Freedom never comes easy.....
Though small in size this is a great book. When you get tired of the left-wing dribble about this War,as well as previous ones;reach for this book and be reminded of what it means to love Country and Freedom.Lee is also small in size, but a giant when it comes to appreciation for the freedom and privilege he enjoys living in America.Dont be fooled into thinking that Lee was jumping on the bandwagon of 9/11. He wrote and recorded this in 1984.Every time I hear Lee sing this song ;I am reminded of a recording by Gordon Sinclair back in the 60's,I believe, titled "The Americans".There are a lot of people here in Canada could do well by listening to it!

The words behind the music!
This little book recites the lyrics of the author's award winning hit song that is enjoying a revival in popularity since September 11. It also includes other patriotic quotes from American history. The best part is the CD with the song. Help
support the AmeriCares charity and buy this book.

Here is the closest example of what God means to America and why Jesse fears Him so. I would tell your friends about this book and Heineman's other works. Together they form to show how the Right feels America might be wrong today.

Worth Re-reading
I am reading this book for the second time.I read bits aloud to any listeners I can find. As all of Elliot's books, it cuts to the heart of the matter of discovering what life was designed for. Read it the first time in one sitting. So much wisdom in here!

A conmon-sense guide to the Christian life
This book does not contain a "magic formula" for finding God's will, but it is a valuable collection of suggestions from someone who has experienced more than the typical share of difficulties. She has said "Yes, Lord." to things that would make the average believer cringe. And her very readable advice points you time and again to the Bible, and to Biblical ways of making decisions. I have found her counsel to be dependable, and I recommend this book as a worthwhile addition to any Christian's library.

A Highly Important Book for Any Concerned Citizen
This book cuts through all of the conventional public discussions on the economy and society to make a clear, convincing case for reviving local communities. Pundits, politicians, and intellectuals are always bemoaning the collapse of "community," but their analyses are usually coiled around morality, or the need for "better education," or some equally superficial issue. But as Shuman points out, all the civic involvement and moral uprightness in the world is useless if our towns and cities are being held hostage by globe-trotting corporations and ultra-mobile capital. "Community" is only possible if people control their own lives; and this is possible only when there are thriving, viable local economies. This is not a book that calls for a complete retreat from the global forces that are shaping our world -- that option is impossible with the current levels of technology. But what Shuman does outline is a way for communities to reestablish a balance between the local and the national/global, in the areas of production, finance, and government. And unlike many other books, which never get past the critique to make any positive prescriptions, this one is brimming with concrete proposals. It also has the most extensive list of groups, organizations, and resources that I have seen in the area of decentralized economics and community self-reliance. This is a must-read.

Food for thought for economic development folks
Every year on the anniversary of Walt Disney Worlds settling in Orlando, Fla., its a sure bet some newspaper will carry a story about my late uncle, Paul Pickett, and his opposition to the project. As a county commissioner when Disney first proposed bringing its giant entertainment complex to the city, he argued that the project would unleash a monster that would forever change the quality of life for residents. Tell the mouse to stay in California, he snapped.

As a person who embraces -- make that relishes -- change, Im not sure I fully agree with his assessment. But as a person who has lived for most of my adult life in an area that was decimated in the 1980s when the all-important steel industry fell on hard times and today struggles with the threat of losing still another industry on which we have become economically dependent -- car production at the General Motors plant in Lordstown, Ohio -- I understand the point my uncle was trying to make.

So does Michael H. Shuman, attorney and author of Going Local: Creating Self-Reliant Communities in a Global Age. In his book, he advocates that local communities must regain control over their own economies by a variety of means including investing not in outsiders, but in locally owned businesses like credit unions, municipally owned utilities and community development corporations and focusing on import-replacing rather than export-led development. Doing so, he maintains, will reduce or eliminate the need to offer excessive tax abatements and other incentives to entice huge corporations upon which the communities stand to become dependent. The growing power and will of corporations to move without notice or warning has presented many communities with a terrible dilemma: Either cut wages and benefits, gut environmental standards and offer tax breaks to attract and retain corporations or become a ghost town, Shuman writes. Almost every U.S. town or city has learned that capital flight is not just a hypothetical danger.

Urging cities to be just as friendly with rootless corporations as with its home-grown businesses, Shuman says, is like telling a loyal wife to accept the inevitability of philandering by her husband and to appease him by buying more sexy lingerie and cooking nicer dinners. If a community is reduced to a link in a global chain, it will be dragged wherever the corporation controlling the chain wants.

As long as corporations are free to move from place to place, the author argues, No jurisdictions efforts to target production toward basic needs, or protect its work force or environment, can succeed. Once regulations become onerous, a profit-maximizing firm will move on.

