Woodland Gang and the Old Gold Coin

This book inspired me to look for more like it.
The Woodland Gang is Dave, Sammy, Kathy and Bill. The beginning is when the mailman comes to the Woodland Gang's house and sees them mowing the lawn. Mrs. Tandy, the housekeeper and nanny, comes out and there is a letter for her. It is about going to London. At the airport they meet a boy who's nickname is Bunny. He really likes Dave and sat in Dave's wheelchair with him. They are trying to find out who stole the old gold coins. They try to use clues and they narrow it down using the suspects. They finally solve the crime. My opinion of this book is that I could never have read a book like this until now. I am very proud that I was able to read it. I like how they split up compound words so it makes it easier to read, like foot ball.

Good book but some phrasing was annoying
I really did love this book even though it is quite lengthy. The steamy love passages were really terrific. The author does overuse several phrases, "an impish grin" and a "terse nod." I swear it nearly drove me NUTS!!! Does anyone agree with me?
This book was really good, though. The story is really compelling, a real "girl's book."

Brilliant!
This book was absolutely incredible!! Many times Romance Novels are tacky and just contain a lot of unnecessary sex, but Andrea Kane's novels had a great plot, and this set was no different, in fact, they were much better! Breanna and Anastasia's journey through their life and problems is very well written and though you tend to like Anastasia more in the beginning (that's how it was for me) by the time you're done with the Silver Coin, you truly like both girls equally. Andrea Kane brought life and personality to both characters. This set had a strong storyline of the strength of women--especially Breanna, who had the quiet but iron fist type of will and determination. Each woman found their perfect match in Damen and Royce and the couples were perfectly suited for each other. Altogether, you could not put the book down! Kane maintains her reputation as a magnificent romance writer.

The best historical romance I have read.
I usually shy away from historical romances because I can't imagine the place and time and the language and way of speaking is usually outdated.
That all changed when my aunt bought me this double book by Andrea Kane.
The characters are interesting and deep. The touch of mystery matched with spell-binding romance kept me turning the pages all night long. I loved this book so much that I read the entire thing in one sitting. I stayed up until four am reading it on a school night.
It's a wonderful novel and I recommend it to anyone.

The best guide to world gold coins after year 1600
This is the best guide to world gold coins dated
after 1600. Before 1600, look for Friedberg's
"Gold Coins of the World" which has gold ancient coins
and gold coins up to year 1600.

Tom and Ricky Mystery Series 2: The Falling Star Mystery/the Silver Buckle Mystery/the Tree House Mystery/the Thief in the Brown Van/the Gold Coin Robbery (Tom & Ricky Spanish-English Readers) (Item #336-4)
Published in Paperback by High Noon Books (May, 2001)
Author: Bob Wright

The Tom And Ricky Mystery Series Books
The Tom and Ricky Mystery Series written by Bob Wright are excellent books for young readers with reading difficulties or learning disabilities. The books are mysteries that appeal to this target group. The titles are made to catch the interest of the reader. They are descriptive, detailed and include illustrations. They are written with easy to read text. They are also believable to the reader which makes it easier for the reader to use his or her imagination.

The genre of the Tom and Ricky Mystery Series is realistic fiction or more specifically a mystery.

Bob Wright made the titles of the Tom and Ricky books sound interesting to the reader. Some of them, for example: The Tree House Mystery, The Voice in the Night, The Secret Staircase and the Falling Star Mystery, were catchy titles which made the reader who was choosing the story want to see what would happen in the story.

Bob Wright describes certain things that go on in the book with detail, by describing what certain things looked like, what was being done and every so often in the book he would have illustrations that would help the reader describe situations that are going on around the characters. Examples of Bob Wright's use of description of details and happenings can be found in The Siamese Turtle Mystery and in The Shooting Star Mystery. In The Siamese Turtle Mystery, on page 5, there is a black and white watercolor illustration of Tom and Ricky setting up a habitat, outdoor terrarium, for the turtles they purchased to play in. On pages 3 and 4 they used text to describe what was going on as well. Bob Wright wrote his stories specifically for people who have dyslexia or other learning disabilities. He uses spaces in between sentences so that the reader has less difficulty following the text. He also makes the text larger so that the reader can read it easier. He chooses in his writing to not use complex words or sentences. He makes it so that the mysteries are not that difficult to solve by using prediction in text and illustrations.

Bob Wright's Tom and Ricky Mystery Series are realistic fiction. The actual things in the story didn't really happen, but they are realistic. A Voice in the Night is an example of a plot that could have really happened.

