Hits Close To Home¿
I loved this book. Everything in it reminds me of the fun and antics that I experience with my two Pugs. I would highly recommend this to any dog owner or soon to be dog owner. It is a lot of fun and has many "out loud" laughs.

Excellent and very funny!
I got this book as a gift and really enjoyed it! It made me laugh from beggining to end. Very funny and great as a gift for dog lovers.

If you are a REAL Dog Owner, you need this book!
My daughter gave me this book for Christmas. It made my day! I could swear that my 4 year old Chinese Sharpei, Smokey, had written it! I looked over and he was watching me while I read and laughed my way through it. My neighbor has the world's "dumbest and biggest" bulldog, Duke and I am getting him a copy. My son is a Vet, and he is getting a copy! Read it and see your self in this Dog-Mirror!

Great little book
We're planning a trip to the UK and I found this book to be a wonderful little companion to bring along. Stock full of iteneraries and places to see and do it is a book any traveler cannot do without. My only complaint was the hotels and Inns. There just wasn't enough to pick from.

The best book for finding great places to stay in Scotland
I carefully read over all the books for going to Scotland when I went on my honeymoon. This book is the most reliable one for choosing a place to stay. All the places I stayed at that this book suggested were great - something that can not be said for some of the other places I stayed.

Pretty good (but what do I know?)
Let there be no pretenses -- I'm a loser.

Always have been, always will be. That's just the type of person I am, and nothing is going to change that. So when the guy sitting next to me at work recommended that I read, "How to Develop Self-Confidence and Influence People", I was skeptical.

First of all, I don't even think this guy likes me. He probably thinks I'm a dork because I've never had a girlfriend. It's not like I can help it -- girls don't like guys like me. They want someone that drives a fast car and can drink lots of beer. Sorry, but I'll never be cool like that.

Well, I did what he said, and read the book. It's good -- I guess -- but I don't see how it's going to help me. It's not like girls are going to start talking to me now that I've read this book. No matter what I do, they're always going to think that I'm a loser.

There are a couple of things in this book that might help me increase my self-confidence and my ability to influence people, but I doubt it.

Very good book
I was asked to speak to out local church group recently. With little to no public speaking experience, I went out and got this book rather than decline to speak (a thought that had crossed my mind)

My presentation went over in a big way. It was very successful. The tips and advice really worked. In fact, they worked so well that I have since joined toastmasters and have bought other books on public speaking.

From zero to above average public speaker. Thank you Mr. Carnegie!

Very Good
Very good book. A page turner chalk full of great ideas.

HT RAISE BR CHILD

Mindnumbing Psychobabble!
The basic premise of this book is that you should create a stimulating environment in which your child will enjoy learning. Sounds wonderful, doesn't it? Well, I thought so. I was very excited to read this book. As it turns out, I've never been so disappointed in a book. Since the title is "How to Raise a Brighter Child" I had expected that it would be a "how to" book. The author does give a handful of examples of activities and games to engage in with your child. However, in most of the book she simply regurgitates other people's experimentation and data attempting to prove that it is advantageous to teach your child at a young age. Well, I wouldn't have bought this book if I didn't believe that! I don't think the author had a single unique idea of her own. The 38 pages of references and bibliography speaks for itself! I did read the entire book while continually hoping that it would get better, which it did not. Save yourself the cost of this book. As I said, the basic premise is wonderful. Take that and use your own imagination to make it work. You'll be much better served!

Smart, yes, but wise only in its own eyes
Many of the ideas expressed in this book ring true regarding children's learning process. However, be wary of such subtleties as suggesting as fact to your child that this world or things in it have been around for myriads of years. That is not fact, but theory, no matter how widely accepted. The book also advises against corporal discipline, with insignificant substantiation and a single footnoted reference. In place of the wisdom of Solomon, this book suggests mere time outs and moral explications, but relegates the chastening of tough love to archaic obscurity, despite admitting its use by 90% of parents. Perhaps some children of the remaining 10% will become the future intelligent leaders of tomorrow, of companies like Enron and Worldcom.

These were once RADICAL ideas
28 years ago, when I used ideas from the first edition of this book to teach my daughter to read, mainstream educators thought it was harmful to "push" a child to read before age 6. Her own reactions of interest and delight in the suggested activities told me otherwise. She was reading Dr. Suess by age 3 and chapter books without pictures by 4 1/2. Her Montessori teachers were totally amazed. Of course, I kept reading to her myself until she was 8 or so, because we both enjoyed that activity. Today she is an avid reader and the mother of a 10 month old daughter. She recently asked me how I taught her to read, and I remembered this book and came looking for it here. Now I remember that it had many, many other good suggestions for encouraging a child's natural curiousity. It was, by far, the best child development book I've ever read.

Common Sense? or merely perceptive?
This book is a decent introduction to body language. It is basic, and really won't shatter any of your preconceptions of how to read body language.

If you consider yourself to be perceptive, or if you have studied other books on body language, you probably will not find anything earth-shattering or new here, but for a newbie, trying to pick up basics, this is a quick intro.

Basic
This is a very good book for beginners on how to understand body language ... but the division of the chapters, and some examples make this book very basic.
very easy and fast to read

reading body language
a very basic fast reaqd of the mannerisms of people and how to reflect upon yourself whats pointed out in the book
an interesting read