This does not mean, however, that communities should circle the wagons and lock the gates. It means nurturing locally owned businesses which use local resources sustainably, employ local workers at decent wages and serve primarily local consumers, Shuman writes. It means becoming more self-sufficient and less dependent on imports. Control moves from the boardrooms of distant corporations and back to the community where it belongs.

All things considered, Shuman offers a point of view thats worth considering by government and economic development leaders throughout the country.

Bravo!
Finally, a book about the current political and societal state of this country by a scientific mind that uses reason and logic, not emotion, as the fundamental basis for the analysis and conclusions. If 51% of the voting population had 60% of the doctors wisdom and ability to reason the country and the society would be far better off and maybe self-reliance would make a comeback. Don't let the title persude you that this is another book whining about politics by a guy whose guy lost. Not the case. The doctor offers analysis and solution of not only political issues, but also deals with issues of detrimental attitudes and mindset prevalant in our society today. This is one of those rare books that while providing signficant enciteful information and data, also challenges the reader to think, reason and analyze on their own. Think about the next gift your gonna buy for that friend that just cannot grasp reason and logic when coming to conclusions and opinions about politics and societal issues and maybe a little of Dr. Turrel's medicine in this book might help.

What A Find!
Wow! I highly recommend this book to anybody frustrated with the way our government functions today. (And whom could that possibly exclude!) Indeed, I could not put it down. Dr. Turell not only frames the problems driving us up the proverbial wall in today's society, he takes the extra step: He offers solutions. From our health care situation to how we, as a nation, have developed a victim mentality, he lays his premises out in simple, clear terms.

His ideas are fresh and innovative. His work is well researched. His conclusions, obviously well formulated and intelligent. And to top it off, his writing style is friendly, avuncular.

This man deserves to be heard. He has convinced me it is time to stop looking "out there" (to the government, to the lottery, to frivolous law suits) for answers. Moreover, he has showed me how.

I repeat: What a find.

The new GI bible?
If I could give this book six stars, I would.
There will be a lot of comparisons with "Doughboy to GI" and I think that's unfair. The author very smartly decided to focus on ONE SPECIFIC AREA and timeframe. I applaud his ability to focus his work, unlike so many other "catch-all" books out there. Sure, there's a few gaps and some errors (check out the postwar French guide with the Department of Defense logo on the cover), but overall, my library would be incomplete without this fine reference work. And, he also showed items from OTHER COLLECTIONS. Let this be a trend in books, please! We're all tired of the "Lookit mah kewl collection of stuff, some of which might not be related to the subject" books.
This is the standard by which I will judge reference books in the future, and thanks for putting it out in English!!!
Hey, why ARE all the best reference books on US stuff done in other countries anyway?

Excellent Beginners Book for US Army World War II ETO
This book is an excellent reference guide for beginning collectors of militaria items issued during World War II to U.S. Army soldiers in the European of Theater Operation (ETO).

This book is a must have if you are going to be purchasing your items from online sources such as EBAY and surplus stores. This book will absolutely help you identify authentic U.S. Army issued items. This is very important given the explosion of modern day reproduction of many of these same items now being sold commercially.

This large(Literally)sized book is comprised of numerous detailed colored photographs accompanied with brief written descriptions of each article of issue. I very much liked the layout of this book; it is well organized in a logical manner starting with Insignia and Decorations, moving through to Uniforms, Equipment and Weapons. I especially liked the specialized sections for Armored Troops, Airborne Troops, Mountain Troops, Female Personnel, and Military Police. The author also included special sections for The Corps of Engineers and Signal Corp. I also enjoyed the (seldom seen) sections dealing with Army Rations, Army Publications and Personal Items. I found this format to be easily used to locate the items I was interested in and compare the large photographs in the book to items I was planning on purchasing online.

This book is very reasonably priced compared to other military collector books such as "Doughboy to GI" and does not contained a lot of information I do not need anyway , but end up paying for with other military collectors books.

A very intriguing look at todays public school system.
If this book doesn't make you angry at the state of our school system, and even our government as a whole, then you must be communist!!! This book gives alot of insight into the evolution of our "modern" school system... where it came from, to what it has become. Its not just a book about theories, or ideas, it offers proof of many of its allogations. If you were a public school system POW like me, then it especially hits home to see what was done to us, how we were ripped off, and how we continue to be ripped off. This book will make you seriously think about home schooling your child. A great book for parents thinking about home school, or anyone interested in how the government is trying to control us.

Excellent Information about Outcome Based Education
This book highlights what Goals 2000 is and what it is doing to our schools. Duffy is informative and shows that homeschooling is the way to succefully educating our kids and the reasons why. I highly reccomend this to anyone who is or is thinking about homec\schooling their children.