In short, the Tom and Ricky books by Bob Wright are easy to read. They have excellent descriptions, are good for people with dyslexia or with other learning problems. The stories are realistic situations and include illustrations. The books have readable text, and can be very entertaining for young minds.

Teacher recommended
I am a teacher of students with learning disabilities. I have used this series as well as others with my students. The words are simple, yet the topic is high interest. Due to the fact that the books grab your interest with out being difficult, it encourages my students to read. I love them all.

4.8 stars for this Great Resource: 5 stars for 8th ed.
I stumbled upon this book by chance and couldn't believe my luck. The reason I say this is that, while I find the world of error coins a fascinating one, it is rather tedious work poring over a coin if one has many of the same date and mint to look at but an unclear idea of what to look for. Now, with the aid of this book I had a resource that pointed me in the direction of 'known' varieties and oddities for my particular year and mint. In addition, it gave me ideas for things to look at even when there was no known variety/oddity listed. This edition has over 3900 listings and is illustrated (photos) with many examples of specific anomalies and it has gauge, weight and mintage specs, as well. While some of the things listed here probably amount to nitpicking, I'm glad for the chance to examine these nits. I now find that I see things on coins that I never would have noticed if I had not found this book. I've since upgraded to the 8th ed. which is a little better but no less difficult to find. Really, the only difference between them is that there is three more years data in the 8th ed., and the additional data seems less complete than that found in the earlier edition. Thus, it won't make any difference to you if you don't collect modern varieties and you aren't missing much if you don't find the later version. Plus, the 7th is a bit larger in physcial dimensions which makes it handier to use. Who can't love a book that lists a 'crocodile on roof' or 'bandaid on nose' oddity? If this book does nothing else it will get you thinking about the coins you examine in a more critical manner.

an old time fairy tale with lessons for the millenium
Rosetta and the Gold Coins is an unusually good read for 6 to 9 year olds. With elements of both the fairy tale and the fable, it deals with ethical issues relevant to the new millenium, e. g., lying, telling whole truths,cover-ups, and accountability in easy read, traditional form. The plot moves along nicely through nine chapters, giving the new reader breaks. I'd love to lead a Junior Great Books session with 8 year olds on this book.

What a disappointment!
I have read every one of A. Kane's books since her debut book, Dream Castle. The last 4-5 books have all been a let down. Within 100 pages the main characters express/acknowledge their love for each other and spend rest of the 355 pages solving a long drawn mystery. There is no intensity, doubt or mystery in their romance and I was very disappointed. Within the first 1/4 of the book the couple make their feelings obvious and join forces to fight some other problem. What is left in a romance novel to read after that? The mystery and the lovers search to solve the puzzle was all so boring. Everything in the romance was so rosy, too rosy almost all through the book.

Great read!
I feel as though I need to respond to all of the reviewers who have trashed "The Gold Coin." Yes, it may not be as historically accurate as other Regency romances and yes, the mystery dominated the second half of the book, but I found it a truly entertaining weekend read and a nice break from the typical story! Damen was the perfect male lead. He was intelligent, honest, witty, romantic - and he treated Stacie as a human rather than a pretty face. I wa relieved that he didn't have mistresses on the side and that he worked for a living rather than just living off his title. Their love was refreshing, real and entertaining. This novel isn't going to strain your mind, but it's a very enjoyable novel to lose yourself in for a few hours.

Romance At It's Very Best!
I just discovered Andrea Kane recently, and I truly cannot wait to ready ALL her books. For those of you, like myself, who are TRUE romantics--you will LOVE Andrea Kane!! She combines romance and mystery in an exciting and heart-melting manner, in which I was not able to put her book down even for a minute. I am an AVID reader of romance genre, but lately have become rather bored with the average romantic tale. Andrea Kane's, The Gold Coin, was the first book in a long time that helped me remember why I love these books so much. Thank you Andrea! You are by far one of the best I've had the pleasure to read.

Gold Coins of the World From Ancient Times to The Present
Fist of all for 75$ I would have expected the catalogue to be in color not only the cover and the back...
Secondly for Ancient coins such as Greek, Roman & Byzantine, It would have helped if an approximate weight for each coin was included...

No color pictures
Fist I would say for 75.00 , I would expect color when it comes to showing gold coins in a hard bound edition. The only color is on the paper cover. The book lacks depth in the largest market for collectors, U.S.A. . Not impressive !
