Simply put... the best book I have ever read. It will fill you with pride, anger and activism. You will read in awe of the courage of our founding fathers. You will read in horror about the beast that our government has become.

It's hard to disagree with the principles expressed in this book. I've bought 4 copies already to share with family and friends!

This book offers a simplistic look at our government and its powers, and specifically how it has deviated from the founding father's original intents. I especially liked the list of the companies doing work for the federal government even though they have no constitutional basis to do so, and i found the syllogisms to be very helpful in explaining why the government cannot do certain things. I would recommend this book to anyone no matter what political affiliation. It will change the way you see things.

This is one of the single greatest books that I have ever had the privelage of reading. The writer describes in clear and concise terms the price of liberty, how we won it, and how we are losing it. You wont find this information in any government school or college.
Delightfully this book is an easy read. The author wrote this book with the common man in mind. Splendidly I tore through this book in no time at all without having to read a single sentence twice.
Patriots, students, and anybody dedicated to preseving liberty and economic freedom should definately read this masterpiece. Its amazing that the information in this book is surpressed from our schools. Everybody should read this book twice and buy copies for all your family and friends.

I would recommentd this book for all to read. This book tells a little about some of us that were part of the original people assigned to Vietnam prior to 1964. This was one of the first books to tell about myself, having been captured on 24 December 1961 and held for six months. Most people do not want to talk about those of us that were part of The Expeditionary Forces of the time.

I would like to recommend "Vietnam Military Lore - Legends, Shadows and Heroes" for a lot of reasons but especially to Army aviators because there is quite a bit of coverage of the first Helicopter transportation companies that were sent to Vietnam way back in 1961 and 1962, namely the 8th, 57th, 33d and the 45th, which later became the 117th, 120th, 118th, 121st and 145th Helicopter Companies. I know the old timers will recognize a lot of names of aviators that Bows has written about. I thereofre recommend this book to all those interested in Army helicopter aviation. I have been hearing a lot about E-Government, but had no idea what it really was. I bought this book by Dr. David Wyld and enjoyed it so much that I even signed up for one of his classes! I highly recommend this book to everyone! It's a great learning tool!

The book contributed by David Wyld, is an exploration into the minds of some major leading figures and their take on e-government and e-procurement. I found the book to be very appealing and informative. The insight of some of these major transformers interviewed allowed me to become more knowledgeable about issues included with the new revolution. This book allowed me to read about one subject with 21 different viewpoints, which enabled me to stay focused and learn all diverse aspects.

This book is an excellent resource for anyone studying terrorism. I used it as part of a bibliography for my final Army War College paper. Though the paper was about National Missile Defense, I found an incredible amount of data I could use. It is sober, insightful, and easy to read....unlike many books on the same topic. I have loaned my copy to other Army officers as a primer for curent events. Hope I get it back.

Mr. Pillar makes many very interesting and well-balanced points in writing this book. His suggestions are quite well founded and realistic.

Too often suggested methods to combat terrorism are either inadequate or too extraordinary to be accomplished. Pillar offers very plausible and level-headed suggestions and expectations for the United States' counter-terrorism programs.

This is not a book about secret operations or police actions against terrorism. This text is about the phenomenom of terrorism, its different manifestations and the kinds of groups related to this activities. Mr. Pillar explains the methods for answering the terrorist threat and -contrary to what many may think- he relegates military actions to the last place of the list. This book was written before September 11, 2001, but certainly it helps explain why the attacks took place and sets the path to prevent such acts in the future. This book is also important for those interested on the legal aspects of terrorism, because it deals with different instruments adopted to combat this threat. For every person who would like to form his/her own opinion on how to fight terrorism, this text is a must read.

There are times when words alone do not do justice. This is one of those times. I have never read a book so uplifting and righteous. Simply put; if you did not appreciate Ronald Reagan when he was the leader of the free world, you now have an opportunity to look back at the wit and truthfulness of the greatest president to grace the oval office. This is a fast read; excerps from speeches, etc. If you read only one passage, let it be the chapter on Leadership. You will truly understand the greatness of this American hero.

