeared when I lent it to a friend. A long time went buy until I found Amazon and was able to replace the book. To tell you the truth I enjoyed it even more the second time around. Alibi Ike could probably make someone laugh on his way to the electric chair. Also for young people, this book could show you the path we followed to get here. Frank Callender-Reviewer

Most Beloved Book
This is my two year old son's absolute favorite. He is able to repeat the story on his own. It's simple and repetitive sentences draw him in every time. A must for every collection! All of my nieces and nephews go for it when they are visiting. I just bought a second copy the original is so worn.

Ten Times the Price of a Haircut

Honest common sense, compulsory reading.
This book should be compulsory reading for students in development. It tells of all sorts of idiotic projects and idiotic consultants, and of a few good ones. It gives a view of after-office-hours life that is true for some expatriates, those with a liver of steel that is. In both cases, the regretted author does not shy away from the naked truth, but does not just deliver it for the sake of it. His depictions of the night-life and his depiction of development are always full of common sense, a rare commodity. Much to learn there. Why make a study to prove that farmers with dry irrigation canals fare worse than those with functioning canals ? Why make a study to prove that villages with electricity are better off than villages with candles ?

Last, but not least, all respecting expats should try to play golf, Bandung rules. Does your common sense not tell you that golf is just a GAME ?

Review of Why Don't Haircuts Hurt
This book is really great for teaching kids how the body works. I like how it is written in question and answew form. It makes learning about the body understandable for children as well as interesting. The book covers all the questions that kids always ask about the body. I was impressed with how much information the book covered and how well it was presented. I'm sure kids of all ages will enjoy this book.

A Great Book!
This book is better than a lot of other ones out there! I'm glad that I bought it! It is clearly written, with helpful illustrations.

Great for toddler boys
I bought this book based on a recommendation I read here at Amazon. I am so glad I did. It gives great advice on what kinds of scissors to use (I bought an inexpensive pair as part of a hair cutting kit at a beauty supply house). It also talks about other supplies and various diversionary tactics to keep your child still while you cut his/her hair. Compared to several other books I saw in the stores, the instructions are extrememly clear and no-nonsense. Perfect for a parent with no hair cutting experience.

There are step by step instructions for three haircuts for boys and three for girls, plus guidelines for babies of either sex. The girls cuts may not be contemporary enough for some people, but are the basic single length and layered cuts. Plus there are instructions for French braids.

The boys' cuts are the wedge (bowl cut), a short layered cut, and a buzz cut using clippers. I've been doing the wedge cut on my son (now 28 mos) for about 6 months. The instructions are clear and the results speak for themselves. Everyone asks where I get his hair cut! I highly recommend this book. The cost of the book and some decent shears would be dwarfed by what I would have spend on cuts at a barber shop or salon.

Worth Buying
I originally checked this book out from our local library and found it so helpful that I plan to buy it for my own collection. After winging it for many years I finally have a guide that helps me give my son and daughter great haircuts ... for FREE! A great book!