This is a great gift book for your Republican/conservative friends. It's title tells all--it is a charming little quote book of ideas from our fortieth president. Biographies by family members are always superior to biographies written by distant observers, and this non-exception proves the rule.

It is a great gift book, meaning that it has dainty fonts and stunning pictures. It is organized topically, but is not indexed so you may have to hunt a little for your favorite quote. The cover is a nice balance of a thoughtful black and an autumn rust, reminding us that Reagan is in the autumn of his life and slowly heading to black. However, the cover has a border of gold remind us of the gold ofg life after death.

We need politicians with wit--Kennedy and Reagan both had the Irish blarney, but the silver-tounge seems to be scarce among the current chain-gang in Congress. This book should be a manditory study gude. We need to eradicate the superficial smashmouth so common on the Sunday shows!

I've been doing my own little research project on Ronald Reagan, and this book was great. It describes some things about him that only a family memeber could describe. You can definitely tell it was written by an adoring son, but it gives insight that no one else has, and reminds us of what a patriot, team player, and forward thinker Ronald Reagan was.

Aldrich Ames' met with the author for several sittings after he was jailed and without the government's permission. That was just one more offense in a career of treason, drunkenness, slough and almost revolting passivity. Yet this man not only sent as many as 25 agents to their execution, he also spared no information to his KGB handlers. At times, he would be rooting for our side by day and by night he would have reversed and treacherously divulged everything he had previously learned.

Of course the answer is how? Despite the agency's superiority in resources and technology, they retain a dangerous and imbecilic "he's one of us" mentality. Ames repeatedly failed to follow protocol. He was spending money like a madman and while there were a few who were convinced of his guilt, the amount of time and the ultimate leakage that occured with every day was shameful.

Interestingly or not, the CIA has satellites that could zero in on Brezhnev as his dacha while he was being detained-but when it came down to getting the goods on Ames, they were more like the Keystone cops. Stealing trashcans, going door to door as salesmen, til someone called the cops and all of the vaudeville that one associates with those types of blunders. The book is far more flattering to the 'bureau,' who took full honors for the arrest even though there had been an agency team that had first fingered Ames and his wife.

The underlying issue for me was a) how the nature of espionage seems to be more about getting moles than about truly gathering intelligence and b) the astonishing lack of effective ways to figure out if someone is working for the other side. All of which, indicts or acquits the nature of being human in a world of frightening homeland security and total information awareness. Getting the info is apparently easier than managing it and logically acting on behalf of the constitution- not an ideology. There has been nothing discovered that has solved that problem. I really enjoyed reading this book and having some insight into diplomacy and superpowers and flawed characters all over.

Excellent book. Well investigated and written. Once you start, it's hard to put it down.

I really enjoyed Pete Earley's book "Hot House" about Leavenworth Prison and this book is every bit as good. An excellent combination of detailed research and captivating writing. Much more in depth than "Killer Spy" by Peter Maas (which was not a bad book, but tells more of the FBI's role in the investigation).

Your book "Trillion" was fantastic; I loved it all the way to the end. The only bad thing about the book is that it ended. Please make sure I am aware when you release the sequel.

This book touches the very core of a subject that a whole society has been dancing around and needs to deal with. It is bringing to light a subject in a positive manner and opening eyes to a reality that is here but not yet dealt with.

Once I picked up the book, I couldn't put it down. Mr. Kimmel is a natural at story telling. Trillion held my interest with a convincing blend of intrique, adventure and thought-provoking messages. BRAVO!

This book examines U.S. immigration, documenting what's happening as 10's of millions of people (largely from the 3rd world) are allowed into the U.S.

It's difficult to find accurate accounts of the immigration situation. Business lobbies for immigration to obtain cheap labor and keep wages down. Left-leaning intellectuals advocate immigration because of a hatred of the Western Civilization and desire to see it eliminated via diversity and multiculturalism. Politicians advocate immigration because they want to import dependent populations that need services and will vote for them (kings need peasants). Conservatives accept immigration because it seems to validate the desirability of American society and free-enterprise and they are afraid of being called names by the others.

The result is a population growth curve for the U.S. like that of 3rd world nations, with corresponding social strains. If continued at the same rate, the U.S. will reach 400 million people by the year 2050 at huge social, economic and environmental costs. The President of Mexico campaigns here in California even as Mexicans talk about retaking the southeastern U.S. states "stolen" from them centuries ago by repopulating it and effectively eliminating the border; the effort is called the "Reconquista". Don't expect in-depth coverage of this by ABC or the New York Times.

The U.S. was created and maintained by the sacrifice, lives, hopes held by millions of ancestors many of whom paid the ultimate price to create the future: our present. The current generation now has the option of piddling that all away with a whimper or educating themselves and stopping destructive forces. This will mean enduring and refuting charges of racism, among the other antics of the cultural elite, without being deflected.

This book a good starting place. It provides specifics on how high immigration damages the U.S. at multiple levels. The first to feel the effect of immigration are native blacks whose attempts to integrate into American mainstream have been substantially halted by preferences for immigrants. But all are affected.

As an example, why do engineers developing the air traffic control system -- involving billions of dollars and millions of lives -- make one-half to one-tenth the salary of a routine lawyer or doctor? Employers can go to Congress and say "Americans aren't interested and not smart enough. Our schools can't produce engineers, we need to hire foreigners".

This is not an option for professions like law, being dependent on language and cultural skills. So salaries for engineers are comparatively low and a shortage results despite the critical need. At the same time, law and medical schools are overflowing with people attracted by the high earning potential. The results of the immigration policy create the imbalance in the first place. Need more engineers? Pay more to attract them.

It is like nothing has been learned. Slavery developed in this country to provide cheap labor. Yet the cotton pulled from the fields by slaves has long since rotted away to nothing. The consequences have not: civil war and ongoing social struggles spanning centuries. Much of the original intent and structure of the nation has been distorted or dissipated attempting to solve self-made, predictable problems. One can only wonder at what this country could have done if it had not wasted such massive resources in contortions over unimportant social issues.

Now the concern is over a matter even more trivial, if that is possible: whether strawberries will be $1.20 a carton or $4.50 a carton in the 2-3 days before they rot away. Perhaps someone should sit down and design a decent strawberry picking machine and save future generations untold grief. It's called menial labor because no human should be doing it.

The U.S. is not a strip mall with jingling cash registers the national anthem. It is based on a set of specific ideas about human nature: that people are spiritually created in the image of God, thus have instrinsic worth and dignity. That humans are corrupted by sin, something that is real, thus power must be decentralized to avoid concentration in the hands of a single individual. These ideas are what distinguish the U.S. from the others (and a major reason the concept of human rights tends not to "catch on" in cultures lacking Christian background.)

People are not like refrigerators or cars. When you import them, you also import their hopes, dreams and understandings for generations to come. We are now importing people who do not share the understanding of human nature this country is based on. They are rather from 3rd world countries which view people as disposable, government simply a source of power to control the people. When immigrants arrive here, they are now greeted by intellectuals and educators and media who share the same view. Why would newcomers perpetuate a society and institutions they have no way of understanding and are outside their tradition? Because they can make $7.50 an hour instead of $1.00?

Columnist P. Roberts write, "The basis for a successful political life is a common language, history and culture, which create a people sufficiently cohesive for self-rule to arrive at compromises that solve conflicts. When "multicultural diversity" replaces "a people", cohesion must be provided by coercion."

The U.S. (and Europe) are on a self-destructive path that has been walked over and over throughout history. Only the rationalizations for inaction are more clever. Educate yourself with the facts, steel yourself for the vicious onslaught you will provoke, and speak up.

Great book on how immigration is ruinning this great country. After reading it I have become much more aware on how important it is to stop immigration. We must fight immigration in order to save this great nation!!

Roy Beck gives every possible argument for reducing immigration. He talks about how our enviroment is at stake with overcrowding. He talked about and proved how immigration causes a drop in wages of low income earners. But the best chapter was without a doubt "Jobs Americans Will Do". He disproved the myth on how immigrants today take only jobs that no one else wants. He argues for reducing the number of immigrants admitted based on population replacment rate. This book was written by a man who is actually left of center politically. Thus the pro-immigration lobby can't do their usual name calling to anyone who supports cutting immigration. Roy Beck has done us a great service.

This three-volume 2003 edition summarizes a broad selection of data. It arrives at 5.1 million for the Jews killed during the Holocaust. This death toll is also subdivided by year of death, by European nationality of the Jewish victims, and by fate (extermination camp followed by cremation in a crematorium or pyre, open-air shooting and burial, etc.). This work also contains a list of Nuremberg defendants, and their associates, along with identification of those held directly responsible for the fate of the Jews.

A considerable amount of time is spent discussing how the Germans had gradually perfected the technology of genocide. Mass shootings gave way to mass gassings using the carbon monoxide from the burning of fuel by large engines. This was replaced with Zyklon, a pelleted form of hydrogen cyanide. It was found that the burning of bodies in large pyres disposed of them quicker than the crematory ovens. To hasten the disposal of the murder victims, their bodies were not usually burned completely to ashes. Some death camps pulverized the bones of the victims with special bone-crushing machines, while other camps just used slaves bearing hammers to do the gruesome job.

The Jewish death toll at Auschwitz-Birkenau is currently estimated as fewer than 1 million. This contrasts with earlier estimates of 1.5 million, 1.2 million, etc. This should be of no comfort to Holocaust deniers, as the present estimate, and overall Jewish death toll, is unlikely to be reduced any further, at least to a substantial extent. However, it does ask for an explanation for the discrepancies with earlier estimates, and none is provided.

Although a full examination of the Jewish relationship with Poles in German-occupied Poland is beyond the scope of this volume, Hilberg presents some information that sheds light on this relationship. He cites a German document wherein its author complains about the fact that Jews avoiding the roundups (leading to the death camps of Sobibor and Belzec) are hiding with Polish and Ukrainian families. He acknowledges the fact that the death penalty was imposed in Poland for aiding Jews (p. 520). He also points out (p. 1122) the extreme housing density of gentile Poles (4 per apartment in prewar Poland; no doubt greater during the German occupation) and its role in the disinclination of Poles to hide fugitive Jews.

Recurrent charges of Poles turning in or killing fugitive Jews, commonly encountered in Holocaust materials, neglect a number of factors, one of which is the latter's significant involvement in the plunder (and sometimes murder) of Polish villagers. Hilberg is one of the few non-Polish authors who acknowledge the fact (p. 1126) that bands of fugitive Jews would rob Polish peasants. The reader can visualize all of German-occupied Poland as one giant concentration camp where its inmates often fought, and sometimes killed each other, over food and other essentials.

It is unfortunate that a Holocaust scholar of Hilberg's stature accepts a shoddy account of the Jedwabne massacre in a totally uncritical manner (pp.320-321). The evidence does not support Gross' storytelling. There were 200-400 Jewish victims, not 1,600. Most definitely, the Germans were not spectators who were just filming what the Poles were doing. Very likely, it was the Germans who orchestrated this atrocity. The Poles were actually relegated to a compelled subsidiary role (perhaps 40 Poles, certainly not "half the town"). The Poles were forced to round up and guard the Jews. Whether the Poles were involved in the actual torching of the Jew-filled barn, consensually or not, has not been established by convincing evidence.

Hilberg moves beyond Jewish deaths to encompass the Sinti and Roma (Gypsies), German male homosexuals, etc. He also discusses the planned partial genocide of the Polish population, wherein a fraction of it would be Germanized or kept alive as a reservoir of slave labor, and the rest put to death. He is also perceptive in pointing out that massive Polish guerrilla action in the Lublin region, in the face of draconian German colonization with concomitant deportation and murder of the local Poles, had been one of the earlier phases of this planned genocide.

Hilberg's work contains a wealth of information. There are also numerous footnotes that enable the reader to do further research.

After nearly half a century, Hilberg's monumental work continues to be the standard work in the field. Hilberg's research methods, his attention to context, and his literary genius continues to inspire new generations of historians. The first college lecture I ever gave--on the Holocaust--was based on this book in conjunction with Arendt's "Banality of Evil." Of course, you must read "Destruction" in tandem with Hilberg's heart-wrenching memoir "Politics of Memory" to grasp fully the triumphs and tragedies of the greatest Holocaust historian.

I have an autographed copy of the first edition of this book, which was originally a PhD thesis. This isn't a novel, it is a truth session with the facts and numbers. No doubt some of the numbers have changed since it was written, but IT WILL ALWAY BE THE SEMINAL work on the subject--the place to begin. Hearing him speak and meeting him was a treasured experience. The censors won't let me tell you the truth on what you should also read. But, just maybe, I'll be allowed to say "study the actions during and just after the way by a General/President and see what you find". Good Luck

Don't get me wrong: I disagree with Anelauskas on almost every count. We used to have long discussions with him over e-mail, and there are few people further apart than him and I in our thoughts and convictions. The closest things about Anelauskas and myself is that we're both Lithuanians.

I think, however, that in the crowded and ungrateful industry of bashing America this man is among the more skilled ones: definitely a better writer than the celebrated (but talentless) Michael Moore. Yes, in common with other militant left-wingers, Anelauskas rarely allows factual truth to stand in the way of his ideological convictions, but there are no shameless fabrications here or totally rabid ramblings that Moore often plunges into.

Anelauskas' research is impressive: he did dig deep to get all the facts and quotes together. This skill alone could elevate him to the rank of first-grade journalists; sadly, facts here are hand-picked only to support the ideas directed and shaped by ideology.

Anelauskas is candid: he does not conceal that his hatred of America is, in many cases, just sour grapes. He came to America with inflated expectations of a Soviet dissident and was let down. He now hates America with the same black-and-white passion with which he once hated the communist regime. Fair enough, but he never asks himself (and never responds when asked) - if America is so awfully bad, how come it does not have to build fences to keep people in, like Soviet Union had to do?

And if capitalism is so wrong and so bad for the people, how come you don't see queues of people trying to get to Cuba or North Korea? Valdas Anelauskas prefers not to answer this.

Then again, on the positive side - the man is a skilled writer and manages to keep his book readable and entertaining (not a bad achievement for a publication so full of figures and percentages).

It's probably one of the more enjoyable books which I managed to read back to back without agreeing with its author.

And this is one. It doesn't matter what your political persuasion is, this book will open your eyes and make you think. Sometimes you need to see another point of view to help you understand your own.

This book was out of print until civil rights lawyer Michael O'Neill underwrote the second printing. Until then, it was impossible to find a used copy of this book anywhere. This is an important book, and I recommend you buy it now before it goes out of print again.

Sometimes it takes an outsider to cut through the wishful thinking, and outright lies, and make you see your country as it truly is. That is why history departments still quote Alexis de Toqueville as an unbiased outside observer after all these years. I suspect that future historians may refer to this book in the same manner.

The author, a former anti-Soviet dissident, once saw the American political and corporate power structure as an ally and role model. Then, upon actually seeing the reality of the American capitalist system, first hand, and on it's own turf, he began to realise that it was just the "other end of the same stick" when compared to Soviet state capitalism. He saw it was the same old story, a small elite at the top benefitting from everything while spinning an illusion of lies. This massive volume shows the facts of the corporate/government/military monolith that has usurped the true Ameican Democracy.

Read this, sometimes it takes an intelligent outsider to show you how badly you have been fooled.
